54 is the highest level where any character learns a new psynergy power (Grand Gaia for Isaac) in the original. Anything above that is just overkill, even anything above 45 is overkill. Especially when lost age has ways to easily grind to level 99 with Phoenix spawns.
@@Stauf1515 Especially when you can easily finish the game at level 25 (if you have all Djinns) as by that point you have the most busted psynergy power in the game: Wish. Any spell in a rpg that let's you heal everyone at once is busted and I love it.

They were probably hoping for a sequel. And thank wiki for this. In an interview with Nintendo Gamer in June 2012, series producer Hiroyuki Takahashi spoke about the possibility of a fourth Golden Sun game; "A big reason for us making RPGs comes from the requests from all the people who have enjoyed our RPGs in the past. Perhaps if there are enough Nintendo users asking for another game in the Golden Sun series, then this will naturally lead to the development of such a game." I can only hope it gets revived by all of its fans. Wish we could organize a large scale event to show Nintendo that a lot of people really want a fourth.
Ugh, I hate that ending so much. Especially now that it's been several years since it's release with no word on any kind of closure. It's almost easier forgetting Dark Dawn happened.
@@Silyon487 True. I still really like the game, but it can be forgettable at times. Worst part is, the Takahashi brothers (God bless them) called 1 and 2 "prequels" and that Dark Dawn was the story they were getting around to. And now, look where we are. Hopefully they can get crowdfunding some day and make more happen, kinda like how "Bloodstained" got made by the guy from the Castlevania series
Jirard, I'm so happy that you played and completed this game, it's one of my favorite games ever, I still remember way back when I recommended this game to you during that podcast. For anyone that wants to play this game, I wanna share a few pro-tips: 1) Jenna will abandon your party early on, so you don't need to equip her, so before going to the Sol Sanctum, go to the entrance of Vale and buy the best equipment for Isaac and Garet, sell Jenna's equipment and even sell the Ticket that the shop owner will give you, this way you can afford everything for the boys. Also, if you wish to grind inside Sol Sanctum a little bit more, let Jenna get killed, once she reaches level 4 enemies will stop spawning, so you know, there's that. 2) There's a glitch at the start of the game, before you enter the first cave when you're going from Vault to Bilibin. Go east of the cave in the overworld and keep walking until you sort of glitch-walk by the side of the river, I recommend to save before each fight, because the monsters that spawn here are the enemies that show up around the Xian area, so they're pretty strong. You can grind here before going to Imil and fight Saturos. 3) Once you get reveal, USE IT EVERYWHERE! You'll find apples, loafs of bread and other items that increase your HP, attack and other stats. 4) When you finish the evil desert you can go back to Vale, and if you do you can get inside a cave that contains a wind djinn and a jupiter psyenergy that will help you when you go to Crossbone Island. 5) If you wish to go to Crossbone Island while you're crossing the Karagol Sea, when they ask you to choose people to row the boat, put fighters and strong people on the left and old people and ladies on the right, the ship will change directions and take you there. You won't get very far, but you can sell all the stuff that you find there and buy better gear. 6) When you reach Tolbi, use all those play tickets that vendors give to you when you buy gear to get boots and shirts (it's located on the top right of Tolbi), I recommend fast boots and sport shirts to increase your speed. 7) If you wish to grind before facing Deadbeard, you don't have to grind in the final room, you can grind even faster in the final desert, there are these enemies that create tornadoes and you have to use rain to fight them, the strategy is to make everyone faster than Isaac (remember the boots and the shirts? you can remove those from Isaac, for example), so they wither the enemy HP just enough for Isaac to kill them with a Venus Djinn, like Flint for example. This will give you even more EXP and by killing all the enemies and then leaving to rest in the nearby village, you can repeat this process and reach level 40 crazy fast, also you get a lot of money, and you might need it for the next game... speaking of the next game... 8) You can get your own personal password for the second game once you beat this one, what you need to do is, after you create a final save file, you hold LEFT and R and then press START, you will see a new SEND option, and you can either connect another GBA with a cable for transfer, or get the password, and you guessed it, write that sucker down! And also about the next game... 9) Once you start The Lost Age, use the password, because you will unlock gear and benefits from the first game right around the start of the adventure, and among the things that you have to do include: - Return to Vault when you beat the evil desert and talk to the mayor, he'll tell you that the bandits escaped, and they will show up early in the second game to fight you, and you will get the golden boots which increase your agility like a nutcase. - When Ivan gets Reveal, go east of that temple and use it to save Hsu, and Feizhi will give you an accessory in the second game. - The gladiators will return to face Isaac once again by the later half of the game, and you'll get the golden shirt which, again, is incredibly good. 10) By the end of the game I recommend to change the classes for everyone so Isaac and Garet become Ninjas with high attack and speed, and Ivan and Mia become Sages with access to Pure Wish. 11) And finally, there's a glitch in the game that allows you to get rare armor and weapons without having to grind, all you have to do is save the game, soft reset and walk around the area where the enemy that holds the item spawns, it MUST be accompanied by at least one more enemy, and depending on the item... well, you can check the golden sun wiki and check for the item that you want, and it will tell you the steps that you have to take to beat the enemy last and get the item everytime. I guess that's everything that I can say for this game, I've beaten it so many times that I can't even keep count, and you always find something new everytime, as you can see. I hope that you guys enjoy it as much as Jirard and I did, it's a treasure of a game, and hopefully they'll make a fourth game that explains that GOD DAMN cliffhanger.
