You know, it is strange, but nowadays I pay much closer attention to Desi's performances than Lucy's. I think the reason why is because I was just old enough to remember what happened when "I Love Lucy" was on the air.. Lucy was such a huge mega star at the time, and they treated Desi like a nobody. He was actually a very good performer. Desi should have gotten much more credit than he did. I like to hear him sing, especially "Forever Darling" and "The Waters of the Minnetonka". I also get a big kick out of "Cuban Pete".
I also really love the one he attempts to sing in the one where Lucy pretends to be the "maharincess" of whatever country. I Get Ideas. But no full version exists of just him singing. Only that minute or so with Lucy's dramatic fainting in it.
@@sammy-girl93 I have wracked my brains, but can't remember the episode you mention. I was so little at the time. Unfortunately, I do remember how saddened everyone was when Lucy and Desi got their divorce. It was a huge disappointment for them, as well as the whole country. RIP Desi and Lucy - I hope you've found each other on the "other side".
Diane you’re not the only one who has started to pay closer attention to his performances although I wasn’t around when they originally aired however as I have come to understand jazz over the years particularly the swing genre I have come to understand just what a contribution Desi Arnaz Made in the genre it’s sad in one instance because he will always be remembered as Ricky Ricardo and as a great actor and producer and The managing force behind Desi Lu productions however his overall contribution as a band leader in my opinion has been all but forgotten
@@darrienfann718 It is such a shame. One thing I'll never understand is why Desi didn't sing the overture to the movie "Forever Darling". Don't misunderstand me - I'm not criticizing the talent of the Ames Brothers in any way. But to the day I die, I will always think of "Forever Darling" as Desi's song. That was a crying shame also.
I listen to this song and it makes me cry that I miss my best friend pass away from cardiac arrest at the age of 40 and my father passed away from heart failure at the age of 70. They both are in heaven now, watching over me and i miss them very much. 😢😢😥😥😞😞
Makes me cry... It's just what they both wanted but were unable to retain..😔 When they dated, Oh Lucy simply adored that man...When they would have friends over and Desi would play guitar and sing, she’d place tiny tea lights all around him just to make him sparkle even more..I so wish they could have met in another life, without the demand and distraction of Hollywood or the entertainment world.. I adore Lucy❤️Desi. Or I guess I should say Ricky and Lucy.. I so wish for both of them that they could of had the love The Ricardo’s had Forever.. Forever, forever darling you will find me true.....❤️
I heard that from the first time Desi sang this song he loved it so much he often sang it at home and at birthdays, anniversaries, he even sang it at their daughter's wedding. It was an Arnaz family favorite.
Yeah, Ricky did a great job with this…my ears go to the Pied Pipers…this is 2.5 minutes of pure beauty!! Exquisite harmonizing…Whew!! Gets me every time!!😂🎶
This is one of my favorite songs of Desi's on the entire show. I grew up with the edited syndication version reruns on tv, so I only recently discovered this entire song after getting the DVDS and watching the full length episodes in their true form. Absolutely beautiful. What a talent they all were.
The guy on the right standing closest to Ricky, is my Uncle Allan Davies. He was a commercial musician working in the industry all his life. His Daughter, Debbie Davies is a gifted Blues singer and guitarist.
I loved this song since I first heard it. This is actually as shortened version for TV. My wife and I are forever Lucy fans and we used the official recording as the first dance at our wedding :-)
This is outstanding. That great straightforward rhythm section.Pied Piper's original member Clark Yocum third singer from the left. Clark stands next to Frank Sinatra in the video-I'll Never Smile Again with Tommy Dorsey... The original start of Frank. I agree this is better than the record. Straight rhythm with little accent. The harp player is the lady on the left. What a beautiful song. It should have been more popular.
Just when I thought I saw every episode of the I love Lucy, this scene comes up. I don't ever recall this scene.Even though it says which episode, title, and year, etc. I'm saying to myself, maybe, just maybe, it was from her other show around the same time
First time hearing this song tonight on I love Lucy and I had to look it up it's absolutely beautiful. I love Sue Allen's voice so pure. I'll be looking for more Pied Pipers videos for sure!
Damn, I just listened to "The Waters of the Minnetonka" and now this one? UA-cam's algorithm has blessed me with giving me my two favorite songs from the show back to back.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. This scene must have been cut out of syndication. I have no memory of this song or this performance and I Love Lucy was basically on loop most of my life.
@@johndavies1116 Hey John! Well, he's your real uncle. My great uncle, but because he and my mom were fairly close in age, I just stick with uncle. Sadly, I only spoke with him as an adult a few times, but I really enjoyed talking with him... and I was amazed at our similarities, some of them just about creepy.
In the early fifties I used to tune into the fan broadcast from Germany the DJ played They Call It Vanity sung by Sue with Les Baxter orch. And chorus .I was Seventeen then it stayed with me. I never heard again until I recently came across it on my IPad thank you from Glasgow…
Love the vocal work on this piece the only thing I couldn’t help noticiy the heels shoes and platform They used to elevate Desi/Ricky. Hollywood really did try to hide his height.
Some say it was Desi who insisted on platforms and elevator shoes, as he was self conscious of his height. In scenes where he is sitting on a sofa, you’ll sometimes notice that the cushion on the side he is sitting is much thicker.
Love to able to see the performers. Also check out the video of the Ames Brothers and Desi Arnaz performing "Forever Darling" on "The Ed Sullivan Show" from 2/5/56. Ed Ames and Desi Arnaz separately take solos on the bridge.
I need to look up the Pied Pipers music,..they sound great. Anyone else notice that Desi is standing on a box of some kind? Was it to appear taller? lol
I agree. I'm 60 years old and have been an I Love Lucy fan for as far back as I can remember, and have never seen this before. Was it edited out in syndication I wonder, to fit in more commercials.

