Tommy's speech is more philosophical in Mafia 1 than in Mafia Remake, but now the speech is bittersweet: "Family is forever", both of his families. Pretty heartbreaking. Edit: +900 likes? Mother, I am famous. Thx y'all
Also I found Sammy’s death way better in the original. The tension, the feelings, his final message to Tommy telling him that he will never live a peaceful life, there will always be someone to track him down. The music also fit so well in the original. It’s just my opinion though.
Yeah, people who claim to be your friends, can betray your trust, like Sam did with him. You can change jobs, lose them or gain new ones. Money gets accumulated and spent. But family is forever, at least for most people...
Nah you dont understand shit, the last phrase and music which is playing during those last words meant that his mafia family was with him forever and when this family “died” because of him - he died alongside with it too. So he betrayed his mob family and sentenced death to himself by himself because of that betrayal.
@@17reason tbf there was also no cops stayed to bring Tommy to hospital either in Mafia 1 or Mafia 2.Atleast we see his family mourning his death. And also, the scene was remade not remastered.

I liked this approach to his death before, he was just surprised that they got to him, but in the END he realizes that they came for him and he dies quietly in the family circle, Yes of course the Prel mortal phrase sounds different, but as for me it is more soulful
I prefer the new rendition because Tommy would have known that it would catch him up eventually, especially when Salieri is still alive, albeit, behind bars.
@The505Guys I think him knowing what was coming fit, especially with the added scene of his family coming to him. Felt like Tommy was just waiting all that time till his past caught up with him, and when it finally does and he realizes none of his family is in the crossfire, he's content.
Took me a while but I realize why Tommy was so contempt when Vito called his name. Nobody was supposed to know that he was Tommy since he changed his name. So when Vito called him by "Mr. Angelo", he immediately knew.
I love the new version in Definitive Edition. Tommy just accepting his fate fits better and his family being there when he goes makes it hurt a helluva lot more. And that “you’re safe now” from him to Sarah hit me like a truck. A perfect ending.
You feel that he could have still whoop those 2 people ass like he did back in his youth but no. He choose to let them kill him to put his family in security. He is even happy that he got a decade to live a happy life with his family. Best protagonist of the whole serie.
If he whacked them, they'll be on the run endlessly. Watching their backs non-stop. It was the only choice, the only way out of the mafia game. His death cut the connections of his own family from the mafia so by any means, they are nothing more but civilians.@@evgeniblanchard675
@@roamfoam9653 Well the story is so perfect and the lines are almost the same that it don't feel like a Remake. But i can agree yes it's a Remake Because it looks beautiful and the bonus scenes that they put in.
My favorite thing about the new DE ending isn't just that Tommy seems to accept his fate, but that he is able to see his family before he dies. He even gets to tell them that they are all safe now.... Its really just a beautiful ending. Bittersweet for sure. But beautiful all the same.
I like the remastered part were he says "Yes". Because instead of being shocked he knew that one of these days his past will come back and bite him. "You can never out run your passed"
The ending in the remake really had me in my feels. They really did a great job fleshing out Tommy and Sarah's relationship, so the fact that they show her run to him while he's dying really hit me hard. I do like that the ending in the original is really harsh and shows that Tommy couldn't escape his past. The scene was done very well in all three games.
7:54 I like how Tommy turns off the hose, drops it and confidently says "Yes", in the remake Tommy knew what was about to happen at the moment he heard his name, and he accepted it.
Vito and Joe look very consistent here! If anyone remembers the assassination took place a day after the Chinatown massacre. Both men are obviously whittled down by seeing Henry get butchered and their money getting scooped up. Joe looks disheaveled after a night of heavy drinking and Vito looks like he's scared shitless and perturbed by the uncertainty of their circumstances.
