In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of the Golden Sun franchise. Golden Sun is an RPG franchise developed by Camelot Software Planning and produced by Nintendo. The original two games, Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, were planned to be a single game, but were split into two due to the limitations of the Game boy Advance. Development on Golden Sun also started on the Nintendo 64. Golden Sun often appears in best games lists from publications like IGN. The series i held in high regard, and is known for it's epic tales and stellar music.

That's the problem right now. I was hoping Isaac would make the cut for Smash DLC when they took suggestions from the Ballot, but alas. Not that I dislike the characters they added, Bayonetta is actually really cool and I love having her in Smash and get more recognition. I always said, if Little Mac can graduate from Assist Trophy then so can Isaac, but we'll see. Smash 5? New DLC for a Switch ported Smash 4? I can only hope.

The wise one would've stopped Santuros and Menardi. It's because of Isaac's interference that the world was saved.
@@dpray96 I don't think he would have directly intervened, I mean he said it himself that if they wanted the world saved they'd have to do it themselves. Also the dragons were made specifically to fight the group. The end of The Lost Age dragon was only made for revenge against Isaac and co for killing Santuros and Mernardi. If Isaac and co hadn't killed them then Mernardi's sister (blanking on the name right now) wouldn't have had that hatred, and therefore wouldn't have turned the family into that dragon.
At least that's how I look at it, speculation is fun XD

+icarus918 I actually quite enjoyed Dark Dawn... but it was honestly way too easy, and finding everything wasn't really much of a challenge. The story itself though felt like Golden Sun, and that's also why I wouldn't mind seeing them develop another game. They shouldn't feel limited by the characters that they have created though. They have the world itself, or rather, the concept of it.

Yes! Golden Sun has not simply a special place in my heart, but a CENTRAL place. I've known and loved the series (particularly the music) since I was a child. I have never been unaware of it. I REALLY desire a #GoldenSun4 and #Isaac4Smash

+The Blue Mantis Underrated? The first two games are often touted as two of the best titles in the GBA, and rightfully so. As far as appreciated JRPGs in the west go, I'm pretty sure the golden sun series would at least be in the top 10.

Yet, if I was to place Golden Sun in that list, personally I'd rank it near to the top in terms of quality over popularity. So I guess I should have used "underappreciated" rather than "underrated".

there's been a ton of fan demand over the years, as one of those fans I know that a large audience wants another Golden Sun to be made, unfortunately there is a lager louder audience that wants more mario games and so that is what gets heard
which is a shame tbh, id take a new golden sun over a mario game any day. Heck id even take it over a new legend of zelda and i love that series
theyve probably noticed how much of a market there is by now considering isaac was one of the highest demanded smash characters, but i heard somewhere that camelot's current development team is full of people who just arent ready to tackle a full on rpg like golden sun

I loved this game series to death. Golden Sun was one of my first ever games on the GBA. I remember telling myself that Saturos and Menardi were like the serious, more badass versions of Jesse and James from Pokemon.
I just wish SOMEONE would explain to me WHAT is "enough demand" already. Nowdays we're just short of going straight to their homes and crying clinging to their leg but there's never enough demand.
"Fan demand" = Money.
GS3 didn't earn enough money.
If the companies available don't think the studios product isn't profitable, distributors aren't going to pick up the IP.

Seeing Golden Sun on the GBA at the time was ALMOST like seeing Octopath Traveler on the Switch in terms of visual style and how it was so stunning. I would show my friends Golden Sun on GBA and they were so blown away by the game and graphics that they ended up buying GBAs for themselves to play it. I would always get my friends to buy Nintendo consoles when I was younger so I had people to play with. Nintendo probably owes me a check.

this game is the greatest game i have ever played in my entire life, when my father was still alive I would play this when I spent time with him, this gave me an escape from all this horrible world
This game is one of the best games ever made, in my opinion. A true classic. It shaped my tastes and experiences with future games, as I played it as a wee lad. This series seriously needs a revival. Such wasted potential if it never sees another.

Nah, it's not too much. Let me tell you I want the exact same things, and Camelot has been busy until recently working on Mario Sports titles.

Man, this game is literally one of the best games ever! I mean the countless of hours/replays I put into this franchise is a lot more then any Call of Duty Fan Boy could ever put online. (Just an expression). I remember when I was really young (around the age of 6) and had no idea how to play the damn game. My father got it for me in this "value" pack. I was stuck at the Sol Sanctum. I would start the game over many times thinking you had to defeat Saturous and Mernardi at the start because if you didn't defeat them you were stuck in an alternative story line. Then one faithful morning, I accidentally used the Jewel instead of a herb inside the Sol Sanctum. The door opened. Needless to say I didn't go to school that day. After that I don't remember the last 14 years. I enjoyed Dark Dawn but I didn't enjoy it as much as the originals. The beauty of the original two games I loved the most was climbing the lighthouses to prevent them from being lit (as Issac) or to ignite them once more (as Felix) and re-awaken Alchemy in Weyard. The feeling where the decisions you made in the first game impacted the second game. The series itself is amazing and I would absolutely love to see the game re-mastered in HD (imagine climbing the lighthouses in HD and being able to explore Vale, Kalay, Tolbi, Lemuria, the list goes on) as well as a Golden Sun 4. Camelot/Nintendo need to promote this game more. There's hundreds of thousands of people who want it and many more like me who would love to see the story continue. I can't get enough of the series. To this day I will still emulate and play the games on my mobile phone during my commute! I absolutely love this game and wouldn't it be a treat to see it at E3 this year!?

