- Greetings! Today we are exploring the different pros/cons to each of these flagship mixers. In the first half, we are playing a track from the #denondj #prime6000M player through a single channel - exploring filters and effects. In the second half, we are exploring #stem #mixing via #ableton #push3 and @Ableton. This video also includes the @Arturia #rig16 #audiointerface, the @EricaSynths #zendelay and the @strymon #nightsky reverb unit. All music/loops are original productions made by yours truly with the help of @NativeInstruments #kompletekontrol , #maschine , Ableton Suite, #analoglab and other plugins. Thanks for watching! #musicproducer #livejam #edm #madewithni #standalone #synthesizer #reverb #delay

Great video man! 🤯👏
Thank you! I love tinkering!
Thank you for this! Way better than I did on mine for DJ's. I'll send them your way!
Thank you!
I'm using all eight stereo channels on model1 with two k2, which have four stereo outputs on aggregate device (mac os). Mascine mk3, Td3-mo, one scarlett 2i2 and Eventide H90 for effects plus some more from bitwig. It's more expensive, but to me personally also more enjoyable 😅
I get it! Whatever works, right? I’d still love to have both options 😊
We're so lucky to be spoiled for choice in the music tech space. There are so many great options out there for every budget. I preferred the M1 just because its a lot of fun to experiment with. having a drive unit per channel plus an incredible master filter rocks. main reason that filter kicks so much is because of the resonance or Q.
Indeed. We are totally spoiled! The model1 is hard to beat, in any way. The new AlphaTheta mixer looks like a step in the general direction with the NEVE internals, but it’s still not a competition for the MOdel1. I ultimately stuck with my dual V10 setup due to my ableton live PA vision… much less fuss with USB IO and the 3,4,5, infinite ways to layer different effects are appealing. That said, I did have to add the Analog Heat/FX to the signal chain bc I missed that gritty/crunchy/analog distortion of the model1 - and the analog filter on the master.
I would also suspect the filter opening up HITS harder bc it’s analog… not a pioneer digital filter. You can adjust the Q on the V10 with the knob, but it’s not the same sound.
@@MrFullyCharged yep spoiled for choice. theres a tool for every use case. m1 is an expression of one mans touring career and meant to be an end game mixer that cant go out of date but it comes with some inconvenience around connectivity. v10 did a great job packaging a single product and it gets the job done. the euphonia is super cool and a nice iteration on the convenience of a v10 with the analog warmth of neve consoles. i love the vu meter screen.
people complain about the cost of the euphonia but its essentially a m1.4, high end audio interface, 6 effects pedals, vu meter, rotary mixer etc all of that adds up to way over the $3500 retail price if put together separately.
@@bikesbeersbeats Exactly. People also complain when a new race bike comes out at 11k without a motor… but when you ride at that pace, it’s worth the expense. I think many people see the newest and best tech and immediately reply about COST bc, quite honestly, they can’t afford it. That’s the case in the MTN bike world, MOTO world, music… etc. I was “full time DJ” in the late 90s, early 00s… and at a certain point (when all was going really well actually) I decided to stop the scene, finish college, and focus on my other career - healthcare. It was ironically the best musical decision I could have made. Now Music is my hobby. I create when I want, mix when i want, and i can afford any tools I want to try… Had I pursued “full time DJ” instead, who knows… maybe I would have become somewhat famous/successful, or maybe - more likely, by the numbers, I’d be on forums today complaining about the scene and how it’s changed… and complaining about $3k mixers. In 3-5 years the best tech today will trickle down to the $300 mixers for everyone to enjoy. The euphonia is really a beautiful piece and I imagine is worth every penny for the right musician.
Indeed. My M1 is available!
Ive found the grit knob really sings in when it's set to 70% and the track is peaking around +3. If you crank the grit knob all the way, you won't really start to clip until your above 0db.
ice ice baby
Wow nice…is really what i needed. I choose Model 1 + sound interface Antelope Zen Tour Synergy Core. Is a good idea to buy this sound interface? I hear that have a very great sound and premium AD/DA conversion. Also have 1 DSUB to fit 4 channels from model1 and i can use the monitor and reamp outs for other 2 channels. This combo costs more than V10…but i think it deservers.
