Haha indeed, well that is why I am thankful to have such a great community that corrects me. 😀 Seriously, thx a lot. I tried to find the name on Subnautica wiki, but failed to do so, so I assumed they were its babies. Love the 2.0 update and am considering on playing it again. Subnautica is one of my favorite games of all time.
@@SurvivalJoe The Ghost Leviathans in the Lost River are in fact the "babies": They are juveniles and are smaller than the Ghosts that are above surface.
@@mordret103 And in the Grand Reef and the northern Blood Kelp - these are also adults, not juveniles, and unlock the adult Ghost PDA entry when scanned. Some people claim that the adult Ghosts in the void are actually larger than the adults on the map, however I did not find any confirmation for that and using console commands it is only possible to spawn one version of adult Ghosts as far as I'm aware.
If you're looking for the deep and safest way to build a base it's Tree Cove All the resources you need are there, Just build a Thermal Plant in the side and you're good to go Just make sure you bring some normal kelp, blood kelp and acid mushroom seeds (So you can farm them) along with Prawn Suit and Drill Arms (Since most of the ores can only be mined with Drill Arms) and you pretty much have everything you have It's also the safest way to charge your cyclops with the Thermal upgrade without anything attacking it Seriously, This biome is the safest way and most efficient way to build and gather resources, You don't even die on the brine and the inactive lava zone is just right infront of you if you are looking for Kyanite/Sulfuric Acid
I'm replaying Subnautica and on my previous game I had a secondary base near the tree cove with a bioreactor and a farm with plants to power it. Later on I added a nuclear reactor and had energy for the rest of the playthrough.
Completely agree with this. On an end game note, once you have activated the teleporters there is a teleporter location pretty close to this which is easy to navigate in the situation that you need outside resources (or need to visit surface locations for other resources).
I agree, it’s the best building in there. But, as far as the lore goes, it probably wouldn’t be so great, because if the Ghost Leviathan egg hatched, your base would probably end up something like the last Degasi base. (Fortunately, it never hatches in game, so it’s quite safe). And it’s only easy access to two other biomes and no easy access to the surface. (You’ll have to get past a leviathan each to get to the two nearest teleporters). Bring lots of exploitable plants from other biomes for farming, because it won’t be all that practical to go foraging for more.
I usually build one there, not only because it's safe, but because it's kind of the last stop before it gets too deep for the Seamoth. Actually the floor of the cave is already too deep for the Seamoth, and my moonpool tends to be elevated halfway up the cave with the base being lower down.
1:45 You can heal your infected fish in the aquarium - catch a Hero Peeper (the ones carrying the enzyme) and put it in your containment. That will heal the infected individuals in your tank. Here are my Top 6 favorite locations: 1) Giant Cove Tree cave. This shouldn't surprise anyone - it is just a beautiful location and has a lot to offer as well like lots of nearby ressources, thermal vents for lots of energy production and just a nice soothing ambience. It is also the safest entrance to the Lava Zone - the other entrance might be easier to reach but is also a lot more dangerous: the upper end is patrolled by a Ghost and the lower end is patrolled by a Sea Dragon. 2) The South-western Grassy plateau close to the drop to the Sparse Reef. Lots of space and I just like the view into the vast green waters of the Sparse Reef. When building here I usually end up with a huge base just to cover all the beautiful views surrounding it. 3) The westernmost tip of the Save Shallows. To the west you have a good view over the Dunes, down below you can look upon the Mushroom Forest and there's also a Kelp Forest nearby - just a lot of variety and gorgeous views all around. 4) The mountaintop in the middle of the Mountains biome. There is no better place to build a Reaper observation base - the Mountaintop has the patrol routes of three different Reapers in sight. It can be a little bit dangerous to build the base because the easternmost of these Reapers occasionally comes very close to the top of the mountain, however it is totally worth it. 5) The thermal vent at the deeper wreck in the Grand Reef southwest of the Floating Island. Thermal energy, Sea Treaders nearby for ressources and it is easy to expand the base a bit so that you can build an observatory to watch the adult Ghost Leviathan that patrolls the area. It also offers easy access to the Lost River through the Deep Grand Reef. 6) This one might surprise a lot of people but I like the area for some reason: The western Crush Zone Mesa. A Reaper is patrolling the area, oftentimes diving deep to attack the Stalkers and occasional Bone Shark (the area is close to the border to the Crag Fields and sometimes move into the Crash Zone) and then darting back up to the top of the Mesa. There are also some Gasopods and I had the really funny experience to see the Reaper attacking a Gasopod and then dying in the poison cloud - that was hilarious. The area also offers a surprising amount of ressources and plenty of space, the view is not the most gorgeous though.
