Rotten Tomatoes was wild for those scores. We really enjoyed these last two movies!
About Katniss shooting that plane with a bow and arrow, you forgot about the fact that she had modificated arrows. Yellow was the common ones, Red was incendiary and Black ones was explosive. That's why she did damage to those planes.
Personally MJ 1+2 were my favorites by a mile. Not that the others were bad mind you, I just love that they ended up being bigger than just child battle Royale.
@@mrfantastic8451 We didn't forget, we just thought the absurdity of shooting down a plane with an arrow, even if modified, is hilarious.
@@SortaStupid I think it's pretty solid. A failiure of a one little mechanism in a plane can cause a crash so, if she blows up a big part of a plane it make sense that it blows up.
True, but in a world where they can create things like the hunger games, having the planes be that weak is laughable
The movie really glosses over this, but Finnick casually tells us that he's been sexually abused by Capitol citizens from the age of 14 otherwise his loved ones would be murdered. So he has been abused for more than a decade. The movies really speed through that bit of his speech, it's basically background noise, but it reveals so much about both Finnick as a character, as well as the added crimes of Snow and the Capitol.
Yeah… that was such a weird decision the movies made to gloss over that with an action scene, most people just completely miss it. Especially when this was such a big moment for finnick in the book
yeah, and the part with johanna as well. it's been a long time since i've read the books, but isn't the reason johanna's family is dead is because she refused to fall victim to forced prostitution and her body being sold by snow to the capitol? it was such a major part in the story for me, her and finnicks story- to like fully create my opinion on snow as a villain.
@@sadiesimp2215 actually in the book it never says why Johanna’s family was killed, she doesn’t mention it. I think the whole thing with her refusing to sell her body is a fair guess from the fandom as to why because of what finnick said. Then again, Haymitch’s family was killed for an entirely different reason. So tbh, they could’ve been killed for many reasons, even for how she played her games or her attitude or something she did or said could’ve gotten Snow to kill everyone she loved to try and control her.
@@clover2739 ahhh like i said its been a long time since ive read the books and i read them quite young, so it’s difficult to remember what was canon and what was really well written headcanons
@@sadiesimp2215 tbh it’s understandable since most people tend to say the Johanna thing, I saw it everywhere before I read the books and when I read them I was confused because it didn’t really mention that so I felt like I missed something. It could still be canon but something Susan Collins might’ve mentioned later, or it was added on the hunger games wiki or something
They didn't do anything to Annie cause she's already mentally ill. After she won in 69th or 70th hunger game she became so hysterical that they didn't even do the victory tour.
It's more details like this that make me want to read the books.
@@SortaStupid please do. The books are amazing. The movies kept the tone and story but the little details the book adds bring so much more.
@@SortaStupid you need to read the books for no other reason than how actually unhinged Katniss is during the last one. The movies were good, but without her inner monologue it really doesn’t capture her state of mind properly.
But it was mentioned in the books that she was naked and still had her hair when they escaped. So most likely, they still tortured her after Finnick revealed that they human traffick the 'desirable' victors.
The hanging tree scene is iconic. They took out the power so its district 5
It's so good!
Especially if you read the prequel!
This was glossed over. But what Finnick is talking about is because Snow poisons opponents and allies to keep dictatorship, he also takes small amount of said poison to be immune and avoid suspicion. But he has mouth sores that bleed constantly because of the poisons (think back to Catching Fire) so he always has roses around him to mask the scent of blood.
32:29 at this point, im pretty sure Katniss knows she wants Peeta, but Peeta is not there and she still loves Gale as a best friend. There is a reason why she always has that pearl that Peeta gave her, there is a reason why she is having nightmares, but she isn't dreaming of Gale (who is already there) she is dreaming about Peeta. And she really only gives Gale romantic attention when she is in despair or he is in pain
the movie ending with “we have freed the victors” with peeta not only physically restrained but mentally hijacked was INSANEEEE
So Katniss is pretty sure about loving Peeta, but she’s also literally losing her mind from the trauma and has to keep being sedated every two seconds in the book at this point in time. (It’s one of the things the movie didn’t spend their time on but it realllyyyy is important to understanding Katniss’ frame of mind). (Side note: one of the other scenes the movies kinda botched is when Katniss has the Panic attack and yells “he’s gonna kill him! He’s gonna kill Peeta! Don’t make me do this!” In the book her panic attack is actually cause she knows that Snow WONT just kill Peeta, but will instead take out everything she says and does on him. But since Peeta is Snows piece of control over her, he’d never be merciful enough to just kill him. )
Gale is one of the few thinks acting like a lifeline.
