- This Sunday, I reveal the before and after photos of the chateau's Grand Salon, and take you on a tour of the furniture, fabrics and objects in the room. It's been a long journey to get it to its current state!!!
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️ - Навчання та стиль
What a gift you are to the world. Every time I watch one of your videos I feel better and happier. Amazing decorating skills and beautiful singing voice aside, I can't think of a more wonderful talent than that of bringing light into the lives of others.
That's one of the loveliest things someone's said to me 😊😊😊
I totally agree!
Yes, the most positive Video Personality on UA-cam! Always Simply Delightful!
This is true. My thoughts exactly. And om top of everything else Stephanie is beautiful and so funny.
It's all in the details, I love the little cat prints in the tiles.
Me too 💛
I just watched the arrival of the panelling, so had to come to this vlog and relive your hopes for this room. Your family made this room sing. Come summer your cousin will install the panels, for a final crescendo.
Bravo.
The bust is of " Princess Ippolita Maria Sforza" by "Francesco Laurana" dated around 1472, Hope that helps.
You have done a magnificent job of renovating the chateau. It is also a bonus listening to you tell the story because of your perfect French. Wonderful!🥰
The bust is definitely 19th century probably could be described as 'Aesthetic Movement' or just renaissance revival, its clearly inspired by Italian Renaissance era women, I've seen very similar ones priced at 3-5k dollars. I particularly like the weathered look and the ornate designs on the sleeves. Edit: also, I think the one I saw was of Beatrice from Dante's Inferno which makes sense for the 19th century and love of gothic dark literature. I could imagine Lord Byron having a similar piece of decor.
Wow, thanks for all of that information. I'm definitely getting a strong Italian renaissance vibe, and 19th century makes sense for that aesthetic.
@@TheChateauDiaries Found a similar bust from the 1920s. This sort of bust seems to be made from the 1890s or so through the 1920s. Yours is certainly more 19th century and aesthetic/art nouveau than it is deco Also, Ophelia is another common inspiration. Yours I think is probably inspired by an Italian renaissance beauty, I dont know alot about renaissance art (I think Italian portraiture is hideous lol...except Simonetta Vespucci) at any rate here is the link. www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/sculptures/busts/pierre-louis-peyranne-french-art-deco-statue-circa-1920/id-f_15938772/
@@TheChateauDiaries www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/sculptures/busts/antique-polychrome-bust-princess-house-naples-berlin-circa-1900/id-f_6406393/ I think this looks very similar to the one you have. She is described as "Princess Of the House of Naples".

@@jeanineadele Thank you! I enjoyed researching it.
I love that concept that any given space is decorated like each generation adds to the decor. When I get the chance to start decorating my space I would live like the 1920s with victorian hand me downs. Love it
Somehow I missed this one, so watching it now! I wonder how Amaury is coming along with the paneling & “new” renovation with the old? Can’t wait to see it!!
OH I love the little paw prints being visible! That's what makes the difference and creates ambiance and character! oh lovely you had them to put down!
What a gorgeous room and wonderful narration…so engaging and interesting! ❤️
So enjoyable Stephanie - thank you 💛 Love all the details, from the luxurious fabric for the curtains, the sentimental & unique pieces of furniture, your Father's vibrant artwork 🖼👌 which adorns the walls & how special are those floor tiles 🐾🐾. Just magic 💫. The love & appreciation you have for your home 🏰 is evident and I believe tangible for all the fortunate guests who visit, (of which I shall be one 🌟 one day). Enjoy lovely lady - you have worked hard. Beautiful blessings Mandy 👑 SA
I very much hope you visit us one day!
Oh how I loved today's "tea" . Your room is magical, grand and whimsical! The tile floors with paw prints, your fathers painting the lavish drapery .The memories . You told it beautifully 😘 Thank you
Love seeing the Salon and how you have transformed it. Your work is amazing.
I have curtain envy, that fabric is gorgeous!
wonderful visit to your Grand Salon and all your loving memories. looking forward to much more to come.... thanks so much for sharing.
This is so interesting, you were so fortunate to have the tiles in the loft and to be able to source the others. Already looking forward to the next episode.
Your salon truly reflects all the love and taste you've poured into it. And its ceiling is magnificent. The bust is probably in some way one of the many descendants of Francesco Laurana's Eleanor d'Aragon - there's a generic resemblance. Your little chair is (you probably know) the bottom half (or third) of a duchesse brisee (a duchesse, just like la grande mademoiselle). Your father's paintings impress me more. every time you spotlight them - he was a particularly wonderful colourist. Many thanks for this, as always.
I've just looked up the Eleanor of Aragon bust and you're right, they're very similar!! Yes, I now realise that the little chair is part of a Duchesse brisse (probably 1/3, as you say), but in the early days here I was stumped by it!