Lots of very nice locations, thx for sharing. Of those you suggested I would have picked the number 2 as the one i would think about exploring although the mountaintop certainly looks intriguing
I like to keep two of the basic aquariums somewhere, one with infected peepers and one the curative peepers. For the ambience, of course. Infected variants of things just look cool.
One other location I would recommend is just next to lifepod 12. I built my base there on my previous gameplay and it was really great. Plenty of resources, lost river entrance nearby, beautiful view (bulb zone). It’s also a zone where it is often dark so you can enjoy the bioluminescence. Also, the lifepod 12 is located next to a heat area.
I didn't know there was a Lost River entrance in that part of the map. I thought they were all in or near the Grand Reef. I know the spot you're talking about, though. Nice thermal vent for base building in deep water. Bit dangerous building inside the Bulb Zone, but I guess just raise some native fauna in alien containment, and release them to chase off hostile creatures.
literally just built there 5 seconds ago. Built on that rock that I called pride rock (like the one from lion king) plus the caves nearby have cool things in them.
The kelp forest is also a really nice area too. Placing an observatory towards the bottom of the biome and when you look up it looks like you are looking up in a forest. Very relaxing especially if you put a ton of fish and remove the stalkers from there. I highly recommended downloading the decorations mod from Nexus mods for additional immersion.
@@SurvivalJoe The modding community for Subnautica seems to be adjusting to the death of qmod and are slowly updating things for Bepinex. I'd suggest taking a look at The Last Bacon's video "Subnautica Modding Just Got An INCREDIBLE UPGRADE!" Decorations mod, custom posters mod and a few others will really open up your options.
Subnautica is one my 2 best games of all time (the second being Batman Arkham Knight). My favorite base location is, of course, the Giant Cove Tree. The music, the colors and the environment are all perfect there (I usually play survival). But I usually build my second base in Safe Shallows. I like a base that is close to the surface. Sunlight makes the environment look stunning. And the developers made a great day/night cycle. This adds to the impression of a base in Safe Shallows.
One of my favorite things about Below Zero was the weather effects, especially the rain penetrating the ocean surface. When you build the large room near the surface like you're saying, you can look up through the glass and see this beautiful display during the rainfall. And in general with both games, I love putting a bedroom at exactly the halfway point between surface and ocean. When you look out the glass, you can see everything below and above the water. It's a little difficult to measure out perfectly, so you kind of have to wrap the entire base around that concept to get the height just so but it's worth it.
Bonus points for the Mushroom forest: the only Leviathans that Spawn are Reefbacks, and in the particular Mushroom forest you showed (where I built my first base) I only ever encountered Jelly Rays, despite there being Boneshark eggs. Making it potentially a perfectly safe biome to build in. Plus the Bulb Zone isn't too far away, so you can build thermal plants on the thermal vents there and link them to your base, and you also have relatively easy access to the lost river due to there being an entrance on the edge of the bulb zone. AND that Lost River entrance also connects to the Inactive Lava Zone.
So many playthroughs, so many bases. My top 5 are probably; 5. A crater that I found that has a cave leading to an alien outpost. Not sure which biome, but I think it's in the Sandy Dunes. I called it Reaper base because a Reaper swims above and occasionally swims down. 4. The entrance to the Lost River that is close to the Floating Islands. 3. The Mushroom Forest near the Aurora. 2. The edge of the Void, building downward along the cliff face. 1. A promontory that is situated really close to the Floating Islands, a Mushroom Forest, a Red Grass area, and is above the entrance to the Lost River. I like the area near the blue tree, but I build there in every playthrough and it has become a little boring.
My favorite place is on top of the large arch that sits about 150m down near the Quarantine Enforcement platform, where the kelp forests, mushroom forest, bulb zone, and mountains regions intersect. That's my surface base, and then my deep dive base is in the Tree Cove. Good variety of resources, power options, and view, and your own personal Leviathan just far enough away to observe from time to time without risking his wrath. I named him Bob.
@@marsar1775 Man, Bob migrated like 300m on my most recent save, from harmlessly over the volcanic exhaust cones to right over my straight path to the biggest Lost River access. It was most uncool of him.
