    This game is actually relaxing with all the colors and the sounds the blocks make. I do wish that there's a version where they were translucent, and glasslike. I think that would make it even more interesting to see cause I watched a lot of 3d renders of translucent 3d objects. Also a "jelly" physics would be nice. I want to see hypercubes with a gelatinous texture so not only do they change 3d shape as they bounce across the w-axis, but they also wobble and jiggle which I think would be a nice touch. The money I used to buy this hopefully supports the developer to continue this project or create a similar one.

    • @Yeah_You_Thought

    This explains exactly why there is no 4th physical dimension in our world otherwise it would become usual to see things dissapear or come from nowhere when they intersect with our reality. in the dynamic world we live in, don't tell me this happens and no one saw nothing.

    • @2fifty533
      @2fifty533 Рік тому +19

      thats not how it works, this game isn't a true representation of 4d, it's impossible to make one
      this is just a projection of 4d objects onto a 3d space, which is why all the disappearing and reappearing happens
      if you could actually see what living in a 4d universe would look like then none of that would happen, but of course that's impossible because ours is only 3d, so a representation like this is the best thing we have

      No, in order to fully watch as a 4-dimensional being you would need to be able to stare at a cube, just a single stare and instantly notice its 6 faces all looking like squares, with all of its sides of equal lenght and all of its angles right angles, in a similar way of how you can look at a square in a sheet of paper and instantly notice its 4 equal lines and 4 right angles.

  • @b4ti1c
    @b4ti1c 4 місяці тому +1

    I think what could improve this even further is to provide a simultaneious projection of multiple 3D slices of 4D objects. Like, split your 16:9 screen to 20 squares, and in each square traverse set the value for 4th dimension from a range. All 20 squares depict same scene, but at different 4D depths. Therefore when a cube "disaapears into 4th dimension" in square 1, it should be popping up in square 17 for example. Watching your interactions this way could provide invaluable intuition

There's an imposition set upon space which is unchanging through time because it is fixed on a certain w coordinate different from our own and so we don't get shit like that and see it as a ghost. Edit: Looking back, I don't like this comment. It feels rather unoriginal and causes confusion, so I'll add something legitimately constructive:
    Remember that while Time is the 4th dimension of our universe, it is not a spacial dimension (a directional dimension that's easy to travel on like up/down, left/right). The idea that I'm referring to is a universe with 5 dimensions ( the standard X, Y, and Z axis + time + the 4th direction of a W-axis).

Sure, my thoughts are to keep the GUI 2D, but basically it's an 8 bit-ish style game, where you have a line of pixels and the color of the pixel indicates what is there. A black pixel might be a pit that you have to dash across, a brown or yellow pixel is an enemy you attack, and there are ground pixels and a player pixel.

    as other people have said, this is actually one of the best videos i've seen on the topic. way easier to understand when you realize that you can't actually "see/visualize" the 4th dimension no matter how hard you try. But you CAN conceptualize knowing that the cube isn't actually disappearing or changing shape, just the part of it you can't see is extended into the W-Axis and the new part that you can see came from the W-Axis into your point of view (probably at W=0, where our 3d plane exists). This is way more interesting and makes a whole lot more sense too when you see them as a solid. All the other videos make the tesseract etc with wireframes which seems like it would helpful but actually makes it more confusing.

      For example, try to imagine a mountain, but it's getting higher and lower when you move along the w-axis.
      The mountain we see would be our "slice" of mountain.
      So if we combine all the versions of the mountain, we have a 4d image.
      But this is just something I made up when pulling an all nighter so I don't know about the accuracy

      It's a 4th spatial axis: you can't imagine it and neither can I, our brains aren't capable of it. We can deal with left-right (x), up-down (y), and forward-backward (z). The objects in this video are, as well as moving in those three spatial axes, also moving through a fourth - But just like the imaginary being on a 2-dimensional plane can't see or imagine a 3rd dimension, we 3-dimensional beings can't see or imagine a 4th. You can describe it mathematically, but you can't display it in a way that makes sense to humans (yet!)

    To me, this is absolutely fascinating, but it is also very difficult to comprehend. For what I gathered, after watching other videos on the matter as well, one can see the 4th dimensions as a place where an object has all of its possible shapes stored/represented in. A 4D sphere might have any diameter variation between a minimum and a maximum diameter.Inside the objects is a collection of vertices and the many ways this vertices are connected to each other is stored in the 4th dimension. By moving back and forth thru the dimension, we can visualize each of said "ways of connecting vertices", and thus the various possible shapes.

A 4th dimensional being could theoretically see in 3D (all sides of an object at once) while living in a 4D world, by this logic.

