Have you ever wondered what it would be like to life in a magical Spanish village? Well, this video is all about Spanish food, Spanish village life, and Spanish culture. Thanks to Laura & Esme of Esmetours (esmetours.com), over the course of a weekend we roast a baby goat in a traditional oven, we eat rice with rabbit and quail, we explore the beautiful stone houses and we even get to hear Spanish bagpipes! All in a gorgeous, dreamlike village called Pozos.
I was invited to Pozos by Laura & Esme of Esme Tours who run gastronomic retreats (including Spanish cooking classes) in a village in the northern Spanish province of Leon. So if you're planning to travel to Spain anytime soon, definitely check out their experiences at esmetours.com and follow them on Instagram at @esmetours!
Also in this video are my friends and co-founders in Devour Tours Lauren Aloise (Spain blogger at www.spanishsabo...; @spanishsabores) and Alejandro Cabrera. They recently bought an old stone house in the village and they're going to do it up. So we explore their ruin as well!

My father was born somewhere in the north of Spain but emigrated to the Dominican Republic during the Spanish civil war. I was born in DR but always considered myself very Spanish. Someday I'll go explore los pueblecitos and seek out my roots. Great video, poor little goat.!

@Clive Cookie , not really. Nowhere in Spain people is that fond of food that really sets your mouth in fire, but anyway, most well-known varieties of spicy peppers are from Navarre, Galicians have pimientos del padrón. I once bought a botillo in León and it was a spicy one...
I'm from Extremadura and I don't think food in the Southern half is more spicy.

Thank you for these videos! My wife and I have been to Spain twice. The first trip was "just" Barcelona and Madrid (with a quick trip to Toledo) but fell in love with the country! So we went back after a few years and on that 2nd trip, we made sure to go deeper into the culture and cuisine. From Madrid (w/ Segovia day trip), we drove to the South of the country and explored Seville, Arcos de la Frontera (loved this small village), Ronda, the Costa del Sol, and finished the trip in Granada! The best two weeks of our "travel life." Watching your videos, I believe it's time for a third visit to our Happy Place 😊 Cheers!

Try Catalonia, Valencia and Balear Islands, they are the most visited zones and with great and diverse gastronomy. Also if you like villages, look for noncoastal hotels, usually called "rural tourism", and visit the coast from there it will be cheaper and you will enjoy the 2 worlds.

I too agree. Reminds me of one of my most memorable moments in Galicia. I had driven to Muxia to see the clean up after the oil spill. It was an uncharacteristically hot summer day. I was driving the unmarked road along the coast, heading toward Carballo. Ahead I saw an old man walking very slowly in the heat. I stopped and asked, in Spanish, if he would like a ride to his destination. He accepted. He had noticed unfamiliar license on my car (French.) He first asked where I was from. I answered, that I was from a long distance away. He response was Ourense (the adjoining province.) I said no, much further. He responded France? Again I said much further. He then said well tell me what could be further. When I said the US, he said that had never seen or met anyone from the US and that this was a great moment for him! It made me feel very humble and with appreciation for him and his life. Soon we came to a gravel turn off and he said it was his road. As I began to turn to take him up the hill, he said, no don't drive up, you might damage your car. We said goodbye as I watched him ascend that long driveway that I am sure he had climbed 100s of time before. I remember it often. These are experiences that you do not have traveling the autopistas!

I'm a Spaniard. And like me, i see a lot of your audience is spanish aswell, quite interesting. I love your work. And appreciate your effort to spread a little of the autenticity of our gastronomy. I think we spaniards have a litte low self esteem in regards of how little the world knows about the quality of our food and products. Compared for instance with france and italy. It seems we didn't do too well promoting our products as they did. So thank you for that. On the other hand. Since we are starting to sell more and more high quality ham overseas it seems it is getting more difficult and expensive to get the quality stuff in Spain. I gess there is always a downside in everything :)

Please take one of those old stone houses and make it yours, we will call it 'La casa del inglés' and it will remain like that for generations. People will wonder why and only a few of us will now why. Other englishmen have visited our country like Tolkien or Orwell and I think is your destiny to be among them. Write books about us, or just keep doing UA-cam ) , but keep with the good work my fellow countryman.

He nacido y he vivido siempre en Barcelona. Clima duro y gente tremendamente noble.

I found out that Pozos is only a pedania of Truchas in the province of León with a population of around sixty souls. I am surprised that it has such a sophisticated butcher's. Even Truchas, which has just 413 inhabitants, would surprise me to have such a large meat establishment. I would imagine a butcher's like that to be in a town of at least a thousand souls. Did you go to a larger town like Ponferrada to film that part?

All my ancestry comes from the region of Leon: my parents, grandparents, great grandparents... as far as we can remember. It was the generation of my parents that move to the city and I was raised there, but its a bit like you said at the start of the video, everyone (or almost everyone) here in spain has a "pueblo" or village to come back. Even tho I was raised in the city I used to expend my summers with my grandparents, the cows, the chickers, the tractor of my uncle, las higueras, los nogales (I dont know how that translates); and not only the summer but also christmas, semana santa, etc. So I´ve always felt like im a bit from there and its very "normal" for me, its part of day to day life its "el pueblo". So its very very curious to see how a foreigner, not even a spanish speaker, sees us. Not the big cities, not the flamenco, not the tapas, not the monuments not the tourist destinations and beaches that everyone visits. Just the true old way of life that almos every spaniard has experienced almost once but from a total diferent perspective. I really liked the video, and I really like how you see things and how you express yourself. Keep making videos like this, please. A big hug.
