    Face your fears, live your dreams....and at some point, before every fight - fear automatically turns into anticipation!

      @Michael Mckenna wrong mindset! for example i'm a pressure fighter, i love inside fighting ... that's MY STYLE. I can do that best! I don't care what the other's style is, it doesn't matter to me, because I'll force my style on him ... he should see how he gets along with it. i'm doing my thing. No matter against whom!

    I think every fighter goes through this. Before my first fight I seriously considered faking an injury. I was on deck and was to fight next. . I feared losing in front of my friends and family more than anything. I told my coach i had to use the restroom, which sucks because you have a cup on and very hard to use your hands even in 4 oz MMA gloves. lol Anyway, I threw up, and heard my opponents music. In the end I got in there and ended it very quickly. Winning is one of the best feelings and you can't wait to do it again. It got better as the fights went by but i was always nervous before every fight.

    Craig 46 yo. Had a fight after school once just stood there took a few punches to the face. I didn't seem to be able to move. I knew there was other threats of bigger guys also thumping me. Shook up, it were over. Embarrassing.
    Recently I went out of shape out of condition.
    I had strong interests in Martial arts before I practiced alot.
    Recently I been watching "Mighty Mouse UFL" Back yard fights.
    6 month now full body work outs for just hour odd per day feels alright.
    Now I'm glad to have found you. Enjoyed your literature.
    Mighty Mouse mentions that foot work is more important than sparring. I came across your footwork film I love it very much. The phone seems a small place to see your coaching and the battery life to catch up everything seems far off. I don't think I could complete because injury for knowing nothing how to fight.
    I'd like to know how to fight I can train. I appreciate it.

    In general for all boxers it is a strange complex because you want a fighter to be hungry to win and not to have any doubt in their head. But you dont want the pressure to be all about the win because if they do lose, they think it is a penultimate moment and there is no redeeming the lose(but there always is). Young boxers especially. You just have to enjoy your boxing.
    Great POV tho Fran this will help current boxers and settle their minds. I believe most fighters think and feel a similar way before a fight.

    That was a fascinating discussion. You hardly hear any commentary on the psychological aspects of preparing for and participating in a boxing match - particularly in high stakes boxing. Fear comes into play in every endeavor of life - whether taking an exam in school, going for a job interview, or competing in athletics. It's nearly always a fear of failure. But being an extremely dangerous sport, I've always wondered how much of a fighter's fear is fear of losing, and how much of it is fear of possible serious injury, or even death (over 500 boxers have died in the ring since the advent of modern boxing, with the latest death occurring in 2020 in Italy). In any sport injury certainly is a possiblity, and all elite athletes know you can't compete effectively if you're worried about injury. But no other sport, though, has the ultimate objective of rendering your opponent unconscious, or at least causing him such great physical pain that he cannot continue (e.g., from a liver shot). I would imagine that every pro boxer is at least subconsciously aware they are actually putting their life at risk every time they climb thru the ropes. So it would be interesting to learn more about how a fighter mentally prepares himself to overcome the general fear of failing in combination with the fear coming from knowing the mortal risks he takes when stepping into the ring. Perhaps you'll do more videos focusing on the mental and psychological aspects of being a boxer.

    Hey this was so on point. It was not only soooo accurate but in dealing with the visceral feeling of fear it wrought so much emotion. I love the part of Mike Tyson's experience with fear as candid as he was on the feeling. This really reminded me of my time fighting. And it is true not only for boxers but wrestling and mma. I remember walking into whatever room it was; locker room, gymnasium, office, etc.. and weighing in and being probed for possible health concerns. You are nervous and emotions are surging as you watch all the other guys around you weigh in. ANYONE even remotely around your weight... you become very aware of them and size them up. Guys would shadowbox afterward and try to seem fearless, dangerous and on their game. Personally I had a strange way of dealing with my fear. My wrestling coach didn't allow this and somewhat my boxing coach but my mma coach let us use whatever worked for us. I fell a sleep. I just fell a sleep until about 15 minutes approximately before I would have to compete. My nerves were gone and I did a very light spar. I figured that I have prepared. Fighting is my job, its what I do and do very well. If I do my job, I will win as I almost always do. Its just another day at the office. If I fail, then its something that we didn't cover in training well enough and needs to be addressed.
    This was so good to listen to. It brought me back to those days.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. So, so valuable. So much of it is fear of loosing, especially in front of friends and family. Reality is that it is a 50/50 chance that you may loose. My coach always said to have confidence in your training, that you prepared well. I also suffered from fear of getting injured. After tearing my ACL during sparring and being in rehab for a year, it’s hard to forget the risks you take while stepping in the ring. Hard to watch teammates loose and how to hard they take it. Nobody knowing what to to say or how to help them deal with the loss. Thanks Fran for shedding light on this subject 💥🤗

