@MichaelMyers87 This is funny. You wanted Tyson to keep going? He was done man, he couldn't stand up he tried using the ref for leverage to get up. You wanted a slower count? Than Douglas to actually finish Tyson? Because trust me Tyson was done.
I am happy that ESPN did this interview with Douglas. Because, many just do not want to give the man credit for his dominant performance against Tyson. And I am a fan of Iron Mike. But Douglas clearly fought Tyson with much aggression, heart and determination. He did just about everything right, that night! Give the man credit, folks!
@@clash4733 Call it a 13 seconds (or even 31 seconds) knockdown if you wish. But it doesn't change the fact that Douglas was the more dominant fighter. z06guy 04 Maybe or maybe not. Honestly wilders defence looks even worse than AJs, when he hurts his legs go all dangly and he looks so vulnerable, so he could easily be knocked out if he’s caught himself, and AJ definitely has the power to do so. Ruiz’s chin is definitely superior to Wilders by many times.
The ref counted at the same tempo both times. Watch the video. Douglas listened to the count and when he heard "8" he got up ready to continue. When Tyson heard "8" he was wobbling around with his mouthpiece dangling out. His eye was nearly swollen shut and he didn't know where he was. He was done.
Yeah, but whatever happened after Douglas should have been counted out was irrelevant. You can argue what would have happened after he clearly should have lost.

Buster Douglas will never be mentioned as one of the great heavyweight fighters of all time, and rightfully so, but for one BRIEF moment in time he was the greatest heavyweight who ever lived! He had the privilege of experiencing something so unbelievable and unexpected in the entire world’s eye. Even the most dominant fighters in history never had a shining moment in time the way that Buster Douglas did on the night of Saturday February 10, 1990. And I’m sure he wouldn’t have it ANY other way!
No way Buster was gonna lose on that night. NO WAY. Didn't matter if it were a prime Ali, Foreman, Fraizer, Norton, or the great Marciano. NO ONE was gonna beat Buster Douglas on THAT ONE NIGHT. He made a promise to his dying mother, and he was determined to keep that promise. He didn't just beat Mike Tyson. He DOMINATED Mike Tyson.
Douglas was a skilled fighter, but he didn’t always train hard. In the years leading up to the Tyson fight he was in shape and on a win streak. After he beat Tyson he went back to his bad habits and Holyfield demolished him.
I love Douglas the man was my coach about a year ago although I had to move which sucks. Greatest man I ever met and will meet. I miss Columbus too. I miss the city. Left so many things behind but honestly I miss boxing the most because it's what kept me going in life.
Douglas beat Oliver Mcall and Trevor Berbick, before Tyson, it wasn't just a one-off win was an underrated boxer. When he fought Holyfield, Holyfield was at his best and Douglas simply wasn't up to the mark, physically or mentally.
People talk about the miracle on ice being the biggest upset. I always bring up Leicester. That is TRULY the greatest underdog in sports history. Period
Not forgotten in the boxing retrospective after everyone bet on Mike Tyson as a 42 to 1 favorite to win the fight. But, it became a joke after James "Buster" Douglas was a 42 to 1 underdog that defeated Mike Tyson in a stunning upset that changed boxing history in the making was totally unpredictable. 42 to 1 underdog was no joke diligently.
I don’t know if Buster Douglas was on performance enhancers that night, I’ll give him. the benefit of the doubt and say he fought clean, he fought absolutely amazing. He was putting together solid combinations throughout the fight and no combination was better than the last one, in fact till this day…you don’t see heavyweights put together 6-7 punch combos, he smashed Tyson
It's funny that people denigrate Tyson and act as though Buster Douglas is all world. I was there that night and it was a long train ride back home. But I expected Douglas to be the new heavyweight champion for long time. He could have beat anyone on that night..but he came in overweight And laid down against Holyfield. It was pathetic. At Least Tyson got off his ass and fought again.
Tyrone Brown the 30 for 30 documentary explains it a little. Fighting wasn’t really in Busters heart, his dad was vicariously living through him. A very tough & sad existence. If Buster had it in him, you would have seen more of that amazing potential that he displayed vs Tyson.
Tyson was not prepared for that fight. He was going through a divorce. Being prosecuted on a alleged rape charge. And getting raped himself for his money. Then his original boxing team had left or been fired. And he literally didn't train for that fight. He was like 21 as heavy weight champion when he lost. That's insane! Had he faught holyfield before going to prison he would've destroyed him! As well as Lennox or Riddick Bowe who later beat holyfield. Yet in still boxing was great then and has went down since.
