It’s bizarre in hindsight. In a place where customers are looking for a “quick fix”, studio’s decided to release games that could take 45 minutes-1 hour to play through
Loved my Master System even while all my mates were on Megadrive! I did eventually join them but fond memories of Wonder Boy and Action Fighter. Great video with the Essex humour mixed in!
Managed to find an old Level[Swedish Magazine] where they ranked the Master System from 12 to 1. Also included the story on how Dennis manged to sell it to the nordic countries despite being one step behind Nintendo. Top 4 was 1: Phantasy Star 2: Wonder boy 3:Sonic the hedgehog 4:R-Type
Excellent video! I would like to tell a story about the Master System, but just like in Europe, here in Brazil, the Master System was very popular And it marked the lives of many players who started playing video games thanks to this fantastic SEGA console.
"you'd have to go out of your way to screw this up." Ah, you've not seen the GBC verison then? They got it right on the GBA and I'm looking forward to trying the SMS version now.
Space Harrier adds a new boss and music track Wonder Boy 1 adds the dolls and bonus levels, and WB 2 is better balanced Shinobi changes more things not mentioned: Gain new weapons and refill health/extend your life bar by rescuing hostages (nunchaku, knives, grenades and... mini-rockets!), Less cheap samurai boss, Can’t use magic on bosses Bubble Bobble has 100 additional levels After Burner adds bosses and it was fun at the time, really you could get used to the choppiness and the slower speed still made it easier than the arcade game
Nothing better than bringing the arcade home!
Even better when that arcade includes Wonder Boy In monster land!
@@dodgykebaab it is weird how there was a short period of time where action games were in arcades

@@dodgykebaab I suppose people put lots of money in to keep the game going.
After Burner on the SMS was so broken, you could complete nearly the entire game by just flying in the top left or right of the screen.
Ayo larry bundy is here?
if im ever feeling blue.. I always come and catch a dodgykebbab video
.. and life is much better afterwards :D

Cool video. And you’re right that afterburner climax is awesome…I still regularly play it on my PS3.
Climax is fantastic. I first played in in Tokyo during a trip in 2007. When it came to PS3, it was a day 1 purchase for me.

That’s a strong list
An older Dodgykeebab video mentioned a fan translation on Phantasy Star on the PS2.

Always weird to hear your voice on UA-cam Si, but always good stuff!
I remember seeing afterburner machine in terminator 2 😮
good times.
I played arcade games until PC games in 1999. I also dabbled in ps1 and xbox1. Then I played wow for 15 years. Now I play War Robots on my phone.

WB2+WB3 best games on the system hands down
Do anime game exist back in this period?
In Japan they did. Many Famicom & MSX anime games. Some Mark III games like Zillion.
In the west, almost none.
Wow Nintendo prices has always been borked huh ?
This is great, but we all have to recognize that xbox is the best console ever.
It is.
So long as we are not including anything made by Sony, Nintendo or Sega.
