Boney M were one of the first Western pop groups to perform in Russia (USSR back then) in 1978, but the communist gov banned 'Rasputin' when it was released... the lyrics were based around the rumors (mostly unfounded) about the so-called Russian 'holy man'... A US doom metal band Type O Negative actually put Rasputin on the cover of their 2007 album 'Dead again' (and the Tsar's 4 children on the back cover) and wrote the track 'The profit of doom' about Rasputin. Boney M was formed by a W. German producer named Frank Farian who recruited 4 Caribbean performers in 1974 for his pop group... 3 women and 1 man... 2 women did most of the vocals (Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett) while Maizie Williams was in the background... the male, Bobby Farrell did not sing (he lip-synced 'deep' vocals that Frank Farian recorded of himself) but was known for his dancing skills. The group debuted in 1976 and became disco music superstars in Europe by 1978 and in Asia by 1980 (American success was limited). Boney M scored huge hits in the 1970's like - 'Ma Baker'... "Rivers of Babylon'... 'No woman no cry' (Bob Marley cover)... 'Belfast'..."Hooray! Hooray! It's a holi-holiday!"... 'Daddy cool'...🔥🔥 The 80's began w/ disco music falling out of flavor... Boney M's last 3 albums failed commercially by 1985 and the group disbanded. They each performed separately as 'Boney M'...over years. Bobby Farrell passed away in 2010.
Roberto Alfonso Farrell (6 October 1949 - 30 December 2010)[2] was an Aruban dancer and singer. He was the male member of the 1970s pop and disco group Boney M. He died on the morning of 30 December 2010, in a hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia, of heart failure

It is for sure a russian music-sound influence in this song. I like the music of Boney M,one very interesting detail is that it was not the singer on the stage here that actually did the singing but the groups founder and producer, the german producer Frank Farian with his really unique sounding voice, a white guy,not black which many people would probably believe it was,but it was Frank Farian that did sing and this guy,Bobby something, forgot his last name, did only fake that he was singing. My first introduction to black comedy from when I was a little kid, though I didn't really appreciate how insane this is until much later. I'd love to know how this madness came to be!
Frank Farian (born Franz Reuther; 18 July 1941)[1] is a German record producer, musician, singer and songwriter, who founded the 1970s disco-pop group Boney M., the Latin pop band No Mercy and the pop band Milli Vanilli. He frequently created vocal groups in which the publicised members merely lip-sync to songs sung by session members. He owns the record label MCI and several subsidiaries. Over the course of his career, Farian has sold over 850 million records and earned 800 gold and platinum certifications.

Maybe this has been recorded from one of those later re-airings and therefore this part is missing.
Watching and listening to the music reminds me that so many clubs for dancing have become restaurants for eating. Also the words suggest that anyone they don't like gets poisoned.
The funniest dance to this I ever saw was in Doctor Who last year - they had the main villain, The Master, do a strange dance to it - and his allies just rolled their eyes.
You're not the only one who doesn't like many "modern" American women. Many traditional American men also stay the heck away from them. So glad you got joy from watching Boney M. During the Disco era they were very big. And so much fun!
There is no such things as "traditional" Americans you're all immigrants. The only traditional American were and are the native Americans. Give it a rest incel.
Thanks for reacting. I guess some people went to their history books as it makes it enjoyable to learn when more fun😂 R.I P Bobby Farrel, loved his Energy and crazy dancing. 🕺🤤🥳
Rasputin was a vampire. He had powers of hypnotism and claimed he could heal the Czarina's son who was ill from some 'anaemic' condition, as if he was losing blood somehow... They ended up poisoning, beating and shooting him. He wouldn't die. In the end they tossed him bound and gagged in the river to drown. He ended up dying of hypothermia lol.... or did he?.....
Interesting note, 'Rasputin' was written by Frank Farian, who also does the male singing in these songs. He's from Germany. Look him up. The guy you are seeing in this video is just someone Farian hired for tours, he's not the actual singer.
Yes, the band is Milli Vanilli before Milli Vanilli, hell, both groups were put together by the same guy. (Who also put together the band the Real Milli Vanilli, which wasn't very real either)
Magic - Love this song, your reaction was so funny, you can hear the Russian stuff Boney M put into this great song but that crazy mad man dancing makes a Scottish man laugh never mind a Russian girl and Montana 🦄🦄🦄🦄
This is a fun song, conceived and written by a German producer (and electronic pop pioneer), expressing in the voice of black Caribbeans, regarding the very much misunderstood exploits of ol' Rasputin. Oh, and all of it fueled by cocaine, I have no doubt. Not only that, but the singers weren't the singers, if I remember rightly, kind of like Milli Vanilli a decade later. I'll only add that, for even more laughs, you need to check out the official promo video. Now **that** is a real hoot!
Milli Vanilli and Boney M were put together by the same person, Frank Farian. After the whole Milli Vanilli fiasco, Frank Farian put out a band called "The Real Milli Vanilli"...and wouldn't you know it, just like Milli Vanilli and Boney M, it was fake too.
Not Russian. Boney-M was a West German pop group created by Frank Farian (the male voice in the song). They, and another Frank Farian band, Millie Vanilli were often criticized as being fake, as the stage performers were called out as just lip syncing to the studio productions. There are at least two versions of Boney-M still touring. Controversy aside, their music is great.

