    yehhhh. found exactly what ive been searching for. You have answered all our questions in just one video. Very clearly too. We have just re poted and all gone down hill from there. i split the plant , as ive done with many other plants. i couldnt find the exact plant to have guidance . The plant was thriving then all of a sudden started to go yellow and leaves and stems looking soggy. Yes a sign of over watering. Hadnt changed routine so hense the repotting.. Not sure what to do about the limp yellow leaves. Do i cut them off or leave to come away naturaly. Bothe the plants have two very healthy leaves left. So im treating that in the way you have discribed. Fingers crossed i can get these plants back to their beautiful original state to return to my son.

    Omg, this is perfect timing! I have not had a problem with the "harder plants" until I got this one. I am not sure what I am doing wrong with her, but I purchased a moisture meter, I added a humidity tray, daily misting, its in good light, and am hoping it all helps. BUT I only have one leaf left! So I am worried. Thanks for the video, you always have the best info!

      I like to mist my plants, but I've been cutting back because it can help fungus to form, and I think this particular Alocasia is prone to that.

    Quick, Precise, and Informative. I live in NBG and admire Your pots. Where do You buy them? I don’t have a Polly because I found them to be too Temperamental, but I do have 3 Red Secrets, 3 Black Velvets, 2 Dragon Scales, and 3 Silver Dragon Alocasians, and I believe in the beginning I committed the Cardinal Sin of Overwatering. All the videos speak of letting the water run out, BLA BLA BLA and I believed Them. But now I only do that in Summer, whereby the Plant is more active and the extra humidity from the soil drying out is beneficial to the Plant. I water from underneath and found it to be more reliable since the roots are on the bottom so why water from the top? And I have incorporated the finger in the soil Technique as well as using a Wetness Gauge. Now My Plants don’t need Swimming lessons. I mist my Plants, now in Fall 2x a day to increase the humidity. I am experimenting with these Plants since 2 years now, because as with Everything, there are Fanatics, Normal Folks, and the Combination of both like Me, Skeptics. All My Plants thrive from Sunlight and the light from My 2700K livingroom lamp, so as of yet I don’t see the Need for a Grow Light, because they are Growing!! I also believe that Most of These Folks with HUMONGOUS leaves and Plants don’t tell the Truth about how old Their Plants are, or that it came from a Mature cutting, and this makes Many Owners Insecure and doubt if They’re doing something wrong. I find this to be harmful. If the Plant hasn’t died in the last 6 months, is pushing out leaves, and occasionally a leaf dies but a new one comes, things are going WONDERFULLY. I Personally don’t want or need a Plant that takes up too much space, because then I have less room to live and I can’t buy anymore Plants. Many Folks may show US the Beautiful Alocasia but don’t show the Others that are half dead or with browning leaves and sitting neglected in the corner. So don’t believe the HYPE. Folks should inform Themselves, listen to Others experiences, and in the end, Make Their Own decisions, because everyone doesn’t have the same living conditions. Thanks for the Positive Energy, and that’s another issue that’s NEVER been expressed or mentioned in a video. The Importance of being Positive or in a good Space and how it affects Your Plants. I notice that when I’m dealing with Issues regardless of the seriousness, My Plants also do bad. But when the Vibes are Positive and things are going Well, they start growing and are also Happy? Is this just My conception or has Anyone else experienced this? Let Me know, because Mostly Everyone only speaks of the Joy and Wonder of Plants but I believe that since They are a living Creature that Vibes affect Them too. The Prayer Plant is a Prime example with the ability to move its leaves when all its Needs are met. Therefore I believe that what makes You Happy, within reason, will also pass on the Positive Energy to the Plants. Thanks for the video and Be safe ✌🏿

    My Alocasia Low Rider in a 4" pot with four leaves and a new leaf turned yellow overnight. Strangest thing. The newest leaf remained green, but the four other leaves all turned yellow. Just this morning decided to chop off two of the four leaves, the oldest two. Now the plant has three leaves, 2 yellow and 1 green. The only thing I can conclude is watering day for it occurred on same day as Hot Stones massage session so the high Humidity (85%) was too much for it with wet soil. The Low Rider plant in 12" pot suffered no color change. The baby plant in 2" pot experienced on leaf turning yellow out of the 5 leaves. Now I know overwatering can occur with combo of regular watering coupled with higher than normal humidity. Normal humidity at Serenity Garden is 55%.

