remembering to take that master channel filter down is going to be a pain point for sure. Wish there were A/B Filters, that's about the only thing missing though!
I had the Pioneer DJM-1000: Pioneer's first 6 channel 24/32Bit Mixer that was $4,200.00, back in 2004. I worked double shifts for 6 months to purchase it. It was massive and the build quality has yet to be rivaled. The level of detail that went into the mixer was beyond impressive, the resistance channel faders, switchable channels, solidness of the mixer build, the isolator section... dear all that is unholy... talk about control with a great fee. For me, the mixer has always been my center point. The last decade of DJM's hasn't really impressed me. When I saw the V10, it got my attention immediately. I reluctantly traded in my DJM-1000 for the V10. The first few days, I felt I made a mistake waiting for the V10. Upon opening and playing the mixer... let's say, I have no regrets. Initially, I was completely overwhelmed. However, the layout with how everything is interlaced with the graphical squares separating each section, in matter of days, become intuitive. No, I haven't mastered the mixer. I just know what the buttons do "in theory". Beyond happy with my purchase. I will add, this does not look or feel like other Pioneer mixers.
been that way for awhile now. especially in techno, where djs add percussion and stuff to artists tracks. many djs just play their own stuff anyway. crowd doesn't know the artists enough to even know whats coming through the speakers.
wait wait wait, someone correct me if i'm wrong.... for a $3200 msrp mixer and you can't assign every channel it's own effect ? ......... A&H DB4 still has this option, yeah it's a 4 channel mixer instead of 6 and this mixer has 4 EQ's but the A&H DB4 can have isolation mode on the EQ's to compensate, what is really standing out many years later? I'm impressed with the look and options but to me, it looks like a Front House soundboard mini command center and not an evolution in the DJ realm.
I don't know if you have noticed it Phil, but the reason that the moment you turn on the filter and it starts to be in effect regardless of your turning the channel filter knob is because you have left the filter knob on the master channel open. I could sense your inner reaction that says "there is definitely something wrong but I will slide into the skid because I don't want to shoot this again" :)
Ha ha love your readying of the video, yeah I did work out the nuances, some of them pretty close to filming time though it must be said! Thanks for the feedback Baba.
That's a huge leap for pioneer. I love my Xone 96, im sure people who purchase this mixer will be satisfied. I wish pioneer would make a newer standalone FX hardware like the efx/rmx.
itimmy101 rmx-1000 was a brilliant unit. I just wished they allowed it to work digitally. It has all the in and out to do so but it won’t. Which means you’re stuck with their AD/DA conversion in the middle of everything, even more annoying if you’re already playing digitally.
I love the "NO CLICK IN THE CENTER" style filter! That's why I'm still rocking the DJM2000-Nexus. When useing a ''CENTER ZERO POSITION'' style encoder, it's so easy to be slighty off center "especially if the mixer has had alot of use, because the center notch becomes week & less accurate over time''
I wondered by they took away the white trim on the outside of the EQ trim pots. I always thought that was plus to lower end mixers. Then again there is always chroma caps.
As a former DJM 1000 owner, I would only consider a replacement for DJM-1000 unless Pioneered released a dedicated 6-channel mixer that truly had something new to add. I bought the V10 three months again. It was worth it.
As many people already mentioned I (as a listerner, not a DJ) am really afraid of that compressor. Technically it's a brilliant feature and for people that know how to use it right it'll give them a lot more freedom and make their life easier. But keep in mind that there are people out there that think a gain knob is volume control. So I'm a bit skeptical^^
Phil, I like the way you said "Rooter". I was thinking I have to buy this exotic piece of music gear to hook up my CDJ's to this beast? We pronounce it R -out-er here in the states. I'm joking of course, you're one of my heroes in the DJ and technology review sectors. I called up my one millionaire DJ friend (that I don't know) to check this out. After searching for his keys for 15 minutes in his 10 room mansion, we hopped in his Bugatti and drove to our local Guitar Center to pre-order this Mixing desk. incredibly, they laughed at us and told us..1. It's for DJ's and 2. No, we won't have this on the showroom floor or maybe never. I know, I couldn't believe it either. They also said no, we don't carry Rooters here. Unbelievable.
Looks promising! I'm hesitating between Module 1 / Xone:96 DJ mixer / and this. This looks like it's got all the features i need. So if i'm not mistaking it's also an audio interfase? Will be able to route for example channel 1-3 to Ableton and 3 -6 to Serato. So i can create a dj / live set? What about the send and returns can they go true some Ableton effects?