I'm not 100% up to speed on the Zen, but ANTELOPE is one of the strongholds. Hawtin has been on Antelope for years. I think RME, Antelope, UA are... well... yeah. tops. Nice one!
The model 1 is such an awesome mixer i feel stupid for selling my 1.4 which i Will buy the 6 channel version now. I Just miss that warm sound Although the upfaders suck but i guess using the trick i found cutting and adding using the gain section rather Than using the faders the sound is that good that u run it rotary style with the use of the gaming stage!
I have one available if you’re in the market. It’s the one Richie used in Denver last year.
I’m @bobbyduracel on the socials, mostly reachable on IG
You said the V10 could multitrack straight into Ableton or other DAW.....?
Is this right ?
I can't find any info on it....
Could you do a video on it please !
Because that is a real game changer for me man....
I’ll make one this week demonstrating.
Nice overview of the Model 1. I've got the 1.4 which I love for mixing Techno, super warm sound. Been looking at V10's so this was a great comparison! I've got a 4 deck techno mix on my channel if you want to check it out :)
Thanks! I will. It is such a warm and lovely mixer. I honestly love both of them in equal but different ways. 😊
make more videos brozki!😎
I will!!
Thanks for the sub! You’re #500!!!!!
@@MrFullyChargedIt was my pleasure fam! People need to support each other more if we wanna create our own and better reality. This is the way.
I looked at your video multiple times and you ran the v10 way hotter Than you did the Play differently model 1. If you ran the model 1 as hot it would sound way better Than it did!
You’re not wrong. That thing SINGs when you push it a little bit. Even at the “temp” in the video, the Model1 sounds better. Go figure.
Awesome vid thanks for doing this great vid. It's interesting how much smaller the model one is compared to the v10 almost the same size as the push . It felt more surgical and more in a confined space.
Seems like u had more fun with the model one and that Jam. Loved the jam!!
Sound wise they both sound very good.
Model one def has a more warmer gritty sound. V10 much cleaner. Interesting though eve though the v10 is way bigger it does have effects built in and a sound card, seems like the v10 is more versatile less stuff to lug around as I'm sure the sound card the for the model one is really big. It's a tough one. I heard the model one's faders only really work at the top, is that true?.
But yeah great vid there almost head to head. If you had to pick one which one would u keep? If the v10 was a little smaller I'd think the v10 wins just because for similar money u get way more. Sound card , fx etc. 🎉. Thanks again
Thanks for the positive comments. The size is really quite notable when you compare the two. I think the Model1 faders are totally as useful as the V10. It really is just… do you want layers upon layers of effects and routing built in w/ USB direct to Ableton… or do you want super WARM ANALOG sound and a bunch of external effects units & audio interface? I can’t decide! This weekend I’ll explore some different options to get GRIT out of the V10 signal chain, and make another video comparing the sounds. :)
@@MrFullyCharged Do u know of any audio interfaces that are smaller than the model one it's self and would work with all the inputs, I'm guessing you need 12 stereo outs for 6 channels.? An interface that isn't a gigantic galactic ship lol Something small and compact.
@@qwertySnowy Yeah, so therein lies my Model1 conundrum. To get the right number of physical OUTs, you almost need a rack-mount interface. I used the 18i20 from Focusrite with their ADAT expander to get a TON of outputs, routed the whole pile to two different mixers in stem pairs. You could get a smaller “desktop” interface (think the cube style, rectangle) but most of them lack enough 1/4” outs. You’d have to add the ADAT expander. I am selling the Model1 used in this video FWIW ;) But I’d pair it with a rack-mount. I actually have the new Arturia 16RIG and it’s mind blowing. The overall cost compared to the market for such a high count of physical ins/outs cannot be beat. I made a $70 hard case from amazon into a custom carrying rig for my rack interface and my Push… so if I really wanted to play in stem format on the M1 live I could throw the mixer in the custom case, throw push/16RIG into the second case, and have a live jam rig. It’s really such a funny puzzle. BOTH mixers just ROCK. One of them is ultra flexible and really convenient, also very LARGE in size and weight… but it’s sorta the Swiss Army knife. It’s just… all digital. The other is the epitome of analog dreams for anyone who likes the DJ mixer-ish format… but you better pack effects and an interface. It can totally be done. Hawtin runs traktor through 4 decks on M1, then adds effect returns from Ableton/Bitwig/DAW so he can send out of mixer, to DAW, back to mixer on separate channel. His little custom effects racks are midi mapped to the A/Heath XONE k2 control surface so he can get hands on… his other mixer handles a stem session from his daw or his semi-modular, or a combo of both. Really once you get past the “it needs the interface and i have to build my own effects outside of the M1” the limits cease. I still have both because it’s been such a hard decision! Ultimately, I’m selling the Model1 because I have other ways to get that analog grit/analog filter with outboard units & hopefully that gives me the best of both, albeit pricey, worlds. I will say for stability the current favorite IO is the RME line, and the UA Apollo 16 is a full DSUB in/out device - so for one or two Model1 mixers chained together, you would just run two DSUB cables from the Apollo16 to the M1, super clean… but hey… it’s another 3k :/
Thanks for that so your gonna stick with the v10, that's cool. The model one .4 looks cool too. I'm pretty sure one could get a small interface for that as only four channels
I wish mixers had 8 channnels as that's what most midi controllers have and same with push 8x 8 pads.