    Had mine for over with years from ikea. I check the soil and it's dry af at the top but I think water must be collecting on the bottom then. hard to check when it's not in a plastic pot

    Q’s I have the imperial red alocassia (I’m a newbie in the 🌴☘️🪴 world) should I cut her stem, or let it entirely fall by it self ?
    * I noticed the 2 yellowing ones that are falling from atop, are not connected to the new ones growing. 😢🤔😮‍💨

    I hope it’s a case of shedding because I it’s leaves are yellowing on the outer side of the plant. does misting the leaves helps with the humidity?

    I have the same problem but the new leaf is bigger and greener then the previous ones. Lol I had about 3 leaves before the new one and yeah theres one left that is dying a little slower and have different symptoms of dying off. The other 2 turned yellow in one day (one at a time), while this one is turning yellowing not fully more so in spots of yellow no actually main area like the top of the leaf or edges. But random brown/thinned spots with yellow rings around it, past those issue the leaf it self seem too have a good green tone too it....lol I'm looking too hold on to it incase it makes ah turn around lol

    Hi Lucia, thanks for this video! I bought a very similar sized plant and had her for about a week, checked the soil and noticed her soil was extremely dry. So I watered and let it drain, but the next day two leaves started yellowing. It’s three days later now and the soil is completely dry again, so I’m not sure what’s going on? She is near my window and not in overly dry air, so I assume it’s watering but don’t know why when the soil was so dry before and even a few days after watering :(

    Do you know about these potentially going into a dormant period where they lose all of their leaves for a period of time? Someone mentioned this to me once but I haven't figured it out. I had this alocasia polly, and she suddenly turned all yellow almost overnight. I ruled out pests, light, water, basically all other concerns. I thought she was dead so I threw her out, but now I wonder if this was that dormancy thing?

    • @tonygray9174
      @tonygray9174 3 роки тому

      Yes they can definitely go into dormancy. If they do I take off all of the leaves and soil and put the bulbs in a paper bag and store in a closet until early Spring. Many people cuts the roots off.

    I’m so confused,, big seller I got plants from said they like water dry out between watering just like succulent

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  2 роки тому +2

      Hi! I would strongly go against that big seller haha. This alocasia likes the soil to be moist. However, always make sure to check that it is actually drying out before you water. Don’t water when it is still very moist (you can risk overwatering it). With mine, I wait till I feel it is drying out (but not completely dry) to water it.
      Another tip related to humidity I’ve heard but starting to try on mine. If you live in a place with dry air, you can place your alocasia inside a closed terrarium and spray the glass inside with water to maintain humidity around her. I think I will make a video about this. I’m trying this with mine to see how she responds, so I’ll let you guys know how it goes so you can try it after (if it works out for me first)

      I've read several different articles that say they don't like to dry out. It's possible the advice they gave you isn't correct.

    People should understand that watering a plant is like us drinking water. We drink water only when we are thirsty. 🤔🙂 Hyperhidration is potentially fatal in humans I imagine it would be for any mammal and living plants. People use your common sense. 🙂

    I'm worried that when I'm checking my plants' soil with my finger that I might spread pests from pot to pot that way, especially when checking multiple plant groups at once (I got the succulent crew, the west facing window group, the bathroomers, the north facing window guys, the shelf plants and the stairs plants; I rarely switch them around so if something pops up in one group its not as likely that it spreads to all of my plants)

      I always either wash my hands or use hand sanitizer in between checking my plants