It’ll be interesting to see how the more performance-based DJs use this in the wild with samplers etc. Overkill for me and many others but there is clearly a market for this and they’ll be rubbing their hands in excitement.
Before watching whole video i already guessed this is good Competition with alen&heath, A&H is always my first choice in mixer but this something i concern before buying...👌👌👌
The Xone 96 is almost half the price of this, so if you can buy a xone and some proper fx boxes youre still cheaper. I think this is for a niche market only, and pioneer showing their chops..if they bring this functionality to a 4 channel mixer, then there is real competition. But despite that, this beast looks awesome!
The price seems fair for what you are getting. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I think a lot of people that would normally buy an Allen and Heath would get this instead. Its so much closer to an A&H performance wise, and the integration with the CDJ's makes it a much more compelling purchase.
I'm digging the beat FX buttons. I typically run my fx in one channel and this looks nicer than the knob for toggling channels especially compared to a 900 nxs or older trying to see what channel you on in a dark club. Compressor would be nice for playing old tunes to compared to just trimming them up.
The send FX is great, but the filter doesn't seems really intuitive, as I heard, there's is no "0" point on it, so once it's on, it's on and you ear it, you can't let it on and play with it when needed (on A&H mixer it's the same but seems more light on the 0% position so it's still playable - but not really intuitive too). Also, it's great to have the possibility to put some pedal and FX and all that kind of external stuff, but it's sad that the crossfader part is limited in the setting. Those kind of mixer never have the same function as the S9, with crossfader/fader precise curve and tension adjust, they could put it on the front like on the S9, on in the screen menu, and that would open lot of possibility for turntable and live performance. Also not having a router build in, on that kind of high end level, especially on a 6 channel mixer... Hope they plan to have something with their future CDJ/XDJ line to compensate that, like a link in/link out to put player in serie and have your usb accesible on all player.
The zero point changes depending if you’re using hp or lp. They really should have on/off switches per channel because it looks like whatever you do on the filter is going to affect every channel so you really have to be careful especially if you’re playing on more than two channels. The problem is they’re copying the model one only halfway; if you want to encourage filter mixing you should implement it right.
I’m setting up this system in my home so far i have purchased Two QSC ks 12.2 and one 118 sub going to buy two pioneer 3000 cdjs should I just get the djm 900 nxs2 ? Please give me your input. Is v10 overkill
After watching your video I’m going to purchase the v10and the cdjs 3000 can you please tell me what Mac book to buy to complete this system. I’m new at this but I believe in buying good quality.
The Mid's here are called "Swept Mid's" what this does Is, If You are playing a Motown Track, through the Compressor, The High's (Treble) are effected and sound Thin and Harsh (like some Sixties Music), So with the "Swept Mid's" You can now Tone down just the Vocals, So more control over the Middle, Vocal range without touching the main Treble Knob. and killing the High Hats with It. Something all controller's should have by Now. One Gripe other than the Mic's are overlooked as a Secondary thing. Is the lack of a Mono Button next to the Fader. Playing some Tracks from the 50's and sixties that are Electronically Stereo-ed (Horrible) This gives You the Option of Going Mono on them ones. Formula Sound were the only ones to address this. Thanks for the review.
I've got a Xone 96 and have no intention of switching, but this adds a the ability to do a lot of the things the Xone enables me to in often more intuitive ways, with some extra bells and whistles on top. Although I would miss the ability to route my external FX units through eachother (Delay>Reverb), I'd imagine just pairing one of my outboard units with the build-in Beat-FX would accomplish the same task. Definitely curious to try one of these out.
i mix stuff from many time periods and getting all the various tunes to sound ok together is tricky especially on my small system.I sometimes notice the lack of oomph when i try and mix and old tune fro the 60s next to something really modern.I might match beats ok but the 60s track can sometimes sound a bit weak. When recording a mix i can fix this a bit in post but its even more of a challenge live and its not just a case of volume but a duller less bright sound like the 60s tune is 480p and the up to date is 1080p or worse 4k if you get my meaning.
Are the filters / eq all analogue or digital? ... nice having effects on the cross fader (bounce fx to track feature) is a killer feature on the octatrack.. the glitchFx are still the pioneer cheese.. and no dirty analogue saturation distortion.. but it has send/returns to compensate.
