To anyone wondering if they are too old to play competitively. I started playing the game when I was almost 35, with basically no RTS nor competitive gaming experience. 7 years later, I still have fun (sometimes....) in mid-diamond.
I'm 32 and just starting to actually try to play and I can see that after each game I really try, I get slightly better. Thank you for the added hope, my friend!
Worrying less about age ... more about talent. Have played countless games vs. AI ... but can't get past harder AI level because my brain is just unreliable when it comes to executing a build order.
I can tell you, when you are young you might have more time, but you can spend years playing "the wrong thing" over and over and reinforcing your bad habits. So there's nothing that conscious learning can't achieve... no matter when you start.
Would love to see a Low APM Lowko vs Winter. 60APM cap. If you go over the APM cap, you lose 1 point. So if you win, but go over, you don't gain a point. First to 5 points wins.
Would be fun but it would get waaay too meta. There are many defensive compositions that can be properly managed at a bafflingly low apm and you just naturally have high apm going up against it. It could never go into any reasonable early aggression, so it would just evolve high economy expensive mech/skytoss armies A moving at each other after purposefully waiting out the apm spike from simple unit production.
Dear Winter, I actually do use your videos to fall asleep, but they are among very few things that help me and your voice is amazing. As a payment, I have reached diamond as a zerg and I keep playing. Thank you for your videos.

Okay, elite AI will straight up take every base on the map and go tank/bc/ghost with upgrades if you don’t out macro it, so I’m gonna say yes, better than most gold league players
I did my placement matches, and got placed in Gold (I am not gold, for SURE). But I took your advice, did my 25 matches. I'm at 1800MMR but I was still losing a fair amount. I left my league, did five more placements and got into Silver 3. And now it seems like I'm playing people more my skill level. So thanks for that advice!

A few months ago I decided to get ranked for the first time despite having SC2 since WoL, I practiced off the AI and after beating elite AI most times, I placed into Plat. So I agree that it's about gold/plat comparison (at least on NA)

That was my first introduction too, my Dad bought it for me so I could practice until I was old enough for PC 😂 hard to believe that was actually a thing, I totally forget sometimes!
I’ve only been playing for two weeks. The AI on Very Hard is good practice for me. It makes me play better on ladder. If I’m not macroing well and don’t max out by 9 minutes the AI comes and kills me. Also sometimes they go for an early timing attack. The AI scouts like a madman.
The AI scouts like a guy with map hack, I tried some proxy shenanigans against it and it always finds the proxy way before you can get a unit out of it 😁
I’ve been playing for two weeks. First RTS game and I just beat Elite AI for the first time with Zerg. Zerg seems harder for us noobs. If I had tanks or Skytoss I feel like it would have been easier
I always hear "timing attack" or "max supply before attacking" and of course that makes a lot of sense. But as a fellow APM challenged person, I find that other times are fine to attack as long as you have a fast army or only bring fast units. For example, sometimes I get a horrible supply block or I am momentarily caught up on all my macro tasks or spot a fresh enemy expo, and I can spare some time/attention/actions on an attack. If I try this with a unit like Thors, this is often a huge mistake. But stim marines or hellions can often find a soft spot, and/or get out with little damage. Just a thought. I'm Gold league with all 4 race choices, 60s APM with P and T, 80s with Z.
I've been watching your Low APM series, and started playing with the 3 races, trying them out. I Used to play as zerg back a couple years ago, and i always felt this strange thing, even after a few dozen games with protoss, it still feels "hard" to play, like i forget to build probes, i almost always lose, but when i play zerg, it feels OP as fuck, like, it is ridiculous how much easier ZERG feels, did you feel something similar or heard of similar stories? i know the races are "balanced", but in my experience, zerg feels like it is 4x stronger than protoss, FOR ME, i got diamong in my first time actually playing and ranking in about 50 games with zerg. and i loose miserably as protoss in silver, i really don't like terran so i am silver too with it, but for some reason, protoss is too hard for me, zerg gameplay just flows, i just won recently a game with it, and it felt amazin, focusing on your instructions, focus on macro, 2 bases, produce more tech and less gateway, built colossi, imortal, and stalkers, againt marine marauder tank and some vikings, and it worked somehow, MORE shit counters LESS shit right?
That’s just finding your race dude lol. Zerg feels incredibly easy to me, protoss feels the easiest, and Terran I can’t use to save my life. It’s all a matter of perspective and your play style!
Zerg is simple becuz their production is there hatches/nexus.. and they can literally make ne unit relative to number of larvae.. like. The fact that the spire is 200/200.. is actually FREE. lol. When u co.pare the fact that for terran to make even 6 vikings at 1 time. Theyd need 3 starports with reactors... Shit doesnt compare evenly. But ya, i agree. That the game is quite balanced in my exp
@@lfgamble3924 none of that is why Zerg feels easy and Terran feels difficult, it’s their army play style. With Zerg I can maneuver around the map and encircle the other play whilst counter attacking at the same time, Terran is a lot more about proper positioning and slow pushing with the right vision and scans and I’m just not good at it, or at least not as good as I am with Zerg or Protoss. Terrans armies are ridiculously powerful but they’re also super fragile and I think they’re the easiest to throw the game with especially in the late game.

