    • @Zam1Fear
      @Zam1Fear 4 роки тому +1

      The thing is, it's still a pricey car. Nowhere near the price of this AMG new but many people get the Stinger on lease or finance it and realize that 700+ a month with relatively expensive insurance is still not at all like making monthly payments for say a Honda Accord. People trade them in or return them. I test drove one today and all I can say is, holy crap. It is that fast, and fun to drive. Another reason I can think of is that people may truly be bothered by the badge. I myself would not be embarrassed one bit if I owned a Stinger, quite the opposite, but some may really crave a German badge to boost their egos and confidence on the road. Also, take a look at any used car sites/dealers and tell me how many Stingers you find (any trim level) vs how many BMW, Audi and Mercs you find (any trim level). Stingers are anything but common. That's my take anyway.

    • @GTownSinger
      @GTownSinger 4 роки тому

      @@Zam1Fear agreed. I've had my Stinger for a year and a half and I still get asked "what kind of car is that"? The Kia badge doesn't bother me one bit. It's so fun, practical, and loaded with features. And I love the fact that you don't see many on the road at all. And it is so much more reliable and less expensive to maintain than its German rivals. KIA is kicking some serious bootay in the auto industry now.

      @@stanpakauskas2377 Kia has sold about 42,000 Stingers (of all trim types) in North America since launch. Autotrader.com currently lists 535 2018-2020 MY Stingers for sale, or about 1.2% of the total fleet size. Let's compare to BMW 7-series, which has sold in the order of 25,000 7-series (of all trim types) in total since the launch of the Stinger (2018-2020 MY), and we find 728 2018-2020 MY models listed, or about 2.9% of the total fleet size. Many of those are also low-kms too. These are both nationwide searches within the USA. Using those figures we can conclude that Stingers are re-sold at about 40% of the rate of BMW's.
      Audi has sold 63000 A/S/RS 5-series in the USA between 2018-2020 MY. and there are 1125 used ones on sale in the US nationwide of those MY, or about 1.8% of the total fleet size, or 1.5x the resale rate of the Stingers.
      Using those results, let's flip your question around. "So many compared to what exactly?" is my question to you. Why are 7-series BMW's being sold at 2.5x the rate of Stingers (and many are low-kms), and 5-series Audi's being sold at 1.5x the rate? In other words, can you cite examples of car models with significantly better car ownership retention rates to support your claim of "so many"? I'm thinking that what you're claiming as "so many" is actually significantly lower than normal car sales turnover rates.

      I think I am going to get one tomorrow--kia is giving all sorts of discounts because of the virus.Plus with the AWD--you will be able to reliably hit 60 under 5 seconds and have the safety of it.Also there are very little problems reported by JD power--I also wanted an RCF--but even a slightly used model is 10 to 20k more.Kia warranty can not be beat.It has been 2 years and any techincians have said that the stinger GT is a very solid reliable car--I was worried about twin turbos--but unless you track it--Kia covers those also and also have no reported problems.About 10k in the RCF is also for upgraded interiors--leather and carbon fiber trim--which I could care less about--the AWD outshines all that--plus I will be 15k lighter in the wallet.I already got the deal over the phone and tomorrow will also be the first time I will drive one.Quality--safety and RELIABILITY is what also brought me to these cars--the RCF is bulletproof and so is the Stinger,plus If you do not drive it hard and use the turbos--MPG should be better.We will see--Good luck if you get one--will post a video.

    I've had a red 2018 Stinger GT2 AWD with the big engine for a year. Still brings a smile when I have to pass someone on a 2 lane road. I could theoretically afford the Merc and my other car is a ML350 but didn't even look at MB or any of the German cars when I was shopping for my sporty car. It's not just the initial cost, routine maintenance is expensive. An oil change at the Kia dealer is 1/2 or less than a Mercedes oil change. I think Kia has done with the Stinger what Nissan did with the 240Z when it came out. Redefined the rules on what a sports car can be.
    Now if Kia/Hyundai could just get there marketing arm and dealer network upgraded. A Kia or Genesis dealer experience is NOT in the same class as MB or BMW. Luckily, I've got a good independent mechanic that will be seeing my Stinger if something ever goes wrong that isn't covered by warranty.