Hi! Im about to buy a pair of CDJ 3000s and i cant decide on a mixer. I'm organizing events and renting my equipment out to other promoters. Im stuck between DJM 900nx2 and DJM V10. Will V10 scare off potential costumers as its so BIG? 900nx2 is kinda old now and i dont want to buy something that might get upgraded any day. Also 900nx2 is too small for CDJ 3000's but V10 is too big... The only perfectly fitting mixer is s11 :/ Please help me 900nx2 or V10 :( I dont mind spending more
I want this for my live hardware set. Currently use the Roland MX-1 but I want individual channel effects. Love the external bus input. It’s actually a 10 channel as you have two mono mics and two stereo external pedal inputs. Wish it had MIDI input alongside the output to make it slave time clock.
So from my first observation of the length and size of that mixer, the next series of CDJ's will be larger and longer to fill out the size of the mixer?
Very impressive mixer !! I'll stick to my 96 tho !!! but the comp part is interesting , let's hope DJ's etc know what they are doing with extra new features like that , I think it's a possible sound engineers nightmare but only time will tell on its use in clubs, some producers artists don't really understand compression let alone a DJ ??
What I like about Denon/Pioneer is they manage to lower the cost of gear across the board. A&H (and PLAYDifferently) are very much innovators, Pioneer comes in and works out how to lower the price. This is progress and good for everyone. If you only need 2 channels then there are loads of awesome/cheap mixers out there just for you! This is a new category of mixers for artists that are running loads of gear onstage or performing with Ableton. Very cool stuff. Anyone that doesnt want a Model 1 + external audio interface, then this is a great option for you.
"Unity" just means same out level at some point as input level at another point in signal flow. I think you meant to just say 'get your average loudness similar between the tracks'. What would have been even better than the Comp control would have been a Dyn control with 12 o'clock off, compressor on one side, and expander on the other. Lots of Utility settings tweaks you could also allow the adjustment on for those possible, too... ratios, levels, thresholds, etc. They probably used the plastic touch screen so it could be pressure sensitive instead of capacitive, which is less prone to interference and accidental presses. Quite a smart idea with making part of the control over the master effects a touch screen like that, IMO, as it allows changes later. Definitely going after A&H and Playdifferently with that, especially the Xone 96 and DB4. Maybe also the Formula Sound FF6.2 and Rane MP2015. I assume the Rotarykits.com crew will be out with a mod. It’s lacking simultaneous high and low pass filters, full effects sections per channel, and full matrix inputs of the DB4. The Playdifferently, FF6.2 and MP2015 also have the ability to double up on both high and low pass on the same channel. Pioneer probably would have been better off replacing the treble with a dedicated LP and the low tone knob with a dedicated HP and lose their shared knob. That said, it looks like they went with normal EQs and not fixed or optional isolators on the channels, which is a good idea in and of itself even compared to the MP2015’s current use of only reduced-group-delay quasi-FIR 2nd-order isos on the channels without any bypass or optional EQ mode possible considering it's already got a master IIR 4th-order master iso.
Pioneer may have changed the ADC architecture, as it appears to be the first major Pioneer digital DJM to have fixed-gain analog inputs with the lack of the DJM900NXS2 and Tour "clip" channel LED indicators for the true analog trimming. Not really necessary to have done it this way, but everyone else does digital DJ mixers this fixed way. I’m curious about the DSP and audio processing code library they went with, because the particular TI one they've been using since the DJM-800/1000 on has used very similar coding even with each new model, including the newest with double float, with kind of a bloated low-end, among other things. Their master out section is still kind of wanky, though, with boost over unity, a different metering scale, and an extra red. As a definite first for Pioneer, they did finally mark the unity with a specific zero on the master knob, but I doubt they’re giving a -10dB option in the Utility settings like Denon gives you. Really no reason for it to have boost over unity on the master. 6 SPDIF inputs is a first and welcome. The AES/EBU master digital out from the Tour is also welcome. Not quite sure how you persuade the Xone analog, Playdifferently, or Formula Sound crowd to come over to digital. Certainly X1700, DB4, MP2015, and even the PPD9000 (that had channel compressors, by the way) proved you can get digital sound that meets or exceeds even the best analog DJ mixers, so perhaps this is just a matter of getting audiophile DJs to listen to the V10 or the other top digital boards. And may I just finally point out those meters? I guess meant to help people with color blindness. Lots of indications of Pioneer trying to play catch up with other brands on the V10. Nonetheless, this is a very exciting mixer.
There’s a -12dB master attenuation setting. Also I suspect they did away with the channel Clip, because they have “64bit processing” now, so the headroom is probably well and above what the VU shows.
