2020 Kia Stinger GTS AWD | The Stinger With A Drift Mode

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 15 жов 2019
  • Kia's Stinger is already a Korean drift machine when optioned with RWD, but if you want AWD traction and epic drifting at an affordable price, you now have a new option: the Stinger GTS. The only real change between this trim and the GT1/GT2 trims is the drift mode as all of the other tweaks are cosmetic only. If my cash were on the line? I think I'd just get a GT2 and leave the drifting to Ken Block.

    I have a Stinger GT base RWD and i absolutely love it every single time I drive it. It's an amazingly satisfying car. It's poised and easy to live with, but when you want the power, it's amazing, without losing its composure.

      Exactly the way I would purchase mine. Base GT rwd over GT2. Max power at the least weight. It might not have the adaptive dampers, but I am willing to bet with the weight savings and utilizing equal drivers, it would be fractionally quicker.

      If you are into modding, like intake, exhaust and a race chip, the AWD is the way to go. I can drift even with AWD, putting around 420HP to the wheels. It's...not slow.

      @@St1ngerGuy one could rebutle that with the RWD trim being abiut 220 lbs lighter. RWD Stingers are around 3900lbs, AWD at 4100+. Also, with added power, especially with a JB4 tuner, you can limit boost in the first 3 gears to your liking to aid traction although, I will say my RWD GT hooks up no problem on Map2 which is around 400+whp and 500+ wtrq with the Mich. Pilot Sport 4s.

    I remain impressed with the Stinger. It does so many things, and it presumably enjoys modern Kia reliability. The price is remarkably competitive, so I think the Stinger is a firmly sensible way to have an extremely fun daily driver.

    I got my Stinger GT2 AWD about two months ago and I absolutely love it. My other option was Audi A5 but I chose stinger because of performance. You can do a little bit of the drift but it feels so controllable and acceleration is more than enough to impress friends. This car turns heads and you will get a lot of thumbs up on the road and probably people will ask you what this is in gas stations. The technology is not as advanced as something like an Audi but it’s certainly more than enough. Overall ride is really comfortable and fun. If you really love this car, go for it and you won’t regret. Just be prepared for people’s underestimating comments comparing this to a honda civic or other economy cars cause no one knows what a Stinger has got!

  • @CraigWagner

    I was interested in your comments comparing the Stinger to the A5 Sportback. I actual made that very decision in February of 2019. When I set out I was pretty sure I was going to get the Stinger. I liked that I could get what was essentially an 'S' model for the same price as an 'A' model in the Audi. I liked the styling. I just thought overall it was a great car. Then I walked into the dealerships. The first Kia dealer I went to wanted to run a credit check on me before they'd let me drive it. I allowed it, but they ran a hard check rather than a soft check, so now I've got that on my credit report for the next two years. The second dealer was a little better, but when it came time to talk numbers they automatically added a clear bra, pre-paid maintenance, and a few other items to the bottom line price. Kia needs to get their dealer act together if they want to sell $50k cars. The experience at the Audi dealer was just so much better, being treated professionally and like someone who was ready to drop $50k on a car. I also was concerned about the long-term quality of the Kia, which has turned out to be somewhat of a valid concern, what with the paint scandal on the yellow and reports of squeaks and rattles developing that the dealership has no idea how to fix.

    • @johnholst
      @johnholst 4 роки тому +1

      Comparably speced S5 and Stinger will be similarly quick and the Audi has a beautiful interior. But it's also about 20+K more expensive and less reliable.

    • @SomeLazyDr
      @SomeLazyDr 4 роки тому

      Driven this and the A4/A5 Sportback. The A5 Sportback is quieter and more refined, it's also more fuel efficient, BUT the leases on those are terrible. You could get a GT2 on lease for about $600/mo for a 36 month least with 15k miles.
      An A5 Sportback - unless it's on clearance - /starts/ around $650/mo. (It was going for about $525-$550/mo in December, though. That's a good time to get it.)
      As far as road speeds go, to be honest, while the engine in the A4/A5 is "less powerful", the car itself CAN PULL. I've taken an A4 anywhere from 0 to 120 on the highway - it /always/ can pull, no matter how fast or slow you are going, and it's always a "I didn't know I can do that WOW" feeling.
      The Stinger and G70 3.3T have "slower" transmissions - so while off the line performance is good, the weird thing is they don't "feel" as fast.
      So weirdly enough, I think that the A4 actually "feels" faster, the sound system is better (with the B&O), and there's a rock solid bank vault feel that is oddly relaxing. Like you could do 90 in that thing and it's like 50 in any other car.
      As for the S4/S5 - that's a whole different world. The S4 accelerated so quickly that I had a difficult time actually keeping my foot on the petal, even with a rolling start. The G70 (3.3T) was fast, but I didn't feel /that/ except at standing starts. Transmission is a bit more engaging in the A4 (cause of the dual clutch, the click/click/chunk is more satisfying), but that S4 is insane.
      Overall, I'd still buy a spec'd out A4/A5 over a Kia Stinger 3.3T. Now when they come out with the 2.5T in a few months, and you're comparing to mid-level Accords, that's a more interesting argument.

    It’s odd it doesn’t have cooled seats. My 2019 GT2 has ventilated cooling and heated seats. Heated seats in the rear seats as well. I wouldn’t buy this version vs the GT2. In the Sports mode with AWD I’ve never felt any movement in the rear and that’s when driving very aggressively. In summary, if this had a different badge it would sell for 25k plus more.

      Bob Ranch People make comments about other cars besides the Kia as an option for purchase, and while I agree that you might be able to find a better deal, I always come back to maintenance. I've owned an Audi, and watched my money piss out the windows, and convinced myself that that was the price of owning a better car, but since I sold that, and bought a Cadenza, I now know that isn't the case. Upkeep for the Kia is cheap as hell, even out of warranty. Good luck with that Tesla out of warranty.

      Ed...While those cars are great "bang for buck", in reality, they don't compare to the Stinger. The Mustang and Camaro have useless back seats. And the Challenger has that big, "muscle car" feel. The Stinger is closer to a near luxury GT car. And in that case, you can't get anything in Canada that compares to this in terms of value.