Here's a thought, Some kind of plugin or mod that makes it so every time you make an action in game, It blocks actions for 2.5 seconds. or something tedious like that
I'm not him but i wouldn't recommend it at all for lower levels. It's much harder to hold any amount of agression with those builds and in general standard builds better fundamentals which you can use for 3cc when you're better. Im masters 3 and i don't go 3cc because i fail to spend the money fast enough while harrassing.
Winter, its specifically light units that archers do more damage too. So doesn't that include other archers and light cav and spear and for HRE the aoe melee unit? Not just spears, when youre talking about the way AOE counters work.
Metal Leaguers (myself included): I'm not very good, so I will do a silly rush strat and work very hard in the first five minutes then flop completely if my first five combat units do not wipe the enemy. GM's: Bro, just macro. More stuff is the counter. Metal Leaguers (again, me): I hate all these cheese strats I keep having to deal with. It's so annoying.
As I've moved up from high Bronze to high Gold this year, I'd estimate Elite AI at low-mid Gold if you don't try to exploit it. Not that anyone asked me.
I find it impossible to memorize the initial steps of the build order. Sounds so reasonable that understanding the basic idea is what is important ... but when you miss one of the steps everything falls apart.
I don't know why people think it's so hard to balance the game. EZ! Just remove marines, marauders, ghosts, and BC's from the game and it should be fine. GLHF!
How did you get more build options for the Elite ai? I only have like 5 basic ones it lets me choose. EDIT: turns out only legacy of the void maps let you pick the advanced options for ai build.
He said cuz they took a 3rd. And Winter hadn’t landed his 3rd and had a good amount of army. So based on the balance of army vs economy, he needed to punish his opponents eco spike with the army and upgrades he had been building. Otherwise his opponent(who had not built as much army based on the fact that he was eco booming) would get away with it and catch up.
Do you think something like a "Meaningfull actions per minute" (mapm) would be usefull to players? It would only count a few select actions like starting an upgrade or making a unit.
That's kind of the point of EPM (Effective actions Per Minute), but it's kind of subjective deciding what a meaningful/effect action is, and difficult to count
The ai is broken where you can't play a game that is similar enough against humans. Its either hold out on defense to wipe out their army when they attack your third or natural or cheese for easy win. I found no easy in between playing a normal build order with typical harass & pressure.
Problem is that hellbats count as 2 units in the medivac while hellions only count as one. I'd imagine that there wouldn't be enough space in the medivac for quick enough healing to justify it but it sounds cool honestly
How would you recommend teaching someone, a girlfriend for example, who doesn't like watching a 3hr long UA-cam video ( no offense she just ain't gonna sit through that) Starcraft 2? I've played a few AI games with her, but it's mostly just me beating the hard AI 2v1. With her just base building and maybe having 50 units at 11 minutes. I've told her a build, given her some tips, but she isn't really enjoying it as much as I did when I was learning the game. Any tips on this?
Explore other games. StarCraft takes passion and commitment and most of us still never get good... If both of those aspects are missing for her she'll likely grow to actively resent gaming with you.
Makes me want to play terran instead of protoss. I have 1k games against Elite A.I. if you treat it like human player its a low plat player, you beat it always if you let it, it will just attack your static defence and you can go and kill it 95% of games.
Maybe it's low plat by its ability to follow build order and maintaining economy. His micro is at ~gold. Everyting else is bronze. He doesnt harass, he a-moves his entire army to defend etc. Doesn't really compare to a real player
@@fritt_wastaken True enough, altho as I was too scared to play against human after beating and losing tho A.I. for around 1k games I smashed everything below low diamond
Year late but 3 per patch. 24/16 really only applies if all minerals are still on base. The count does NOT include MULEs they reach over but do not stack on other MULEs.

