Really solid explanation of some hella confusing topics - and you didn’t have Margot Robbie in a bathtub to help so props.
You hinted at it, but an important part of this topic that wasn’t emphasized is that most of the techniques *are* legitimate and useful when used responsibly. The classic forex use case is an exporter that wants to get paid today on products they sell overseas; they’re willing to take a little less profit for cash in hand that they can spend today. Likewise for automated trading (only effective with a timing advantage and significant capital) and short derivatives (as a method to hedge some of your losses if an asset you hold loses value). “Signals” are either BS or felony insider trading though.
The fiction is that some dude in his mom’s basement is going to follow a web guide and beat institutional investors that can afford math savants and $100M bets.

If an influencer or finance guru is selling access to an "unbeatable" investment strategy, people like you giving them money is the real investment strategy. They're either scamming you directly or leaving you as a bag holder to cash out their own investment. Even institutional hedge funds rip off their investors for profit but at least they try to do it in a way that's mutually beneficial.

Good ol' fashion Work, saving money in FDIC insured accounts with decent interest rates, paying off debt, not overpaying on real estate, or avoid buying dumb expensive sht .. is the way to get ahead .. slow and steady wins the race

As a Nigerian, when I see Nigerians as the main propagators of these scams it makes me sad and disappointed because the whole view of "Nigerians are mostly scammers" really does affect everyday Nigerians looking for better opportunities in foreign countries like the US or the EU. It's sad honestly; what makes the whole thing worst is that incompetence on behalf of the government has basically made the whole situation unmanageable.

This subject goes completely over my head especially since I have math dyslexia and a GED but I'm smart enough to know that you don't need a college degree to know that you don't get something for nothing and that if something sounds too good to be true than it probably is!!!!

One thing I always notice is that your likes to views ratio is much higher than other channels of a similar size. That implies a much more invested and interested audience. You’re doing something right man.

@@CamJames I can personally attest to that sentiment, although I might be biased because I am from the metro atl area as well. I also think you have a practically uncapped market potential because it seems like most of your viewers right now are already financially literate but maybe aren't aware about the topics you discuss, however there is a whole other large group of people who will still want to learn in the future and your content will be there for them.
that's the hope! it makes my job harder every time but we're trying to create easily accessible guides to each topic with all the crucial info you need in one spot. not always possible to condense into an episode but we're always trying.

Hey your finance major here, I want to stress how in most cases these instruments are used for hedging (protection/insurance) by big institutions and there are many ways to be “short” other than short selling (as you mention the credit default swaps)and there even ways to stop the unlimited losses for if the underlying goes up. For traders there’s a lot more that goes into the trade other than just price moving up or down for example volatility. The attractiveness of these instruments is the leverage they provide for cheap so most people are better off avoiding them especially if they don’t know how they work and don’t have the same resources as the institutions. Trading is not investing, and most people are better off being investors
The whole financial industry is basically just collecting fees for moving someone elses money from one place to another.

The reason why its becoming more common in places like Nigeria is lack of regulations like you said but also lack of financial literacy, desperation in a country where people are trying to escape poverty by any means necessary ( if you don't have money in Nigeria, you might as well be dead) and lastly, the absence of consequence. The bigger the crime, the more likely you are to get away with it. If you steal a phone, you might get beaten to death literally but if you can steal millions of dollars, you're definitely getting away with it.

One of my favourite movies is The Big Short as well, the way they break down difficult concepts and make them something anyone can grasp greatly increases the impact and reflection on just how incompetent various organisations were with the stock market. Gotta remember that no matter what you can always blame financial down turns on poor people... and teachers.
The fact you're following a similar structure in breaking FX trading down is reflective of the fact that this channel is going places, quality content like this truly does feel like mining for gold and to present it the way you have only serves to benefit every kind of community. This is the kind of impactful research and presentation that is sorely missed in the modern day.

@@CamJames do you find restricting yourself to once a week uploads inhibits that in a way? I would contend that while in the immediate future a scheduled upload probably does more to appease the UA-cam algorithm Gods, but your long term could certainly open you up to delving deeper into the deep dives you do on a not so strict weekly timeline. Don't come out of this feeling like your best right now isn't enough, identifying and eventually resolving places where you can do better is a net gain for you and the audience 🤙🏼
i think i recently freed myself by introducing a new series for random releases, and i'm getting editing help to make these longer without increasing my overall workload. those key changes should pay dividends immediately.

Yea, shorting is just taking advantage of an inevitable decline. Everything will decrease in value over time before rebounding. It's a natural cycle.
i mentioned that distinction, and there's an argument to be made that you're contributing indirectly (not saying I'd make it, but some have)
