Respect for posting this so quickly. It's nice to see that I am not alone in my frustration. I spent a hefty amount in pentamelding and purchasing some last-minute mats, but with the prices how they are now, I am definitely taking a huge loss. Can't believe how bad the undercutting was, I'm just dumb founded that some folks would willing give up millions in profit just to have their items sell "quicker".

The issue with hoping people don't undercut is that it's classic prisoners' dilemma. Either everyone is in on it, or it falls apart. There are just too many people to hope and plead with to not aggressively undercut and it really just takes a couple doing it for the masses to follow. It's not a realistic goal or request, sadly.

Also the fact that people are biased toward there own experience. They are more then happy to always buy the cheapest price. But get mad when somebody undercuts them.
It's just a different strategy going for quantity over quality. Or maybe they are just dumb or just like selling things for cheap to help people out.

Huge unseen reason, the buyers, im not gunna buy gear at 3-4 mil a pop when i know in 4-5 hours its gunna be 400k. people only pay what they thinks its worth. market demand is real as soon as it hit 500k on my server ppl started buying we have had patch drops for 5 expacs ppl know to wait now

To the undercutters on the MB -- Look at the sales history of items on the MB and see that that the demand is there for many items (tons of sales per hour). If the demand is there (eg. current price is 1million, last sales prices are also 1 million) there's no need to undercut the current price substantially. Knocking 10k-500k+ off of 1 million is SO unnecessary when ppl are buying at 1 million. If you undercut, keep it relatively close to the last price listed. Otherwise, you not only lose out on your own profit but you're hurting other players sales in the process and tanking the market.

I kinda knew this was going to happen, I spent too much time on MB over the holidays and I saw how the current market is crazy, its a buyers market now the undercutting is too much.
Thats when i decided to not level my crafter and im just gathering stuffs. And the reason why i do that is, gathering is easy, you do other stuffs while whacking those rocks and trees. So if you get undercut, meh, i spent very little effort to it. You dont even need pentamelds to gather and its quick. Less risky than crafting especially when you buy the limited mats from tomes, that could be the point where you will lose money bcs people undercut your gears to the point where you lost more buying mats than you make.
If people undercut my gathering mats like crazy, i can just hold on to them since mats are always going to be needed. If its undercut by 50% im still gonna sell them due to how easy it is to get them. It keeps my sanity in check. Not much but its honest work while avoiding getting undercut by literal millions, mats undercut are what? 2k lol

Materials aren't able to be gathered as high quality, but you can craft high quality crafted materials. Like Lumber, ingots, bars, nuggets, etc. This helps the crafters if you are an omnicrafter like me. It helps you max out crafting and makes gil where the end item crafters don't have to worry about becoming omnis to get specialized materials.

The issue is SE has educated people how to craft. Firmament created a leveling system where you HAD to craft rather than the handing of leves.
Plus Materials have the highest fixed value they ever had with leve giving crazy gil.
The fact crafters have a lot of gil (hello coffee biscuits) it's created a ecosystem that breeds masses of omnicrafter that profit off other crafters.
When new recipes came out that targeted none crafter the ratio of crafter to none crafter has gone up exponetially meaning there is less of a market for each crafter.
The undercutting... telling people not to will probably lose them gil not save them gil. I do understand why ya don't like but in a market where the demand to supply ratio is low it's unreasonable to expect people to not sell thing that cost 100k+ to make for 200k-300k.

The market board has always been like this since Shadowbringers, to be honest. There was oversupply and the ease or difficulty of crafts is a non-issue since all crafts have been boiled down to macros since Stormblood. I've been doing sales via pre-orders and direct sales instead of the market board since the last crafted set in Stormblood and easily make 200 mil or more the first couple of days every time crafted gear drops, including 6.05. Then I just chill until the next set. It also helps to have a good relationship with people to supply the tome mats for you for a small cut, as well as a buddy crafter or two if you have a large volume of these orders. The key is the preparation before the patch. Stockpile materials and take pre-orders. Make friends with day 1 savage raiders and you'll have plenty of clients.

This is my first expansion where i focused on crafting and not relying on the marketboard.
So as a fairly new omni crafter im delighted that the recipes aren't that hard. On the other hand i do like to make gil.
After all, omni crafting was a massive source of income for a decade now and i think the devs want to close this source of income by making crafting something more casual and accessible.

My own crafter gear was fairly basic, just melds stacking control with no overmelding at all - fine for the normal 560 crafts. I struggled with the new master recipes, and had to overmeld a little (4/5) to get the stats I needed to comfortably craft the new recipes. On my server, Unicorn, I was disappointed after all the effort to make the new gear, it sold with little margin over just buying the mats. Whelp.. I knew I wouldn't be able to play at launch, but with your guidance still hoping to make some profit later today. Once realized what happened was still able to sell off most of mats at good prices. Doing the other stuff like hoarding materia and maps made it so still way in the positive. So thank you for that! As a newcomer to crafting, maybe a good spot for crafting the new gear would be a safe melder would have to be relatively lucky to get it HQ (like 1/5-10) where a pentameld would get it HQ every time. So the crafter could risk losing extra mats to get HQ. Would also possibly keep mats more valuable. Again very new crafter just my initial thoughts.

I was selling rings earlier and the price tanked so many times. It's so frustrating. It was completely unnecessary amounts of undercutting, too, 50k, 150k, just what the hell. I spent so much time and money doing pentamelding preparing for this, spent a bunch of time trying to decide which job I wanted soul of the crafters on, talked to people I knew about exchanging mats and gear because we'd have different experts, and even my worst melded stuff can easily do all the recipes. Hell, I just ended up making myself a full set even though I was going to wait until tomorrow, because prices can't even go down that much more, it's like 100k for some pieces.

Personally, this is just a sign that pentamelding needs to die. It's such a strange aspect of this game. Most things are so formulaic, and then there's pentamelding. Is my new ring going to cost one million gil or thirty million gil for the same end result? Tune in next time on suicide watch Z. There's no way to reduce the risk and normalize the process. Possibly lowering the entry barrier, but also removing macros might make crafting a more long term deal. It might also affect bots.
After seeing the mess of prices on the MB, I decided I wasn't going to turn my safety melds into mid melds to craft, and instead just started offloading my materials for premium gil. I made 25m selling materials which is double what I had hoped to make from crafting, so it worked for me. I'll probably just stick to gathering next tier and not even worry about crafting.

I love to craft and have been doing it since ARR and to see how it is now and that people do take it as a joke really bothers me. All I hear people saying is oh I just need the macro, or crafting is brain dead ect. I would like to see SE really put some thought and time into crafting and come up with better ways to challenge the crafting community and keep us interested. Since that's a hard-coded bottleneck requiring non-crafting activities. Most of the new crafters likely share similar guides/websites/streamers between them with the common knowledge for crafting this tier of content. So I assume the end consumers are many of the DIY types, rather than the theoretical savage raiders with large pockets and no crafting buddies. Also means more people will get burnt out quicker on crafting and some stability will occur until the next patch. The real gil makers are just another layer or two deeper then....(i.e. maps and FC's?).
