Given that Japanese culture has become way more mainstream in the US this decade, I think this is the perfect time for Sony to reintroduce Toro to the west

I've noticed that Toro Inoue and Kuro have been getting a resurgence in popularity recently, what with there being an increase in love for silly cats on the internet, which these two fit the bill quite well. I'm glad that this is happening, because it shows that despite being pretty much unknown overseas, people still love Toro. I'd love to see him become more prominent as Sony's mascot outside of Japan, but I'm not sure if that'll happen, considering that Sony have made many poor decisions with the PlayStation brand lately; the closure of Japan Studio being just one of them.
Ah well, even if they don't give the Doko Demo Issyo series any new games, Toro will always be a big part of the legacy of PlayStation, and this video does a great job at showing that!

I've always been a Toro Inoue fan but only knew of the PocketStation game. Really wish he was brought to the west, he's a very likeable and cute mascot that Sony kinda needs.

I honestly love Toro, if he comes back in a new game or even a psasbr 2, he should be updated a bit to kinda make him a celebration of Playstation's history
hey, with toro and more parties ,you have to keep talking to toro for a while until you are able to input a word, which toro wants to be a name of a person. after answering questions about said person he will then write the first 3 letters of the name on his torso. after this, talk to him one more time and a kuro (black stray cat) will hit toro and transfer the name onto his torso.
after this, talk another time and when you automatically pick up toro, bring him over to the named kuro, then talking with toro a few more times and you'll teach him another word which will be given to another kuro, who will then put on coloured shirts, after this combo then you can freely learn him name to give to the other kuros and kuros will either make a new shirt colour by dropping two unshirted kuros ontop of eathother or get an already existing one by dropping a kuro ontop of a shirted one. after this, you can just kinda follow what toro and the kuros say.
tl;dr you just have to keep talking to toro and teach him names to give to the kuros, and I probably made it sound more complicated then it actually is

22:19 You are meant to help Toro teach all the other (black) stray cats, in turn, everything you have taught him. Toro basically teaches down what you taught him, and some of the "fun" comes from the decay of information (because Toro does not perfectly teaches the cats, the same way you screwed up teaching him about apples).
Hello, I really want to say that this in-depth video was an extremely sweet appreciation. Toro Inoue is one of the mascots that deserve to have appreciation and recognition as one of Playstation's beloved mascots around the globe. Toro has always been a lifelong memory that I have kept locked inside my heart since the 2000s. You see, I've discovered the Sony Cat when I was in middle school because I used to watch a show called Cinematech that used to air on G4(a video game channel that used to be on TV). That's how I found about Toro when Cinematech showed *Toro on Holiday* , but it was mistakenly titled as *Taro's Day Off* , and that made me believed his name was Taro. It wasn't until I was 30 years old in 2021 that I came across Toro on the internet, and just one look at him instantly sent me a flashback of him from *Toro on Holiday* shown in G4's Cinematech. So since then, Toro Inoue has been a precious character from a solved memory to me, and I felt this sweet fondness/love for him as he's one of my favorite characters in video games. I ship him with Jun Mihara, they are one of my favorite interspecies pairings like Knuckles the Echidna x Rouge the Bat from Sonic the Hedgehog, Falco Lombardi x Katt Monroe from Star Fox, Legosi x Haru from Beastars, Klonoa x Lolo from Klonoa, and PaRappa Rappa x Sunny Funny from PaRappa the Rapper(a franchise also exclusive to Playstation and deserves to have a comeback). I headcanon that in 2023, Toro is currently 44 years old(born May 6, 1979 since Doko Demo Issyo is from 1999). He has been married to one of close friends Jun(Mrs.Jun Inoue) who is 43 going on 44 in August since spring 2006(17 years), and they have 3 cabbit children who are fraternal triplets: son Hito Inoue, son Eru Inoue, and daughter Moka Inoue who were born in April 2008, so they are 15 years old. I also recently came up a kawaii headcanon that Loona(I also headcanon the beautiful moon hellhound being fluent in Japanese) from Vivziepop's Helluva Boss is surprisingly a huge fangirl of Toro Inoue, and would tend to buy anything related to Toro and the DDI franchise like video games, merchandise, etc. My true hope for Toro Inoue the Sony Cat is that he will someday have a magical comeback by having a brand new game released on the PS5, and that it will release outside of Japan and have well-deserved release in the West while hoping he'd have more cameos and guest appearances in Playstation games, and return as a fighter in Playstation All-Star Round 2(and by luck, PSAS3 for the PS6, and then more PSAS games to come in future Sony consoles to come). Maybe the new DDI can be a game where Toro travels to the United States and blend in with the culture. *Toro in America* (acronyms: TIA), rated E10+. Anyways, thank you for all of your efforts that you put in this dedicated video for Toro Inoue. I know this is a super long comment, but I hope it was worth it. I really love it just like how much I will always love Playstation's number 1 neko nya nya! I always thought as a kid that vib-ribbon/Virbri was the mascot of PlayStation lol. I only found out recently that Toro was the mascot if PlayStation :0