Cove tree is my favorite base location, too. I built a base at the higher entrance, so it had one moonpool above 900m for the seamoth, then vertical connectors going down to the floor for the rest of the base. It's at the depth threshold for some vehicles/upgrade levels, it's beautiful, with special music, it's safe in a dangerous area, it's near a path to the lava zone, it's in a nice central spot for a scanner room with range upgrades to get good coverage, and there's geothermal for power. In the lost river, instead of the gargantuan fossil, I went by the sea dragon skeleton, since there's a small brine "waterfall" there. In one save where I did a no vehicle challenge, I had a Grassy Plateau base that actually extended down into the Jellyshroom cave right by the abandoned base, to get air. Grand reef, I also like a vertical base going down to the lost river entrance. Mushroom forest, my most recent base was on the cliffs at the border with the Kelp Forest, because I like it sitting on cliffs, and it gives views from several depths. It's also close to one of the hidden alien arches, so once I got that activated, finishing the last steps of the main quest didn't require piloting a sub all the way across the map, just hopping through portals in the Prawn suit. I frequently build at least small bases in the Mushroom forest to scan for lithium and cyclops fragments. I've also done a vertical base in one of the Blood Kelp trenches, with the top in an area of empty sand, and the bottom in the dark trench. Nice creepy atmosphere, and close to a reaper for some extra fear. One of very few times I've used bioreactor power.
I personally built my main base in the grassy plateaus but when I realized I was going to spend most of my time in the lost river (it was late game) I knew I had to figure something out. So I build my base in front of the huge gargantuan leviathan skeleton. I had a beautiful view of the skeleton and I named the ghost leviathan near by spot. It was nice! Thinking of maybe replaying soon!
Your number 1 is another favourite of mine too. I build higher up. I start with a moonpool a tube at one of the bases of the small hills, mine on the left side of the room coming from the LR passageway. I then build vertical connecters up to where I want and build a lot of my base stuff there that offers a nice view looking down around the area and just above the top of the tree or level with it. Great spot!
Giant cove tree : best location! good looking area + heat source energy nearby + access to a huge variety of rare ressources nearby + perfect middle stop for exploring endgame content!
Only thing that makes me feel just a bit sad about treecove despite it being absolutely stunning location is the fact that it's bit hard to build a moonpool there that doesn't look weird and that isn't floating above everything else and without supports. Well that is only the case with if you are building the moonpool specifically for Seamoth as you have to be super mindful of the crush depth as it is just on the edge of the 900meters which is deepest you can go with Seamoth. The way my moonpool worked in my past base was that every time I exited the moonpool with seamoth I would cross 900meters for a few secs until ascending to safe depth. It's a shame it is just on the edge of the crush depth lol
I was able to make mine above the depth enough so that when you get shot downwards in the seamoth you don't hit the crush limit even for a few seconds. But yes it looks weird as it's attached by vertical tubing with a ladder and that's it. However it's extremely nice being able to just dive down into the water and swim to the main entrance or swim up rather than walking through the base and even using the ladder. There is benefits of having a freakishly high moon pool but esthetics is the downside.
Your third base is not in the STP, its in the Grand Reef (Sea Treaders are found in both biomes). Ah, and you chose a pretty dangerous spot, because its close to the adult Ghost spawn point. Ghosts are not that bad, but adults can deal huge amounts of dmg to the Seamoth, especially when they bite and ramm you at the same time, and the results of such attack are obvious x)
Great video man! I’ve copped subnautica on steam because of the sale recently and now own it on every platform. Ive got my base between a kelp forest and the grassy plateau near the entrance to the mushroom caves. Its been a great spot to build!
Your #1 is also my number 1. There's something relaxing about that area... The colors? The sounds? I like there are thermal vents for clean, easy, unlimited power. But poor Seamoth.... One not on your list is the Grand Reef, on the border with the Sparse Reef where there are, I think, three thermal vents. More for convenience than views.
The trick with the grassy plateau is to build low close to seabed, and wrap your base around the spires. If you get a chance to get a reefback above that is just bonus :-)
Treecove is my favorite location for a second base. Its right next to some vents so you have a good power source, you don't get attacked when farming your exterior growbeds, and its pretty.
I made a base in the Grassy Plateau in my latest playthrough, using large rooms. It was the one with Lifepod 17 in it, on top of two jutting rock formations. Two large rooms sitting across from each other, with a moonpool in between them. I had growbeds on a plateau next to the base, and a scanner facility on another plateau near that. It's definitely a nice place to be, with basic resources above ground, while magnetite and shale outcrops are in the Jellyshroom caves. It also borders a bloodkelp biome that leads into the Lost river, so it's a smooth transition downward towards the end of the game. I've built bases in different biomes, and enjoyed them, but this might be my top spot for convenient linear progression. I do still like my beach home in the mountain, though.