Yess!!! Jirard is finally playing Golden Sun! I’ve been recommending this game to people for years! So many good memories of this game and The Lost Age :)
The Mad Man did it! Can we give this man the Golden UA-camr award? My Man really completed Golden Sun. It's a good day to be a Golden Sun or Completionist fan.
Golden Sun 1 and 2 have to be my favorite games of all time.. and never have I encountered anything which came close. It's the combination of an interesting story, setting, together with rather easy gameplay which still can be challenging. I truly hope to see Golden Sun brought back to light again on the Nintendo Switch in a 4th game, or an entire reboot of the series. Still keeping out hope. A new Golden Sun game would instantly make me buy a Switch.
All your concerns with the 1st one are answered in the 2nd game. End game challenges, more story-focused, difficulty spike with one secret boss in particular
I always knew golden sun was a good game but man jirard the way you talked about it makes me want to play it besides I just finished chrono trigger so yeah more jrpgs
Something i noticed that wasnt mentioned in the introduction; a big part of golden sun's appeal is that massive and epic soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba, who worked on Dark Souls, the Tales series, and Star Ocean, and is a progressive rock keyboard virtuoso in his own right.
Yeah. Such a great hot take on the game. I never realized that it really is just the perfect beginner rpg. Good story, good combat, good equipment/stat balancing, good skill balancing, good puzzles, good dungeons, good monster design, good overworld design...just a good rpg. Nothing great or done perfectly, but everything is done well enough to be more than satisfying.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was my first RPG got really far on my first copy but then I lost it. I liked it so much I got another copy. Couldn't beat the final boss but adored the game.
I highly recommend playing the first 2. Dark dawn wasn't bad or anything but it was literally a step bellow the previous games in all respects and was basically a prologue to the true story that we never got.
Mia Williams it was my introduction to the series as well. I had to emulate the first two for a while since they were expensive as hell, but I eventually managed to get my hands on physical copies
#IsaacForSmash #IsaacforSmashBros #IsaacSmash #IsaacSmashBros #AssistAlliance There's always hope, either for Golden Sun 4, or Isaac eventually being playable in Super Smash Bros. Hopefully our words will reach Nintendo and Camelot...
Grave news Nintendo just announced that they are going to remove the ability to add money to 3ds and Wii u in Europe I advise that if you want to get any virtual console games now would be the time to do it before they remove it for North America and other regions
The second game, The Lost Age, used to be my favorite game of all time until I played Chrono Trigger. In terms of gameplay, I still hold GS2 in the highest of regards and think no JRPG has surpassed it in combat, exploration and level design.
To me it was a movie - All the RPG ideas, but more cinematic. I love the animations and the motivations to get the big bad and those people who beat your ass early game. Sometimes I would grind with different spells just to see the animations.

I would like to add this, If i remember correctly there were supposed to be a series of 7 games for golden sun. It was stated somewhere either back of gamebox, in a gamepro magazine. I remember the disappointment when they announced they would not be continuing the series( before dark dawn i might add) because the second game was not as well received as the first so they backed out on the 7 game saga. i will find this print somewhere and post
This was my 1st JRPG. What a wonderful birthday gift and I think of it all the time, mainly because of how much of a noob I was at video games in general and how satisfying every step of progression felt.
