Terrific, thank you so much🙏🙏
Thank you Jimson for this video and the links
Such a great discussion.
Excellent Jimson, well done everyone
Thank you.
Excellent discussion. Thank you!
I"m interested to read Gareth Sanford's article. Kevin made the comment on 'how 800m training is evolving'......yet let's think about this. Coe ran 1:41 in 1981, Kipketer the same in 1997, and Rudisha 1:40 in 2012, so it's safe to say 800m training hasn't quite evolved
@SpeedEndurance Great Talk. Can't wait for part two! There is no question that speed reserve is arguably the main determinant underpinning elite 400m performance. Max V capability is, however, obviously not the only contributing factor, as this would imply that 100m athletes would dominate this event. I've recently seen athletes such as Yohan Blake post training videos where they run 400m time trials in ~50s. Speed reserve obviously not being a limitation for these types of athletes - and not taking race tactics into account - would you say their inability to hit
Beautiful question
Sorry could you please clarify the name of "Gerant Samford"?? The article about 400m/ 800m training. Or where we might be able to read it
Thank you. Loved this☺️
He's referring to Gareth Sandford.
This is one of his many research papers on speed reserve and 800m:

This was great - thanks! Jimson, do you have a link to Vince Anderson's relay course that you guys referenced at the end of the presentation?
Glad you enjoyed it. Here is the link:

Hello, my name is Matthew Ratledge and I’m now a senior in highschool and primarily compete in the 400. My 400 time is. 50.7 with a 200 of 23.8 and a 100 of 11.6. I was wondering if you have thoughts on how or if I’d be able to hit a 48 second 400. I’m just not sure where to start for the proper training.
Hey, I know it's been two months but I noticed you didn't get a response so I figured I'd jump in with my 2 cents. You have great times and a great starting point, and 48 is a very high goal, which I love, good for you.
Looking at the comparison between your times, it seems like you ran your PR in pretty dang good shape (as in, with that 11.6 100m, if you were in theoretical perfect shape, you might've run a 50.4: you were very close to that, so I'm assuming conditioning was not holding you back)
That leaves us with speed. I think the only reason your PR is a 50.7 is because your 100 time is 11.6. I think your number 1 priority should be getting that 100 time down. If you can get down to an 11 flat, then that would give you a theoretical ceiling of 48 in the 400, which is exactly what you want.
Hopefully that all made sense and gives you a good idea of where you might want to go from here
Is there a benefit to doing static stretches? Some articles I have read say it actually slows down sprints.
define 'static stretches'? I have covered MicroStretching a lot on this UA-cam Channel. I personally do MicroStretching 5 or 6 times a week, before bedtime.
@@speedendurance basically any stretch you can do without moving… touching your toes etc
Who was the 800 article by….Garret Standord???
Where can I get a coach for 400m? I see plenty of distance coaches but none for sprints. I am recently out of high school trying to make my college team.
You didn't mention a city or your times, but i highly recommend a local club in your area.
I know tons on the east coast. Dm me your info and ill help out