And she feels guilty for not loving Gale.
And she feels like she owes Gale something because he’s protected and helped provide for her family after her dad died.
But when Peeta’s there, it’s not even a little bit of a contest of who she loves.
seeing sweet caring protective peeta become this wrecked version of himself breaks my heart every single time
In the book and truly if you pay attention in the films Gale was NEVER a romantic partner of Katniss’. She compared kissing him to kissing a brother in the book. Even in the films, she is never in a relationship with him, she never says she loves him- she only kisses him when she is stressed or scared. Like gale says “its like kissing someone who is drunk”
I love watching people react to the Hunger Games’ series for the first time and guessing so many things wrong. It’s got a lot of typical young adult tropes, like the love triangle, but Suzanne Collins actually did a really good job subverting a lot of them as well. Like everyone assuming Gale will die trying to save Peeta, and not Peeta having been weaponized to attack Catniss.
And I actually love the ending. I think it makes sense and does justice to all three characters, unlike, for example, Twilight which went another way to resolve their love triangle 🙄
Katniss is supposed to be 16 in The Hunger Games and 17 in everything else. She can’t decide because it’s not her first priority given that she’s taking care of Prim while her mother shut down her emotions since their dad died, hunting for food, it being Prim’s first year to be selected & volunteering for Prim
In the book, it isn’t Effie that is rescued, it’s the rest of Katniss’ prep team. We didn’t get hardly anything of them in previous films so it makes no sense to include them BUT, in the book they are being held and tortured in 13. They don’t get this nice get up that Effie has. They are literally chained to walls. It’s a good early look into who Coin is as a person, because her prep team are, yes from the capital, but also really very harmless and almost childlike in their naivety.
All the other stylists (like Cinna, RIP Portia, she was Peetas stylist) and prep teams for all the other tributes were executed live, with Peeta having to watch.
It’s not gone into in the film but it’s implied in the books that the capital and district 13 were basically in a Cold War stalemate for years. The public were told that 13s “resource” was graphite mining, but it actually did all the nuclear testing, in secret. So the capital was scared of them. Hence, the Cold War stand off.
I love this movie franchise. However, the only thing that really annoyed me is the love triangle. In the books it is clear that Katniss is just trying to survive and protect her loved ones. She's not even thinking about love or a relationship. I think it's kinda stupid how much emphasis they put on the love triangle in the movies. But I guess that's to be expected, given that the target audience were teens.
We were actually kind of curious about this. Some things just felt out of place with the relationship stuff, especially with how much she had going on.
@@SortaStupid Oh, for sure. The relationship stuff were honestly an afterthought in the books. Love comes to the forefront only at the very end of the series. Which makes more sense imo.
I feel like they made choices that were literally just to fuel the love triangle angle. I hate the bit where Gale calls Peeta a traitor because as far as I recall he never says so in the books. He's literally the one who suggested Peeta was being tortured or blackmailed. That in addition to the scenes in the first film of him looking like a kicked puppy whenever Katniss showed affection for Peeta on screen. I feel like they were trying to build on animosity that just wasn't there just so the love triangle will have more tension, because Katniss thinks of it sooo little in the books like that girl is for sure winning the IDGAF war.
@@eurydicexoxo I totally agree. That being said, I don't like book Gale either. Like at all.
@@eiriniMusicLover That's fine. Lots of people don't, but I do. I find it hard to really hate or place blame on a kid like that personally. There's valid reasons, sure, but I feel like a lot of people are also just too caught up in the love triangle of it all.
District 2 is the Military personnel district. District 13 is the military weaponry district.
Thanks for letting us know!
I thought it was the nuclear technology?
@@chilibreath yep nuclear science and technology but I assumed they used it mostly for weaponry seeing that district 13 has a lot of nuclear warheads
@kyle5810 exactly. My understanding from the book version (spoilery!) is that District 13 & the Capitol were on a stalemate BECAUSE 13 still has the warheads. The Capitol just needed to fool everyone else without forcing 13 to launch the nukes.
The Hanging Tree scene always gives me chills, it’s SO well done. Especially seeing it in theaters. Starting from the quiet melody and bird calls to the echoing crowd and rushing water was so frickin’ impactful with the giant speakers. (Y’all talking about Tower Defense absolutely cracked me up though😂.) So glad y’all seem to have fun watching these, they’re so entertaining. I look forward to the final reaction!