Lovely dog dancing at 6:26❤️
There is a viral TIK TOD dances / Challengers with RASPUTIN REMIX song version
The Norwegian singer Aurora did a really good cover of this song I think you might also like
They were ahead of time
They were also fake.
HELLO FROM CROATIA❤️
You're not the only one who doesn't like many "modern" American women. Many traditional American men also stay the heck away from them. So glad you got joy from watching Boney M. During the Disco era they were very big. And so much fun!
Traditional American men, or did you mean Modern American men?
We can all love ourselves more
There is no such things as "traditional" Americans you're all immigrants. The only traditional American were and are the native Americans. Give it a rest incel.
Yeah modern American men want nothing to do with modern American women
“Misogynists” takes less time to type than “traditional American men.”
We INDIANS love u RUSSIANS a lot❤❤❤...✅✅✅😍
they did this version of the song at Sopot.
I loved song ❤😎
Thanks for reacting. I guess some people went to their history books as it makes it enjoyable to learn when more fun😂 R.I P Bobby Farrel, loved his Energy and crazy dancing. 🕺🤤🥳
So true!
VOIDRAKER SAYS YES. ❤
Boney M were awesome!!
Imho this song was an example to follow for East German band Dschingis Khan. Their song Moskau was released approx. 1 yr after this masterpiece
Lol your dog looks so chill with you
Just because I talk about Rasputin doesn't mean it's a Russian song, it doesn't have to offend you, it shows that you feel uncomfortable

Glad you enjoyed
Super awesome energy, you rock girl. I love your selection of music Irena, something for everyone.
I love bony m
Ha ha. This was hilariously awesome when it came out. Still weirdly awesome now. :)
Magic - Love this song, your reaction was so funny, you can hear the Russian stuff Boney M put into this great song but that crazy mad man dancing makes a Scottish man laugh never mind a Russian girl and Montana 🦄🦄🦄🦄
Boney M did not put shit into anything, it's a fake band put together by the same asshole who put fake ass Milli Vanilli together lol.
After the whole Milli Vanilli fiasco, Frank Farian put out a band called "The Real Milli Vanilli"...and wouldn't you know it, just like Milli Vanilli and Boney M, it was fake too.
can you react to mary hopkins Those were the days plus the seekers The carnival is over as both i believe were russian songs
can you send a link if you have one
Just to add to my last comment. There are 2 versions of the song ( in English and russian).
80s, the explosion of Disco Music. Donna Summer was the queen of that period, when I was 20 years old. In the nightclub this music was very popular.
Should check out the 'Epic Rap Battles of History' doing 'Rasputin vs Stalin'
I love your intro by Busta Rhymes 🎉
thank you, it always puts me into a good mood
