0:36 Hm... My favorite genre of anime? That's a tough one. I guess it would be isekai or general fantasy stuff. It's just fun. Especially the stuff like Eminence in Shadow, where the MC is ludicrously OP and just goofing off the whole time. 14:03 It's fun when you listen to the instrumental version of a song and you can just about hear the vocals. 19:20 I mean, 5 or so days is about where I'd draw the line and decide that I've given the person enough time to work through it on their own and it's time for me to step in and get involved. So yeah, not "it's been five days, stop being depressed" but "it's been five days, whatever you're doing isn't working, time to try something else". 19:41 I don't know if I'd call it my "rebellious phase" but there were a few points where I would put on my roller blades and just go and not contact anyone again until like 8 or 9 pm when I'd call home to get picked up. Also, I'm not sure it's actually been five days since he left. But definitely more than one. 21:17 I love the looks Kensuke keeps giving Toji as he tries to act all serious and mature in front of Misato. 22:54 I overshare because my brain is convinced that if I just explain myself, people will understand me better and be able to see past my various autism-related issues. 28:14 Earlier today, but that's because there was a rock stuck in the treads... But there was a time when I was in high school where my mom disappeared for like four days and I didn't notice she was gone until after the fact when she called over me and my younger brother to tell us what had happened to her. 29:50 I used to do that all the time, so it's something I rather quickly stopped caring about. But I grew up at the end of the line, so when taking the train, that always tended to mean home for me rather than something somehow unsettling. And when it was so late that I was basically the only one in the train car, I was always too busy looking forward to getting home to worry about how creepy it might be to other people. There there was one time where I decided I didn't want to go to work that day and so spent the day going to every station in the local train network. 36:54 The train car does have some important mental symbolism for Shinji. 38:06 I mean, I'm sure some do. But I never got caught, so clearly not all of them. Or at least the theaters I've gone to had some rather lax security. 40:46 I've always interpreted it as "what percentage of the work done to maintain the relationship is done by what participant?" Which I think is a valid question to ask. 42:36 For a little bit there, when he noticed what the couple were up to, Shinji went from merely existing in the space, to being actively present in it. 44:56 I think it would depend on the kind of content they make. I might even be willing to help out with some of it. I've been the guy behind the camera a few times, so yeah. 47:46 I love the scenery in this sequence. 48:23 Really, it's Nerv Security's job. And, likely, they already have been looking for him. There really isn't anything Misato here can do that they can't do more effectively. 1:06:46 Conveniently, that question is answered in just a couple episodes. 1:08:25 Yeah. Unfortunately, one of the big themes of the series is how dysfunctional people are. Misato, for all that she is in many ways the closest thing Shinji has had to a parent for most of his life, she is also someone who has lived through so much trauma and doesn't know how to connect with people. 1:14:01 I never did. My parents were never the sort to pressure me like that. They knew that I was not planning to ever have any kids and they accepted that. 1:17:05 This scene is great. But I like the version in the manga better. Shinji raises his fist, gets a serious look on his face, and then drops it with a shrug, saying he'd rather have Toji owe him before heading up to the train platform. One of the various examples of the manga version of Shinji being a bit more easy going than the anime version of him. 1:20:18 I mean, sure, but that doesn't make it any less terrifying. And that's not a fear I am good at dealing with. 1:25:25 They manage to hide it for just long enough that you really believe he got on the train. It's great.
"If you want him to take action ensure an environment for it" But that's it, they NEED him to take action at the same time of not having the LUXURY to give him the environment. Essentially is the old timey belief that life is shit and unfair and it's YOUR responsibility to overcome it. Otherwise, everyone dies and it's on him because no one else can.
If you're interested in mecha series, Aquarion (and Aquarion Evol) has interesting talks about biology and sociology despite sensual romance being the main theme.
Jokes on you Ed; I am a combo of Shinji and Subaru... quite awkward; and in a situation where I cannot get the support I feel is required (basically zero income) and stuck at the cross roads of requiring money and having no time to work at things through my own pace. ALWAYS AT OTHERS PACE. Stupid Sister trys to hard to help me... ie never lets up the pressure on me. Worse she cannot comprehend how she is causing issue in her approach. I have explained it as simply as I could and she just gets the wrong idea.
Paused at 41:06. Maybe your missing the point... I understand that chart as reading different than you are seeing it. 50/50 is not saying each person gives 50% its saying each person is giving 100% but the net effect is 50% of the story. both people cannot be 100% of the story since they are not dictating each others existence. 50/50 is just saying each half puts in equal effort. Nothing more and nothing less. Otherwise one side is doing more than the other and that can lead to one side or the other feeling they are doing more or less than the other. Am I the odd one for reading the 50/50 that way?
Fave Genre... well its a tie and depends more on the execution. Fantasy/Sci-fi. What both provide is a look at a place or a situation removed from my own. To over simplify. Fantasy... Worlds of magic are worlds of endless hope and dreams. What every fantasy makes plain even if its worded funny is that magic is imagination; it is feelings; it relates to ones soul in the same fashion psychic powers relate to thoughts and understanding. Every Author forms their box and dictates what falls on each side of the divide. You the viewer therefore not only learn the story the but also the author each and every time. Socioculturally all cultures of the past are the stories they tell; relics can be lost but stories always go forward even if they change some; in otherwords the Author is immortalized by the story and in that way exposed by the story. If your talking a tech or documentary like book one that is not fiction. Then there is no story so the Author remains hidden behind the page and any personal bits from them must be taken by an act of faith to actually be true to them. Fantasy and Sci-Fi always say more about the Author than it does the reader. This being this complex drags me out of my misery or my hard day or situation and into the Authors and the stories. Its layered enough to facinate my mind and redirect it from reality at least a small amount. Sci-fi... Not much more to add outside of Sci-fi brings to surface the complex belief systems of the Author; honestly its not quite that simple; unlike Fanasy what the Author is trying to get you to buy into is not a society where magic exists and therefore needing to make something imagined seem real... no its trying to sell you the theory that the story is working through (take a space travel journey between worlds; you do not need to know how an alien civilization evolved on a world [I mean you should as a point of interest] but you do need to believe that what they think and their faith(S) matter); take Star Trek; you can see how much of a talker Bradbury was through the episodes natures.kirk or otherwise sure some preferred a good fight; but the stance in the story is that fights are not the most important part... this planet has this issue that race has that predijuce. Those were the important plot points. Take Star Trek but rather than science its a magic ship and instead of planets its universes... the focus shifts and now Q has a note worthy reason each time that the Author must choose in order for Q to do as it wants this time, it simply cannot be ignored because as a fantasy the individual matters more. I read between the lines and within the page and etc. I read/watch to know who and why for the story itself and to understand all about any world or plot I can. Constantly trying to beat the Author to the twist.
The Cicadas got a lot of air time in this episode.

20:00 was way to into making money to be rebel
So, who do you think told the classmates that Shinji is leaving this day at this time? Who is behind this blatant manipulation?
