I remember the first time I watched this video, I was only 13... When Chris says: "Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Jonathan Buckland, he's 28 years old..." it looked so far away to me... Today I am 28 and this song still sounds as amazing as it sounded when I was 13. Thank you Chris, thank you Johnny, thank you Guy, thank you Will
I just heard this on pandora and remembered this version from middleschool... I love him directing the crowd at the end with the oh oh ooooohhhhh. goosebumps. literally searched youtube and found it halfway down ahhhhh yes
Chris has the voice of an angel and the heart of a stag. I love what he said about Jonny, and how he added "except maybe Slash". Priceless. Did you hear how he sang "Oh, and I rush to the start" at 2:55? Absolutely gorgeous. It gave me chills.
Coldplay will always remain one of my favorite bands, they are timeless. And this song... I can listen to it over and over and over and still feel all these incredible things inside; it touches me beyond words. Does anyone else feel this too ? I just wish I could meet them and tell them how grateful I am for their wonderful music. I just uploaded a cover of The Scientist, and I really hope I did it justice... it would mean so much if other fellow Coldplay lovers gave it a listen. Thank you and keep listening to this beautiful song.
YES!! I thought it was just me who thought that, but it's the only reason i listen to this version. I wish they released this version with that variation. I find it makes such a difference to the song. Im learning it on piano now, and when i sing I will use that variation!
Used to listen to this all the time and just now had to scour through the live versions of this song to find this "start variation"!! It doesn't leave you, does it?
It really is amazing, isn't it? I watch this video more than I watch the music video because the whole atmosphere is just spectacular. Went to see them in December and I was almost shaking when they played this song. Loove Coldplay.
If you have come back because someone liked your comment and it was made over 5 years ago that was me. I hope you enjoy the song once again because i brought you back 😊💚

I met this video for the first time when I was early 20s in 2014. At that time, this video only had 0.72 million views, even though this uploaded in 2005. Now this hits around 19 millions in 2023. I really love this version because of the vibration of “start” in 2:55. This is the Coldplay when they ruled the world, no need to try to any attention to get their views on concert or charts on streaming. They made song, audience followed their way. That’s so cool.
everybody's talking about how beautifully this song was done live (can't argue with that, it is indeed majestic), but no one notice that the ending was the exact reversed outro of the song @5:05 onwards
Ive been watching this video all the time since Last June, I’ve been in and out of rehab since October, through all of these horrible and amazing time in my life , this song and this particular video has stayed constant. Thank you Chris Martin
Just saw them this past Saturday in Seattle for their HFOD Tour and it was life changing. I've waited 16 years to see them live and when they played the scientist live I felt as though time stopped and I had a full circle moment reliving the years of my youth. Damn.. until next time.
I absolutely love Coldplay, and this song is probably one of their greatest songs! Everything just stops when this song is played. Such a powerful song. This is probably their best version of this song. Always gives me goosebumps. What a song!
To this day I can never understand why this band gets so much slack. Their music is simple yet extremely unique. I almost 69 years old but I've been following this band from their inception 💗💗

I love this song. Everything about it is so amazing, the performance, the crowd singing, must have been an amazing experience to have been there. I really wish I could "go back to the start" with a special someone I love sooo much. If only things could have been different compared to now. I miss her so much. "Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me..."
Coldplay were incredible at Glastonbury on Saturday, but this 2005 version is still my favourite ever performance of this song. Gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes every time. Just genius.

The part when he gets the crowd to sing with him gives me the shivers. One of the best song writers of our time.

Each coldplay live version feels like a new song in itself. No matter how many times I might have listened this song.
Anyone else feel overcome with supreme joy and almost cry when you listen to COldplay?
This is, in my opinion, the best Scientist on the Tubes.
