I honestly think Project Wingman can hold its own when compared to Ace Combat’s Big 4 (4, 5, Zero, & 7). For $25 this game is an absolute steal. Even at a full $60 it’d be worth it.

I never thought when I was little the genre I would miss the most would be flight simulators I didn't know how good I had it I'm glad to see any current game that is one
I played the whole game in VR. Visual quality and consistency in VR suffers a bit (terrain textures and trees might look great in flatscreen but show their artificiality in VR), and the sense of presence isn't as strong as playing in flatscreen (you get screen shakes from nearby explosions in flatscreen). That said, I'd rather play in VR just to get the other aspects out of it. Battle styles, at least in Normal mode, don't matter much - you just have to churn through all of the targets. There is little reason to prioritize any target over another unless you're getting tired of having to use your flares against incoming missiles every moment they are available. The game offers a few boss fights as well. I appreciated the distraction the game provided, and I'm playing through it a second time on a higher difficulty. The story had opportunities to be a lot stronger with movements that could have really paid off (especially with the ending and its music), and more refined mission and combat challenges could have really added character to the game, but I didn't pay a AAA price for the game, so I won't complain much. Worth the $25? Absolutely.
I enjoyed the game less than i expected since PW is not Fast Paced like Ace Combat, in Ace Combat you can do High G Turn and enemies has various Maneuver to avoid your Missiles and keep Dogfighting, but in PW, the Enemy just circling around and standard missiles will not connect since the homing capabilities are Trash, but i appreciate the multiple Special Armaments and No Time Limit in Missions since it's making Ground Annihilation easier And my eyes is freaking hurt, too many Yellow/Orange tint and lack of Color Variation, this is the biggest turn down for me and no Mods existed to make it gone or at least use some variated color
Does this have a “flyby” view/mode? Can you look around in cockpit view? Does the view snap back when in cockpit view? Can your view lock on a target while in the cockpit? And finally, are there any options to increase or adjust the physics realism?
Highly disagree about the story. It's simple, focused, and doesn't have a million concepts that you need to track. The conflict drives the plot, and it's not boring American military oh say can you see tedium. It's even got deeper lore if you're interested. When "it" happens, it gets more interesting in a whole new way. Man it needs more than 21 missions, though. It blows my mind that this only had 2 developers.
THIS! I could not STAND how strict the time limits were in AC7. They singlehandedly ruined the game for me. AC6 had much more relaxed time limits, and you didnt feel like you had to do absolutely everything yourself. Your wingmen were useful in that, and as you free up friendly forces from the multiple choice objectives, you can command them to open fire on targets which was awesome when you see a mass of tanks and warships launch volleys, decimating all the ground targets in front of you. Ahhh - AC6 was sooo good.
Way better than the newest AceCombat as better utilized UR4 and Smooth Controls with the flight physics on top of being an indi game made by a couple devs
I always play sim games in cocpit view as one would pilot in real life. I am just glad this even has a cocpit veiw and it looks good too! most of these modern "simulator" games do not which is pretty sad with today's graphics and physics. long ago it was a comon (and probably required) staple to have a proper cocpit veiw in a sim whether driving or aircraft. This game is reminiscent of "Strike Commander" in fact it is as if they updated the game and called it "Project Wingman" except the wonderful story cut movies in SC. which I miss. Also in SC you can make descisions both in the air and on the ground, gointo bars take jobs, and manage the finance once you as the character inherit the title "commander" from your veteran mentor. that was a good story!

Intending only respect to the reviewer: I played almost all the older editions of Ace Combat, up to Assault Horizon. None of them, with the exception of AH, had what I'd consider compelling stories or memorable plotlines. AC6 was supposed to be a cinematic, movie-like experience - it was forgettable within moments, due if nothing else to its absurdly fantastical take on warfare. Horizon did have a more entertaining story experience, due largely to the relative leanness of cutscenes (other than some really annoying QTEs, but whaddayado). Mostly Horizon got out of the way and let you fly and shoot stuff. And that's the key. If you're playing an Ace Combat (or similar descendant) for its memorable storyline, you're all kinds of Missing The Point. I'm flying around in a gorgeous 3D space blowing things up and trying to avoid getting blown up. I'm good from there - you can tell me the Flying Spaghetti Monster is under attack and I have to protect his loving tendrils, and I'm fine with that. I'm there for the glorious air combat.