Just wanted to post somewhere that ESPN is the real MVP for showing another great 30 for 30. I was at work and set the show to record. When I came home late, I was able to watch a great documentary and then watch the actual fight. Great job ESPN!
I think the greatest Fighting upset of all time was Newcomer- Daniel La Russo beating Favorite Johnny Lawrence of the Cobra Kai Dojo in the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament in 1984.
@@pato9988 You can’t blame Douglas he took advantage of the count he got, either way he was gonna get up and was still in control of the whole match, winning every round but that one.
Sometimes I think Mike kinda wished he would lose. Not that he did it on purpose, but as a means to rid himself of the Vampires who shadowed his every move.
Upset of the century. The fight that shocked the world. The greatest upset in boxing history, Buster Douglas a 42-1 underdog rose from an 8 round knockdown only to score a stunning 10th round knockout of the previously unbeaten and seemingly invincible Mike Tyson in Japan.
After reading much aboit that night in Tokyo, listening Mike and Buster themselves talking about it, and seeing the figjt, Buster gave everything he had and more and no one can take that from him. Plus, Mike wasn't as focused as before. Wasn't training as seriously and his discipline was waiving. All the stars aligned for Mike to lose. Sad to hear that the main rat Don king didn't make it easy, at all for Buster to enjoy his victory. Even Mike himself acknowledges Busters victory and doesn't take anything away from Buster for winning. For Mike, that loss was a win as it woke him up and made his inner tiger come back out. He demolished all the opponents that came into his path after that fight before prison. We love and we learn.
loyaldude10, actually, after that loss and diabetes, Douglas came back and won eight of his next nine fights. All KOs. When he lost the ninth fight, that was when he retired for good.
What happened was he spent all his time in court against don king and on his first defence had gained 30lbs and had manboobs.. lost to holy, got depressed and over 300lbs then about 5 years later came back and won ten of 12 fights before retiring at 40.
The count was long, but as Buster said he took the full count on purpose. You can even see him stop himself from getting up and wait a little longer her. Buster did not loose this fight on the long count because he didn’t need it; only used it.
Buster was listening to the count. He did what most fighters would do in that situation to clear their head. It appears he could have gotten up sooner if the count was not as long.
Buster, unlike other Tyson opponents, was not thinking about absorbing punishment and losing. He was going to make Tyson pay. He was thinking about winning the greatest opportunity of his life. His heart, courage and indomitable spirit on full display. Buster won. Tyson didn't "lose". A great fight of two athletes.
Yep, the count would actually be pretty weirdly fast if it was in seconds, the fact people use that as a reason to discredit douglas is sad, because he was clearly ready to get up even if the ref counted quicker, sad people trying to diminish a man better than them.

He beat Mike Tyson because Mike kept losing his ways. It was the perfect opportunity. Nobody thought he would do it like that though. The fight was brutal. Buster really made a fantastic title for himself, one of the few men who beat Mike Tyson. But also the only man to do it while Mike was in his prime!!!
I remember being at my grand parents house with my dad and all his brothers over there.. I was in the front living room and all I heard was a screaming and yelling and when I went in there Tyson down trying to grab his mouth piece ... end of the story
I firmly believe it was a good day for boxing. Don't think I would love Tyson as much as I do today if he didn't lose those fights he lost. Made him more "human" in my view. But the count when Buster was down can be debated...
Most of you people who comment on this fight are really neophytes when it comes to professional boxing. In other words you show your ignorance of the fight game. I was never a Tyson fan because he was a piece of Sh-t as a person and a man absolutely no character at all ! Secondly I get so sick of people saying how he didn't train properly etc. Well isn't it his job to be fully prepared at all times as a professional athlete ? Lastly this long count bullcrap if you watched the fight from beginning to end Buster was Whooping his Ass all through the fight not just one round, the count is always done this way with all referees they say the count out loud and use their fingers to indicate where they are in the count they are not machines but professionals doing their job professionally. When Buster went down he punched the canvas in anger at himself for getting caught with that uppercut but could have gotten up much sooner if he wanted too, but if you know anything about boxing you're taught to get yourself together and get up on count 7 or 8. If you look at the next round which was 9 Mike came after Buster and was almost knocked out in round 9. Then in round 10 when Mike got Knocked the Fu-k out the count was exactly the same as it was for Buster approximately 13-14 seconds for both fighters clock it with your smartphone and you will see that I am 100% correct. In conclusion Stop making excuses for Tyson he got his ass whooped far and square. Get some facts and not your ignorant opinions that's based only in emotion !

@@user-sg8kq7ii3y Without a doubt!