So, a reason I really enjoy Golden Sun is how well fleshed out the world is. You found Crossbone Isle by mistake, but there are a few more things. For example, did you know that you can run into Felix at the Inn before you enter the Sanctum? If you go to Vale's Inn before you go to Kraden, you can find him waiting in the room Satuross and Menardi rented. There are a few others, but its been a while since I last played it. A similar thing happens in The Lost Age. If you go west from Madra before you enter the town, and head into the area that takes you to Kibombo you can find the camp of the warriors who raid the Madra right before you enter it. Not only do you find their camp, but you can chat to them, and they talk about the upcoming battle. They really managed to connect the world together with just small things. Also, another fun thing I like is that you can do the Mercury Lighthouse before you deal with the town of people who were cursed and turned into trees.
I gotta say, this was one of my favorite videos you've done Jirard. I just started playing this game for the first time, so it was timed perfectly. This was so informative, well thought out, and engaging. I really enjoyed the more subdued, laid back approach you took to this video. I'm definitely going to rewatch this once I finish the game!
You should really complete part 2. The intertwining makes this series truly exquisite for it's time, and honestly... you can't really say you've completed Golden Sun without finishing what is essentially disc 2. Did hit the Subcribed though, great vid.

I don’t even know why I picked this game up in the first place, but the poster that came in the box had some awesome art that made me excited to get home and play the game. I was blown away. A few years later, I gave the game to my little brother and he also loved it.

Jirard NEEDS to take on the Dullahan. He makes Deadbeard look like a little kitten
@@RexActive4 yup he does :)
I think Jirard kinda forgot that this is only the first half. He’s over leveled here, but he’s still not strong enough for the end of book 2.
In my heart, Golden Sun 4 is a reality. Someday.. Someday, right? A man can dream!
I mean we waited long enough for Kingdom Hearts III, so the wait for Golden Sun IV continues...
We also got Megaman Zero/ZX Legacy Collection. 2019 is a good year.
Pretty sure that one's dead, given how unimpressive Dark Dawn was... but we can always hope for a remaster or reboot!
I like calm jirard way better than screaming jirard, I'd like to see more of that
Golden Sun was great
The Lost Age was amazing
Dark Dawn was good but seemed to end before its story was finished
God I love Golden Sun so much. I replay it almost every year!
Me too!
Holy shit I never expected to see this. I loved this game! It was the first game I ever owned at age 7!
Finally some bigger youtubers are giving this classic some love. Thanks so much Jarard !
YES! 1 and 2 were amazing. I hope we see 4 one day...Dark Dawn left on a cliffhanger, man
True
For real? Geez. Did they not learn from doing that the first time around?
Ugh, I hate that ending so much. Especially now that it's been several years since it's release with no word on any kind of closure. It's almost easier forgetting Dark Dawn happened.
@@Silyon487 True. I still really like the game, but it can be forgettable at times. Worst part is, the Takahashi brothers (God bless them) called 1 and 2 "prequels" and that Dark Dawn was the story they were getting around to. And now, look where we are. Hopefully they can get crowdfunding some day and make more happen, kinda like how "Bloodstained" got made by the guy from the Castlevania series
I wish Camelot would remake Golden Sun & The Lost Age from the ground up. A full remake as one huge title the way it was intended to be
I love that someone besides me is talking about Golden Sun in 2019.
I still talk about this amazing series and I will even when I get 80 years old :D
The comments here give me hope, there is still alot of love for this gem!
Jirard, I'm so happy that you played and completed this game, it's one of my favorite games ever, I still remember way back when I recommended this game to you during that podcast.
For anyone that wants to play this game, I wanna share a few pro-tips:
1) Jenna will abandon your party early on, so you don't need to equip her, so before going to the Sol Sanctum, go to the entrance of Vale and buy the best equipment for Isaac and Garet, sell Jenna's equipment and even sell the Ticket that the shop owner will give you, this way you can afford everything for the boys.
9) Once you start The Lost Age, use the password, because you will unlock gear and benefits from the first game right around the start of the adventure, and among the things that you have to do include:
- Return to Vault when you beat the evil desert and talk to the mayor, he'll tell you that the bandits escaped, and they will show up early in the second game to fight you, and you will get the golden boots which increase your agility like a nutcase.
The 16Bit Hero thx for the tips!
I second this motion!
Thrided
Sorry but it's far from completed... He didn't initiate the Golden Sun event. Which is in game 2...
That is to true. I feel like we shouldn't let him know about the 3rd though... I loved it, but the cliff hanger...
The second was initially intended as the second half of the first game, so that makes sense
*the plot is probably the least important part of golden sun*
oof. play the sequel. Shit gets real.
Meridian Yeah, the first game suffered in a similar way to Mother.
The less said about the DS sequel the better though. Way too easy.