In response to your question of how Alex survived: he has like 99% of the power of the Golden Sun. I mean you saw him in Dark Dawn. He can fly now! He clearly used his new power and strength to escape.

We did see the Wise One put him down hard and then watched his body get dragged down below the Earth & on top of it all a Giant "Golden Sun" ;) was seen where Vale used to be. So explain to me how he escaped all that. Lmao. Seriously, I only wish we got to see Ivan, Mia, Jenna, Piers, Felix & Sheba in Dark Dawn. Even as like little Easter Eggs. From all the large Jrpgs Turn base, GS is a lost lost amazing gem. Golden Sun did RPG right and strayed away from RPG stereotypes and had such an amazing unique feel to it. My Middle School days and early High school days were a blessing because of GS.

Just make a Golden Sun character for smash with a amiibo and build Hype. It worked for Kid icrus and that series only had two games. I really hope nintendo takes advantage of the amiibo hype to push their B -series games. It seemed like it might've boosted splatton sells.

Everyone is rebooting old franchises through crowdfunding. I don't see why Camelot can't. I would throw my money at them! Seriously though, a new Golden Sun on 3DS would be magical.
+Daveyx0 I've never supported anything via crowdfunding, yet I'd do it immediately, without any hesitation for Golden Sun.
+Daveyx0 Well those franchises and the people working on them normally don't have regular funding because they just went indie. Mighty No9. is indie, Yooka Laylee and that castlevania spiritual successor is the same. The big exception is Shenmu, and that's having allot of scepticism and bull**** behind it. For golden sun, the studio is still a proper studio and they have the resources and funding to make another golden sun game, so they don't need kickstarter to make it, just public interest.
+giraton1 What's wrong with Shenmue 3? The main issue is, while SEGA did allow Shenmue 3, they only gave the license. Shenmue 1/2 are still under SEGA's lock-and-key and therefore no remakes are possible at this time. Not like remakes are entirely needed, but having all the games on a single platform properly would be nice nonetheless.
MegaScience Mostly in how its money is being used. A. Sony already is effectively paying for the game, the Kickstarter isn't doing anything FUNDING wise to the game, its effectively turned it into a pre-order system (I'm not gona go into pre-orders for that, because atleast this gauges interest for the game to see if it's worth making, unlike actual pre-orders) B. The stretch goals don't exactly apply to a fully funded game and may add things that may feel shoved in or would be in the base game anyway but risked taking them out should they have not been met. C. They haven't exactly been open with everything they are doing with that game.

I agree. I particularly like the beginning and middle of TLA. You feel so free to explore the world because you're not bound by the need to pursue anyone, as you are in GS1. And the ending of TLA can bring me to tears...oh how I love it!

Finally some love for my favorite GBA video game series! Most underrated game in history imo
Golden Sun needs more love. Imagine Nintendo with a kickass 3DS JRPG library of both Golden Sun, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade
Shining in the Darkness was my first RPG experience on the Genesis. I later fell in love with Shining Force 2 (the first was good, but 2 was a transcendental experience). I only got to play Shining Force CD a little bit, but it was pretty good, too. At some point I seem to have forgotten about this developer so this Golden Sun stuff is all new to me, but I'm definitely going to check it out now.
This game has such a special place in my heart. It is one of the RPGs I bonded with my late aunt over as a child. We talked about this nonstop and loved it -- among with Hamtaro.
This is one of the few games that I will always pray for a new game of, or a remaster. It is so special to me it would mean the world to me to have a remake, remaster, relaunch, anything...
I preordered Dark Dawn in a heartbeat. I wasn't let down but I had some disappointment in the rushed story that I'd hope for an expanded version or dlcs. Overall I loved most of it. The OST, designs, the unique djinni designs, bosses, new towns and cities etc.
Please Nintendo. Fund Camelot better or at least give them another chance.
Then I guess you gotta keep waiting. With douche fans who left all but bad reception for DD, Nintendo could care less about releasing a 4th installment. Meanwhile diehard fans like myself are still waiting 12 years later!

In my opinion, Dark Dawn wasn't bad, just not AS GOOD as GS1 and 2.

people have have asked for Isaac to be in Smash, but Sakurai doesn't like the idea, he used to be an assist trophy in brawl, but they removed him afterwards, the real struggle would be getting Sakurai to be okay with it
I don't think it's Sakurai saying specifically "I don't want Isaac" I just think there isn't enough demand to have him justify development. People always say that "Isaac is another anime swordsman" but if anybody could make a cool move-set it'd be him under the wing of Sakurai. Maybe eventually, and if it ever happen I can expect GS 4 to follow just like Pit and Marth.

I've been replaying the Golden sun games cause they were some of my favorite RPG's when I was growing up. Im always shocked this series hasn't had a 4th entry yet. The switch would be the perfect console for a new entry.