Douglas was a skilled fighter, but he didn’t always train hard. In the years leading up to the Tyson fight he was in shape and on a win streak. After he beat Tyson he went back to his bad habits and Holyfield demolished him.
The fact that he got up and won, tells the right decision was made
He beat mike tyson because of his mother
Facing death whether your own or a loved one's can bring a new perspective: one which fears failure a little less.
He won because the referee gave him a slow count in the 8th round then being saved by the bell. A 14 second count come on!
@@FS02TER That's the truth.
it wasn't Douglas's fault the count was slow. He got up before 10 like he was supposed to and knocked tyson out
@@FS02TER That is not an excuse.
I love Douglas the man was my coach about a year ago although I had to move which sucks. Greatest man I ever met and will meet. I miss Columbus too. I miss the city. Left so many things behind but honestly I miss boxing the most because it's what kept me going in life.
Don't ever stop hearing your "song" in the back of your head.
God Bless Bro.
Douglas beat Oliver Mcall and Trevor Berbick, before Tyson, it wasn't just a one-off win was an underrated boxer. When he fought Holyfield, Holyfield was at his best and Douglas simply wasn't up to the mark, physically or mentally.
Leicester city was 5000-1, talk about sports upset.
They got that red cheddar?
True...but I think the commentator is referring to boxing upsets
but Leicester wasn't underdog against 1 team. LFC was the league's underdog as a team.
Buster did it himself.
People talk about the miracle on ice being the biggest upset. I always bring up Leicester. That is TRULY the greatest underdog in sports history. Period
I was 18 living with my grandmother I saw that fight live on TV I remember the night that's how long I've been watching boxing
An interview where the interviewers talked more than the interviewee.
And the host was a douche
Credit to Douglas... I was in secondary school when the fight took place & Buster Douglas winning that fight was a great News back then in Nigeria.
Let's be real here a well trained Tyson would have never lost to Douglas
Who fault was that?
TexasTea 346 don fucking king
Nope.
HEXONE4LIFE he didn’t lose lmao 15 seconds to get up
Exactly. Never. Not a fluke but he lost his next fight. That is his only claim to f as me.
That's THE MAN!!! What a night it was!
Buster beat the stuffing out of Mike. Remember this so well.
Thank you for this video! I didn't know this was a thing, gonna watch it tonight!
From my memory, Douglas showed up fat and clearly out of shape and just laid down for Holyfield to collect a paycheck.
@Matt Beeman yea but she was getting all his money along with Don king.
@Royal Abstraction I don't think they do. But...they have plenty of them in Tokyo where I was stationed at the time. Smh
I can tell you that, you wouldn't wanna fight Buster that night, fellas.
Buster had the Mayweather ref
Facts
He will always be up there with some of the greats in my book based on that fight alone.
Had this fight been in Vegas, the roof would've blown off the building. The Japanese crowd was too quiet & polite. But it was a helluva fight.
And it's not their main sport.
Same for the Ronda/Holly Holm fight..had that been in vegas i would have heard the crowd all the way here in new orleans.
Just wanted to post somewhere that ESPN is the real MVP for showing another great 30 for 30. I was at work and set the show to record. When I came home late, I was able to watch a great documentary and then watch the actual fight. Great job ESPN!
Buster destroyed overconfidence of the mass public.well done mr douglas.taught never fear move on focus
Buster had something to fight for,his mother. Tyson had absolutely nothing to fight for that night.
Buster is my favorite fighter cuz he has a heart, im Mexican ,no one cares about me. God bless you buster.
What kinda Mexican has a name like Craig Hamilton LOL
This is tough 10th round win. Who would ever call this a fluke?
Would Buster Douglas beat Holyfield that same day he beat Tyson? Also, would Tyson beat Douglas in a rematch 8 months later?
Tyson really won the first one and he smoked weed before the fight and still did good. And if custamo was their Tyson would’ve destroyed Douglas
I think the greatest Fighting upset of all time was Newcomer- Daniel La Russo beating Favorite Johnny Lawrence of the Cobra Kai Dojo in the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament in 1984.
FACT
Sad there wasnt a tyson-Douglas 2
Cuz douglas knew he won't get that count the next Time around
@@pato9988 Douglas won fair cry
@@hoodvines2720 yeah thats what the tapes are showing for sure
@@pato9988 You can’t blame Douglas he took advantage of the count he got, either way he was gonna get up and was still in control of the whole match, winning every round but that one.
@@pato9988 cry more.
Buster fought a GREAT fight that night!!!