Yeah, that's where the repetition comes in; your mind can't keep track of all; it's in your fingers.
@@noodlenate been paying forever and still cannot memorize builds no matter how much repetition .

I don't know why people think it's so hard to balance the game. EZ! Just remove marines, marauders, ghosts, and BC's from the game and it should be fine. GLHF!
Remove Protoss too. It would be great!
1:08:23 "I'm a terran. All my units except my best one are ranged"
Hellbats???
SCVs
How did you get more build options for the Elite ai? I only have like 5 basic ones it lets me choose.
EDIT: turns out only legacy of the void maps let you pick the advanced options for ai build.
Played against AI until I could beat all levels consistently. Placed into Plat 2 only playing for a week or so as Terran
30:35 I feel offended. Because it is true. Haha..
What was the main factor to attack early against the protoss? Normally you say wait till your maxed out.
In other words, it was his power spike moment vs his opponents greedy moment.
Do you think something like a "Meaningfull actions per minute" (mapm) would be usefull to players? It would only count a few select actions like starting an upgrade or making a unit.
It would be, and it exists, except only for observers in replays, so no one bothers looking at it.
That's kind of the point of EPM (Effective actions Per Minute), but it's kind of subjective deciding what a meaningful/effect action is, and difficult to count
@@MrGeorgeFlorcus Yeah I wrote this like minutes before Winter adressed it.
The ai is broken where you can't play a game that is similar enough against humans. Its either hold out on defense to wipe out their army when they attack your third or natural or cheese for easy win. I found no easy in between playing a normal build order with typical harass & pressure.
34:12 and that's why banes are broken. the only reason he was behind is he sent too many to kill too few units.
I saw in the previous episodes that SCVs can repair units in a medivac. Could hellbat pushes utilize SCVs in the medivacs to heal them?
Problem is that hellbats count as 2 units in the medivac while hellions only count as one. I'd imagine that there wouldn't be enough space in the medivac for quick enough healing to justify it but it sounds cool honestly
Hi everyone. So what am I doing wrong? When I select AI I do not nearly get the options to choose from as shown in this video.
my son isn't allowed to play 1on1 ladder yet (since people cannot behave) but I guess he would be silver if he did. He defeats elite AI though...
How tf did u know i was abt to sleep to this HAHAHA ayts gnyt
What apm is this at roughly ? Struggling to get to 60
Custom game isn't like "vs ai" to me, like from the actual vs menu. That AI feels way harder, and I never see any videos on it.
My strategy against Elite AI is to drop 20 BCs on their heads. AI go boom.
Thank you for the Ukrainian accent commentator. Nice touch Evan!
Also elite ai on average has 330 apm, thats kinda high for gold
most exciting moment ever! 3:11:45 I think I even cried...
special roach operation lol
This is fun.
what is the cutoff for oversaturation? it's 24/16 right?
Year late but 3 per patch. 24/16 really only applies if all minerals are still on base. The count does NOT include MULEs they reach over but do not stack on other MULEs.