He was about 5'9", which isn't terribly short. But Lucy was about 5'7" and would be taller than him while wearing heels, which is why he wore a short heel himself, which you can see here.
Why doesn't anyone harmonize like this anymore? It's so beautiful. 😊
I know right
Desi Arnaz had a great voice
2024 loving this forever...

I am thinking Desi was the fire and real talent behind this duo
It's amazing how different their voices are from the singers of today. Perfect harmony.
He sounds better live than in the recording, that's unbelievable.

Desi had such good musical talent.

Such talent and such professionalism from The Pied Pipers here…Smooth as glass.
Perfect harmony
Love him singing, especially this song. It makes me tear up, like when he sang the Baby song to Lucy.
Beautiful
i have loved this song since i was a kid
A BEAUTIFUL voice,!
One of the best episodes and songs
I actually really like most of the songs from the show.
Great rapport
First time hearing this song tonight on I love Lucy and I had to look it up it's absolutely beautiful. I love Sue Allen's voice so pure. I'll be looking for more Pied Pipers videos for sure!
Desi was so short. They have him on a box and he always wore shoes with high heels. You can see it in this video
He was 5’ 6” tall.
Beautiful harmony
Damn, I just listened to "The Waters of the Minnetonka" and now this one? UA-cam's algorithm has blessed me with giving me my two favorite songs from the show back to back.
The best version of that song was on this show
Great versions of both songs on I Love Lucy.
Lovely song.
Desi was so good
I've been looking for this clip, thank you for uploading! The harmony always gets me 😍and can't forget Desi the icon!
So beautiful! Love Desi and Lucy!
Truly amazing. Sue Allen was so pretty and so talented. All of them are great!
Yes she was! She was my grandma!
Thank you Daisy .. Yes she was :)
@@inno624 Sue was in "The Cheers" wasn't she? I read that somewhere. What a beautiful voice she had. I am sure you are very proud of her.
What a great talent Sue was.... Still hear her on old commercials and jingle reels from time to time.
Beautiful and an angelic voice. All were great here but I can't take my eyes off Sue.
Me and my grandpa used to watch this show when I was little. I listen to this song whenever I miss him.
ugh i'm such a simp for this man
Nice song, Desi recorded it January 1956 on MGM records.
I’ve never seen this before ! I watch the show all the time
I've seen the shorter version on "Ricky's European Booking", but never knew there was a longer version.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. This scene must have been cut out of syndication. I have no memory of this song or this performance and I Love Lucy was basically on loop most of my life.
The pied pipers classic
I love the Leo Lion in the corner
Beautiful song
He sang it at Lucie Arnaz's wedding too .
I knew that
Beautiful song, great singing group and Desi Arnaz! What a great clip! thanks for posting!
I love the Pied Pipers so much! I didn't remember they were on "Lucy!" Thank you for this.
Love this! I watch I Love Lucy all the time! Thank you!!

never see this part from the tv show...must have only edited the last part

Sucks that it was edited out.. it's so beautiful!! Love Desi
can't recall which episode this is from or if this is from the "forever darling" film.
they always edit this song from the reruns only showing the last few bars. Sad.

He was standing on a box.
This must’ve been a real recording session because this is exactly the way he sang it in the film released the following year. 🤔
notice desi patting his babbalu pagan god doll on the head.
This is so lovely! But was that singer flirting with Desi? I saw her glancing at him and whoever else.

It's too bad the cut 7/8 of the song out in the tv show
Phil Brown I agree. So happy I was able to find this!
You're so wrong she wouldn't do I love Lucy without him
desi? faithful? 🤣
pretty song but just got sidetracked looking at Ricky’s feet….those are not boots lol lol
Was Desi really that short necessitating him to stand on a box?
He was about 5'9", which isn't terribly short. But Lucy was about 5'7" and would be taller than him while wearing heels, which is why he wore a short heel himself, which you can see here.
Loved the group but Not a fan of Rickys voice
Neither the song not the singers are good.
Pathetic singing by Desi---matched by those high heal shoes, and standing on a box to appear taller! So funny!
You are a silly person