@@dsquareddan Is the -12dB master attenuation before or after the master knob, though? They only need a digital domain -10dB attenuation before the master knob (or I guess -5dB according to the knob labeling) and then a mic/line setting for the analog out itself for people who don't know how to properly use studio boards :-) The only reason to get rid of the channel "Clip" word LEDs would be if the gain/trim stages are now purely digital domain and the ADC stages are fixed gain... i.e. the trim knobs now don't do anything to analog inputs going into the converters as on prior Pioneer digital DJMs. The double precision float DSP has nothing to do with this and was also present on the NXS2 and Tour mixers. From the DJM-800/1000-on, though, their ADC gain/trim architecture has been different than other digital DJ mixer designs, so I'm wondering if they've changed that now. I never really considered it an issue except from the standpoint of metering prior to the "Clip" LEDs, as there are pluses and minuses to each approach. So since the "Clip" word LEDs are gone, are the ADC stages fixed gain/trim now like most other digital DJ mixers? Still wondering why they decided to do the LP filter with a dry/wet left-to-right knob and why the HP filter isn't on the lower Send knob so you could double them up. The filter selection and resonance is also shared on all the channel filters. I'm curious who they actually had test run this design, because it's got some goofy choices. It honestly looks like a copy-paste job from MS Paint. If you wanna see a really useable copy-paste job, do a search for my 3CH matrix version of the PlayDifferently.
Is the sound quality as good as the Rane MP2015? The filters and isolators seem to sound better on the Rane (totally different mixer obvs but I have one so was just wondering).
I like the way this is going. I work with 4 channels and a TR8S and this could be useful... but i m not sure that it will be a club standard anytime soon... anyway it s a nice gear to play with. The only thing stopped me to buy the Model1 was the lack of effects.
Hello Mate. I enjoy your videos and have a lot of respect for what you guys do. I was wondering how's the sound coming out from an Analog source (Vinyl), while I know the sound quality is subjective but we can all agree (or not but doesn't change the fact) that the recent Pioneer mixers were terrible on Analog source (Including the NX2 and S9) I was hoping this compressor would create a decent balance even though I've lost faith on Pioneer especially since this seems to be a fully digital mixer... That's exactly why pioneer isn't competing with most A&H, because they care about Analog... let's not even mention the Mastersound. Since this is a game changer (in theory) and for the price tag, I was hoping they would have done something about that. How does it sound on vinyl?
We only had the mixer for a few hours, and didn't get to test the vinyl performance, but as they are selling it as an "audiophile mixer" I would guess that they'll have upgraded the phono preamps.
@@digitaldjtips Please let me know when u get a chance to test it with record vinyl, the definition of "Audiophile" for Pioneer is flexible. Many thanks
This is what Pioneer was doing in the lab. While Denon just launched an all out assault on them. This mixer will make the crowd forget what track is playing with all of those effects on top of it. Two different companies. One makes an extension of the same old thing. And the other makes new never done before things.
I’ve been wondering about why this mixer might good for live given all the advancements and what’s happening with synths, eurorack, drum machines, controllers etc. Could you help me understand? Is the idea that there’s some way to sync up an arpeggio sequence on a synth in time with the tracked BPM or Pioneer sync? That would all be done via MIDI right? Or would this mixer interface with those types of external equipment in some other way?
It's just a very flexible mixer for primarily techno DJs who like to push things to the limits, and DJ out currently with FX pedals etc to get their sound.
I love the zoom when you say CONTROL hahahah, also great vid! love the v10, many applications for it other than just traditional DJing. The CDJ 3000s though, fail.
Hmm, a compressor. Am I a legend for riding the trim knob(kinda doing what a compressor would do but manually, although not exactly the same thing) to match levels while doing open format sets where I'd mix an 80s track to a club banger?
PHAT DADDY the compressor might be my favorite new thing here. Not gonna buy one of course but I might start shopping for a stand-alone to use as an external fx unit
I like how you used an RCA cable split into 2 and plugged them into the digital ports. it works...but it's not really meant for that. actual digital cables have a different ohm rating
actually they dont. 99% of rca cables are 75 ohm they just aren't labled as such. that's the rca specification. but cheaply made super long ones may end up with a higher impedance
I expect the screen is like that so you can actually use the gear while wet. It’s a problem with the new screens that a drop or two skews the usability.
