My near to blind armenian grandma used to make them for us.....can you imagine the love and feeling of pleasure/duty flowing out of her heart. My mom also was a great busy cook.
Thank you for being here, Dimitra. I miss my Mom’s cooking. My Mom was from Samos and my Dad from Andros. She did a lot of Greek cooking, especially when company was coming and holidays. I am learning so much from you. 🩷
I miss these so much. My parents were from Χανιά. This was a Sunday classic. With enough made to bring to my Aunt’s place later in the afternoon. I always kept my eyes peeled for the last few that were more fried dough with whatever mix was left 😅 Thanks for the throwback, Dimitra! Hope you’re having a good weekend. Stay safe :)
Can’t wait to make these! Looks delicious! It’s nice to see you cooking with your daughter. Helping my mom and Grandma is what Always kept me in the kitchen...making great memories!♥️
Thank you so very much! This is the first time in 20 years that I managed to make good dough for this. Even though I cheated and mixed it in the food processor, it still came out better than all the other recipes. I used a bag of kale I had and some frozen spinach and ground some dill seeds as I run out of dill, and added mint and onion and lemon and it was great. This is a gift to us and much appreciated.
I always substitute leeks for onion( I was force fed them as a child). My Dad was from Corfu and I love watching and learning from your channel. Thank you for posting these delicious recipies x
I like these Hortopitakias and will try them soon, there is so much commonality in Mediterreanian cuisine and best is olives, feta, the greens and herbs, all so good and delishious. Your daughter is a lovely child, helping mum. Thanks for sharing.
This was delicious, Dimitra. I made it for my dad, whose been making pites his whole life, and he was very impressed. It reminded me of the pites I used to have in Greece, during summers in my youth. Nicely done.
I always enjoy your recipe. You are such a great cook. Your daughter is cute and funny. It is a great idea to make her share the video with you. Have a wonderful weekend & Enjoy
Dimitra, I love all your recipes and the presentation of them. Very clear and I like the options that you provide. I have made a few of them. They come out perfect. Thank you for making all your videos!
TY sweet Dimitroula mou! I'm gonna make these soon. I gotten so much stuff from the free grocery pickup pantry where I live. I saw 2 bags of kale and took them to boil them for over 20 mins and then freeze them.. Stay safe!
I love that you brought out those scallions! I don't know how many times I have had green onions that look like that hanging around the fridge and wondered whether or not to use them.
This particular episode was so enjoyable. I loved that your daughter was there helping. She's got a great personality and she brought out a softness to you. Not that you're hard at all, but you were so much more relaxed and enjoying yourself and clearly having a good time. I love to see that.
Spring came early and so did foraging season I can’t wait to make this with wild greens. I know common wisdom says don’t deep fry in extra virgin olive oil but I’ve done it successfully and it tastes amazing! Maybe don’t use the expensive stuff though 😂
Hi Dimitra! Another way to make them is with sweet mizithra cheese, diosmo (mizithropitakia) and pour honey on top. Mizithra and honey is a fantastic combination. Maybe you can use another type of cheese that you can find there. Kisses from Crete!
Dear Dimitra, my name is Mina and I just discovered you on UA-cam and I’m so happy watching you cooking! I will be watching you making all your delicious cooking with great and easy instructions. YOU are great and making cooking so enjoyable - THANK YOU & keep up with your great cooking 👍🤗

Fascinating glimpse into the kitchen of a cagemaker for a canary. Can't you buy fresh veg in Texas? I wouldn't feed that scallion to a skunk 🤩. ... Anyway I am sure we can cooperate without the discord we have always experienced before and I will make do with my selfikopitas thanks! Best wishes to lv
Dimi, I love you, but you gotta stop scraping the board with the sharp edge of your knife… please use the blunt side of the knife to scrape, so that you don't dull it. (And so you don't drive crabby old men like me crazy... It's almost as bad as leaving the bathroom light on or messing with the thermostat; our kryptonite!🤣)
Hmmmm…. I don’t have the proper appliance to get that dough thinned out right. So I might have to pass on this recipe. Good news is we have a great Greek restaurant close by and I bet they have these on the menu.

@E Gashi It is like that...the divinity lies in the essence, and not in form or context. It suffices to understand, at one point or another, in TIME.
I was already thinking, "I love this video," then the music started 16 minutes in... now I am hooked.
Sweet princess you have .
God bless your family 👪 🙏
Traditionally these don't have feta. But, we are going to add it to this recipe. We add feta to everything. 😀
YES!
CUZ FETA MAKES IT BETTA!

Yes... I’m thinking adding browned ground lamb to make a well rounded dinner dish with Tzaziki and a lovely Greek salad!

Dimitra, my Indian girlfriend loves Amaranth (vlitha). Try an East Indian supermarket, you might be able to find them there. I love the pites.

Looks delicious but please keep that dirty bag off your cutting board. The outside hasn't been triple washed. 😉
Hmmmm…. I don’t have the proper appliance to get that dough thinned out right. So I might have to pass on this recipe. Good news is we have a great Greek restaurant close by and I bet they have these on the menu.