Still not sure over these two?
Would you recommend the model1.4. I guess your limited to 4 stems then vs 6
It is interesting… overall if you’re leaning model1 I would highly recommend just paying $2,200 for mine shipped in a Vulcan case so you can use all six stems. :) My friend owns a dj shop with full commerce options, including the same financing/plans the big boys use, if that helps. I’d go full six. You’ll want the extra channels.
@@MrFullyCharged that's USD? Not cad?
V10 is good for djing as you have fx onthe mixer BUT i prefer using hardware fx units anyways.
I guess its the best digital dj mixer on the market atm.
Truth. If EFX are external and you already own a nice interface… Model1 is hard to beat. V10 is the best digital, agreed 100%.
i thought the sound difference is a meme but it even comes through in youtube, kinda regret that i got the v10 ngl. even tho investing in a nice interface and having to get external effects is a huge minus. you'd think a mixer made by hawtin would feature at least an interface but having had a xone 4d i wouldn't want an interface from a&h ever again so maybe it's for the better
I think the clean solution is to add the analog heat/fx or something similar from the v10 to the speakers so you can add the analog circuit & hear the grit. That said, if you are interested in the analog heat, model1, find me on insta @bobbyduracel ;)
I've noticed u can't apply beat effects to say cross fader a or b and apply effects to grouped channels like on the other djm mixers. U can only apply it to individual tracks or the master vs cross faded a or b, not sure why they left that out .
Right. Beat Effects are only a channel OR total mix. Still, the Send/return FX and the other four internal send effects can be any combination of channels with any amount of send. In practice the V10 does not seem limited IMHO. I also have one of those available!
Oh so it's possible to apply the same efffect to say two channels and apply those two channels to cross faded a like any djm mixer. There's a switch on the djm a9 that's says apply to cross faded a or b. But yes I think I get what you mean
@@MrFullyCharged your keeping the v10 right selling the 1.4?
@@qwertySnowy yeah, not the Beat FX on the right - but the effects on the left for sure. You can feed a few channels to the desired effect at, say, 50% and assign the CFader to those channels as group A, then activate the effect, get that quick building sound, and crossfade to the right so you only hear the effect trailing off.
@@MrFullyCharged ahh nice a demo of this would be awesome if u get time 😀
is there a sound card with 12 outs / 6 stereo out to use the 6 channels on model 1? the antelope cards are very expensive
Yeah… they are. You could do the @focusrite 18i20 and add their adat expander for a boat load of outs- or just run the 18i20, use 5 stem channels on model1, and route your sends back to channel 6 on the mixer… those cards are inexpensive, especially used.
@@MrFullyCharged thank you so much!
Rme raydat + ferrofish pulse 16
@@Judasz696 thanks
@@emilianoibarra3537 maybe also check out arturia aud8ofuse 16 rig
V10 channel filters seem dumb. Does not really make sense to me why would they make us select the filter type with the button, and not combine it in a single knob, like clockwise for HPF and counterclockwise for LPF...
I don’t disagree. It would be nice to have options per channel (on the fly) for combo HPF/LPF.