@@Maesterful dark Dawn was so depressing. the transition from sprites to 3d models was clearly too much for camelot's rpg team.
@@autobotstarscream765 No because it carries story elements over from the first two. It's still fun to play just not for the storyline.
wait till he has to deal with Dullahan... oof indeed.
I always knew golden sun was a good game but man jirard the way you talked about it makes me want to play it besides I just finished chrono trigger so yeah more jrpgs
It's worth, no doubt
Why hello! My favourite JRPG, that's a quick click right there.
Classic
Something i noticed that wasnt mentioned in the introduction; a big part of golden sun's appeal is that massive and epic soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba, who worked on Dark Souls, the Tales series, and Star Ocean, and is a progressive rock keyboard virtuoso in his own right.
Golden Sun and Sky’s of Arcadia have been franchises that I always wanted to be revived.
Man, hearing you say this is the perfect beginner rpg makes me so happy! Awesome video Dood!
It is IMO
I saw Golden sun and insta liked, now to pray he completes golden sun 2 🙏
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was my first RPG got really far on my first copy but then I lost it. I liked it so much I got another copy. Couldn't beat the final boss but adored the game.
I highly recommend playing the first 2. Dark dawn wasn't bad or anything but it was literally a step bellow the previous games in all respects and was basically a prologue to the true story that we never got.
Mia Williams it was my introduction to the series as well. I had to emulate the first two for a while since they were expensive as hell, but I eventually managed to get my hands on physical copies
Im just happy golden sun is getting more attention. This year is the year of remakes/remasters, if were lucky golden sun could hop unto the fray.
I'm so happy that you covered Golden Sun! I'm hoping they either get a remake of the original two games, or a new game in general.
Hearing that Camelot was planning one big game on the N64 just had me geeking out at the idea lol
I hadn't heard that possibility before
#IsaacForSmash #IsaacforSmashBros #IsaacSmash #IsaacSmashBros #AssistAlliance
There's always hope, either for Golden Sun 4, or Isaac eventually being playable in Super Smash Bros. Hopefully our words will reach Nintendo and Camelot...
Rubberman202 bro I’m sorry, by already having Isaac from Mother 3 it’s not as likely
Absolutely loved golden sun. Finding all the djinns was so addicting.
They were so cute! And the summons were so friggin extra.
Thank goodness for the Wii U virtual console! I got the available Fire Emblem, Golden Sun and Advance Wars games 👍🏻
Grave news Nintendo just announced that they are going to remove the ability to add money to 3ds and Wii u in Europe I advise that if you want to get any virtual console games now would be the time to do it before they remove it for North America and other regions
19:00 Haha! It isn't a lake. The Karagol or Thanatos Sea is based on the Mediterranean Sea!
Ah golden sun how I love you. Too bad we are getting a ending after the cliffhanger of the 3rd game.
because we are getting that ending... right camelot? right?!
The second game, The Lost Age, used to be my favorite game of all time until I played Chrono Trigger. In terms of gameplay, I still hold GS2 in the highest of regards and think no JRPG has surpassed it in combat, exploration and level design.
I relate hard to this comment, just finished chrono trigger for the first time
To me it was a movie - All the RPG ideas, but more cinematic. I love the animations and the motivations to get the big bad and those people who beat your ass early game.
Sometimes I would grind with different spells just to see the animations.
I literally just beat this game a couple days ago and started the Lost Age yesterday. Epic.
goodluck airs rock
@@TickleMeTner Air's Rock isn't THAT hard. Once you went through it first, the next playthroughs make it a joke. It's a question of memory.
@@deletedaccount1990
Ah yes for us old players but if your new you’ll get sick to it
@@TickleMeTner Exactly. Let's see... the first time I played Air's Rock... It was when I was around seventeen... The time the second game had come out back in 2003. That takes me back.
@@deletedaccount1990
I didn’t play the first golden sun and I got the lost age given by my cousin from Germany
It’s in German
And I had to figure it out where to go and what to do
I reach airs rock and I suffered from there and I stopped playing this game
2 years ago I decided to play the entire game on an emulator
And boi when I reach aura rock once again on the lost age it took me 3-5 hrs and it was so satisfying when I finally got the Reveal rock
This video is old and still is so good this series need to come back. Nintendo need to give it to Team Asano and make it hd2d
omg omg omg! finally. This game been my one true love fore 17 years
Ah a woman of culture
This was the first RPG I ever played and beat. Golden Sun was a very special game for me, and I'm happy to see it here, and that you loved it too Jirard.
Again though. Thank you for this. From the bottom of my heart.