Is the sound quality good enough to use it as a studio mixer? (as well as DJing). Would definitely want to use it as a production tool once I got used to bouncing stuff around on it.... (Especially at that price)
wait wait wait, someone correct me if i'm wrong.... for a $3200 msrp mixer and you can't assign every channel it's own effect ? ......... kathrynw3 If you REALLY know the model 1, you won’t write such a stupid comment, the only SIMILARITY is the 6 channels, the model 1don’t have this “classic” eq, don’t have an effect section, crossfader, dj fader caps, so i don’t know what are you talking about...
@@benceujvari960 If you really want to get technical. They copied the overall layout. The 6 channels. The A/B headphone cue and they literally stole the exact filter knob from the model 1. Copied the master EQ.They copied the master filter with a resonance control. Then they copied Xone 92 with the 4 EQ band. After all that they added everything from the djm 900.
AMP Techno They don’t copy anything. This is a new thing that has everything, so this isn’t existed in the past, and this is why it’s a new thing, it’s that simple, sometimes you just have to think more than the usual 2 seconds...
Ok genius, how would you have designed it to be different? You do realize that pioneer actually “pioneered” a lot of the design and features in the early days of dj technology that all companies have pulled ideas from right?
Screen on this mixer is typical old 90 tech garbage. It worries me what next CDJ will look like. With this crap again when we have Denon now? I hope not. But this is really telling and disappointing already. Done commenting for today. Thanks. :) Cool ideas in this mixer but Pioneer is old corporation with Apple taste in pricing structure. Give as liitle as you can for as much as you can get form them. Waiting for 1000$ Laptop/mixer stand form Pioneer.
Have you actually played on the V10. When I bought mine, I immediately got rid of my X1800 as this mixer is at a whole other level and the way hetter sound quality, features and build quality more than justifies the price difference vs Denon. I kept my SC5000 as I do like those a lot and those players together with the V10, to me, is the best of both worlds.
Good review but it would have been nice to hear the perspective from a producer who does hybrid live DJ sets. The explanation of the filters, compressors, EQs and effects were a little weak. I don't think the host understands the problems fully that Pionneer tried to solve with this product. Anyway, can't wait to hook up a synthesizer, a drum machine and a couple of pedals to this :)
Julien Nakache I was actually wondering about this but no one was talking about it and not many people had any sort of understanding of that part. Could you help me understand? Is the idea that there’s some way to sync up an arpeggio sequence on a synth in time with the tracked BPM or Pioneer sync? That would all be done via Midi right? Or would this at all interface in some way with a modular eurorack system for example?
I'm an A&H addicted for mixers as I'm a Pioneer addicted for decks.. About mixers I think A&H own the 'soul&feel' and Pioneer 'quickness&smartness'.. I already have DB4 and 900NXS2 and I'm very attracted to trade it for V10.. mmm, very doubtful..if V10 come in my house it's hard it'll go out, not so 'mobile'.. ..and in days will be out new S9, that I ever loved!.. ..very doubtful..
OK as it is a public comment, the camera shows up like for all pioneer stuff flickering, which means I'll keep going on with AH at least at home if my rodec would break up. Venues use these mixers, like dj standard material. Dj's are artists and as an artist you should always adapt to change, having the same material everywhere makes the dj's more challenging to be un-predictable.
Its nice for a digital mixer.i mixed on it a few times, i wont lie as much as I like heath mixers, i still like pioneer. The fact they stepped up to 32bit is nice. I just feel its too big for my room man.. pioneer make a nice 2 channel with similar features. Like the old djm 909! I just wanna mix vinyl with some good send fx. 2 channel. And, add an oled display please n thanks
Wow Mr phil you are pretty damn fast...👍👍i mean a few moments pioneer shows it new mixer to the world in it UA-cam channel and a few moments later you already reviewed the mixers...that is insanely fast..👍👍😁
Pioneer makes an impressive piece of technology for the DJ industry. I however see some major problems coming to light with this board. And that is going to be the end user who iscgoing to create those problems. This board is definitely not designed for those amateur want to be D j's and it is geared for those who know how to lay down a great effect set with little to no distortion of the music. I can see D j's and other artists at festivals or at night ckubs completely and totally trashing their sets because they're trying to do too much at 1 time and this board has that capability to do so. On the plus side, I do really like how Pioneer lays out there mixing boards. It makes it very functional for those or at the advanced level and has been around this kind of technology for a long time.