How lovely and interesting! I enjoyed hearing the backstory on the items that you treasure. I also have stories that belong to my things. I think that it makes them so much more interesting and explains how and why you feel deeply about them. This was a very enjoyable video and I thank you for sharing it with us.
You have us mesmerised from your very first vlog. I love watching each and every episode. Thank you for sharing 🍾🥂
I’m late to this party, but the juxtaposition of the father’s paintings with the Grande Salon is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had such incredible art works. Besides, homes evolve and aren’t static.
Thankyou Stephanie, I love saving your video until I get into bed on a Sunday night. You didn’t disappoint us again, fabulous! Oh! to have such a large room. I think I enjoyed the fabrics the most, although I did love your father’s paintings.❤️❤️
He'd have been so happy to hear that people were enjoying his paintings 😃
Thank you! You and Lady Mendl. People add their own layer of living. That's what makes a house a home!
Who is Lady Mendl please?
It's really important to have these modern touches in an older home to stop the 'museum' thing going on, it's a home above all else. I LOVE the trompe l'œil panelling Michael did in one of the bedrooms, you could do that in this room although I think it looks great plain as it is because of the busy floor, the paintings and furniture. Thank you for sharing xooo
One of my favorite videos… Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful chateau with all of us. 🌸
It's my pleasure 💛
OK, I'm a fan. I love that you showcased the antique tiles with the doggie and kitty prints in them. Wonderful!
Good morning, it is Monday in the state of Vermont. 🍁 We are on a tour and I was so disappointed that Sunday was very busy and I did not get to see you. Enjoyed you blog as always even on Monday.
Thank you for bringing joy into my day. I utterly adore your curtains!!
I'm really loving all of this Stephanie the more we find out the more we want to know.As the wife of a builder and we've built three houses ourselves , it's jolly hard work and the dust well we're do you start . Looking forward to seeing the next one . Thank you 💕
Your & Michaels'
decorating skills
are magical!⚘
Absolutely beautiful and such wonderful furnishings and art!
The chateau is so fortunate it has you and your vision and patience. Like a classic car, the more you take care and honor something old, the more it gives back. Just as a side note - I absolutely love your father's paintings.
Love love love hearing your stories on the history of the items used to decorate Chateau Lalande
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Gaining so much from Sunday vlogs. Heartfelt thank you.
The greater the difficulty the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests.
Epictetus
Love the room and as usual could listen to you talk all day.love the look of the bust and the curtains
I too love the mix of modern art within the context of a very traditional and antique interior. It takes any potential stodginess out of the decor, makes it feel young and fresh. Love your style and you have done such a lovely job! Kudos to you from across the pond!
Thank you for your lovely videos your home is beyond beautiful!
I'm binge watching the Chateau Diaries. This is fantastic! You're so creative, Stephanie! Gorgeous taste. My favourite part is the paw prints in the tile. Xx

Hi, I've just discovered your videos and I'm completely bowled over. It lives up to all my dreams of the perfect fairytale. But it's real. How absolutely fantastic. I really admire you for restoring it. I'm sure the owners, who were at first hesitant about you buying it, are overjoyed by your loving transformation. I thoroughly enjoy every video. Thank you!
Fabulous room and equally fabulous story behind it ... looking forward to the complete story of the whole chateau by a great story-teller...
Absolutely enjoyed the walk through time, as you planned and carried out each step of the transformation of each of the rooms. Thank you for sharing the adventures of your life with us. You certainly live life to the fullest, and you take all of us right along with you. Blessings are set to God for you your Mom, volunteers and Celmar.all the way from the island of Puerto Rico USA.
Inspirational as per usual thank you
What a warm, inviting room you have created Stephanie. I personally love the mix of furniture from different eras and the tiles are a triumph. Your father's art is incredible and he obviously had wonderful taste. The bust is beautiful and I love the statue. I also have one purchased in France... but on a much smaller scale! 😉
I think it's Daddy's paintings that make the chateau! I wish he'd lived long enough to see them up on the walls - we'd just finished the major renovation work when he died, but hadn't started on the decoration. But at least he lived at Lalande with me, and loved this chateau 💖
Can't wait for the upcoming tours of your gorgeous home
😊😊😊
Am I the only one that just loves listening to this gorgeous.... classy... glowingly warm woman talking! just love it
Now a beautiful room! Great video.
I adore your dad's paintings! Each one is so beautiful and unique. He very much had an artist heart and I so appreciate how his spirit embodies them. His paintings are magical and joyful. This joy shines through you now. What a beautiful space. How wonderful that you have found your home. Thank you for sharing this beauty with the world.
Thank you, that’s the way I feel about them! They’re so joyful 💛
You are a joy Stephanie ...I love that beautiful floor ...what a huge room ....Stephanie I do have a statue in my lounge in Spain Of the Virgin Mary she has her own crate and moves with me she is from a Chapel in France....
