- On July 30, 2003, the last of the 21,529,464 Volkswagen Beetles built since World War II rolled off the production line at Volkswagen's plant in Puebla, Mexico. It was one of the 3,000 Ulitema (final) edition units, and the baby-blue vehicle was sent to a Volkswagen museum in Wolfsburg, Germany.
How cool would it be to have a few of these assembly line guys for our next restoration 😂!!
Its ashame everyone wants modern cars I'd like then to make the old bugs again unsure if they wud sell but still kool

Such a sad day. The demise of quality parts as well as cars. Would have loved a tour of an active factory making class cars. Thanks for sharing and have a great week.
I toured the FMC factory, making Bradley Fighting Vehicles. That was a sight to behold, Bradley's on an overhead conveyor. Giant milling machines, etc...

Hi, In the UK, when I was younger ,we have a thing called class of 89. We undertook younger bugs and made them look older. It is actually a 74. But am so thrilled you feel it’s older. I even put older floor pans in. I suppose all VW fans have their own quirks which makes us all great. You take care.@@louiejonesponation
@@mikek4708 that’s actually really misleading (in a good way). Looking at the windows, I’m suggesting it was made to look like a 1965/66 model year Beetle. Where my family lives, there’s a 1971 Beetle made to look like a 1967 model year Beetle. One of my friend sent me a photo of a 1971 or 72 Beetle that was made to look like an Oval Bug. My Dad’s dream car is a 1957 Oval Bug, he could do something like that to his current Beetle (the one in my profile pic), but like me he is a VW Purist and cringes whenever he sees a heavily modified Bug (I’m even worse, I can’t stand None Air Cooled Engine Swaps).
Well I own 2 1970 bugs one July of 70 the other august & was wounding an appropriate day to celebrate there 53rd birthdays, now I know...

i couldnt believe they built this old 1930's design even after i was born. very few updates were made but if you saw a 1999 mexican bug on the road you would think it was actually built in 1971.
Kind of neat to think that the old Beetle was still in production when they brought out the new one
Now think of this, the Golf was it's replacement.
I would like to see the Air Cooled Beetle put back in production, so I can buy one!
Could you imagine how fast you could knock one of these things out. Just Cal-looks and resto customs everywhere.

It never evolved to keep up with safety and emissions requirements.
Actually the Bug evolved a great deal. The last Bugs were injected, catalytic converter equiped, and had many safety features added since it was first made.
@@davidgenie-ci5zl you mean seatbelts? We are not taking about the New Beetle which is not a Beetle.
@@bngr_bngr Dished steering wheel collapsible steering column, brighter lights, more lights, dual circuit brakes, brake warning system, side impact protection, stronger bumpers and mounts, larger brakes, padded dash, high back seats, etc.... Lots of improvements for safety.
I wish the classic Bug was completely open to manufacture world wide by any company (open source so to speak) and could be sold to it's core spec in the US. As something to provide a baseline economy car that nearly anyone could afford to own. All the extra stuff added to cars these days raise the costs to the point where new car ownership is out of reach for many.
Why did they even stop making these best Car ever and they still are better than some of the Crap that's out there right now. broke a lot of Hearts

What happened to the machinery equipment that made the parts and are there extra parts???
Were these later models still air cooled? Such an iconic car that stuck around for so long!
