The Black Dahlia Murder - Statutory Ape Playthrough

- Опубліковано 23 вер 2024
- Enjoy a low production value hotel room jam of Statutory Ape! Did my Patreon lesson this week on all my parts including the solo. Also with an entire slow speed playthrough at the end of the full lesson!
A couple nights before the tour I sawed off a cutaway into this old travel guitar to access the high frets better, hahah! It still isn't the easiest guitar to play. And my little Donner practice amp doesn't sound too great, but enjoy anyways, working with what I got!

These riffs created lifelong fans…so sick
i mean, no metronome, no backing track. what a G.
no body and no headstock either 😂
I wish there wasnt cloths! 😉😉
@@BirdOfHermes83 that's how he plays in the green room before shows. plays with his cock as well. on the guitar, not just playin with the willy.
Muscle memory on fleek
He makes it look completely effortless too lol.
I feel like Brandon's one of the only guitarists with the balls to do one-take playthroughs without any backing track/with just camera audio
it really just shows how fucking precise of player he is. Fucking unreal
So true, it's a rare case to see such playthroughs. This guy pulls it off perfectly
Jason Richardson as well
Still my favorite replacement after Kampien! Miasma album is the best!
Ever heard of Shannon?
For real. So many guitarists will hide behind tracks and stuff (I'm guilty, the only videos I've posted are me miming to the studio tracks lol). He's just that good
I’ve never seen someone tremolo pick so effortlessly.
Because he's not really changing up his technique much like a lot of people do. So many guitarists try and develop a 'trick' tremolo technique instead of just building up the speed of their traditional alternate picking. It's also why his sounds so much more precise than most, cuz he's not just blazing as fast as his hand/wrist can go, it's controlled. Obviously this is the harder way, requiring more effort and time, but it gets better results.
@@maynardburger it’s true. my angle of attack and pick grip change when i trem pick. hazards of teaching yourself to play 😬
I listened to Dean, Lamb and Misha Mansoor talk about strings and guitar tone and they mentioned how wide open your vibrato is. And I couldn't agree more. It's rad
Where did you listen to this please?
@@bingefeller ua-cam.com/video/YNIxwHRjGhE/v-deo.html
I can't hear the word vibrato with immediately thinking of Brandon Ellis. WeEeEeEeEeEw
@@bingefeller here you go man:

@@bingefeller ua-cam.com/video/YNIxwHRjGhE/v-deo.html
Man he absolutely kills that solo while making it his own.
That right hand picking is soooo incredibly tight..more please 🙏
It would be interesting if Brian ever talked about how he composed that riff.
this one riff? that album is literally chalk full of these from front to start!
@@TheSadistNat1oneah, but compared to anything on Unhallowed, it’s pretty technical. Truly a step up in writing. I’d love to hear the inspiration
probably just played a bunch of castlevania
@@diabeticmonkey I saw an interview where Trevor (i think) talked anout how they didn’t know what they were doing w Unhallowed but that doing it + touring made them all better musicians
Dude, Brian is one of the unsung guitar heroes of Metal. So many of his riffs are timeless and unfuckwithable.
1:00 incredible technique. actually like this low pro version bc i can hear the pick attack and string noise better especially during those tremolo picking sections.
@@iborntobedrunk1077 nah, i've been playing 15+ years it's still impressive.
mad respect for no backing track and open air recording. \m/
The gallop/bridge section burns my wrist every time I play this song lol
play alot of songs w fast gallops and tremelo or string skipping, build up that endurance, itll rlly help you in the long run. alot of tbdm or at the gates songs will help you w your picking technique and endurance.
An actual good exercise (it was an exercise before it became a song) is to play Bleed from Meshuggah. Not the whole song, but just the picking patterns that repeat through it. It will be incredibly difficult at the start, but it will help a lot, trust me.
That whole album was when they got me. What an incredible record.
1:34 god damn so much attack on that picking tecnique, it almost sounds percussive like holy shit this man gets a full sound with just the magic in his fingertips
There in lies the secret to tone, it’s in the hands, sounds cliche but it’s true.