I love this game. I got it when it was free on PS4. The ONLY game I've got a Platinum Award on. I have *Base 1* behind the Aurora in the Grassy Plateau near Wreck 15. It's powered by the thermal vent there which is nice. From there I go to the Grand Reef where I have my *Main Base* powered by the thermal vents there (it's about 400meters away from the Degassi Base, with a Warper and a Crabsquid between us) it's my main base cause I've been collecting and hatching Crabsquid. From what I've seen, they will attack EVERYTHING except a Ghost Leviathan! I have *Base 3* around the floating islands but I haven't been back there since it was built (I put the Nuclear Reactor in the Grand Reef base) and today I built a load of lockers ect on the Cyclops just so I can move all of the materials and build a new Base around the Ghost Tree. Tip..put search lights on the glass roof (on the thick line through the middle) Hatch a load of Crabsquid, they protect you* and attack EVERYTHING except a Ghost Leviathan... I've released 8 near Wreck 15 and the Biters and the Sand/Bone sharks around the area are all gone..they respawn but end belly up very quickly *If you're being attacked, flash your lights at them to get their attention they come towards you and then ZOOM towards the threat. They WILL attack your Cyclops though
I always end up building in the grassy plateaus for some reason. I just really like the red grass and the reefbacks I guess. My current base is on a cliff face between the plateau and mushroom forest on the northwest side. I plan on moving into the lost river eventually but haven’t decided exactly where.
My first base was in the Plateau right next to the Kelp Forest and Sparse Reef and my 2nd was in the middle of the Lost River It's an amazing area as it has access to all exits, takes a relatively short time to get to the waterfall portal and the 4-5 thermal vents there provide 70-80 degree temperatures for your thermal plants It's a beautiful area with an abundance of resources and with all of the minerals there I've managed to build a full base with 1 large room, 10 multipurpose rooms, fully upgraded scanner rooms in each tunnel etc. without getting past 2 trips to my main base My base is 3 multipurpose room towers connected by tubes, large rooms and other accommodations that surround the Gargantuan Juvenile skull. I think it's the best area along with Tree Cove
I can't believe you did not include the Bulb Zone, at night it simply cannot be beat. A particularly good spot to build is between the wreck and Lifepod 12, near a large bulb bush (closer to the wreck than the Lifepod), because it is close to the large bulb bush (it looks awesome at night, with the Cyclops parked just above it) and is close to an undersea thermal vent for an endless supply of power. If you build a small stop-off base near the wreck at the limit of the Solar panel (200 meters, or thereabouts), the spot is down to the right near a natural arch and the thermal vent, and you can use the temporary base to top up your O2 levels as you build your main base and explore the wreck, as well as safely reach and return from Lifepod 12 (albeit with the need for Fins and a High Capacity O2 tank). The only downside is the local residents (Bonesharks, Mesmers, and Ampeels) are particularly aggressive, making the early part of the build a bit of a chore, but once you've established a good foothold they tend to leave you be. Once you have an Alien Containment built, the offspring from two Peepers released around the base will keep any hostile fauna off your back whenever you venture out, just remember to keep releasing them. Added to which, a quick swim to the surface brings you out near the Mountain with an Arch to the Floating Island, the Quarantine Enforcement Platform (on the Mountain), and the Aurora (you emerge between the Mountain and the Aurora). A good tip is to build an exterior grow bed with 4 Brain Corals it creates a very useful O2 passage to the surface, as swimming directly up from there will see you get constantly hit by bubbles of O2 making it so you do not need any breathing apparatus to ascend, which is essential if you are undertaking a minimalist swim-only run with no O2 Tank or Fins (having four counters you not being able to swim directly upwards). Also, if you head North from the Wreck there is a Cyclops friendly drop off to the Lost River and all that is below, just watch out for the Ghost Leviathans on the way down. All in all, it is one of if not the best spots to build a base, especially if you are planning on completing the game.
To be fair i re-started to post recently. Also this is my second channel focused more on survival games. My main channel were I was doing mainly Let's Plays is @GrunfWorks
Got the game last night and played for 5 hours straight. I'm 34yo and that's my first survival game! Absolutely amazing and I'm just about yo build my first mini base, but im a bit clueless 😂
Deep in the underwater Islands right before you get to the blood kelp zone. 300ish meters. Water is crystal dark blue. Beautiful spots with tons of operating room and vies. Plus there's a leviathan over there, too.
I have one. My sea treader's path base is at the base of the large cave entrance under the end of the sparse reef biome. Its not too close to the Reaper a few ups away and up near the start of the path in the dunes biomes. It's really close to the blood Kelp trench (my favourite entrance - even with a cyclops to the LR). the area is a large flat area that borders the crator's edge, so can offer a nice view of the super sized ghost leviathans if you build out there. Completely safe to go there. It's my new favourite location for a base since the update. It's right near the path too so unlimted shale. From the centre of the map, the starting point, it's Three clicks right of SW and Three left clicks of W. With a depth of 300m or so.
