I just redownloaded 4d toys yesterday to show a friend (we're both math grad students, and he said you "can't visualize" 4d - I wanted to show him this because it is the best tool I've used to help me understand 4d intuitively). So excited for these updates!
Not to promote drug use, but the overwhelming amount of anecdotal evidence that DMT allows people to perceive higher spatial dimensions is uncanny. The qualia research institute and the subjective effects index are just two examples of people trying to map these subjective experiences. It's easy to say that it's all just sensory distortion, but I think there's far more than meets the eye.

One thing I'd like to see is an expansion of the "2D slices of 3D shapes" examples. For example, if we take an octahedron in 3D and take sequential 2D slices of it vertex-first, we have a square that grows from a point to its maximum size and shrinks back to a point again, but a face-first slicing reveals a triangle that morphs into its own dual through a hexagonal path. Both of these "types" of octahedra can be seen in the 24-cell. I think that providing more 3D shapes to slice up in 2D would invite people to better understand why certain 3D slices of 4D shapes look the way they do.
I just wanted you to know that I care a lot about stuff like this. I loved getting an intuition for a dimension I'll never visit, but also actually being able to visit it. Know that if I can, and if I know I can, me and countless other math lovers will support you.

@@HueHanaejistla It is just a big game. There are over 200 levels and 8 or 9 main mechanics. All the mechanics required code that was very hard to write because of the 4D, way beyond what I've talked about. And even once you make the basic tech, to actually make it look good and not just shitty programmer art is a whole other story. Then there's this thing with games that even if they look done there are always tons of issues to make sure it actually works well and feels good.

Can the 3D slice be rotated in a way that you can see the X, Z and W all at the same time, but the slider become Y? So that you don't see the vertical dimension, effectively the same as laying the 2D plane flat on the ground in a 3D world.

Is it possible to set up the VR so that, say, one eye is looking at X and Y, with Z being the flattened depth, and the other is looking at Z and Y, with W being the flattened depth? I'm sure it would be headache inducing, but it'd be so cool

The new update appears to cause significant lag on my iPad (Air 4th gen, running 16.3.1) when I tap on a given scene's preview and it starts to animate. This was not present in the previous version. I haven't found any other issues with the newest update so far, though. (I should ask, though: is the fact that you can't rotate the screen 180 degrees intended? It worked a few updates ago, but the orientation now seems to be locked in place such that the charge port is to the right.)
Ah ok, I will look into the slowdown, sorry! Rotating the screen 180 degrees was hurting my head trying to make the accelerometer work in both case, and I think it's a pain to always have to lock orientation anyway. But yeah, it's a tradeoff...
@@mtbdesignworks A couple of other things I should probably point out as well: for the 2D figure eight intersection demonstration, face projection always displays the intersection as offset even if the offset is turned off. This doesn't happen for wireframe projection. Also, the great icosahedral 120-cell looks like it might be missing a few faces (this will take a bit of close inspection but you might eventually see some isolated pentagrams or incomplete star polyhedra as vertex figures).
Just viewed the 3blue1brown take about intuition of 2d problem solving, given we as humans can think in 3d. And he also mentions that there are problems which might be solvable in 4d more easily than in 3d - like rotation using quaternions. Extrapolating from this. If current LLMs are working with 1d (textual), 2d (static picture) and 3d (3d mesh / 2d+t video in time) - and there emerge the intuition of even higher dimensions (eg textual LLMs understand 2d composition and mapping - can draw mermaid diagram of a person, 2d static picture can rotate the shown face without having a 3d representation). What emergent feature can be unlocked, if the interactivity of 4d physical sandbox, can be mapped to a training set of a new design of a NN? Giving insights about static 3d, and 3d+t development which might be unfathomable in our 3d-thinking minds... perhaps? That being said - are you as the front-adventurer of 4d physical simulations, in any way connected to someone acting as a front-line NN explorer with higher-dimensional mathematical knowledge? And if not, why not :D. Please do :). I am looking forward for your code to help learning a NN which will finally solve the friction and fluid-sim vortexes simulation on higher level than previously thought is possible. Very cool. Now, I have a question. In 2D seen from the side, a 1-wheeled vehicle must lean in order to accelerate. A 2-wheeled vehicle like a bike must not. But in 3D the bike has to lean in order to turn, which is a form of acceleration. Does that mean that a 3- or 4-wheeled vehicle, like a car, will have to lean in order to accelerate or turn in a 4D world? A 1-wheeled vehicle has a wheel base that is a point. A bike has a wheel base that is a line. A car has a wheel base that is a plane. And it doesn’t have to lean in 3D to move. So it seems you would need a volumetric wheel base (like a cube) in 4D to avoid having to lean to turn. Edit2: I guess what I’m saying is that we need 3D and 4D cars with wheel physics to experiment with these things. Does the 4D car need 4D wheels or is it fine with regular 3D wheels? Kinda like how a bike has 2D wheels in a 3D world. Kind of…

just downloaded 4D Toys... the launch experience needs some love, scrolling the cartoons is a bit annoying. also, the screen disappears if I click anywhere outside of it - not an ideal interaction. It would be cool to be able to see a different projection on different monitors
@@mtbdesignworks I'm pretty sure they're asking for borderless full screen mode. When in full screen, the window minimizes when you click outside of it. (Unless, of course, you willingly live through the pain of having only one monitor.) Actually, I just confirmed the window also disappears in windowed mode when you click outside it.

The most natural way of displaying 4D is using time as 3rd camera dimension but it may be very confusing.
We can visualize 4D with this 3D slice, but we cannot see the same things the 4D beings would see, as our retinas send only a 2D image to the brain.

Oh, I figured it out. Near the end, there are some levels that each unlock a new button. Just playing those will get you the new buttons.

i just got the game but i don't have the ability to do any of these new things except play with the new things
nevermind it turns out you have to play a certain level to unlock the mechanics
I think you can do crazy stuff if you make this work on the oculus
lol 2 seconds after I commented I heard the bit about being available in VR. I'll see if that works from steam!