    Brilliant. Where were you in the late 1990s when I needed to hear this? Would have helped so much. I took no comfort in “he is just as scared as you are” I remember actually thinking “maybe I will get into a car accident on the way to the tournament and won’t have to fight” If you are a young fighter that is yet to compete. I can’t stress enough what he said about preparation. the fear is bad enough as it is but if you skipped your road work and thought you could skirt by on talent you will pay the price mentally leading up to the fight.

    Hello Coach Fran.
    I have been boxing for 2-3 months. But i always have the problem of overeating and craving before and after training. Since you're a boxing trainer i thought you maybe have any idea. I recently started a high protein low carb. I'm 14 years old and turning 15 next month. I would also like to ask, what i can do in my spare time to train more for boxing? I train 3 times a week with 90 minute sessions 🙂
    Thank you for all yours videos aswell 😄

  • @PhoenixProdLLC
    @PhoenixProdLLC 4 роки тому

    I liked this video a lot! It's a solid topic for sure and I've noticed in my travels not nearly enough coaches understand or create plans for handling stress of competition, recovering emotionaly from a loss, how to handle success even. We just throw people in the arena and lights and expect them to figure out it, which makes NO sense if you really think about it. But it could be trainers are not taught that aspect of coaching and indirectly will undermine the success of their own fighter. Which is just...dumb.
    On the heavy bag swing..it's ok if you're pushing it around on purpose though right? I do think my bags probably still swing too much. The uppercut bags especially after a couple of left hooks. If the persons head moves after you've hit it, why would the bag moving after you hit it not be good?? I like pushing the heavy bag around like you're turning your opponent to set them up. I get bored with drills sometimes.

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching, and yes, we coaches can sometimes skirt around some of these key psychological situations...always good to try and address the nuances. On the bag swing, it's that old thing of punching the bag as it moves away from you so that it swings excessively. Doesn't mean you are punching hard, just means you have a rudimentary understanding of momentum. I've sure you've seen those guys from time to time :-)

    Fran, have you heard of the Evnik high speed boxing simulator.. It supposed to as the name suggests speed up punches and correct punching technique.. Apparently invented by the Russian father of the young girl who's appeared on tv called Saadvakkas who punches at crazy speed..
    If you have, do you think it works..?

    Fran. how hard should one punch during a light sparr session between 12 year old n 16 year old.

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  4 роки тому

      I think some spars between clubmates can be competitive, but punches should not be thrown with 'venom' if that makes sense? I regularly remind our boxers to 'take the juice out of the shots'. Damage can be done in sparring. Just my way.

    Can you please explain the mike tyson stace and the different between normal and how can we throw a power eight hand becose the bach leg with mike was not at 45 degree?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  4 роки тому

      Tyson used to adapt his stance at close range to go more open (square). This stance at close range allows more power with hooks and uppercuts. So, he had a more conventional stance at longer range and squared up at exactly the right time.

      Oh he had more conventional stance at long range i just translete that right now that's is what i was asking for so if he was standing at long range by his stance he would'nt throw power cross thank you very much man you are great ❤❤❤

    How do you effectively fight an opponent with good footwork ?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  4 роки тому

      Bit general that Jay. If they like to box off the back foot, bringing them forward onto their front foot can be a little less comfortable for them

      I agree with Peter Fury. Most difficult shot to throw and most difficult to defend, you just need to keep slipping, head off the centre line. There is a block, but it's difficult and opens risk up for hooks coming your way.
