    In February 2022, I managed to try out the TUI 767-300ER wide body from Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, to Manchester UK. This 24 year old bird, first delivered to Britannia Airways in 1998, took me on the 3h57m journey where I discovered a really well presented aircraft, and a slightly less than satisfactory airline!
    So pop the kettle on, sit back, and let's begin our journey on the viewing deck of Gran Canaria airport's Priority Pass lounge.

    I'm not saying don't blame TUI, however the catering company (Dnata) have reduced their supplies to the airlines they cater mainly due to short staff issues. The airline I work for in Manchester have had no choice but to cater the aircraft in the morning for the whole day, even though that aircraft might do 2 different destinations, 1 in the morning then 1 in the afternoon, keeping the same catering apart from a fresh stock of sandwiches in the afternoon. Therefore the crew that take the morning flight have to make sure not to sell as much, so there is enough for the afternoon flight.

      Thanks Josh for commenting and you’re right, I just wish TUI had told me in advance (that and they were grumpy all the way back!) 👍

      I wonder if they had been getting grief from the passengers on the flight down about the lack of food on board and this affected their moods for the flight back home? Not an excuse I know, but potentially a reason, as it can’t be nice getting grief from passengers for something out of your control.
      This is why I always eat a decent meal in the airport before I fly, plus the food is usually rubbish haha

      @MomentsInTheSky  Рік тому +1

      Hello Nikki thanks for watching. I agree Donny going is a blow..a lovely airport that I’ve used a few times myself. The plane with the middle seats down to GC from Manchester would be either this one on the video, the 767, or the newer 787 - both operated by TUI. Usually the Canaries flights are 737’s but you can find the larger planes on certain days. When you book on TUI’s website, it’ll tell you which aircraft it is, so you’ll know for sure.

    When it was Britannia in the 80s and 90s they were great and service standards high for a charter company. My auntie said as crew they had training on how to serve drinks and meals and where to place the pack of peanuts and cup on a paper coaster branded with Britannia logo and and strict with uniform standards. They even flew to Australia with long stopovers for the crew. The 767 was a dream in the 80s and a modern plane.

    Great trip report, very professionally produced and shot.
    I agree with you about service going downhill and it’s such a shame when you think of British charter airlines in the 80’s and 90’s, and how good they were.
    Who in their right mind thought that getting rid of a well respected household name and brand like Britannia, and changing it to a nondescript sounding noise like tui, would be a good idea anyway?
    On another note, I’m fairly sure that it was Air 2000 and air europe who first started serving hot food on British charter flights, not Britannia. Despite what the promotional video claims.
    Oh and don’t get me started on the brainwashed mask zealots, there is a Liverpool based EasyJet captain who likes to berate passengers on his welcome onboard announcement about having to wear them. Luckily easy have now stopped their mask mandate, so he must be in mourning now.

      I've never been a fan of the H&S sermon, up in the air or anywhere else. However, in May 2008 flying from Arrecife to a cold, rainy and windy Gatwick (with plenty of food and drink though). We had done the normal decent with the changes in engine noise along with the gear going down. It was then anounced we where 'going round again and not to worry'. Then heard the undercarriage being as it went back up and we gently climbed away. Nothing dramatic at all. We flew around for a bit, had that lovely slowing down floating feeling then heard the undercarriage go down, then a few minutes later up, and down and up again. The captain, using his special captain's voice told us not to worry (a bit like the government saying there is plenty of toilet rolls so don't panic) explaining there had been a warning the gear had not locked down properly and listen to the cabin crew's instructions along with a reminder not to leave our seats or undo the belts until instructed. We appeared to slow right down, the undercarriage made its noise and suddenly and very gently we where on the ground. Didn't recall the reverse thrust being used. The crew where great. But I now listen to the H&S stuff and look for the exits, just in case. Cos it happens.

    To be honest Neil, I have refused to fly TUI for years, as I generally find them far more expensive than their competitors. Depending on where you're flying too, their flight times tend to be at the crack of dawn and the leg room on some of their flights is terrible, but on a four hour flight to have no food service is appalling.

      They are usually far more expensive on the Canaries routes that’s for sure. I do rely on food on the short trips..I couldn’t believe it when they had nothing 😬

    Have to say last time i was away I flew with Tui and from check-in they were abysmal.
    Staff at the desks were so aggressive.
    We all got charged excess baggage even though the scales on the desk said we were under.
    (Self checking scales were showing we were over)
    Cabin crew were also unprofessional and just plain rude.
    I would never choose to fly Tui again.

      You’re not the only one to say that Stephen. I thought it might just have been a one off for me, but there’s really not much love for TUI!

    I never use Tui anymore, 4 times the price of Ryanair and RYR crew aren’t the best but there better than Tui on my last Tui Flight I paid 400£ pp Return no extras for a flight to Antalya and on my return the window panel fell off , wouldn’t move me to another seat so that was 5 hrs sleeping on a Piece of insulation with a 2 mm piece of aluminium separating me from the -60 degrees temp outside never again much rather fly with Ryanair, Easyjet , Jet2 etc

    i think TUI has lost it's way, maybe due to the huge covid losses and cost cutting but now it's showing in it's product .

    Tui boeing 767 are certainly not the best planes because they are horrible, old and the seats were uncomfortable last time. I prefer Tui boeing 737 or Tui 787 because they are nicer planes and seats are comfortable on both Tui boeing 737 and Tui boeing 787.
    Customer service can be hit and miss on Tui too at times as some of the crew on the planes are polite while others are rude.
    Jet2 are more better than Tui overall and at least you get decent customer service and at least Jet2 doesn't have boeing 767. Boeing 767 is worse aircraft in my opinion. I heard Tui are getting rid of boeing 767s too this year.

    I will never fly with TUI again. Cancelled our 20.35 gran canaria to Glasgow flight on 12th May 2022. Made us check in at airport at around 19.00 and wait in airport for the Manchester flight which finally left at around 2.30 am. Lost our pre paid extra legroom seats. Bussed us back to Glasgow arriving in Glasgow around 12.30 on Friday 13th May. Probably put these big planes on so they can cancel other returning UK flights and put them on this plane to Manchester. Disgusting Tui!

      @tui are at it again. Causing carnage by cancelling flights with no thought for the poor stranded passengers being transported like objects all over the place. Just be upfront and cancel the holidays instead of leaving people stranded.

    Tui are sadly very poor nowadays. The way they are going they will be out of business very soon.

    Absolutely pathetic and I’d say even at the height of covid that would have been pathetic as every airline should serve food water alcohol etc . Personally I don’t like them anyway so this just backs my opinion up , cheers Neil very good watch

      If there having catering issues how would you expect them to serve ? What take off with no food so people still get away or cancel the flight

    • @MomentsInTheSky
      @MomentsInTheSky  2 роки тому

      @@JC-uy3di it’s a fair question JC. I’d have liked them to tell me in advance. When you rely on the facilities advertised (and that other airlines around that time were very capable of delivering such as Ryanair and easyJet), it’s poor form for them to simply say “we’ve got nothing”.
      I’d have happily taken my sandwiches and drinks onboard - if they’d told me in advance to do that.
