      Not intimidating at all you must be a right girl, I think it's nothing try it against a load of vikings they would get destroyed, I'd love to see the two tribes fight because we all know the mori what ever there called didn't conquer anyone ! But vikings conquered the world pretty much

    Honestly as a Māori Wahine ( female ), the best Haka are the ones that come from the heart, the ones done with so much mana and pride. The most thrilling ones that I’ve experienced are either from ‘Kapa Haka’ performances ( recommend people to watch clips of these, get a more solid look into our Māori culture ) and special family occasions. The most beautiful one for me was the one I received by my family from back home in New Zealand on camera for my 21st birthday over here in Australia. Every Haka tells a story, I know it may come off as weird to others but this is apart of my culture and identity. I take pride in it, honour it and down right love it.

      maybe in the NBA is not that of a contact sport, but if you play basketball in Europe, especially on the Balcan area and Turkey, you know that you have to be prepared for lots of contact during the game. We have very tough defence, and we don't care about the show that much but for the win.

    Of all the traditional arts that humanity has ever created for thousands of years of anthropological evolution and development, the Haka is one of the most imposing, formidable, and effective creation to have ever been made. The ability to express one's strength and ferocity in such a terrifyingly beautiful way against one's adversaries is phenomenal. To think that this art is still preserved and lives on to the 21st century is amazing. I hope that it can be passed down for generations to come.

      The only reason field hockey and cricket come high up on the list, is because they were dumped in India as the reject sports that they are by the Brits, whilst they went home and watched football instead.

    This is taking pride in your nation and people to the extreme. No one else does this. I like this. Savage and dangerous war chanting makes things better. Intimidating your enemies.

      This is pretty impressive, but ironically, there are a lot of accounts in history of battles between Romans and various barbarian tribes... in the earlier centuries when the Romans were more disciplined, they would spook their enemy by walking up on them without stopping and in complete silence. But then again, the psychology of combat it not exactly the same as sport.

      Mhmm back in the olden days the Maori tribes could be invaded easily so they preformed a "war dance" (Haka, yes it literally means war dance) to scare the invaders off. Aaaah I love Maori culture

    I’m completely willing to be wrong, please correct me if that’s the case... but I think the Haka before a sporting event is the closest approximation and example of true ancient warrior tradition of officially beginning a battle.
    What a powerful and beautiful piece of Maori culture.
    Respect 🙏🏻

    We should have a Haka acceptance for the other teams to present! Each country doing their own war cry in honor and respect! And create a whole new tradtion for Rugbi and Sport! Not just for the sake of it but as a representation of what it is to be human!

    • @fagnersousa5906
      @fagnersousa5906 9 років тому +15

      +Richard Down it would be nice. The problem is that not all countries have a cultural background in the same way New Zealand has. And some have it in a much bigger proportion. I mean, New Zealand have basically two different ethnic groups: the Maori and the European descendants. The Haka is cultural ritual from the Maori. In their case is easy. But take a country like mine, Brazil, which has hundreds of different native ethnicities, each one with their own roots, culture and traditions, some with great rivalries with others, plus the immigrants from all over the world, literally. If we would do something like that, at some point we would dishonor one tribe to honor other. And not only here. There are countries in Africa with thousands of aboriginal tribes, plus the european descendants. Imagine the problem they would have trying to do something like this? It's complicated, although I think it would be cool...