Building on top of the giant mushroom tree doesn't offer so much in the way of views, but it's the one place outside of Safe Shallows where you can get solar energy comparable to Safe Shallows.
I lean towards the Sunbeam crash site. It is the darkest place in the game. So I see it as a challenge to bring light to the most forsaken location on the map. What is nice is the near endless supply uranium inside the caves to fuel the nuclear reactors, which in turn power the vast array of lights to brighten even the most black of areas. The only threats are the two warpers that patrol the zone, and the annoying reaper that won't shut up!
Creative mode helps, as you can experiment without consequences or material cost. I am in the same boat with you creativitiy wise, but given i had no cost, i could play around and experiment. Give it a try, if for nothing else then for just figuring out which design works for you :-)
I'm currently building a base right at the roots of the giant Mushroom tree in the western Mushroom Forest. You really inspired me with your Idea of the large glass dome :)
@@MyH3ntaiGirl I liked the structure and the little caverns beneath it. At first I also thought about building on top yet I wanted to align it a bit more to the terrain
I chose to build my large room base in the blood kelp zone that’s connects to the floating islands. I then chose to breed ampeels and crab squids to populate the area with some more fauna to view out the window.
i completed both subnautica games and got all achevements had a couple of bases the final one was near the end just above lava biome near the big alien base
i get that you love those locations an they are awesome! i do think so myself, but. Get me a base that overlooks the abyss just before the fall, a new take on the aurora, a magma base, a recreation of a film, a reference, an original in the kelp, the one no one asked for in the safe shallows, an habitable aurora!, take your time! i love this game and i know you do do too! cheers! and keep it up!
Aside from the base in the Grassy Plateaus, I find the locations rather spooky, especially among the skeletons in the Lost River. I can still make friends with the Tree, but I wouldn't really feel comfortable there either. Of course, I'm only talking about bases primarily for "living"; I would indeed build purely functional bases wherever it makes sense, also next to a skeleton, if it has to be, but preferably not. 😂😘 Great video nonetheless!
The grassy Plateus are definitely my favourite, funny how I never tried to build there But some of these areas might be difficult to pull of in survival mode😅
I managed to build a base at the Lost River junction as a stop-off between the surface and the lava caves. Bit of a nightmare, every time you add a new component you need to reinforce or everything starts leaking. Doable though.
I've actually built 4 based in survival one of them is in the Giant Tree Cove( I also put the Cyclops there too) one in the Lava Zone and the other in The Safe Shallows and The Floating Island
Did you know that the giant blue balz in the tree are actually ghost leviathan eggs. its not confirmed but if you look at the size and the inside of the bal you can see a baby of sort.
I actually built a base in the bottom of the dead zone I don’t know why I just think looking at the ghost leviathans is nice and I did the same in below zero I just like looking at them i guess
I like to build mine in front of the main containment facility. Remember The Incredibles scene where Mr. Incredible waits for Mirage in a meeting room with lava in the background? That.
My first big base was in the Grassy Plateau, on the edge of the Dunes. I think the best part about it was that I accidentally made it perfectly 69 meters below the surface. I could also safely keep an eye on the nearby Reaper Leviathan from the confines of my base.
Just to notice: planting a Tiger Plant (00:47) near your base will damage it over time. (i think you didnt notice that because the Creative mode...) ;-)
Holy Diver You've been down too long in the midnight sea Oh, what's becoming of me? Ride the tiger You can see his stripes, but you know he's clean Oh, don't you see what I mean? I actually have my base in the dunes where there is a reaper there is a common glitch where if you finish building a hull reinforcement part as soon as you finish save your game and leqve the game and join back you get a god mode base add as many stuff you want noyhing will happen even if the reaper does something nothing will break
Sure, why not. Ultimately it's what works for you that counts. In this video I was trying to get some places that look awesome with the glass ceiling :-)
The sea dragon is 112 meters (336 feet) Giant skeleton you see is the gargantuan leviathan which is 5280 meters(15,840 feet). According to my calculations those are 2 very different numbers🤓
I still dont fucking uderstand why am i the only one who uses grand reef - kelp forest border as a place for main base its clearly the best as it has almost everything you need in early to late game in close proximity, that cliff is just too good
I personally enjoy setting up my base on the surface of the Gun/Floating Islands. I set the Gun Island Base on the side with the beach opposite that of the Reaper for easy access to the Alien Base and Mountainside/Portal, and then the Base on the Floating Island in the Central Cove where the "Rendevouz" Beacon is located, giving it a secret base style feel while also giving you access to the rich flora of the island.