Always someone bigger and tougher than you
But when u Mike that a rare 1
Buster controlled this fight for most rounds ' deverved winner in my book ' well done buster 🏴🇬🇧
Buster Douglas 😏🥊
Buster Douglas gave it all that night period.
Buster should credit that fight to his mom.. and catching mike with his hands down on the breaks
We love and we learn.
shame Douglas lost title to Holyfield later the same year and was ever heard from again
loyaldude10 yeah one punch champion.
loyaldude10, actually, after that loss and diabetes, Douglas came back and won eight of his next nine fights.
@@cruiser6260 i think i read that after retirement he ballooned up to 400 lbs
that was a great night ❤
Honestly, Buster lost the fight. His 10 Count was long. But at the end of the day, what the ref counted is what the ref counted.
Tyson got the exact same timed 14 count.
Very slow count!
Buster had tremendous heart
That night he did
Douglas gets dropped at 3:08 gets up 3:21
It goes by the ref's count not seconds...
Yep, the count would actually be pretty weirdly fast if it was in seconds, the fact people use that as a reason to discredit douglas is sad, because he was clearly ready to get up even if the ref counted quicker, sad people trying to diminish a man better than them.
His mom died and they wanted to shock the world with a beautiful story … WE ALL CAN COUNT 😂 WE SEEN U RESTING ON THE CANVAS AND THEN GETTIN ANOTHER CHANCE TO KEEP GOIN
Evander Holyfield beat both! 🤷🏾♂️
Terrell Vessel with the help of steroids and head butting.
Yep yep
With the help of steriods and headbutting douglas was fat when he loss and he took a dive tyson koed douglas 8th round
Holyfield was a roid boy he wasnt natural
Terrell Vessel knocked Douglass out cold with one punch
If Buster is still alive? I'd love to hear him on the Mike Tyson podcast "Hot Box'n" just talking and chillin!! I feel Mike would praise Buster for his victory
He is, and he did say on an interview (i forgot what it was called, it was with the same guy who interviewed Larry Holmes on a podcast) that he was gonna do a podcast with Mike. Would love to see it too
Buster got 12 seconds to get up

I'm such a Tyson fan, I couldn't even bring myself to watch the documentary. Great night in sports history though. When you look at Buster Douglass's story, its what sports are all about.
No knock to Douglas but they say mike was up partying with females the night before heard they had to make him go bed cause they was finna get kicked out he had so much goin on
Hassan Monroe Mike also didn’t train for this fight
So fucking what???? So it isn’t his fault he got knocked out ??? You guy using a dumb excuse
Hassan Monroe Douglas beat Tyson even without the knockout. Tyson not training is on him.
So what! Thats Tysons fault
Heard he was coked up 2
He beat Mike Tyson because Mike kept losing his ways.
Mama said " knock you out "... So I did.
buster Douglas got counted out in the 8th round when mike hit him with an uppercut
Been screaming this since I was a kid
Buster was great that night. 1st man to knock out the great Mike Tyson.
I believe in the long-count....Tyson won this fight before Douglas won it, regardless of the good job douglas did...
Atheist Leopard that and if all the hitting on the breaks got called Douglas would have had enough to have me disqualified.
During this interview, did anyone else notice Buster’s hands shaking?
Buster
Was a great champion🙄
Allen Bundy I feel your hate... Your jealousy is majestic and great
@@ballhogelite ,
What am I jealous of ? I'm a grown man and not a child I have never been jealous of anyone now or ever. I don't hate Tyson I don't even know him and don't want to. You sound like a young fool judging me by the simpleton way you think. I'm merely smarter than you are with much more life experience and a better vocabulary! It's a shame you can't handle the truth from superior mind and analyst.
@@allenbundy8903 exactly bruh. Its always excuses for Mike smfh im tired of that shit. He got his azz whipped plain and simple.
You are 100% correct! Mike did not take this fight seriously, and it backfired on him. Plus his Corner men did a very lousy job. If Kevin Rooney was in his corner, Mike would've won.
Well said Allen
I love mike but I’m happy for Douglas. I truly believe he had it within him to be a great boxer I just don’t think he had the right mindset
Buster lost this fight man. He even knows. But ole well it is in the history books now
how the fuck did you come to this conclusion have you watched the fight
Curry Shot You Buster ass was knocked out from that vicious uppercut and that's the reason the ref ....messed up the count to give Buster a chance just 2 get up.
@@donstreaty3421 nah, the ref gave both douglas and tyson exactly the same amount of time to get up... so
end of any theory
Rigged. Yeah, Tyson wasn’t nearly at 100%. But the long count earlier in the fight tells you everything you need to know.
