  • In response to a prior video, here are a ton of questions answered regarding Push 3, the V10, USB and Audio connectivity, and a host of other topics. This setup consists of a DJM V10 connected to ‪@Ableton‬ / Push3 over USB. All audio layers are routed to the mixer in stems. To the right I have the #zendelay from ‪@EricaSynths‬ and the ‪@strymon‬ #nightsky #reverb for send/return effects. This is not a #standalone or #dawless jam, as I am using the computer. If you run standalone, you are not able to send stems to the V10 over USB... It's a trade-off, right?
The audio during the jam session is a bit distorted - I went a little hot on the Analog Heat / FX unit I just recently connected (Elektron). Hey, it'll get better each time, right? I hope you enjoy!

Thank you, I will! This is just a quick demo. I will share more jams in early January, with more dynamic audio results. Please click the buttons to support this endeavor. I appreciate the feedback and encouragement.

Edited bc I realized I stated most of my thoughts in the video!
Part of the calculus is trying to figure out how your home live rig translates to the stage. It’s always a trade-off between how individually expressive you want things to be and how easily you want your gear to travel and integrate into whatever set up the club is using. I can’t say where the balance point is because I haven’t explored it yet… What I will say is that you should build the instrument that allows you to be as expressive as you want to be And use equipment that allows your creativity to flow through it, vs being limited by it. work on that first and worry about the portability in life performance later. That’s my best advice. Music is music, gigs can come as a result of good music, but they aren’t a substitute for the satisfaction you get from making it in the first place.

Was gonna buy a v10. Do you rate it to replace my 96.

I’m bias. I’ve always appreciated the sound of the A/H mixers but never the look/feel. To me, the V10 is the only choice if you aren’t going for pure analog model1.

    Game changing man but ....
I play mostly hardware, Digitakt, Digitone, Td-3 etc. So I want to perform as normal but record into Ableton on 5 or 6 separate tracks over USB...Can that be done?

This is cool. It's a shame u can't transfer audio over usb in standalone mode for push. Then can ditch the laptop . So far all the adat audio interfaces are huge , bigger than a laptop . Great setup

Hey, thanks! I agree. Adat stems is a workaround for full standalone + V10, but yeah - my laptop is smaller than the 18i20 & you get the added benefit of less “down processing” to get to standalone mode. Just jam. It also doesn’t hurt that an M1 MacBook AIR can run a pretty hefty Ableton session these days and not even flinch… crazy.

@@MrFullyCharged thanks for the reply . The v10 is cool I want to do the same, use the laptop, ableton and stems. If u were to make a live set using the v10 as it's technically an instrument too, would it be an issue to take the v10 to do live gigs? I know know a lot of venues have there own mixer. As it's part of the live set, one would have too. I'm interested in doing that just wondering if it's an issue lugging all the gear around etc.

    2 V10s??

I worked for a distributor for awhile on the side, hustled up two of them. One is for rentals (primarily), the other for my own daily use. I have a vision for using two Push3 units and two V10s for my live PA set, sorta mixing two records but… my own works… divided over 64 clips/8 scenes/6 stem groups to the V10. It’s just a passion project, and yes - it’s totally overkill :) For now, the V10 on the left is for my denon primes, 4 decks + effects. The V10 on the right is for ableton/push, 5 channels for stems, one for returns/effects. For awhile the V10s were totally out of stock, so I sold both, made some money, ordered replacements & waited 9 months for Pioneer to catch up. It’s a slow side hobby, but it’s FUN. Cheers!

Got the same idea , either v10 and maschine plus in standalone, or maybe get the faderfox way but I don’t like the set of 12 sliders, and still need a better audio interface . And if i get really rich and lucky, another Maschine plus in white and an s11 as mixer, skin with half black half white so I don’t have to think about channels, and do a live set that way. But now I think I will start with a 750mk2 (for an offer I can’t resist), 2 x1 mk3 (I prefer traktor for long mixes, to create something new out of old stuff, Goes great with Maschine) and 2 channels left then for Maschine, and a h90 for send/return. Got a microbrute stellar I can insert somewhere also . I did it already with my pioneer rev7 and all channels are available so that’s good, and using SoundCloud dj, timestretch/pitchshift, eq, fx, STEMs, beat fx and an endless library to sample from. We live in great times as a music producer 😊

@@Iredidv Yep, honestly if I wasn't a few years into trying to build this massive rig, I would be on a single large mixer. A single 4 or 6 ch mixer will allow you to really begin to flesh out this idea. You can jam the Ableton / Maschine track on a single output channel for now and combine with your traktor layers... then take time on a separate session to tinker with your production track in stems on that same mixer over USB... then start combining them all. It's a massive undertaking, to make it all GEL correctly - but it's really fun and rewarding. I may never "finish" this set, but i'm having a blast on the journey. My current issue is taking a half dozen original works that I love jamming & finding the best way to blend them together live like a dj mix... it never ends. Cheers!
