  • Part 2 of the Hitachi Zaxis 135US Excavator paint and weathering video, in which I finish Hasegawa's excellent 1/35 kit after taking it up to the initial weathering stages in Part 1
Using a limited palette of products including Mig Ammo, Vallejo and Humbrol I tried to replicate the following effects:
    - Dry Dust on the upper part of the model
    - Dry and Damp Mud on the tracks/running gear
    - Wet effects to add texture to the mud
    - Chipping and scratches on the orange base coat
    - Oil/fluid leaks on the hydraulics and articulated sections
As always if you want to know anything at all or have any feedback please drop a comment, I do my best to reply to everyone
If you haven't already then please subcribe, and also head over to my facebook page and drop me a like on there. I post a lot of work in progress, always love a chat as well!
hope you've enjoyed this build, nice to get another model finished so soon after the King Tiger - I hope this is the start of a really good year for the channel
    all the best

I came for the King Tiger videos, and stayed for this excavator! The bucket, dozer blade, and the multi-toned seat, and the dust and mud effects are real standouts in this build! I agree that an empty coffee cup, with some snack-wrappers on the floor of the cab and crammed in beside the seat would be a fantastic addition. The wet blending techniques you used with the oil and grease effects worked out fantastic as well. Thank you for sharing your talents.
    Best regards,
    Brendan

Really enjoyed the weathering on this one.
I really identified with that dust effect 'mistake' you were kicking yourself over. It's funny how we can obssess about an issue that 'we know is there' but still know that nobody viewing the model will ever notice it. As the saying goes "the difference between a good artist and a great one is how well you hide your mistakes" and to my eye you smashed it :)

    • @ScaleModelMedic
      @ScaleModelMedic  3 роки тому +1

Thanks. I really appreciate it, it's weird that we obsess over these things I agree but at the same time I think this is what pushes each of us to get better. I always like to highlight my mistakes or bits I don't think I did well in my videos in the hope that it normalises them with other modellers. Editing could have removed the mistake from the video and I doubt anyone would notice but I am just cheating myself doing that.

That is absolutely phenomenal! Some amazing techniques that really make me consider my own weathering and how I can better my model railway weathering. Particularly love the dirt textures you’ve used and the depth you’ve achieved with the scratches. Looking forward to seeing some more models soon

    Great job Jon.
I thought the 3 D effect you achieved on the drivers seat in part one was really good with paint alone.
The mud applications in this part were really well done also.
Its good to see you're uploading to your channel again.
I noticed I still have a video of yours adding stowage to the back of a Sherman from years ago in my bookmarks.
Good work Jon all the best stay safe hopefully more from you soon.

Thanks Steve, man that stowage video is a very old one now... Those were the days. I have already done 2 videos and finished a model this month... That's more than the entire of 2018 and 2019 combined and equal to the whole of 2020, so hopefully I can maintain my momentum!! It is sad to see traffic so low on the channel after all that effort years ago but I will keep plugging away and hopefully get noticed again soon 😊

Hi yes it's not the most straightforward kit but hasegawa have really done well with the kit its mostly just awkward to sequence, but I admit I'm glad to have it done, it's fragile and every day on the vg ch was another day closer to getting broken!

It would make a great subject and look even better if you keep it subtle like a big hole and a couple of figures standing over it peering in.
I have this kit to build and if my memory serves me right I think it is 1/35 so figures should be abundant.

Some amazing weathering on this one. Even the "mistake" on the corner looks like someone brushed up against the dirty vehicle or cleaned a chunk of mud off.
One thing I noticed is the top of the bucket seems a bit too clean. It could use a bit of the chunky dried mud there too.
