Les Paul's arrangements were exceptionally good. Many groups and many individuals recorded the same songs but Les Paul's arrangements really caught the listener's ears in a pleasant way.

It was all of his and Mary’s innovations and Les’s techniques and electrical knowledge that made him the “Father of the electric guitar.” They will always be missed. I am so grateful I could literally see his early innovations at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
I will soon turn 77 years old, and I have this very faint memory of seeing this live on American Bandstand as a teenager. Les's slide with his thumb on the upper side of the fingerboard (last couple of seconds before the end) just triggered that memory.