@@digitaldjtips You are absolutely correct. I dont fault the gear, it is the end user who is going to mess up. The only flaw I see is that there are too many options that can be accessed at the same time. Other than that, I would love to get my hands on one because on how creative I can be with my mixes.
It is curious that there are these instruments, certainly excellent, with so many buttons and controls that perhaps a DJ will only use 10% of them in a console made up of 6 CDJs, 1 or 2 mixers, 2 laptops with traktor or serato, an FX, a groove box, all controlled via MIDI, USB cable, LAN cable and never before in this historical period has the music been so minimal, I would say spartan, it's just percussion with the bass at the limit of saturation, loop effects, some synthesizer with a few very low notes. But how did Tony Humpries, David Morales, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Danny Tenaglia do it? All you needed was a 2-channel mixer with the microphone channel used as the third channel, a Roland TB 808, a couple of turntables, some chalk to mark the cue points, for the more technological DJs a simple Amiga PC or an 80386 with card Roland MPU-401 audio and this was enough to create unforgettable melodies! I don't think David Morales used a virtual DJ to create the space cowboy remix, he only had jamiroquai's voice and some analogue instruments
@@digitaldjtips I mean if the sound card is better or as good as rane MP2015 and has the functions beyond A&H, Model 1 and RMX100 combined.. its surely the jack of all trades.. and should be the industries go to mixer once again.. Looking forward to their answer on CDJ/XDJ lineup as well.. Do you think its going to be this year?
@@digitaldjtips No not at the moment but the being able to have the same input on different channels with seperate effects, eq, filters, etc. Is a detail that seems very appealing to me because it adds the possibility to get into creating whole new compositions as opposed to just mixing records.
So now this has been out for nearly 4 years, and the DJM A9 a year, the price difference isn’t that much, bang for buck which has the better sound quality and best overall between the two??
THIS IS MY NEXT MIXER. I WAS GOING TO BUY PLAY DIFFERENT BUT THE FACK THAT YOU CAN CONTROL TRAKTOR FROM IT IS VERY NICE. MY FATHER CHRIS LIEBING IS GETTING HOLD & TIRED AND SOMEBODY NEED TO REPLACE HIM. I AM READY

It’s funny how much of an Allen & Heath copy this mixer is. Even the knob dial graphics are circles incrementing in size!

Very true
Yup and it makes me wonder why they still don't include TRS inputs on the channels...
been that way for awhile now. especially in techno, where djs add percussion and stuff to artists tracks. many djs just play their own stuff anyway. crowd doesn't know the artists enough to even know whats coming through the speakers.

I want this for studio use. I Would love to mix Ableton tracks with this
Cool :)
"im sure people who purchase this mixer will be satisfied." agreed!
Trust me, all this mixer is , is a front house mixer with effects... Materials and audio chipset lags well behind the 96 and xone db4 quality.
Yes, absolutely. I’m also really hoping that Pioneer comes with a new fx unit to supplement the wonderful V10.
Reviewer seems like a good guy. I have the Model 1 and was curious about this. Thx for sharing.
No problem Omar
Pioneer ain't messing around with this mixer. Pretty awesome if you're the dj who can fully exploit, and afford it. Very nice!
Definitely!
Very interesting offering from Pioneer DJ. Thank you Phil.
No problem!
I love the "NO CLICK IN THE CENTER" style filter! That's why I'm still rocking the DJM2000-Nexus. When useing a ''CENTER ZERO POSITION'' style encoder, it's so easy to be slighty off center "especially if the mixer has had alot of use, because the center notch becomes week & less accurate over time''
Nice one Theo
the amount of knobs would give me anxiety in a dark nightclub
Lol definitely got to be on your game
That's who it's for...
I wondered by they took away the white trim on the outside of the EQ trim pots. I always thought that was plus to lower end mixers. Then again there is always chroma caps.
Don’t you mean MORE anxiety? Lol
@@welchimusic7953 I already struggle with eyesight and a regular djm 900 hahaha
This is 1st time club/festival mixer since DJM 1000 in 2005 which is more customize efx system and possible use for EDCLV this May.
Yeah will be at home in big clubs and at festivals
As a former DJM 1000 owner, I would only consider a replacement for DJM-1000 unless Pioneered released a dedicated 6-channel mixer that truly had something new to add. I bought the V10 three months again. It was worth it.
Just picked up my new DJM V10. Aboustly love it
Good to hear!
Very true, knowing how to use your gear properly should be a priority for everyone
Brilliant 😆Thanks for watching!
