    Other than Fireball XL5, this programme UFO was my next favourite of all Gerry Andersons amazing programmes he and his partners made. The sound of that UFO still make my spine tingle, I'm 65yrs now and still love to watch all his creations - just fabulous memories, thank you Gerry 😊

    The only time in the whole series that a UFO turned around and went back home. How lucky for the tracking team. British film and television productions have always excelled at using sound effects and instrumental soundtracks to enhance the visuals occurring on screen. The timing and nature of evocative "incidental music" is critical for eliciting an emotional stake in the story. So too is silence. Within just this segment, there are many examples of how this is done effectively.

    So many wonders and emotions! This TV series accompanied my childhood, even though it was broadcast incomplete in Italy at the time. It was only in the 1990s that I was able to see it again in colour and in its entirety. In some respects it looks a bit dated, but certain technologies are still beyond our reach.

      The UFO's were travelling so much faster than the Interceptors, it was somewhat like a WW1 biplane trying to intercept a fighter going supersonic. But the Interceptors would use 3x nuclear missiles to try triangulate on at least one of the UFOs, if there were three of them. The nuclear explosions would make an electromagnetic pulse and put out very fast moving radioactive shrapnel debris - because there is virtually no shockwave in a vacuum.

    It's amusing how they thought ANY of this stuff could be accomplished by 1980. Here we are 42 years after and STILL not possible. MOST sci-fi shows underestimate the time needed for technology to be developed. Did they ever explain why the moon women all had purple hair?

    Gabrielle Drake we shared many of my young teen fantasies. She played in some risque films in the 70's and was not adverse to showing that sexy body off, minge and all. I always thought that purple wig suited her. She auditioned for the part of Jo Grant in Doctor Who but lost out to Katy Manning.

    • @FandersonUfo
      @FandersonUfo  7 років тому

      patimuse I did a few searches for your question hoping to find some sort of answer for you. Wish I could have found something. I've been around a long time and other than this show I've never heard anyone else use 'U-Foe'. You may be correct that it was a British thing. If I had to bet though I would put my money on the idea that it was something the script writer dreamed up to make it seem that these folks dealt with UFOs on a daily basis and would use the shorter pronunciation 'U-Foe' in their conversations as well as long form 'U-F-O'.

    • @patimuse
      @patimuse 7 років тому +2

      I figured that it was a combination of the British accent and the rapid urgency during the alert sequence that cause the sounds to run into each other; on the slower moments, I can hear each letter. In any case they're appropriately referring to enemy "foes" and the writers may have intentionally been playing with us - lol

      Yes, to answer the question. Up to the Seventieth British accents and British locations had been much more in fashion as American sites in a lot of SF novells and movies. Guess it had been thought this kind of filming appealed more to an international audience. Aso, and you are absolutly right up to the Seventieth the British movie and TV makers had been much more active in this field. Also the expressions; for example the British word IMP or IMPOSSIBLE for ALIEN started to disappear after some years.[ For example QUATERMASS AND THE PIT, 1958/59 also seen in my youth - also still on UA-cam} UFO and SPACE 1999 were good examples for it, also shows for a younger audience as the minni series THE TRIPDODS ( in German seen under the translated title DIE DREIBEINIGEN HERRSCHER )

      Several reboots, continuations, and sequels have been attempted over the years, with varying degrees of development before being dropped. I still hope someone is able to push something through eventually.
      FYI Space 1999 was developed using a lot of was prepped for Season 2 of U.F.O. after it was cancelled.

    I am attempting to find out any information on the UFO TV series mobile units. Shadow 1 2 and 3, I want to know what's inside. Or what was supposed to be the function of this vehicle?

    • @FandersonUfo
      @FandersonUfo  6 років тому

      If you mean the armored personnel carriers I don't think they were ever anything besides models and immobile interior sets. I don't recall a live actor shown ingressing or egressing one on film. There was a pretty comprehensive book of SHADO tech a while back that was full of schematics and specifications but I think it's very expensive if you can find it for private sale on line now. Their general purpose seem to all terrain transport for SHADO operatives to investigate UFO landing areas on earth. They tend to deploy in groups of 3 and it is possible that on occasion 4 vehicles will work together with one being used as a command vehicle. The best source for their interior layout would be the existing filmed scenes for the SHADO mobile vehicles in action. They appear quite a bit in this video - ua-cam.com/video/bOyLrfWbvzo/v-deo.html
