Where did you find the missile for the SHADO 2 Mobile. I have the vehicle (In much better condition than yours but still in need of new paint) and of course lost the missile decades ago.
Great video - brought back a lot of memories. As a 9 year old, I used to write to the Binns Road, Liverpool, Meccano factory for replacement missiles. They always sent me three, free of charge. The factory, I later discovered, was only about 8 miles from where I lived, in Aintree.

Fantastic job on this. Looks amazing. I loved my Shado Mobile as a kid. I do a similar thing with repainting action figures, I fancy a go at one of these, not to restore it as original but to try and make it look as realistic as possible. By the way, I'm stealing your idea with the plastic tray to stop dust sticking as the paint dries. Good job fella.

I always disliked the green colour as the one on the TV show seemed to be grey, so I painted mine silver with some airfix paint. Had an Interceptor too. What memories! 💗
I have spent the last 5 years replacing all the dinky / Corgi toys that I had as a child. I have 3 of the SHADO Mobile's in different versions. After watching this Vid, I am seriously thinking about doing resto jobs on others. I did a resto job on an original 1966 Batmobile but it didn't turn out as good as I had liked. I think a bit more time is needed.................

Ah, memories! The first thing I did with mine all those years ago was to get a tin of silver grey car spray and give it a 'proper' paint job with the white lines and letraset numbers and text! If I remember rightly, the tracks ended up repaired with a couple of paper staples to hold them together (a la old Airfix tank model instructions!) And my Shado Moonbase Interceptor also got a repaint - did Dinky have a surplus of green paint to shift before its expiry date or something?

Great to see this! I still have my childhood SHADO 2, complete with missile. Is there any chance you could do another SHADO Mobile, but in studio accurate colours, please? Dinky were always changing the colour of their models from the original. The SHADO Mobile prop was a metallic bluish-green in reality. It also had some paint detail not on the Dinky model.
Thats really good..ive found mine from the 70s at my recently deceased Mums. Its green and still has original white missile. Cant decide whether to get the green shado 2 decals and repaint the body or paint it in line with the tv blue grey colour. Tracks and interior etc are fine.
I had the same version, I think my missiles were white with red rubber tips. I remember I must have been 10, putting in two crew from an Airfix 1/72nd scale F-111. I loved the colour green so much I bought a Jensen Interceptor in almost identical colour years later.
Very good....I've got most of the Gerry Anderson models for making over as well. Like you I've only done the 105 Maximum Security Vehicle and the Shado 2 so far so I'm very interested in seeing what you do with others that you restore. I did the Shado 2 in olive drab which I think is a little nearer to the original than Steve Flowers colour matched paint but that is maybe just me. I also used a Matt clear coat rather than gloss but again that is just personal choice. Excellent make over....very detailed. Congrats on having one with a decent spring mechanism in the rotating top...mine is very weak and doesn't flip very well. I might want to do it again and try and replace the spring if I can find a way to do it. 👍
hi Derrick, thanks for the comments and I think I might agree with you on the colour. The original tend to appear a little darker, but maybe the passage of time has a part to play. I'm going to do the Spectrum 104 next and currently collecting parts and spares, paint wise I'm trying to get model supplies spray paint , unless I can find a halfords metallic that is close.
@@adamtinweb .Hi Adam..check out a youtuber called John Ferguson...he made over a Shado 2 using Steve Flowers colour matched paint for the Spectrum 104...it is a great colour but when he compares it to the original 104 you'll see that it is darker than the original paint. Still an awesome colour though. Look forward to seeing your next video.
I had this one. It really was special to me at the time. Amazing just seeing it again. I don't need to own them, just looking is fine for me. I'm not the expert but I think it was a darker green the one I had. Could that be right?
Great job but the colour you used for the base was more a beige than the duck egg blue used originally. Not sure why as you colour matched the top so exactly.
Congrats on the restoration! There is a detail which amazes me: you paint the Mobile base with Tamiya acrylic paint but then finish it Humbrol enamel clear coat....didn´t get problems mixing those 2 different paint types?
I noticed you lacquered over the stickers? Do you test the stickers first to see if the lacquer causes any rippling or anything? Great tutorials by the way!!
Yes , I had tried earlier with a piece of these as they were paper based to make sure the ink didn’t run. With the water slide ones it’s less of a problem. Thanks too for the compliment

It's one of those things that Dinky probably though the grey too drab and wanted to make it more like a tank. Worse was the colour of the interceptor being metallic green instead of white! dinkytvspace.com/dinky-353-shado-2/
Why was James Bond's DB5 gold and not silver? ...its a Dinky thing! LOL Seems, Dinky didn't like anything that was anywhere near the bare metal colour (gray, silver, etc)...and in those cases they opted for a different paint colour. (Hence the DB5 change from silver(metal) to gold)

there where a few versions of this model. Smooth roof (flip part) in green or in black and this version with 4 "panels" in black or in green.
If it was me I wouldn't have restored it to the horrible og colour scheme. Seriously all those Gerry Anderson toys had dreadful colouring.

The bases on the early releases were painted Duck Egg Green.

It got a little rushed towards the end, a little more care and time and a smaller brush would have got a straighter edge.

These are nice models. I have 3, one mint boxed, and two in good condition, two still have the rocket. A nice restoration.