Game changer. Tremendous job from Pioneer, well done!
Nice one :)
The COMP knob is awesome! That is what I’ve been missing on the midi-controller range. (Yes I play a lot of years thru each other)
Agreed, it's an awesome addition.
Yes, it has a full in/out audio interface, so any routing you can do with any other interface is possible with this Tom.
It’ll be interesting to see how the more performance-based DJs use this in the wild with samplers etc. Overkill for me and many others but there is clearly a market for this and they’ll be rubbing their hands in excitement.
Completely agree
might as well actually play live w/ a dope live mixer. This is some loops on tops of toops on top of FX garbage.
Only Jews rub hands for these sort of things, not the gentiles.
Before watching whole video i already guessed this is good Competition with alen&heath, A&H is always my first choice in mixer but this something i concern before buying...👌👌👌
Definitely
Thanks for sharing!
That's the closest one to xone DB4 in the market!! GOOD JOB pioneer, keep improving maybe one day..
Thanks for watching :)
I'm digging the beat FX buttons. I typically run my fx in one channel and this looks nicer than the knob for toggling channels especially compared to a 900 nxs or older trying to see what channel you on in a dark club. Compressor would be nice for playing old tunes to compared to just trimming them up.
Thanks for watching Curtis 😊
Thanks for watching and weighing in!
He made a mistake by not turning down the master filter. I guess there is a 0 point if he'd tun every filter down :D
The zero point changes depending if you’re using hp or lp. They really should have on/off switches per channel because it looks like whatever you do on the filter is going to affect every channel so you really have to be careful especially if you’re playing on more than two channels. The problem is they’re copying the model one only halfway; if you want to encourage filter mixing you should implement it right.
iTubeYou I don’t think so but we’ll see when someone else make a tutorial

Do you think this is the only product Pionner will release this year? I was hoping for the follow up to the CDJ 2000 Nexus 2 (CDJ 2000 Nexus 3).
Highly doubtful that this will be the only thing this year
Thank you for your comment. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching and weighing in :)
This beast is a mix of EVERYTHING!
Yeah, beast is the right word :)
Anyone remembers the DJM-2000...? I never saw anyone used that in a "real world" DJ set.. This reminds me of that

Nice one Andrew, let us know what you think if you get your hands on one of them :)
i mix stuff from many time periods and getting all the various tunes to sound ok together is tricky especially on my small system.I sometimes notice the lack of oomph when i try and mix and old tune fro the 60s next to something really modern.I might match beats ok but the 60s track can sometimes sound a bit weak. When recording a mix i can fix this a bit in post but its even more of a challenge live and its not just a case of volume but a duller less bright sound like the 60s tune is 480p and the up to date is 1080p or worse 4k if you get my meaning.
Try out Platinum Notes, it helps with this problem
its like a cross between a DJ mixer and a mixing desk. Would be great for dub sets.
It would indeed...
All digital
Hi! Im about to buy a pair of CDJ 3000s and i cant decide on a mixer. I'm organizing events and renting my equipment out to other promoters. Im stuck between DJM 900nx2 and DJM V10.

Don't think so, the mixer is just a bit wider than the previous one
Answer to Play Differently ...
Definitely!
unsinndj not at all. I have the Model 1 and it’s completely different to this pioneer mixer.
I'm hope there's not too many producers that don't understand compression 😅
What I like about Denon/Pioneer is they manage to lower the cost of gear across the board. A&H (and PLAYDifferently) are very much innovators, Pioneer comes in and works out how to lower the price. This is progress and good for everyone. If you only need 2 channels then there are loads of awesome/cheap mixers out there just for you! This is a new category of mixers for artists that are running loads of gear onstage or performing with Ableton. Very cool stuff. Anyone that doesnt want a Model 1 + external audio interface, then this is a great option for you.
Thanks for weighing in :)
Thanks for your very detailed addition to our analysis, Reticuli.
There’s a -12dB master attenuation setting.
Also I suspect they did away with the channel Clip, because they have “64bit processing” now, so the headroom is probably well and above what the VU shows.
@@dsquareddan Is the -12dB master attenuation before or after the master knob, though? They only need a digital domain -10dB attenuation before the master knob (or I guess -5dB according to the knob labeling) and then a mic/line setting for the analog out itself for people who don't know how to properly use studio boards :-)
The only reason to get rid of the channel "Clip" word LEDs would be if the gain/trim stages are now purely digital domain and the ADC stages are fixed gain... i.e. the trim knobs now don't do anything to analog inputs going into the converters as on prior Pioneer digital DJMs.