    4:15 in orden to visualize a 2d projection of a 3d object in a more 3d-ish manner, we use a light source and shadow / shades , the former existing in the 3d dimension, the latters in the 2nd.
    So why not doing just this but shifting one dimension up? Either in a 3d environment where we can navigate around the 3d projection and see the different shades and shadows corresponding to the 4d light (as changes in the color of the object), or in a 2d projection of the 3d projection (just like onscreen 3d modelling) but the light comes from the 4d instead of the 3d (so we loose the visualisation of the 3d light but it's for the sake of visualisazing the 4d one)

    You say, that for 2d person it's not possible to see 3d objects, but as we can see 3d objects can be visualised on 2d screen thanks to tricks like shading - imitating perspective. Wouldn't it be possible to visualise 4d objects the same way - by shading, or showing wireframes of object in next iterations of 4th coordinate? I'd love to see that and would be very grateful if you could show it to us!

      For an actual 2D being to be able to see that projection entirely, it would have to be able to see "inside" the 2d image that is created. Same for us, we would need to be able to see inside objects. Although it would probably look a bit messy, I guess we could use a transparent material to represent it. It would be an interesting thing to try

    • @BlindManBert

      Tobiasz B - The computer graphics and mathematical term for what you are referring to is called “projection”. The term “slicing” refers to what is done in Miegakure and 4D Toys, in that you are literally taking an (n-1)-dimensional slice of the source object along a plane (in the case of 3D to 2D) or volume (in the case of 4D to 3D) or hypervolume (in the case of higher dimensional slicing). That much is intuitive.
      The way to think intuitively about what projection refers to is as though it’s a shadow, and actually you don’t need a computer to do it. Just hold a box up near a wall sometime and observe how the cuboid distorts into something weird on the wall if you think of yourself living in that 2-D space, with the line segments growing and shrinking for no apparent reasons and all the right angles bent out of shape. That’s the same thing. Or consider Enceladus’s shadow from the Sun on the cloud layers of Jupiter if you want to consider a spherical example. Same thing. Then you have the choice of what projection transform you‘d like to use (with perspective and isometric projections being most common), and whether shapes should be solid or semi-transparent or merely wireframe as shading choices are significant to the reality your portraying.
      This would be an addition to 4D Toys I’d really like to see… a button which would be able to switch you from a sliced to a projected view of the space. However, I would say that might be a lot of effort as it would rely on a completely different rendering support code and such a capability wouldn’t be appropriate for the Miegakure game (it would make it too easy to spot things nearby which were temporarily out of your view because of your position and orientation).
      In any case… great question. Wikipedia has a great entry cataloging a variety of such spatial transformations (collect ’em all in your graphics libraries!):

      SRS Secret Rogue Society thats kinda an improbable theory considering spatial dimensions beyond 3 only exist in math, or in theory as suggested by string theory. that said, these different higher dimensional objects or spacetimes dont interact with lower dimensional objects or spacetimes. so ur really just throwing out a whimsical idea that doesnt mean much. its basically impossible by the definition of dimensions for a lower dimensional object to leave its plane for a higher dimensional one. for example, if a square with measurements 1x1 were to leave its two dimensional plane and enter a three dimensional plane, it would have to become a cube with dimensions 1x1x0. but then it isnt two dimensional anymore it now has a third dimension which has no width. but still three dimensional. this is also why it is impossible for us three-dimensional beings to see into four spatial dimensions at one time. because we are bound by three dimensions and always will be.

    Since we can only see one 3D slice of a 4d object, would it be a reasonable effort to overlay those other 3D cross section with low opacity so you can see it’s other cross sections? That seems to be about as close as we can get to seeing a 4d object. Or maybe it’s a dumb idea, idk

    I seem to know a little bit about 4D. It might be cliche but I will try to explain well
    As you can see, in 3D we can move 3D objects through 3 directions(X, Y and Z). And 4D there is another unknown direction which objects can move through other than X, Y and Z.
    The direction has to form a 90° to all other directions, so we are looking at the 4D “hypershapes” with a way which it perpendiculars with all of the 3D directions, and sliding through one of the 3D directions as we move our perspective.

  • @anthonylosego
    @anthonylosego 2 роки тому

    I really like that you explain the slice mechanism of projecting down a 4D object into a 3D slice. Especially with the same representation of a 3D object into 2D slice.
    However, I just wish someone would take what looks like a 3D object on a 2D screen (slice) and do the same with a 4D object on a 3D screen (object) that is then depicted on a 2D screen. This is slightly different as we use 3D eyeballs that have a stretched 2D retina over the back half of our eye sphere. But we can then visualize the 3D in 2D projection. We get ALL of the 3D object in a 2D image. Not parts of it disappearing. I'd like to have the same 3D object created, if only in software, but them displayed on a 2D monitor.