@@wherewiiwentwrong Awesome suggestion, thx for that. Do you know that in the last 2.0 update you actually got the "Surface" hatch that was originally in 2.0. Also i think there is a ladder attached to it.
My favorite place to build is in the Kelp forest. A lot of green plants swaying in the water and if you build shallow enough a lot of light also. The only problem is is that there aren't a lot of locations where it's possible to fit the large room into. It's a more suitable location for the multipurpose room.
@@SurvivalJoe theres a mod in the works called return of the ancients that brings it back form the dead we dont know when its gonna be released to the public

If you're looking for the deep and safest way to build a base it's Tree Cove
All the resources you need are there, Just build a Thermal Plant in the side and you're good to go
Just make sure you bring some normal kelp, blood kelp and acid mushroom seeds (So you can farm them) along with Prawn Suit and Drill Arms (Since most of the ores can only be mined with Drill Arms) and you pretty much have everything you have
It's also the safest way to charge your cyclops with the Thermal upgrade without anything attacking it
Seriously, This biome is the safest way and most efficient way to build and gather resources, You don't even die on the brine and the inactive lava zone is just right infront of you if you are looking for Kyanite/Sulfuric Acid
I'm replaying Subnautica and on my previous game I had a secondary base near the tree cove with a bioreactor and a farm with plants to power it. Later on I added a nuclear reactor and had energy for the rest of the playthrough.
Tree cove is the last on my list. I love it.
I love how much bigger everything suddenly looks when youre inside a habitat looking out at the scenery
1:45 You can heal your infected fish in the aquarium - catch a Hero Peeper (the ones carrying the enzyme) and put it in your containment. That will heal the infected individuals in your tank.
Here are my Top 6 favorite locations:
1) Giant Cove Tree cave.
Fully agree
I didn't know there was a Lost River entrance in that part of the map. I thought they were all in or near the Grand Reef. I know the spot you're talking about, though. Nice thermal vent for base building in deep water. Bit dangerous building inside the Bulb Zone, but I guess just raise some native fauna in alien containment, and release them to chase off hostile creatures.
@@chadnorris8257I should probably build a base in the bulb zone next playthrough.
literally just built there 5 seconds ago.
Thanks for the tips!
@@furiousapplesack Thx for the suggestion, will check it out
Do the stalkers respawn??
Both are beautiful, immersive and amazingly rendered open worlds. Two favorites of mine as well
Bonus points for the Mushroom forest: the only Leviathans that Spawn are Reefbacks, and in the particular Mushroom forest you showed (where I built my first base) I only ever encountered Jelly Rays, despite there being Boneshark eggs.
So many playthroughs, so many bases. My top 5 are probably;
Aye that is a good location. Say hi to Bob for me will ya ?
hows bob been
@@marsar1775 Man, Bob migrated like 300m on my most recent save, from harmlessly over the volcanic exhaust cones to right over my straight path to the biggest Lost River access. It was most uncool of him.
@@jonas8bam that is indeed most unkind. at least you can stasis them in timeout iirc
Couldn't agree more!
But it's too deep..... I..... can't go deeper......
I dont like the large room glass ceiling, it's blue for no reason. Doesnt fit at all
For me it kinda works for now
Feel u. Maybe there’s a mod for that?
I agree, however the multipurpose room glass dome looks positively deluxe
@@toothpastegobbler4434 Yes, I love it
It protects your eyes from Ultra Violet Radiation 🥺
There's a mod that adds two more levels to the depth module crafting. It's a must, imo, for this very reason.
Wow, I did not know that. I thougt it was in STP. Thx for pointing it out.
noticed this just a bit too late but i still might just make my base here so i can have one of those observer points to look at the ghost
Great video man! I’ve copped subnautica on steam because of the sale recently and now own it on every platform. Ive got my base between a kelp forest and the grassy plateau near the entrance to the mushroom caves. Its been a great spot to build!
Yepp best one :-)
Your #1 is also my number 1. There's something relaxing about that area... The colors? The sounds? I like there are thermal vents for clean, easy, unlimited power. But poor Seamoth....
One not on your list is the Grand Reef, on the border with the Sparse Reef where there are, I think, three thermal vents. More for convenience than views.
In subnautica, I chose the grassy plateaus as my main base, as there is TONS of open space and good - Ok scenery
I agree
Amazing, I finally found the perfect place for my base :D
Tip..put search lights on the glass roof (on the thick line through the middle)
Hatch a load of Crabsquid, they protect you* and attack EVERYTHING except a Ghost Leviathan... I've released 8 near Wreck 15 and the Biters and the Sand/Bone sharks around the area are all gone..they respawn but end belly up very quickly
*If you're being attacked, flash your lights at them to get their attention they come towards you and then ZOOM towards the threat. They WILL attack your Cyclops though
My favorite area in Sea Treader’s path is the massive cave there. Perfect for a base and very cozy.