I think it’s awesome how it started playing Mafia II’s violin theme. That’s how you knew Vito and Joe were coming in. The only time you ever hear that theme is in this scene. It’s not just reused. It’s only for this one part. I love it. 2K played us good here. Release date was on the day Tommy Angelo dies. Mafia II theme added to it. Brought back Vitos voice for that one line. And Tommy gave a good story. It’s unique how they showed him bleeding out and telling his family that everything is fine. He saw it coming and knew how it would end.
Such a basic half ass quote. Like the original way more. In the remake they just slapped some fast and furious type line on it to make it seem "deep". Really disappointed in the whole remake but especially the ending scene.
@@ranma2942 honestly? I don't think he got the chair, sure he helped criminals. But he never killed anyone!... I hope we can see him being older in a next mafia game, maybe mafia 4 set in the 70s... Or at least someone related to him
Least he was murdered by (at least from his perspective) some unknown goons and not people he considered his friends and family, and he got to secure his wife and kids before he went out.
Actually Vito did worse than Tommy. Henry was brought into the fold by Vito but Vito didn’t know the guy was a rat. My point is, despite how Tommy willingly ratted out Salieri, what Vito did seemed to have doomed the Falcone family (as Eddie is unaccounted for), and unlike Tommy, Vito killed his Don.
I prefer Tommy's original monolouge over the definitive one. On the other hand I really like that in the new one he instantly realises what's going on, just by being called Mr. Angelo.
I like how in the remake they decided to make Tommy show once Vito said Mr. Angelo, like he knew this was the moment he gets assassinated but he just decided to accept it and basically said Yes like “Just get it done with, but keep my family safe.”
So beautiful how content Tommy is with death. It's unfortunate, it's not ideal, but he still accepts it. And he views it as worthy because his family is forever safe.
I like the very subtle nod at 8:03 and the extremely subtle smile of acknowledgement at 8:07. As soon as he heard "Mr. Angelo" he knew the deal and accepted his fate. This is the difference between the original and the remake.
I actually prefer Tommys speech way more in the original mafia, I also prefer it that he is just surprised instead of literally wanting it to happen, and I prefer when he’s just dead, very realistic. The speech of the remake and Tommy just embracing his death and his family coming out so he can tell them they’re safe just before he dies seems too Cliche to me.
Cliche but still realistic. He see for himself how mafia works. He even do job like this himself, even though he let some target escape, he know that one day his turn will come. Heck, most of the former mob boss/member even said in their interview that they were prepared to die someday and that they choose to live as long as they can after their days. So it's not entirely clichė.
John Carter well ok, Tommy just smirking at his death doesn’t bother me that much, it’s pretty badass and thinking about it it is better than him being surprised after being called ‘mr Angelo’ when his identity is changed. it’s just the speech wasn’t nearly as good or meaningful and his family coming out and him saying “it’s okay, you’re safe now” then dying, Is very cliche and overused.
@@wellno7179 It's look to me that it is a failed attempt in dramatization of the scene. They try to make the scene more sad by having his speech from his daughter's wedding toast being spoken while he is dying as to show how his happy life will come to an end. But it come out as being to generic to make any impact. For his last word, I like to think it was the VA's fault. Tommy is dying with blood coming out of his mouth, yet he speak like it was just another daily routine for him.
John Carter I really would’ve preferred it if it was: “mr Angelo” Tommy realises what’s about to happen and turns around “yes” “mr salieri sends his regards” tommy smirks, gets shot, it’s exactly the same music and speech and he is just laid there dead while posthumously narrating that awesome speech as the camera pans out.
Perhaps a new speech is in order? "We all have a price to pay for living our lives. That's the system we live in. A constant struggle to survive in this cruel thing we call society. Maybe a Made man's code of honor doesn't work in today's society. We were focused more on upholding a rigid moral code than forgiving a brother for what he has done wrong because at the end of the day... money is a short term thing. Family is forever. And if my death is the price to pay to save family. I guess it's been a good run."