Your Dad was/is an amazing artist! Wow!
You are my favourite vlogger. Thank you Stephanie
Love what you did. Looking forward for your changes. Bravo, bravo
I just love your fathers paintings! What a remarkable artist he was. I love all the different styles and periods of finishings. It really gives it a layered look of time and makes it warm and inviting. My favorite just might be the bust! She is gorgeous and looking over the room.
I'm glad you like the layered look! It's lovely to be surrounded by lots of memories.
Love love love your vlogs and what you have achieved in the decorating of your beautiful home is incredible thank you so much for sharing you always brighten my day xxxx
That's lovely to hear, I very much enjoy sharing Lalande with you 😊
I forgot to say that my very favorite things are the paw prints on the tiles. I'm a Potter and basket Weaver, and whenever I find a fingerprint on an old pot or sherd, I feel an instant personal connection with the piece and it's past. I just think of the dogs and cats that may have wandered across the tiles in times past. Gone, but not forgotten--🙏💗🙏
What a fascinating account , thank you .
I look forward to hearing all about the other rooms you have renovated.
Bit by bit I'll get round to all of them!
My new favorite vlog! I love seeing all the details, you've done a exquisite job !
Yay! The new favourite!!! 🥳
You have done an excellent job! I have been truly blessed by finding your Channel ❤️🙏🙏💕🙏👍🙏
I enjoy your vision!
I like that you are re-using the original fixtures and floors
This room is a big accomplishment. I like the ancient looking floor and the traditional ceiling combined with contemporary walls. The mix of furnishings is a hit too.
Hi Stefanie! I've been watching your vlogs in order and I'm loving it!! I discovered your channel in May.
I'm from sunny Malta. We're small and not super popular. Was in France last February and was talking to a French lady who didn't even know that Malta existed! Can you imagine my astonishment and excitement when you mentioned Malta and Valletta in this video?!
Love La Lande ❤️ I really wish to come one day!
I saw your blog for the first time last week. The first thing you said was that you were going to pick up a friend at the train station in Chatouroux. I was floored because when I was 2yrs old my father moved us to Chatouroux so he could work at the airforce base near by in Deol. We stayed 7yrs. Have fabulous memories of our time there. My mother studied voice there so it's great to hear the concerts and your singing at the chateau . I am truly hooked and would love to visit some day. Keep up the good work
Totally inspiring! Especially how you haven't been daunted by the huge task of renovating and constant up keep of the Chateau. You fill the Chateau with such good vibes with your lovely personality. Would love to visit one day ❤️
Thank you! That would be lovely!
Female bust: the one you have is likely a plaster made after the bust of (presumably) Ippolita Maria Sforza by Francesco Laurana (Frane Vranjanin) (ca. 1430-1502).
Laurana was "rediscovered" in the 19th century, so the bust you have might be one of the d'après Francesco Laurana from the end of 19th century onward. I'm sure you can look into it from here. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Lovely to see such wonderful finds. Your Chateau is truly a place of joy. I love your ideas of how it should be and how it all works together in a timeless capsule. I look forward to my looking-glass adventures and visits with you on Sundays at your beautiful Chateau. Some people just dream and then some people live their dreams. You make my Sunday with your joie de vivre! ~k
I love the thought of it being a 'timeless capsule' 😊
Thank you so much! 💞 Kathleen

Just came across your vlog and you have me hooked. Fabulous!!!!
Such a beautiful room and I also look forward to seeing the panelling that you bought from the Il St. Louis, or was it Il de la Cité, in place. The progress will make yet another interesting vlog.
Vlog on for ever Stephanie, much admired,
Swan
Really great design incorporates a mixture of pieces from all different times! Mixing furniture, art, metals.... it’s how you achieve an interesting, eclectic. You also use personal pieces, which lends a whole dimension of personality and familiarity. You did not just fill your Château with soulless pieces because rooms had to be filled with something. Expensive fabrics combined with second hand furniture.... very cool. What you have done is perfect, your home is wonderful, and getting better all the time! You’re a great designer.
Thanks for showing us that beautiful room. It looks beautiful. You have excellent taste that you obviously inherited from your artist father.
Stephanie, the glass bowl behind the sofa with the Chinese Lanterns in it is so pretty. It gives such nice proportion to the sofa's in the salon. I really like what yo did with that room and the tile floors. It's very comfortable and inviting.
Your hair looks fabulous here, Stephanie
Charmant, inspirant... Merci de partager avec nous votre parcelle de paradis. Au plaisir
!
C'est mon plaisir! Merci beaucoup 😊
Hello Stefanie, I watched your blog movies this weekend all at once.
I loved it , you ,the Chateau and all the people around you.
Maybe you could tell us more one day about the lay out off the Chateau. Where every room is situated. ???.
I bought a house in Spain, also planning on living there. So I can use every tips and tricks.
Love Nicolas from Holland.