I always end up building in the grassy plateaus for some reason. I just really like the red grass and the reefbacks I guess. My current base is on a cliff face between the plateau and mushroom forest on the northwest side. I plan on moving into the lost river eventually but haven’t decided exactly where.
My first base was in the Plateau right next to the Kelp Forest and Sparse Reef and my 2nd was in the middle of the Lost River
It's an amazing area as it has access to all exits, takes a relatively short time to get to the waterfall portal and the 4-5 thermal vents there provide 70-80 degree temperatures for your thermal plants
It's a beautiful area with an abundance of resources and with all of the minerals there I've managed to build a full base with 1 large room, 10 multipurpose rooms, fully upgraded scanner rooms in each tunnel etc. without getting past 2 trips to my main base
My base is 3 multipurpose room towers connected by tubes, large rooms and other accommodations that surround the Gargantuan Juvenile skull.
Pretty good bases. Well done! :)
My top places:
1. Void
2. Crash Zone
3. Dunes
4. Mountains
5. On Lava lake in lava zone
You are a brave man sir :-)
You are braver than brave to choose the void as your first top place. Next to it being the crash zone.
Can't believe you have such little subs! Glad to be one of your 372 sub you're contents great!
10/10 video man! Loved it
Good one, will check it out
It's funny to me that I'm watching this on new years of '23 going into '24, exactly a year after it was put out. It still holds up. :)
Not crazy at all. Check my latest video. Found a game that is almost as good as subnautica
There’s a large area in below zero, in the northeastern sector of the map, about 200 to 300 meters down, my absolute favorite area
Man I wish I had this creativity when it comes to building bases
Creative mode helps, as you can experiment without consequences or material cost. I am in the same boat with you creativitiy wise, but given i had no cost, i could play around and experiment. Give it a try, if for nothing else then for just figuring out which design works for you :-)
I'm currently building a base right at the roots of the giant Mushroom tree in the western Mushroom Forest. You really inspired me with your Idea of the large glass dome :)
Yea you will enjoy it ;-)
Why not build on top?
@@MyH3ntaiGirl I liked the structure and the little caverns beneath it. At first I also thought about building on top yet I wanted to align it a bit more to the terrain
I chose to build my large room base in the blood kelp zone that’s connects to the floating islands. I then chose to breed ampeels and crab squids to populate the area with some more fauna to view out the window.
Wow, now that is an idea worth trying. Thx for sharing
I usually build my base in the lava zone; there are places there that aren’t directly policed by the leviathan.
Those aren’t baby ghost leviathans in the lost river, the ghost leviathan there is a baby ghost leviathan. The ones in the void are the adults.
You are right, but how are then the other fish called. The small ones ?
@@SurvivalJoe river prowlers
@@officialgSync aaah right. Thx. Well now i know :-)
@Charlie E The Ghosts in the Grand Reef and the Blood Kelp are also adults.
Great video, thank you!
my favourite was the grassy plateaus but i changed my mind when i went there because i was always hearing a reaper
i completed both subnautica games and got all achevements had a couple of bases the final one was near the end just above lava biome near the big alien base
i get that you love those locations an they are awesome! i do think so myself, but.
Thx. Overlooking the abyss is the stuff of nightmares. You are brave, kind sir :-)
Good stuff brother!
Appreciate it!
Thank you
hahaha I remember how long ago I built the base on the lost river) Like for the video. It is really beautiful to live among mushrooms!
Indeed it is
The grassy Plateus are definitely my favourite, funny how I never tried to build there
But some of these areas might be difficult to pull of in survival mode😅
I managed to build a base at the Lost River junction as a stop-off between the surface and the lava caves. Bit of a nightmare, every time you add a new component you need to reinforce or everything starts leaking. Doable though.
I can imagine
I've actually built 4 based in survival one of them is in the Giant Tree Cove( I also put the Cyclops there too) one in the Lava Zone and the other in The Safe Shallows and The Floating Island
Damm this is beautiful i just started playing this and i wish i can build something like this
Did you know that the giant blue balz in the tree are actually ghost leviathan eggs.
its not confirmed but if you look at the size and the inside of the bal you can see a baby of sort.
I actually built a base in the bottom of the dead zone I don’t know why I just think looking at the ghost leviathans is nice and I did the same in below zero I just like looking at them i guess
Some great ideas!