What are those galloping triplets?
@Lucas Varela just super precise gallops
People are afraid to play their guitar like they’re gonna break a string lol that’s always been weird to me. Gotta be strong yet precise! If I ever try to play lightly I make so many more mistakes and it sounds terrible.
he was in the zone, he was thinking about trevor as he was singing along
I hate how brutally easy you make this look... 10/10
Dude, your relaxed tremolo picking is just fucking amazing. I really need to work on releasing tension in my own playing. Gonna study the hell out of this video because it's a damn masterclass in single string tremolo picking.
Would love to see a "What a horrible night to have a curse" and everything from the Everblack album
Mouthing the words to the chorus as you play it🤘 I do the same every time I hear it as well! lol
Statutory 🦧
I really feel like you’re one of the greatest guitarists alive Brandon. Not just because of your memorable leads and solos, but the clean attack and precision of your rhythm and riffs is just staggering. Simple yet powerful videos of a classic anthem make me want to be a better player.
I listened to this 7 or 8 times in a row because its so incredibly sick! This and wormwood's feast are on heavy rotation. I love his phrasing and vibratos on the bends. Angus young has one of the best vibratos and same with Brandon. King Diamond has been one of my favorite bands because of how badass Andy Larouqe can play and it rubbed off on Brandon and thats incredible.
You are a true inspiration to me; you make this playthrough look simple, but it is anything but...love your playing! You are one of my new favorite guitarists!
You did an amazing job with the solo as usual but I'm just as impressed with your pick attack. It takes no prisoners.
This song just tickles my brain in all the right places
Your right hand is a machine!! Absolutely flawless execution. 🔥🔥
So relaxed
Are those scalloped frets or is it just the lighting?
Yes i scalloped it just a little.
this is what peak guitar playing form looks like
The beard's coming along nicely. Oh, and the playing's not too bad either 😉. ETA: Big fan of the low production values, far preferable to the edited-to-hell-and-back-play-along style of 'live video' that certain other famous guitarists like to post.
Yea, I much, much, rather something like this than the multi angle, cinematically shot, video of someone miming what they recorded piece by piece through a daw.
sir, this is a mcdonalds
What?
😂😂
@@stdavis22 what do you meanm??
@@KristianDale do you have a clue what He means?
It’s insane to me that both of the bands best lead guitarists are in the band at the same time. I wouldn’t be who I am today without Black Dahlia Murder.
Man his technique is flawless. He attacks the strings aggressively and doesn’t miss a damn beat.
You worked your ass off and shows. Never stop killing it on the guitar. Thank you for being an inspriation.
These are the best types of playthrough. Raw n rad.
777th- Great play through.
Excellent stuff! So glad you are putting lessons up on Patreon!!
Love the little bit where you sing along during the galloping part ❤
I have been aware of The Black Dahlia Murder for quite a few years now. But this is the first time i have sit down to pay attention to the performance of the song. Brandon, dude, you fucking killed it my friend! I've been playing for 36 years, and this would give me a fuckin problem lol. I could do it, but it would require me to have carpal tunnel surgery several times after the attempt lol. You gained a subscriber in me, brother. Keep shredding the sickness! \m/ ( - _ - ) \m/
i was checking about tabs for this song....now i can say thank u master for giving up the opportunity to learning the song right! Love ur ton, TBDM is love TBDM is life ❤
Brandon Ellis and Chris Wiseman have to be the best metal guitarists in the game right now. Watching the picking hand of both of them is mesmerizing. How they stay so relaxed is wild. Also, dude you just flawlessly did the solo to statutory ape in one go 😂 wtf
the riffs are insanely catchy sick neoclassical thrashy and black metal stuff
Saw this on headbangers ball and it was my introduction to death metal. 15 years later still my favorite song.
