Steeping the grains the way you did if fine but you will bet better usage from your grains if you spread the bag over the pot and add the grains and stir them in to get full saturation of the grains before tying up the bag.
I like the brewing videos the most. I've only brewed about 4 batches at this point, and every time I watch your videos, I pick up some new tricks. Cheers from Durango, Colorado.
After watching this I decided to go beyond extract brewing and start mashing grains. I've done several all grain and partial grain brews and just thought I'd come back and say thanks.
I find controlling the temperature on an electric stove is very difficult. It's all I have to work with but this helped. I heated up my first batch and the temp got way over 160 and probably got too hot. Will that ruin the beer (too much heat during mash)?
I'm making my first beer I'm using rice oats and flour the mash water is super thick like gravy I wonder if I should try and filter it or just ferment as is Best part I saved the rice cane sugar oat flour mix after draining it's Delicious like a rice porridge !
@@shaunozzyoz425 this is going to depend mostly on how big you boil kettle (pot) is and the strength of your heat source. Lately we have been trying an induction cook top for brewing and if we add too much wort, it won't boil because its just not strong enough. If this is your first batch expect to learn how your equipment work/performs and improve next time. Mash water ratio is usually 1.2-1.5 quarts/lb of grains, but can be adjusted if it won't all fit in your put. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Guys, good job. I have one question: what about the first 2 or 3 days of fermentation? Isn't it too turbulent to use the airlock immediately, rather than connecting with a tube plunged in water?
Since the fermenter was pretty big and it had plenty of head room it was not an issue. If you fill your fermenter up to the neck you will more than likely see an issue and need a blow off tube.
Two Hearted is one of our favorites, but I dont know of any specific 1 gal BIAB kits for it. You could take any 5 gal all grain kit and reduce all the ingredients down to 1 gal and should be just fine. Also take into account the Alpha Acid of the hops you purchase vs whats in the recipe. Here is a link to a good AG recipe: boykingbrewhaus.com/2014/02/07/brew-day-bells-two-hearted-clone-biab/ Let us know if you have any other questions, Cheers!
+Moski Homebrew that tannins comment from squeezing is a busted myth. Tannins tend to get into the wort from too hot strike water, not from pressing. Pressing can get you plenty of additional gravity points for the same grains, so you save money there.
Tannin extraction has nothing to do with water temperature. Tannins are released when water PH goes above 6.0. The higher your PH is above 6.0 the higher the risk of tannin release is. Squeezing the bag is fine.
I would have put the bag in the hot water empty, then dumped the grain in the bag and stirred, then tied the bag off, or just let the lid hold the bag in place.
Two buddies having a good time drinking beer while making beer, cant get much better than that
love that brooklyn brew shop

Thanks for the comment! We are working on more brew day videos so keep an eye out! Cheers!

burbsteader 00 We appreciate the feedback! If you ever have questions DM us on Instagram! (Most active on there) We love helping!! Cheers!
How big of a muslin bag do you need for 1 gallon batches?
Bob and Doug McKenzie brew beer. Beauty Eh. Seriously though great video!.
That kit is from Brooklyn Brew Shop, an online brew shop that specialize in small batch gallon brewing kits

It won't ruin the beer, and I'm sure will come out fine. Maybe a bit on the sweeter side but will still make beer. 👍

Hard to say without the whole grain bill. Sounds like too much flour and rice oats though.
Same kit im gonna do hope turns out well
Not bad, it's a good little kit for learning the process! Cheers and welcome to the addiction! 😂
@@MoskiHomebrew any chance of telling me the water ratios ie how much to start with plus how much is lost after boiling thank you.

Thanks for the overview.
Can you guys recommend a good 1 gallon BIAB kit? Preferably a Bell's two heart clone, or an Abbey ale?

how many lbs of grain was that?
Did you guys press your grains in the bag? If not, you can also save some water there plus the pressed-out wort has a pretty high sugar content.
Thanks for the comment, To our knowledge pressing the wort out of the grains extracts tannins, and is usually not recommended. Cheers!

That makes sense as well to me, thanks!
I didn't know Bed Bath & Beyond sold kits. I gotta get on that!
Barley and the Hops TV yea Im not sure why, but they do... lol

how many pounds of grain was that yall?
Don't recall exactly what the recipe called for. It was all pre packaged so it made it hard to mess up. I would guess about 2-3 lbs though.
I would have put the bag in the hot water empty, then dumped the grain in the bag and stirred, then tied the bag off, or just let the lid hold the bag in place.
That would have worked also, we only had a muslin bag though. We have a bag that is meant for this for our larger batches. Cheers!
Good video. Awful music
Muslim or muslin bag?🍻
It's muslin 😔🍻
😂