Very helful video, thank you.
I like to build mine in front of the main containment facility. Remember The Incredibles scene where Mr. Incredible waits for Mirage in a meeting room with lava in the background? That.
Yup, I am definitely playing Subnautica wrong.
Subnautica: UNDERWATER HORROR SURVIVAL
Me: Building my main base in the middle of floating island
My first big base was in the Grassy Plateau, on the edge of the Dunes. I think the best part about it was that I accidentally made it perfectly 69 meters below the surface. I could also safely keep an eye on the nearby Reaper Leviathan from the confines of my base.
Nice job bro
I builded my first base between the Grassy Plateaus and Mushroom, so i think it was a big W
That is nice
Just to notice: planting a Tiger Plant (00:47) near your base will damage it over time. (i think you didnt notice that because the Creative mode...) ;-)
True. It is easier to show off things in creative. Thx for letting me know
The bones in the lost river are not the remains of a great dragon but the remains of an ancient Leviathan called "The Gargantuan Leviathan"
If you want to cure the kharra from the tanks, pick a sparkling peeper out of the alien vents an put it in there
I love my Grassy Plateau base, but I will say this... the eternal groaning of the reefback leviathans gets OLLLLD lol

Lol I’ve been building giant bases in the dunes, bloodkelp, lava castle, grand reef and all of the dangerous biomes
Sure, why not. Ultimately it's what works for you that counts. In this video I was trying to get some places that look awesome with the glass ceiling :-)
How do you keep biters from spawing in your containments and eating all your fish at the grassy plateau?
I have a question
What power source would be the best for the giant cove tree
Probably nuclear or bio reactors
Reasons for both
Bio: lots of fish
Nuclear: lots of uranite
I built my base nice and high up above the seabed in the grassy plateaus. I didn’t use the large rooms though.
They are pricy. 2 Plasteel ingots. But worth it IMO
Always place my base near thermal vents. Unlimited power!!!
Good call
The sea dragon is 112 meters (336 feet) Giant skeleton you see is the gargantuan leviathan which is 5280 meters(15,840 feet). According to my calculations those are 2 very different numbers🤓
I'm surprised that people haven't come up with a indoor pool inside of your base.
Guys I might build a base in the sea treaders path. Any advice? Are there any resources that can’t be found there (other than plantable plants)?
It is called "The Grand Reef" not the deep reef
if you like to build i recommend using the base legs removal mod from nexusmods it´s just 10x better than without
Hmm, sounds interesting, might look it up
I disagree - the legs look cool in my opinion.
I still dont fucking uderstand why am i the only one who uses grand reef - kelp forest border as a place for main base
its clearly the best as it has almost everything you need in early to late game in close proximity, that cliff is just too good
Thanks
We need all the base pieces from BZ to subnautica
What are your favorite locations for setting up a base in Subnautica ?
Will you make top 5 best base locations for subnautica below zero?
I personally enjoy setting up my base on the surface of the Gun/Floating Islands. I set the Gun Island Base on the side with the beach opposite that of the Reaper for easy access to the Alien Base and Mountainside/Portal, and then the Base on the Floating Island in the Central Cove where the "Rendevouz" Beacon is located, giving it a secret base style feel while also giving you access to the rich flora of the island.
@@EMPTYSODAAACAN I am definitely thinking about it.
I am replaying the game just for the upgrade. I just wish they added the control room as well.
I started creative for the purpose of this video, ended up playing for fun on survival :-)

Can you connect Cyclops to your base so you can just open a hatch to go back and forth? I forget now.
As far as i know you can not
@@SurvivalJoe Do you ever start with your base shallow and just keep adding onto it until it's like 1200 meters? I did that on my PS4. I forget most of the game tho and playing it thru on my Series X. Thanks for the reply, Joe. I hope you survive.
The fourth one is genial, since See Traders are diging resources as they walk. You would never be in shortage. Just genial :-)
What can I say. I like to employ the locals :-)
That Jelllyshroom cave entrance at 1:05, do you have the exact coordinates for it?
The exact coordinates are in the video description. But ingame, there's also a sunken lifepot nearby. 6 maybe?
Can you do a tutorial on the first base
I might do. Currently i am busy making similar video to this one in Below Zero as requested ;-)
Which grassy plateau is the first one???
Me who builds in front of the aurora and the lost river near the Dead Sea dragon. Because I like danger.
These are all very cool, but the REAL challenge is to build huge bases in Survival or Hardcore mode. It's the only way to live.
Yea and i did build some when i was playing it, bit for the purposes of the video i usually use creative :-)
@@SurvivalJoe I get it. You did a nice job.
