Dr. Melissa West, so so good to see you again after a decade of not being able to remember your name (besides other obstacles that I have been breaking thru) but hoping to see you again. This video is absolutely the best that I could have hoped for as using the strap support for getting my foot to reach the back of my head is a goal that I’m trying to achieve. Even at 65 years old I’m amazed at what my body can do now that I couldn’t ever even get close to when I was younger. So glad to be able to practice yoga at least twice a day every day.I have subscribed what a great day today is!
Wonderful, all of them but especially the boat and last pose. Once learned to hang my strap onto a door handle and then do downward facing dog. Namaste
@@drmelissawest This quote! 'When we remember we all share the same breath, we come to understand the connection binding us together, we are kin, we are walking each other home by helping and supporting one another'
PS thank you so much for the video on 4 nerve for stress and anxiety massages for vagus nerve. I had coffee!! I will be doing thise to come down a bit . The state i put myself in by having caffeine is not pleasant. I had stopped drinking coffee for a long time. Why did i , again ? Another lesson today
I've been teaching yoga for a little more than two years, and I am still amazed that I find myself in this role. I stumbled upon yoga after the birth of my daughter because my body was BEGGING me to do something, (anything!) and so I surprisingly found myself on a yoga mat in the middle of the gym one day. I had no idea that yoga would begin to change my life in huge, dramatic ways- all of which have been such a blessing- and I knew I had to share this gift with others. As a newer yoga teacher, I am constantly researching and studying yoga- through the ancient teachings, through different teachers, and through videos like this one. This was my first master's class to see of yours and I plan on becoming a member tonight to learn more along these lines. I have been searching for this information at a painstakingly slow rate, and I am ecstatic to learn that you have done all of this research already. What an incredible blessing- one that will not only benefit me but my students as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Amy so lovely to read this after you becoming a member. It's always interesting for me to read people's stories and to know and learn about their yoga journeys. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your your story. Namaste
Thank you for yet another "change my life" video, Melissa. What would I do without you? Seriously. Something about the asanas in this video has helped me develop muscles in places I don't have them and helped to strengthen my weaker left side. I have done this video at least once a week since it came out and it has been tremendously helpful and for that I'm tremendously grateful! :)
I'm happy that you found this video to be a life changer for you! :) That is interesting that this video helped you to develop muscular strength and balance. I'm so glad it has been so helpful for you! Thanks for letting me know. Namaste, Melissa
Yoga has always intimidated me. But, your thorough explanations and in depth poses have inspired me to pursue yoga. Thank you so very much for making this video.
Can you believe that in 8 years of practice I've been putting the strap on the arch of my foot all along? Thanks for clarifying that it should go on the ball. Wish I had a longer strap for some of these! One "kooky" variation I like is lying on back, make a big loop with strap, wrap one end around ball of foot and other behind occipital bones of skull (not neck!) with other leg extended to stretch neck & hamstring simultaneously.
Dear Bianca, I can believe it Bianca, I knew to do it and I forget sometimes too, it was something that I remembered when planning this class. I saw that variation that you were talking about when I was planning this class, sounds like a neat stretch! :) Namaste, Melissa
Hi Melissa, this class was interesting. Some of the poses even with the strap were too advanced for me - dancers and pigeon poses - whereas others I didn't need the strap at all. I like the way you give permission to use the strap as an aid rather than a cheats tool, it encourages responsible practice especially when doing it online like this at home. I feel like I need to do another class though after this one, as the class was more of a 'how to' / educational rather than a practice in itself if that makes sense. However, I'm glad I've done it as it makes me feel like a more responsible and informed practicer, especially given that I'm a newbie to yoga. Thank you xo
Dear Melissa, thank you very much for this class. Even I do not need for all asanas a strap, good to know, how to handle it!! And I know now, that I have to buy a longer one ;o)) namasté, Alfie
Thanks for the love Jen and thank you for sharing the teachings of yoga with your students in such a joyful and fun way, they are lucky to have you. Namaste, Melissa
Love, love, love this video. Was not even aware that I have a difficult time accepting support from others, (well, maybe a little aware) and do sometimes think of the strap as a cheat. This was a wonderful class to help us understand the connection we all have and how to get more out of some of the yoga poses that may be difficult to accomplish. As always, Melissa and Tim, thank you so much for your work and dedication to those of us aspiring to become better individuals and better citizens of this earth. My days are so much more blessed, or rather, suppose I am more aware of the blessings when I begin the day with your classes. Namaste, Karon
Dear Karon, I'm so glad you loved this video and that it unearthed some new awarenesses for you around receiving support. It is not cheating to receive support :) I'm so glad that you are enjoying the classes. :) Namaste, Melissa
Hello mam.. this was wonderful very nice information with yoga step. I am 55 year old and I have rounded shoulder , very stiff upper back so suggest me any video with yoga strap . thanks .... Please help Me.
Often, you say to use a belt from your bathrobe, which is what I did so I couldn't do some of the poses. Great class, just mention that you need an actual yoga strap for this class.
Nice class, I started last night but was tired so I finished when I woke up, but started the class over. :) I love using a strap, but I forgot it when I left my horrible ex's house...Anyways I made a strap w a sheet and it worked fine. Haha nothing better than yoga like this practice! I loved the "backpack". Thank you, Melissa :)
Sorry to critique but this was lack luster. Too slow getting to the moves, had to look at notes... we did this video for our yoga hour today and got a good laugh though when the bolster was tossed to you. The hour is precious so maybe step it up and get to the point quicker
this is the worst form of bound side angle I have ever seen!! Your torso is completely falling forward and down instead of having your top ribs facing sky and bottom shoulder aligned with knee.
+Sherry Hana You're probably right, I'm definitely not a magazine cover uber flexible yogi. I do the best I can and try to offer good instruction. Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment. Namaste, Melissa