I like how DE added those extra scenes at end BUT the message at the end of the OG on how people need to find balance feels a lot better than "family is forever huehue its a pun cause the mafia got him in the end and he was also with his family"
i prefer DE message. "Balance" is more cliche i think, everybody knows that balance is important in life. But words "family is forever" are more interesting since his "family" is about to kill him. You can't leave mafia family, you are in until you die naturally or you get killed by it.
Tommy kinda knows here that he is going to die ... I think this makes things comfortable and not that dramatic ... the shock on his face in the original made it better, the life he had not "ended" he was just out watering shit. Here its a full circle, he was ready for it, kinda waiting for it and could happen anytime. When they say his name it is not an accident that he answers "Yes" he admits that he is the one they looking for. This not makes this a bad ending, I just prefer the one that is way less comfortable or acceptable.
Nah, think about it. Here Toms character is complete. Original Tommy was not, so his life is actually the price he paid. This is why we should feel like crap, to feel the moral of the story, to feel more his story.
Yes true, the shocking ending was better in my opinion, even if you wait your whole life for someone to whack you and ur mentally prepared to accept this kind of ending, you still be surprised when the actual moment will come, I love this ending too cuz we can see what happened after he got shot, this is a beautiful ending.
Wouldn’t hurt to have one upgrade the shooting, graphics, combat (properly), and some other stuff especially when the remaster came out recently and it’s underperforming.
Angel Valdez the only thing I didn’t like about Mafia:DE was the fact that it used Mafia 3’s lackluster shooting mechanics, ugh it was a huge turnoff but I still enjoyed the game none the less.
Mafia OG : *Fear* Mafia 2 : *Surprised* Mafia Definitive Edition : *Acceptance* It's like Tommy fate is destined to be this way no matter how many his life restarts but he started to get used to a point he accepted it.Kinda tragic tbh.
I like the remastered version the original one he's shocked and doesn't know what's coming and he's caught off guard but remastered version he knows what's coming and he's not scared he's been waiting for this moment his whole life Lol
dan tan bruh stop. Tom was prepared to die. I hated that in the original he was surprised. He’s smart enough to know that after 18 years in another city if someone calls him by his real name his time is up. The remaster did 100% better when it came to Tommy death. I played both and I can honestly say the DE made me feel worse about myself
Wish they could’ve made the scene like the original, I liked the way Tommy died, he felt that after so many years he escaped the life only for it to come biting back. Not only that the music and Tommy’s original monologue really made the scene which really showed the tragedy of being in the Mafia. The remake gave off a more menacing tone with the music which ruined the scene for me, because you’re meant to feel sad, not scared of what’s to come.
This game is incredible, even at 4:51 Tommy shuts one eye more than the other when thinking about his family. Trying not to think about them, he does this a few times throughout the story if you're sharp you'll see what I mean,
I hope not. Mafia 2's engine was perfect. Too good to be fucked by Mafia 3's edgy glitch ridden engine. Though not gonna lie; adding more cut/ eta missions n features and an actually flushed out Joe's Adventures would be nice though.
That was a Shock. I didn't play the Original and i totally forgot that Scene from Mafia II. The Moment i saw him watering his Garden it clicked in my Head. A very sad Moment 😢
Vito: mr. Angelo? Tommy from the original: 😰Uh…yes?😰 Tommy from the Remake: 😔Yes.😏 Tommy from the Remake went out like a true gangster, and a family man.