This was the first RPG I ever actually completed. It's still a favorite of mine to this day, and got me hooked on RPG's in general. I know it takes a long time to get through games like this but I really hope to see the sequel covered at some point here.
I’ve gotten stuck on the second boss phase at venus lighthouse on two playthroughs about 10 years apart. now another 5 or so years later it might be time for another try. I think your completionist approach for the best gear and all the djinns is what made the game so easy for you
I love this game!!! ;o; !!! I felt like nobody ever talks about it, too, so I'm happy to see this!
Yes you finally did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best turnbased rpg ive ever played i lv this game. THANKS
I've never been so happy to see golden sun in 2019
I would like to add this, If i remember correctly there were supposed to be a series of 7 games for golden sun. It was stated somewhere either back of gamebox, in a gamepro magazine. I remember the disappointment when they announced they would not be continuing the series( before dark dawn i might add) because the second game was not as well received as the first so they backed out on the 7 game saga. i will find this print somewhere and post
You mean the dark dawn
This was my 1st JRPG. What a wonderful birthday gift and I think of it all the time, mainly because of how much of a noob I was at video games in general and how satisfying every step of progression felt.
I loved this game so much when I was a child. The nostalgia watching this made me smile.
You know there is another cult following JRPG that lets you load your save file into it's sequel. It's called Suikoden!
Yes now if does 1st Suikoden the he has to 2 Suikoden II
Now if we could just get Isaac in Smash or atleast get another Golden Sun game.
But Isaac is in Smash
@@gasboy122 let me rephrase that "if we could only make Isaac playable in Smash".
I can’t believe I missed this episode. This game is my favorite of all time. Thanks for shining some light on this game.
Didn't know so many people appreciate this gem. Hello to everyone!
Naturally only one member of the party wanders around on the map.
-Laughs in Breath of Fire
You should really complete part 2. The intertwining makes this series truly exquisite for it's time, and honestly... you can't really say you've completed Golden Sun without finishing what is essentially disc 2. Did hit the Subcribed though, great vid.
Gerard,
This game is my childhood. Even if it isn’t the most polished game in the world, the very fact that you went out of your way to complete this means the planet to me.
Thank you so, so much!
"It's a DOG KITTY!"
Oh wait no, that's just his beard. False alarm people!
(Weirdest line from the third game)
I wish nintendo would give us a new game or isaac in smash :/ golden sun 1 and 2 are my favourite games
When I hear Golden Sun's music, it always brings me back to Baten Kaitos on the GameCube...
Makes sense since it's the same composer.
@@MrSentinel07 Yes exactly!
I have fond memories of going into the Electronic Boutique at Bayside in Miami with my mom during 6th grade, and picking this game up. I don’t even know why I picked this game up in the first place, but the poster that came in the box had some awesome art that made me excited to get home and play the game. I was blown away. A few years later, I gave the game to my little brother and he also loved it.
One of my favourite series of all time. Great story, gameplay and music. I love how you can straight up say no to the journey at the beginning and it just ends.
Oh man I've been waiting on this one! Justice for Isaac!
"No challenging end game."
Meanwhile in Lost Ages Anemos Sanctum...
what about the star magician? :P
Are you feeling alright? Your voice is scratchy and weak.
Otherwise great video!
Thank you for bringing my favourite game series to a wider audience. Golden Sun needs all the love!
Golden Sun was my first legitimate JRPG. And it impacted my life in a big way. It’s my favorite game of all time. It’s the game that cemented my online name. It’s the game that made me love big worlds and colorful characters and is one of the things in my life that put me on the path to becoming a writer. I owe so much to this game.
GOLDEN SUN!
What’s the phrase....? “Lightening in a bottle” of an RPG. An absolute Gem!
if you want end game challenges play the sequel, you know you want to!
Or he could do a single character challenge... Like the Isaac or Ivan challenge...
Star Magician ohhh the trauma it was real wasn't it
I... personally prefer the sequel, but the original game is still *really good*.
Technically they are one game split into two parts due to the memory limitations of the GBA cartridges
Hey everyone, there's a mod hack called "Chaos Mode" for Golden Sun on the VBA emulator. I'm playing it currently, and while it makes the game incredibly difficult, it's that much more satisfying and rewarding to play and complete. I recommend it to any hardcore fans out there.
Or for a fun challenge, no djinn no fighting random encounters (which means run from them). It is possible, but you will hate life.
Golden Sun was one of my favorite games growing up. It really kept my spirits high in my depression, and I even bonded with my now dead dad over it. Thank you for this video :)