I'm absolutely astounded by your utter incomprehension of quality story telling. Assault Horizon's story telling was bland, boring and unimaginative while EVERY Playstation 2 Ace Combat had some of the best story telling in all of Video Gaming. Nevermind that AH had trash gameplay.

Many of the early games were good for me, but what I liked about Zero was how everyone would talk about your exploits in interviews, and the people and dialog would change with your level of brutality in the sky. It just made the game that much more engaging for me As for Ace Combat 7, it was ok, but the story never really hooked me in. Gameplay wise though, it was fine.

Looks impressive for a indie title.
Though why planes have fakes names ? Do game developers have to license them actually ?
Yep, copying the real names of the planes would be copyright infringement. Most of the time studios just pay the licensing fees, but this game was made by a **very tiny** group of people that likely couldn't afford it, so they just changed the names up a little.
Using the likeness of military hardware is free, using the official names is not.
@@thenecroinniceclothes5019
And since PW uses Fake Names Why did they still make Fake Planes like That freak f-22/J-20 mix ? Why not Just Make A Not F-22 or Not J-20 ??!!
@@mrandrossguy9871
Because they... wanted to? There is no requirement to do that, so I guess they just did that on their own. I don't know what else to say.
Suggestion: There should be a link to the 3 minute review playlist, I always waste time looking for it.
Its on the channel’s home page, right underneath the zp playlist
Is it multiplayer?
With no cutscenes or anything nothing seemed memorable?
I'm sorry did we play the same game? Many of its story moments were memorable BECAUSE they were conveyed while playing and through gameplay rather than just some cinematic you don't participate in.
I still hear the railguns...
Are the recommended specs real? On steam it says the game requires a i7 gen 8, 8GB RAM and a GTX 1070ti.
campaign wont be bad but conquest mode makes my 2080S chug
@@inFAMOUS_-vt7lu I'm more for the story/campaing. Thanks for the info.
just discovered this game, and it compelled me to dust off my hotas and try and run missiles into mountains
2:37 there is only one acceptable soundtrack
But it’s copyrighted
Highway to the danger zone
Fantastic review Will! Great to see you enjoyed it as much as i did! I finished the story mode recently, ive only scratched the surface of the Conquest mode, and i have loads of planes yet to unlock, so i'll be coming back to it again and again. Very happy to have backed this 2 years ago on kickstarter! The game was made by a tiny team, and they did an incredible job considering!
I’m glad you enjoyed the review and the game! I still have more to unlock via conquest too. I would have backed this title (had I known about prior) in a heartbeat!
I saved and saved til i got the F-16, then saved more til i could get the F14 and F15 - all my childhood favourite fighter planes!
Looks identical to ace combat lol
But it's fking ORANGE 🍊
The word "Aircraft" can be used singular or plural.
Hey Will. It's me, your cousing.
Let's go bowling some time.
ORANGE TIME GAMERS
Patch 1.01 reduced the orange a little my gamer
no checkpoint in a level?
Yea it's pretty balanced, not like twenty enemy jets are all locking onto me all at once and sending a hundred rockets all at me.
it's too bad the devs completely abandoned this game
Heh.
The plural of aircraft is aircraft (with no S).
This game is on gamepass and it's great!
Thanks for mentioning this
Story isnt memorable? I have nightmares of crimson 1 and orange. And wetdreams of diplomat yelling at crimson.
Is this game based on the Wingman novel series? :)
does it have cringe dialogues? it s why i like ace combat
So cringe it comes right around to being great. I have to admit that as good as this game looks playing an Ace Combat like game without an Ace Combat like story sounds kinda bland.
It would be a hollow experience without the nonstop melodrama
Short, into the point and with information that matters. Great review man I liked it.
Also I discovered the game by accidend on the xbox one store, so now I think is the time for purshare.
Ibut canu roll... gave up on ace combat after 20 mins I almost snapped my stick trying to roll but no just bank an yank shit I'm used to playing dcs IL 2 an the like ..been on dcs since black shark ...wat a game
Looks good, hopefully it comes to Playstation :) .
