I am a retired Hospitalist physician and a lifelong asthmatic and for past 5 years have had COPD as well. I have been on one of the combo steroid/beta agonist inhalers for over 15 years and need nebulizers several times a week. I started daily NAC several months ago and stopped needing my rescue inhaler and nebs, then I stopped my combo budesonide/fomotoral and I remained clear with a less of a cough. and increased exercise tolerance. I could sleep at night without battling my wheeze. Stopping the inhaler is not anything I would recommend to any patient, but apparently much of my asthma is secondary to chronic inflammation of my airways. As an MD, this med as mucomyst was something I only used for acetaminophen overdoses. Its underutilization in pulmonary medicine is likely due to being too cheap to make a profit off of. I wonder if my pulmonologist will believe me, but asthma is a not very subtle disease and you are always aware of your breathing and for me the improvement was dramatic.

If I have trouble breathing then come back to the VA Emergency Room. I started doubling down on NAC along with selenium. Basically spent 3 days on my couch with a bad flu, then full recovery.

Of course now the FDA has been sending out letters to retailers to stop selling NAC based supplements ! Amazon and many other large retailers have pulled from the shelfs but you can still buy it online. Have I had Covid 19 pneumonia and a concentrated form of NAC was given to me in the hospital as well as prescribed for several days after. I read and research about medicine in general. So, I was very familiar with NAC. So, when Covid-19 hit hard early (1st wave) in early 2020, I decided to think and come up with a plan. And, NAC was first in my list. So, I run to my usual health store looking for it. To my surprise, it was not there. I asked the pharmacist and he led me to the same spot only to find out it was not there. He apologized and suggested to comeback the following week. Then, went to other stores - not there either. Came back following week to the original store, it didn't show up. Then, I got suspicious and dug deeper...so dig deeper! They had no reason to pull it out of shelves unless....

I would try another brand could be something else in the Nac. Even the empty capsuls..Had to take something back to. health food store as capsuls were very old and tasted terrible..Thank you for warning others.
I think its wise to be cautious when taking anything new.

Maybe it’s causing a heavy detoxification. This can cause rashes on the skin. Maybe try lower doses and build up over time.

I had COVID in Jan 2021 and my body was still going through the after effects all the way up until this year. I lost too much weight. I still had a chronic cough with on and off severe mucus build up. I had blood tests , X-r ays, CT Scans. Couldn't find anything. I was taking Mucinex, I was even eating healthier... garlic, turmeric, etc. Nothing worked. When I saw a video on NAC. I immediately bought a bottle and my mucus has completely solved. I went to the doctor the other day and I found I gained 5 pounds.