I'm starting to think y'all don't actually know what a martyr is. As it stands, Snow cannot risk simply killing Katniss. He has to make sure everyone hates her first, or he won't be able to stop the rioting without killing his entire empire
Really worked out for him 👍
The reason Katniss, Peeta, and hamitchs house wasnt destroyed is because they had a place for their peace keepers from the capitol to be safe during the fire bombing.
“One of them has to die. It’s the only way for Katniss to decide.” One of them does TECHNICALLY die. And she still picks him 😂 I love this series sm. 🥰
Snow did use roses to block the scent of blood that was always in his mouth- that was not a metaphor.
Not a metaphor about the roses. Katniss genuinely thinks that Snow might be a vampire and drinks the tributes blood at one point because of the smell of blood on his breath.
26:42 guess y’all didn’t see the part where they was given explosive arrows
RIGHT?!!!
YOOOO I was playing BLOONS when you guys started geeking out during the damn scene!!! I started laughing so hard and i lost the game of course. but that was deff my best moment while watching a reaction.
luv ya'll. Keep pushin
4:03: This girl weird. First Snow being Santa Clause, now this. 😆
i only call it how i see it 🤣
This movie was so good, i read the books and did like them more but the movies werent bad at all so i dunno lol but glad you guys liked them!
They had explosive arrows. Beetie said the red ones were explosive when he gave them to them.
We’re aware. We were just enjoying the absurdity of an arrow, whether modified or not, took down a war plane
@@SortaStupid You have to remember that a good archer can shoot a man sized target accurately at about 70 yards. That was a ship that was much bigger than a man and was much closer than 70 yards, but she did have added weight on the tip of the arrow in the form of a high explosive. So halve that number. The plane may have been farther out than 35 yards, but it was also much bigger than a man-sized target.
If you use the same explosive material that you would in a standard grenade, without considering any advancements made in future explosive material, you'd probably get an explosion about 1/4 to 1/3 as powerful as a grenade with the amount that could have fit in the arrowhead.
Considering how thin the material is that makes up the skin of a plane, even military planes, an explosive blast that size would punch through, pretty easily.
Her strike was near the engine along the wing. Often planes will hold the fuel in the wings. The explosion could cause the fuel to ignite, creating a much larger explosion than the amount in the arrowhead would have held.
I'm not saying that it's likely that it could be done. I'm just saying that it's plausible that it could be done.
From doing some research, archers have weighed in and mentioned that it is possible that she could have done it, depending on the weight of the explosive on the tip of the arrow.
Just to let you know that the actor that you keep commenting on smiling a lot, died before the filming had finished for the last 2 movies. This could be why his smiling maybe coming off uncanny.
I think he died after this one was done filming
? So hes CGI'd in?
I love this franchise, and truly think it's one of the best book-to-movie franchises of all time. But I can never forgive them for how they handled the "love triangle." It wasn't even really a love triangle in the books - Katniss was just trying to make it through with her loved ones, and she did eventually fall in love but it never ever had this vibe of "will they won't they" or kissing Gale when Peeta wasn't around. The movies did that just because of Hollywood, not because of the actual story
38:00 😂😂😂 I legit just died along side you guys! This legit is the darkest, funniest line I’ve heard in years!
Maybe if they shut up and stopped talking all the time they would watch and listen to the movie
I actually like the 3rd movie , number 1&2 are amazing and are definitely the best , but the damn scene is probably the best out of the whole franchise
She shot the jet down with an exploding arrow not a regular arrow so this makes it very possible it seems like you guys think the arrow she used to take down the jet was regular but it wasn't it was an exploding one specially designed
No they knew it was the exploding kind. They were just reacting to how absurd it is to hit what is basically a fighter jet with an arrow.
@@caxtonpetri753 oh ok thanks for that, I thought they thought it was a refular arrow but yeah I can see how they saw it the way they did, I guess I saw it as they hit the wing which made it crash into the other jet so for me it seemed plausible but I can deff see it from the other side as well
still goofy lmao even if its flying low and youre the best shot around, its incredibly unlikely youll hit it first try but theres also no info on the yield of the explosive tip but in their defense, its not a military jet, its a hovercraft bc there was a loss of technology in the past. in my mind, they function more like a helicopter would but its weird a bomber aircraft would be flying at like 50mph, super low and fail at hitting their target multiple times. who cares though, its a cool scene
@@uggggggghhhhh perhaps but the way I see it if she can hit birds flying in the sky and squirrels dead in the eye everytime a massive jet with her ability to hit a small bird going in all kinds of directions it's much easier to hit a massive jet flying righr over ur head when u know where it's going I still think it can be done especially within the context of the books and movie and with her abilities
with this whole conversation about team peeta or team gale you have to remember these are teenagers and adding to that they‘re in a war. I don‘t think anyone in her position could make up their mind about it
it’s always a good day when i get the notification that you guys have uploaded
Thank you!