Don’t know if you’ve heard it has come to PS5.
@@smokeldogg I have, though pity it's PS5 only and not coming to PS4 and the PS5 is still way too dear!
The PS5 should have had a significant discount by now, certainly with the new slim model coming but as we know it's not! 😯😂🩲😀🤘
I wish it supported TrackingIR.
Sees great game/review and gets excited. Learns it is only for PC... and gets sad
imagine having console
It's on console now.
**Get it.**
It's Ace Combat in VR
Are there any drones as enemies? These ruined Ace Combat 7 for me.
No drones, and no enemies that pull maneuvers you physically can't follow. If you see an enemy do something, you can do the same thing if you're flying the same fighter.
It is memorable
Simulator certainly not
What do you call Moving in 3 Dimensions as well as Elements like Landing/Take-off Proceeders and Heads Up Display Info ?
It's called Simulator Like Elements
This man doesn't even mention Prez
It's now on gamepass
Wingman is the best Ace Combat since 4. Even the controls are mapped as old Ace Combat games. Amazing.
This isn't a flight simulator, it's an arcade flight game
He said that in the video...
@@runnergo1398 It was literally the first thing out of his mouth.
@@runnergo1398 ??? simulator was the reviewer's word and he's dumb for using it.
@@runnergo1398
"Project Wingman is a combat flight simulator."
Those were his first seven words. It is not a flight simulator. It's a flight arcade game.
@@kappatalism6969
Seems to me that Runner has the reading comprehension level of a two year old...
The plural of "Aircraft", is "Aircraft". Not Aircrafts.
Yep this remind me of Ace combat.
FEAR THE ORANGE
I NEED THIS GAME IN MY CONSOLE NOW !!! PLEASE DEVS !!! DO THE RIGHT THING...
Sorry my guy, it's not really a matter of "the right thing" the game was pretty much produced by one dude with some assistance from another dude plus the Music composer and voice actors.
@@RogueBipolarDemon Well fingers crossed they come out with it on console. I don't see why not. It did well on steam next to cyberpunk, people want it on console, and the developers dont seem to be ruling it out.
@@josephwhitaker2987 it's out on console, did you get it yet?
This game is honestly amazing my brother downloaded it and playing this game is super realistic and graphics are fantastic the game is challenging and so fun definitely my type of game
Joystick or controller? How about real gamers that use Keyboard and mouse? No cut scenes??? This is a bonus. Sitting on your arse watching "cut scenes" isn't gaming.
I bought the new Ace combat abd refunded it because the multi player was so bland.
Is there multiplayer on this game?
Nope, there's 0 multiplayer.
@@MaHaL1337 damn
@Sigmund Bosch this
I'm glad there's no multiplayer. Way too many games are designed around balancing things for MP, and not focusing on the single player content enough.
there's conquest mode tho as a substitute (for the time being)
“Mixed visual settings” everything is orange!
So basically ace combat😂😂
Game Pass for free!
The story wasn't quite memorable for me neither, but I'll take an okay story over a bombastic one with plotholes visible from space anyday.
Maxor did it better
this looks like a copy of ac7
The game runs like shit for 24.00 why the maker does not come out with updates not realy sure steam has lots of game that run like this realy slow aloe don’t run at all only one that runs is gta5 then that gets really old quick too
Its pretty clear this guy hasn't finished the game.
Good Job making "triple a" PA devs look Bad 👍
And the fact that PA or Bamco or whoever, won't Make Ace7 Better with updates like Replay Viewer in menu and update Replay Angles, or Movable parts in Hanger Or Color Customization ! etc. instead of nerfed super planes and stupid Skins that are a ripoff
It looks worse than AC7 visually, which I thought it wouldn't. Will play nevertheless, love me some flight games
believe me , just play it and u'll love more than any ace combat games
Ace6 still is best with visuals
it looks exactly like ace combat but less memorable anime fun
remembers in orange
this looks like shameless AC7 ripoff...
DO NOT BUY : LIES : BROKEN GAME : SONG AND HUMBLE ARE HIDING BEHIND THERE POLICY TO STEAL THE MONEY : GAMERS UNITE AND SUE THEM FOR FALSE ADVERTISING!
Is it multiplayer?
No, project wingman has no local couch play or online competitive play