Would work great for someone like yourself 👍
Many thanks
But how does it stack up against the Xone 96??? I've got the 96 but am drooling over this mixer! Thinking of upgrading!
Maybe we could do a comparison video :)
@@digitaldjtips Hey Phil... go for that V10 vs Xonw96 head to head video!
This is what Pioneer was doing in the lab. While Denon just launched an all out assault on them. This mixer will make the crowd forget what track is playing with all of those effects on top of it. Two different companies. One makes an extension of the same old thing. And the other makes new never done before things.
Denon just came out with a wireless portable standalone; they haven’t been sleeping either.

It's pretty whack compared to actually buying a live mixer and doing some real live type shit.
Not to mention it's a obvious Allen & Heath rip off with 2 extra channels.

They're basically the same
What's going on with the filter? You can't turn the knob to 0hz and leave the button on? Do you have to kill the filter for it to turn off?
Hmm, a compressor. Am I a legend for riding the trim knob(kinda doing what a compressor would do but manually, although not exactly the same thing) to match levels while doing open format sets where I'd mix an 80s track to a club banger?
PHAT DADDY the compressor is a dynamic range processor

I like how you used an RCA cable split into 2 and plugged them into the digital ports. it works...but it's not really meant for that. actual digital cables have a different ohm rating
We needed a solution at a push, and it worked fine for the review :)
actually they dont. 99% of rca cables are 75 ohm they just aren't labled as such. that's the rca specification. but cheaply made super long ones may end up with a higher impedance

Good review but it would have been nice to hear the perspective from a producer who does hybrid live DJ sets. The explanation of the filters, compressors, EQs and effects were a little weak.
The V10 is a beast, both good and bad in that respect!
Nice review!
Thanks!
Thanks for watching Pierre
Its really hard decision for me to choose between The V10 and the Model 1 from Playdifferently. 🤤
Digital vs analogue
I wonder when this will be available?
I'm seeing delivery dates in Feb in the UK at least
Its nice for a digital mixer.i mixed on it a few times, i wont lie as much as I like heath mixers, i still like pioneer. The fact they stepped up to 32bit is nice. I just feel its too big for my room man.. pioneer make a nice 2 channel with similar features. Like the old djm 909! I just wanna mix vinyl with some good send fx. 2 channel. And, add an oled display please n thanks
Maybe they will...
O own DJM 600 and love it.
Cool :)
Wow Mr phil you are pretty damn fast...👍👍i mean a few moments pioneer shows it new mixer to the world in it UA-cam channel and a few moments later you already reviewed the mixers...that is insanely fast..👍👍😁
Thanks ;)
Potentially a fair point but as you say that's down to the DJ not the gear :)
@@digitaldjtips You are absolutely correct. I dont fault the gear, it is the end user who is going to mess up. The only flaw I see is that there are too many options that can be accessed at the same time. Other than that, I would love to get my hands on one because on how creative I can be with my mixes.
What is your own opinion model 1 or pioneer V10?
We haven't reviewed the Model 1
All good points, but the tools are there if needed!
Wow pioneer really hit it out the park here
Nice one :)
Usual question : is this class compliant on the A/B USB ports ? Wouldn't spend 3K and depend on Pioneers' willing to update the drivers.
We don;t have the answer to that at hand, there were no specs with it as it was a pre-release model.
Guy, what’s the track that’s playing throughout the whole video????!
Looks very interesting.. would love to see this being used by industry pros and hear their feedback
Agreed!
Yeah I've got a good feeling this will be the year :)
Very nice compresor per chanel for older vinyl
Definitely!
Nice observations
Thanks for watching :)
Nobdy is doing an input matrix like the db4. To me the DB4 input matrix is a game changer.
Is that what you've got Sach? :)
@@digitaldjtips No not at the moment but the being able to have the same input on different channels with seperate effects, eq, filters, etc. Is a detail that seems very appealing to me because it adds the possibility to get into creating whole new compositions as opposed to just mixing records.
Hi Phil, how do +6 v10 mids compare to +10 mids of Xone 96 ?
We'd have to do a side by side comparison, maybe we will!
So now this has been out for nearly 4 years, and the DJM A9 a year, the price difference isn’t that much, bang for buck which has the better sound quality and best overall between the two??
One is an all-round club mixer, one a more specialised performance mixer.
I AM READY
We're sure you'll not be disappointed :)