Gremlins actually caused the PG-13 rating to exist
I thought it was because of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
@@tjjordan4207 Did a little research, and both films are listed as being responsible
@@EditDeath I looked into it as well. It makes sense because both films were released just two weeks apart from each other.
@@tjjordan4207 Yeah, that tracks. I tend to lean more towards Gremlins' influence though, simply for the Santa monologue. Parents always harp about violence in cinema, but it takes a perceived attack on belief to get them to actually do something about it
@@EditDeath The Santa story was so dark and creepy. It felt so out of nowhere. That girl has some issues.
The cat be like when everyone died we’re going to be eatin good tonight ears on everyone’s corpses
YES! You've finally made it to "Mokingjay"!
Yes, Ruff can fix him. Believe in Ruff.
THE BLOONS COMMENT WAS SO UNNECESSARY LMAOOO😭😭
I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe that she’s manage to hit one of the hovercrafts with her arrow I mean it’s far from the most unbelievable thing to occur in any of these movies.
That Bloons comment was wild.
Katniss shooting down a jet with an explosive arrow is unbelievable but the Capital being able to magic up wildfires, poison gas and rabid giant bulldog crossbreeds from nothing is totes normal lol
This is my favorite movie from the series. And Gale is one of my favorite. If I'm in this world I would be like Gale. Full of anger and resentment towards the capital.
Did you miss when Beetee was explaining the different colored arrows? They used thebred explosive arrows to bring down the hovercrafts
We know, we weren’t shocked by the fact the arrows exploded. We were laughing at the fact she even hit a fighter jet with a bow and arrow
“The Capitol’s not gonna have any paper” hahahaha
Not a single one of her comments about Coin aged well at all XD
You don't trust human authority.
Y'all rampant energy does not synergize with some of the scenes in these movies but damn is it entertaining.
fun fact, district 13 was built on where modern New York is today
Thx for the reaction
District 8 Hospital Helper portrayed by Charles White carried this movie
I AM NOT BILLY!
29:50 Would you be angry too if you lived and work in District 7 and quota increased by 2 hours
I’m pretty sure people hated on this movie because they split it into 2
This! It was all of the setup, but no resolution! You HAVE to remember it’s a pt1 of pt2 finale when you’re watching it or it would absolute be disappointing.
That’s because it was being overused. Harry Potter got away with it, and we kinda gave this one a little pass, although we did give it sh!t for it. But the moment Divergent came along, we were just sick to death of it and spoke with our wallets.
Overall, these movies get better with age. But that said, it would have been better to give the second movie a new title as opposed to Part 2. Even with Harry Potter, I would have named the final movie “Harry Potter and the Battle of Hogwarts”.
Those are explosive arrows though.😅
You guys definitely gotta watch Starship Troopers, and Robocop and Total Recall [the original, not the sh!t remake] as well.
Just saying ethical non-monogamy is a much healthier relationship style than monogamy. Monogamy has a divorce rate of 50% and that's not counting the monogamous relationships that didn't get to the point of marriage and that doesn't mean that the other 50% of marriages in happily. That's not counting the percentage that ends up with one of them removing the other from life... Intentionally or unintentionally...
That's not including the percentage that ends up in an unhappy marriage yet continues to be married for some reason or another usually kids.
Stop means less than 50% of marriages end up with a happy marriage by the end.
Look into how humans never fully evolved for monogamy.
The only reason you want monogamy is because you're told by society that you should.
H man looks good😮
When are you guys gonna watch John Wick 4?
Who leave katniss house alone? Cause propaganda. Look how everything was bombed but she got spared
As someone who never read the books, and dont worry this isn't a spoiler for the last movie, I honestly thought the ending to MJ Part 2 was all a dream. I did not think it was real at all 😭
please do watch starship tropers
After finishing the series please watch the parody movie "the starving games"
36:30
Can we permanently replace Hman with this chick? I'm still pissed at him for clearly not even trying to hide that he pre-watched The Last of Us. The point of a reaction channel is to go into it fresh. Plus he isn't funny like the rest of the squad.
He didn’t pre-watch TLOU 🤦♂️
imagine being this entitled