I would give a toe just to have a fraction of the precision and clarity you get. Insane musicianship.
that tone is great for a simple travel amp honestly
So sick man 🤘 hearing this song from you is an actual treat
Man, that solo was fucking gnarly - so damn good. I also love me a travel guitar. The DIY touch is nice, too, haha. Like you said, work with what ya got!
You have to be one of the best active metal guitarists right now. So butter smooth and even sounds good no backing track. I can hear the drums in my head it’s that good of a play through.
Damn I think he put his Kelly in the dryer for too long
Absolutely love it! more of this please!
OUTSTANDING It is the guitar what makes Black Dalhia so special and superior to other babds. Brandon takes the song writing seriously and pulverizes most composers
Now this is how you start the day!
Hell yeah dude. This was the first BDM song I ever heard. Saw the video on Headbangers Ball when I was in high school and went to see them like a month later. Still jamming that Miasma album 15 or whatever years later.
what a joy to watch. More please
love how he gives that extra sauce with the whammy bar
Dude just whips through the solo like a warmup exercise
Thank you for letting us join you on your journey man :)
You guys write the sickest riffs thanks so much for these playthroughs!
I love to hear these kinda "low production" playthroughs. It sounds more real, still hits the right notes. Makes me realize my playing isn't that bad, just not fully produced by some dude with a mixing board with 78 sliders on it doing black magic.
No pigs died in the making of this
More hotel room play throughs!
I'm an ambitious guitar teenager and you sir are a inspiration.
Mother of all tremolos
The best guitarist to learn to play death metal
Damn. Every pick attack is so strong.
Hotel life! I can't wait to hear new TBDM stuff! Hope it comes this year!
New material would be great but I wouldn't mind remastered versions of Unhallowed and Miasma
You guys killed it last night in Detroit having you and Ryan on stage was amazing the alternating solos.. everything about it was bad ass
That solo was so clean!
New guitarist: *throws guitar in bin*
Just incredible dude. Seriously one of my favorite sounds in all music are those notes you play between 2:38 and 2:41 of this video. That little riff dude there's just something about it. Every time I listen to it I tell everybody to be quiet right at that part lmao So although bittersweet now, Receipt might be my all time favorite. Not sure how you and the rest of the guys feel about it anymore but if you ever got around to making a video of you playing that one that would be awesome. Thanks brother
Oh man been about about 7 years since i heard this banger
Without cuts...without editons like all musicians are making their videos nowadays...
Congretulation! Respect
Cannot wait to see this guitar wizard at Download! ❤
So sick loved how you couldn’t stop from singing, still my favorite album 🤘
Classic. One of my favorites since high school 🦍
Damn. His right hand technique is incredible.
Top notch playing technique
The casual hotel playthrough \m/
REST IN PEACE TREVOR
How he just makes it look so fucking effortless is way beyond me. Incredible
I love these Raw covers, fucking legend.
fcking wild. love tbdm. many years later one of my favorite bands
Wtf that right hand crazy
such a cute wittle guitar
Legit one of the best metal guitar players holding it down right now. Love your playing man.
These quick vids are the best, thank you
One of the sickest and most memorable riffs. Nice work.
My favorite album. One of my favorite songs.
1:34 мои эмоции не описать словами когда я слышу звук аннигиляции шестой струны Брендоном..))
Thats a band ull remember till the end of your days thank you TBDM for existing RIP trevor we miss u man 🥂
One of my favorites! Thanks Brandon!
The guy in the hotel room above mine while i try to sleep:
literally one of the best guitarist around dude
Man, I have no idea how you can make those gallops look so effortless and sound so tight. If I try anything close to that speed my body completely seizes up so it's super cool seeing someone killing it with ease!!
Best metal guitarist out there right now
He effortlessly just destroyed this song while looking completely high lol
Thank you, Brandon
Making it look effortless lol sweet jeebus man
I would call it one of my favorite songs but all of them are ones of my favorites
That was way more technical then I thought it would be and that solo was gnarly!
The GOAT riff. This song made me a TBDM fan instantly : D
He’s played this many many many times. Flawless.
