    I have smashed all my pb s this year in 100 & 200s after 20 years(I am 41) and getting close to what I used to run as a young athlete after following FTC . Can’t believe how many years I have wasted with Tempo sessions without results. Guess that I can score a 400 PB as well according to this seasons data. Thank you coach Holler !

    Sam has been doing max speed for 3 months post recovery from hip surgery last July 2022. We’ve been tracking his progress. Started at 17mph in January and recently PR’d at 23.3mph in March. He PR’d in his first 400 of the season on Friday on an indoor 200m track. He looked fast and easy with a sub 24s 200 split (no block). He also ran a 1:56.05 800min February. This has been a complete shift from a volume mindset to a fast to fit mindset. Max speed at least twice a week. Yes, he still runs miles as a mid distance kid, but our focus in on speed reserve. We’ve also implemented RPR. This approach works! Don’t burn the steak and commit to building speed like a tree.

    As a 400m runner...I liked running one 800m race early in the season but that was it...I didn't have top end speed in high school (11.01- 100m) so I decided to build my endurance.
    I ran 48.75 in high school and my best go to workout was 4-5 300s...I never incorporated weight training til college and finally ran 47.2 in the 400m...

      Yes .I can relate to that experience too . I knew something wasn't right my junior year. I got to a point of being able to get through the races and not be impacted so much by lactic acid build up. But the explosion and speed turn over wasn't there . I knew I need some work of my muscular strength and explosion. Ironically , our coach wasn't a fan of having his runners work out with weights . We weren't dy poly metrics

    I think John Smith is the greatest coach of all time. College or professional. No one has had more success in coaching athletes. I do agree that using Clyde Hart's training nearly ruined high school track. Sprinters hate high volume work.

    7:40 is really important, sometimes it seems it is forbidden to have fun. I don't get it. I think motivation is the most important thing that you should 'train', after that comes sprinting. I switched clubs twice already because i get treated like some robot.

    When he can boast of having produced a world championship athlete like Michael Johnson . Yes there's no doubt a difference in highschool and the college and even elite athletes . Yes there's this mindset of distance based coaches that emphasize a base that's not complementary to sprinters . I just not understanding how Clyde Harts approach has nothing to do a highschool coach who doesn't really understand and apply Clyde Harts principal with some caution . As an experience 400m athlete , base is exceptional to other sprinters because it's that 400m threshold. The point is knowing how to sustain the relaxation and control of body mechanics. It's also a matter of realizing not all 400m athletes are the same . Michael Johnson was also a 200m sprinter and was more so a power strength type Some 400m athletes are stamina based .

      Yep, coaching Michael Johnson justifies everything. Copy Clyde. Run teenagers into the ground. Run laps. Toughen them up! 🥴

      @@coachtonyholler . I get your points, but to go at someone like Clyde Heart wasn't the best example. Yours nor Clyde Heart is the one size fits all . Some aspects of your approach will work and make sense. I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity. More isn't better. Especially for the 400m athletes it's a bit tricky.

    Coach, I think you should explain your program without stepping on another coach’s program. Calling his program wrong, which is what you’re doing, is not particularly sensible, especially in the light of his success. Moreover, you can call the 400 a dash, but that doesn’t make it so. Even the 200 is a measured run. (My opinion)

    • @coachtonyholler
      @coachtonyholler  Рік тому +6

      I choose to be an advocate for kids. I don’t respect coaches that break kids and that is exactly what happens in traditional programs. Too many coaches blindly copy a successful college coach and tell kids to “trust the process”. Meanwhile 75% of a school’s athletes don’t run track.