Lol!! The same thing happened to me! I couldn’t remember her name and I’m so happy I found her again!
I love your style of teaching! You keep things real and accessible for everyone!
I appreciate that Paula! 🙏💜
Fantastic lesson for me who never wanted to use props! Wwll, i learned so much . Your teaching is right on target
@ceciledesjardins3333 thank you so much.
10:40 if you just want to get to the meat of this video. ❤Thanks Melissa!! 🎉
Thanks for the time stamp, this was an idea to do more of a mastercalss .... but people didn't really like that style on UA-cam, ha ha!
Wonderful, all of them but especially the boat and last pose. Once learned to hang my strap onto a door handle and then do downward facing dog. Namaste

Thank you for the class! I loved the quote at the end, please can you share with us who said it? Thanks!
Which one?
Maybe just write it in the comments and I'll see if I remember :)

Thank you very much, very practical and helpful session. In my case, I had to modify some poses using 2 very different straps.
Great job!
Very impressive Yoga class
Glad you enjoyed it David!
Thanks for this great explanation of the yoga strap Melissa :-)

Thank you. Loved these poses with the strap. Very therapeutic :)
you're welcome Samadhi :)
Dear Melissa,
thank you very much for this class. Even I do not need for all asanas a strap, good to know, how to handle it!! And I know now, that I have to buy a longer one ;o)) namasté, Alfie
Dear Alfie, Yes, nice to know the possibilities :) And it is great to have a long strap on hand for some of those possibilities :) Namaste, Melissa

Gosh, I love you, Melissa. I'm kooky too and when I teach, sometimes my students and I get hysterical. I love that about you!!! Namaste, Jen

Great Class! Can you tell us which mat you're using?
Thanks so much! It is probably a Dusky Leaf Yoga mat.
Namaste 😃😘🌷.

Often, you say to use a belt from your bathrobe, which is what I did so I couldn't do some of the poses. Great class, just mention that you need an actual yoga strap for this class.
Yes indeed Shannon, you're right, hopefully there were some in this Yoga Strap video that you could still do :) namaste
How long of a strap are you using? I have a 6ft strap and find it too shirt to use for more extended binds and holds like boat pose.
I have the one from Dusky Leaf...not sure how long it is...but it's longer than Tim and he's six feet...I'm guessing it's around 7 ft
How should I warm up for this streching sequence?
you could do yoga for beginners 101 on my channel :)

+Madeline H. Sicinski love that you were able to improvise! Backpack is amazing!
In trikonasana the strap is no longer in the ball of your foot but the arch, is that ok for that pose?
Hi Billy it looks like you caught me with a mistake. The strap should be over the ball of the foot for safety. Namaste
You are a cooky!