    • @khronin
      @khronin 4 роки тому +2

      Same boat as you--I am surprised you even have an ML 350 when you could have had an acura RDX for what 25 to 30k less.I set a limit on cars because I can afford to outright buy one in the under 45k area and the Stinger is by far the best bang for the buck, I actually was considering the small GLA AMG 45--but the warranty is less then half and the reliability is way lower--and most of its development was in germany--coll weather--autobahn--stinger was tested in the desert for a million miles plus in development and I live in the south where summers get hot.Like you said--oil changes are twice as much--and I have had friends with Mercedes and after the first year--an oil change turns into a thousand dollars worth of stuff they find wrong everytime you bring it in--they do nothing for free--tire rotation--tire alignments--trans flush and fills--AWD maintenence--fuel injector or valve cleanings.And people that buy a MB and have a loan on it--I would not sleep at night.With the KIA--I have left over money in the bank for light mods--can afford premium gas--and the maintenance is a 30k--60k--90k and it shows what needs to be done--KIA promised that they do not do what MB does and after a year or 2 try to find all sorts of things wrong to make you spend 500 to 1k everytime you take it in for an oil change.

    This is the most fitting car review for me. I have a Stinger GT and this particular Merc is my ultimate car. Like a Stinger but better in every way. However, I actually think the number one biggest difference between these two cars is not looks but interior design and features, then secondly performance.
    The Merc is not a hugely better looking car. It is significantly faster but as the Stinger has a lot of performance with hardly any turbo lag, the difference is significant but not massive. But the interior design of the Merc is where it's a massive difference over the Stinger.

I've never seen anyone go up to an owner of a modern vehicle and ask them about it unless its a supercar or something really special. I've NEVER seen that happen with a BMW, Mercedes or Audi. The reason for the smaller opening of the trunk in the Mercedes has nothing to do with quality or better structure. It's clearly because of it's wedge shape towards the rear end and the positioning of the tail lights. This does not allow for a bigger trunk opening. And by no means is a 4.0L a "MASSIVE" engine btw! If you want any respect as a credible car reviewer, you need to be less bias and make better choices for vehicle comparisons. This video should only be comparing the Mercedes 3.0T vs the KIA 3.3T. The Audi S5 sportback, Porsche Panamera 3.0T and BMW 640i GC are also great comparisons to the Stinger!

    I also just bought a stinger GT AWD--one difference--you don't check off the right box--and that AMG will be governed to 155 mph as opposed to 167 for Stingers in all V6 models.Mercedes also drop in price like a stone--you wait 2 or 3 years and the MB will be half or less then its 100k plus price.Also--and I have had wealthy freinds with these high end Mercedes--most have had some major repair in my book--or something that costs over 2k to fix--within the first few years.Also oil changes are more--and they require maintenence that is more expensive then normal cars by far.I am decently well of and set a limit of about mid 40s for any car I buy because I can afford to buy them --outright.Kia-- is a perfect car--the Stinger also feels like a much smaller car then it is--but is actually a big smoothe HWY missile.I mean a stinger has the same performance as an American V8 muscle car with a nicer interior.If it is as reliable as it appears to be--I will be happy in the long run.BTW--the Stinger is no joke--go drive one--you would be within a car length of that 100k plus MB and after 155 in the US would sail by it.85% of AMG in the US are governed--I also looked at an AMG--used a few years ago and could not get a straight answer on if it was governed--I was going to take the car to the silver state classic--The MB is just not a smart buy unless you are loaded--

For a while the marketing folks were trying to use the term "hardtop coupes" for vehicles that had a B pillar, but a true hardtop has no B pillar.