You know, the world isn't run by the laws written on paper. It's run by people. Some according to laws, others not. It depends on each individual how his world will be, how he makes it. And you also need a whole lot of luck, so that somebody else doesn't make your life hell. And it ain't as simple as they tell you in grade school. But it is good to have strong values and to maintain them. In marriage, in crime, in war, always and everywhere. I messed up. So did Paulie and Sam. We wanted a better life, but in the end we were a lot worse off than most other people. You know, I think it's important to keep a balance in things. Yeah, balance, that's the right word. Because the guy who wants too much risks losing absolutely everything. Of course, the guy who wants too little from life, might not get anything at all. THIS is the monologue, sorry if I offend anyone, but I do not care about the family crap he's talking about in DE, THIS shit is my canon for all times
The original still gets me crying even after all these years.. dunno, they changed so mutch in the remake, it does almost feel like a different story, or alternate timeline *lookingatyouavengers* but the outcome stays the same. The devs on the remake tried to make it special, but in my opinion, something that is already perfect, doesnt need to change. Some of the best quotes from the original are even missing! Like that whole thing with Sarah's best friend Michelle.. that was a weird way to twist the story. Same with the sigars/diamont mission. The definitive edition feels more in tone with MAFIA II and III, maybe that was the point - to connect them better. Let's call it the Hangar 13 version of Mafia, based off the original City of Lost Heaven.
They made the Michelle mission so much better and it connected the end with Sam a lot better, now the diamond/cigar mission made no sense there was no point in changing it
The ending was so depressing holy shit I need a good while to recover. I can never look at Vito and Joe in the same light again especially after playing mafia 2 before this remake
“Family is forever” That chill that runs down the spine at that line… Damn. Master class in making a loving remake (controls coulda been better but aesthetic and story-perfect)

My favorite thing about the new DE ending isn't just that Tommy seems to accept his fate, but that he is able to see his family before he dies. He even gets to tell them that they are all safe now.... Its really just a beautiful ending. Bittersweet for sure. But beautiful all the same.

Exactly. Great comment.
The remake version is the best, i love that they changed up the way he reacts and that his family comes out and he gets to tell them it's okay
The new ending is outstanding. Just heartbreaking that Tommy can die calmly knowing that his family is safe with his death.
Least he was murdered by (at least from his perspective) some unknown goons and not people he considered his friends and family, and he got to secure his wife and kids before he went out.
Tommy ratted out his boss
as a result, he died
Vito ratted out his boss
as a result, he is alive and well and ruling the streets
Vito didn’t rat out his boss?? He co-signed Henry the rat and the family would not forgive him for that so he was sent away
Mafia 1: Tommy bleeding out

I prefer Tommy's original monolouge over the definitive one. On the other hand I really like that in the new one he instantly realises what's going on, just by being called Mr. Angelo.
I think being called his original name would give it away pretty quickly
I love how Vito looks exactly the same in the remake, but Joe now looks like a mix between Danny Devito and Joe Pesci.
Tommy's original speech is so much better than the DE version it's a shame not very many people will hear it

In Mafia 4 Tommy's daughter gets revenge by killing Vito with a golf club 🏌♀️

I like the very subtle nod at 8:03 and the extremely subtle smile of acknowledgement at 8:07. As soon as he heard "Mr. Angelo" he knew the deal and accepted his fate. This is the difference between the original and the remake.
Vito : Mr Angelo?
Tommy : Uh No?
Vito: Crap Joe wrong house
Joe: Vito, da fuck ya talkin' about? He looks just like the fucking picture!
I wish they’d do a full rebuild of mafia 2, like they did with Mafia. The “remaster” of mafia 2 we got recently was missing a lot.
Only after playing the Mafia remake I now know why that scene in Mafia 2 is so significant. Damn
I actually liked the remake one’s scene
It speaks how Tommy already know a hit will be put on him once he tried to walk out that life
-Mr. Angelo?
-No, i'm Rip Van Winkle
- Understandable, have a nice day.
Weirdo
Nah, think about it. Here Toms character is complete. Original Tommy was not, so his life is actually the price he paid. This is why we should feel like crap, to feel the moral of the story, to feel more his story.
Yes true, the shocking ending was better in my opinion, even if you wait your whole life for someone to whack you and ur mentally prepared to accept this kind of ending, you still be surprised when the actual moment will come, I love this ending too cuz we can see what happened after he got shot, this is a beautiful ending.