Thank you for covering the history of this funy little guy so in-depth. Ive gotten into the Toro-verse maybe half a year ago and started playing the psp games with a translator, just like you did. But damn was i lost im translation.. When toro moved out and the game ended for the first time i was genuinly upset and thought i must have done something wrong (i had the good ending). if i would have had access to this video back then it would have helped me through my doko demo journey a lot! I really hope this finds the right people and maybe even aids those, who wanna get into the games themselfs too!

Great video, loved the length and content, i find toro really interesting since i have always liked checking out japanese sites (even if i know 0 japanese) since i was young, and as a owner of the ps3 i remember seeing toro on the japanese PSN store and online websites of sony or for fans of the playstation, this video was really nostalgic for me and it was great.
I really wish that the new entry of mainline Toro games comes out internationally (if sony decides to ever do one), even just a new live service broadcast would be cool.

Now that Jim Ryan is in control, Toro Inoue's days are truly numbered. Since the launch of the PS5, he has been MIA in Japan.
He’s been MIA in Japan on PlayStation since the PS4! Blame Shawn Laydon!
@@dodgykebaab Sony Interactive Japan was the main branch when Laydon was in charge of the American Branch. He had no say in what goes on in Japan, only Shuhei Yoshida.
It wouldn't be until Jim Ryan taking power where the Japanese branch lost power and the American branch became the main branch. Since then, Sony turned its back against its Japanese roots, and the entire brand suffered from Global Americanization. Toro was an unfortunate victim of this, as Sony Japan Studio shut down shortly after the launch of the PS5.
Personally, I feel that Toro and his games might have a chance again, given the recent change in leadership at PS and increased level of DDI promotion in Japan recently. I guess it all depends on what happens next year, given their tendency to release or annouce a new DDI game every 5 years (barring 2014). Also, despite Japan Studio shutting down and the rest of those IPs being jeopardized, DDI was mostly actually developed by BeXide, not Japan Studio, so a new DDI game being developed is still possible.

Toro has had a bit of cross promotion with the "Ape Escape" series as well. Most particularly in the Japan exclusive title "Ape Escape Millions Monkeys" from 2006, in which Toro and his friends made cameo appearances.

Adding to this, Toro, Jun, Suzuki, Pierre, and Ricky are all summons that you can get if you find them. I don't think I showed what they all do in my UA-cam guide, but I remember 4/5 of them.
Toro: Attacks everything on screen with army of black cats.
Jun: I could not figure out what Jun did.
Suzuki: Throws box of bombs.
Pierre: Sometimes gives healing and energy items, sometimes does nothing.
Ricky: Creates ground shockwave.

So small little correction on the Street Fighter X Tekken bit, while Toro is a clone of Ryu, Kuro isn't a clone of Ken, he's instead a clone of Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken series, (You can actually see this if you look at their designs) I'm sure that was a mistake in either recording or the script though. Two other smaller things I want to mention about them in SFXT though, 1, they actually change the music you hear on the Vs screen if you have at least one of them on your team, and they also have their own theme song that can be heard in battle like most characters, not sure if it's a remix of a song from the series though, and 2, they also made plushies of the designs used in the game that I want to an unhealthy degree.
And one more thing, I actually checked to see if any of the game were at least on the Japanese PS Plus Premium service, and from what I can tell, only Toro To MorMori, or TORO! Let's Party is on it sadly, and considering it's called by its Japanese name it's also not the Hong Kong English version.

Ah yes, Master chef the iconic Xbox video game series where you fight to defend yourself from Gordon Ramsay and his onslaught of kitchen utensils.
I played some of the mobile puzzle game that got an English release not too many years back (2019...2020?) to my huge surprise. The translation was absolutely horrible, and it never got even 10% of the updates that the Japanese version did. I think it shut down like a year after its launch. Possibly even less. I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of it is now lost media outside of limited screenshots on devices including mine, it had SO few downloads over here.

I think you are thinking of the PlayStation 20th anniversary event.
It was a Japanese event in 2014 to mark 20 years of PlayStation and it featured Toro and kuro who guided people around the event floor
