This was the first ever song I'd heard from TBDM. This was when I fell in love with the band. I am heartbroken about Trevor's passing. He will always be a shiny beacon in this gloomy shitty world. Rest in Power, you will be sorely missed. 🤘❤🤘
"All the words of the preacher
All the tears of my family in vain

My penance with blood be repaid!

My grandma used to sing this to me when she was baking cookies.
Waw,,hello theree~

perfect thing to read considering.
The track that started a legacy...

Eirik Mæhlum This band will carry the torch for Death Metal when Cannibal retire.
7dayspking Deathcore has breakdowns. MANY. Breakdowns. Sometimes several per song in case you hadn't noticed mr elitist. You're pretty much saying Black dahlia murder are a "pure" deathcore band because they fit your little definition of deathcore being "late 90's suffocation with metalcore structure and tone colours". That is nothing close to what Black Dahlia is. The Black Dahlia Murder are a melodic death metal band. The chord progressions and melodies in many songs on Unhallowed are HIGHLY influenced by Swedish Melodic death metal, even though they have confidently kept that core and developed their own sound on the most recent albums.
If you're going to label every palm muted groove riff a breakdown, then the majority of death metal would have "breakdowns". Yes, Black dahlia murder have groove, but it's a death metal influence, no breakdowns.
To be honest, Cannibal are closer to being a Deathcore band than Black dahlia, who in my opinion have become more brutal, punishing and technical than Cannibal ever have been. I enjoy both bands though.
(that last paragraph was to test if you're an image before music judging elitist, even though I personally think that paragraph is true.)
I'm not arguing, just discussing :)
7dayspking Face it. Black dahlia murder is a fantastic death metal band, just because they don't look like 40 year old swedish guys with ratty old entombed shirts on doesn't mean anything. They don't need to have a certain look just to please the fearful elitists.
7dayspking And by "fearful elitists" i mean the posers who only listen to extreme metal (or claim to) and put on this whole arrogant know-it-all metal fan personality just to impress the other elitists who may not "accept" them or some pathetic shit.
RIP Trevor... Remember meeting you years ago after a show when I was first getting into this style of metal and you were funny as hell and so humble. Gone way too damn soon bother. 😥
RIP Trevor Strand. This is the song that got me hooked back in 2003 when I saw it on head bangers ball. The Metal community lost a huge part of its soul today. The 3 times I was lucky enough to see TBDM live were the best concerts I have been to.
same, this was my first exposure to the band and I loved them ever since
Same! Headbangers ball 03! Been my favorite band since.

Couldn't agree more sames
*riffs, and yes
Back when I was a kid, this was the heaviest song I had ever heard. Since then, TBDM has been my biggest musical influence and inspired me to pick up a guitar and compose metal songs. It's incredibly heartbreaking that Trevor has passed away, but his legacy has left an impression on millions of metalheads and hundreds of bands. RIP Trevor. You will be missed.
I’m happy I got to watch them live with Trevor. They played A Vulgar Picture at Mayhem fest almost 15 years ago. When that came on, ohhhhhhh man. I don’t think my blood has ever pumped so fast.
This was a moment nobody wanted to have woken up to. I was just listening to Unhallowed last night, and anticipating how fucking amazing BDM would be at Bloodstock, when this news hit me like a nuclear bomb. An amazing frontman, and all round great guy, called way too soon. RIP Trevor, we'll be cracking open a beer for you at Bloodstock.
This is the only band that I can listen to without skipping any tracks in their entire discography.

R.I.P Trevor… this masterpiece is what got me into you guys in the first place. Drove my family crazy playing the solo over and over when I first learned guitar. It was an amazing 21 years.
Damn, you're a cool dude.
If u were my big bro or little bro. I'd be rocking out with you.
I still remember finding this song when Comcast first released on demand in the early 2000s. Thanks Comcast for introducing me to unearth, Killswitch engage, and most importantly The Black Dahlia murder. Rest in power Trevor.

Unhallowed was the first death metal album I had as a kid in the early 2000s. I remember when I first watched this video and found out the guy doing the high and low screams was the same person, and my mind was blown. Trevor and TBDM were my gateway band into the heavier music scene, and they’ll always hold a special place in my life. Rest well, Trevor. You helped so many of us find ourselves.
same here man same here.. TBDM will live forever in our hearts
R.I.P. Trevor Strnad. This song really started this all for me. It will forever hold as special place in my heart.
Holy fuck this takes me back to being 14 again. That intro still melts my face 17 years later.
Haha the Relapse shirt in a Metal Blade video cracks me up.

My heart is genuinely broken. My friend got me into this band when I moved back home from Australia when I was 18. We met Trevor in Sheffield and him & Shannon had a beer with us. Amazing. Years later I saw them in Orlando and we partied hard after. Genuinely the nicest bloke I’ve ever met. Thank you for the memories, but also for being you. RIP Trevor.

This band was always so chill every time I saw them, hung out with them, drink with them etc.
Trevor you are a fucking legend in the metal community and you will be sorely missed.
REST IN POWER TREVOR
The intro tho. It gives me chills
You are so dearly loved and missed, Trevor. Rest in Power
The Black Dahlia Murder were pretty much just Americanized At The Gates during this time period, and I couldn't love them more for it!
It's crazy because most of their fans don't know anything about Swedish death metal. Dismember , carnage, Entombed , At the Gates, wombbath, God Macabre , Grave , unleashed etc...
This metal is better than most stuff today I’ve been hearing, I gotta go back to this 🤘🏼
That's what I have done
The brightest full moon light entrances me
It calls me forth
Yet i have not the strength to move
In stasis, i rot away and dream
Dream of forgotten years
Dream of the touch of another's hand
I am to be a meal of star-ved worms
My nerves are twisting for the light of my salvation
I rest beneath where i remain as cold as clay
Eternal pain is swelling in my joints
Somewhere within me a flame is slowly born
Inside this shell of bloated flesh grows life anew
Infernal, the moon distorts my mind
My veins jolt back to life, pushing the fluids of the damned
I seek to bathe my fetid flesh in crimson spray
My body writhes without consent of conscience
I lift the lid the pounds of dirt shall not subdue
I shall walk the earth once more
From beyond the strings are pulled
I know not what has made me this way
The animation of my rigid corpse
I shall abandon my coffin of premature fate
All the words of the preacher
All the tears of my family in vain
I shall again walk amongst them
My penance with blood be repaid!
Repaid!
Dead hand grasps for the still night air
I am now free to maim!
There cannot be a god for he would not forgive this
Despicable inhuman monster; rotten, twisted and deformed
I am now a tool of my unholy instinct
Entrails strewn at my bidding
A mockery of all i was
I seek to bathe my fetid flesh in crimson spray
My body writhes without consent of conscience
I lift the lid the pounds of dirt shall not subdue
I shall walk the earth once more
From beyond the strings are pulled
I know not what has made this way
The animation of my rigid corpse
I shall abandon my coffin of premature fate
All the words of the preacher
All the tears of my family in vain
I shall again walk amongst them
My penance with blood be repaid!
Repaid!

This was the first Death Metal band for me. These guys and Cattle Decapitation. You guys are awesome and Trevor would be proud that you're staying together.
Can never forget being 13 years old hearing this for the first time and absolutely changing my outlook on metal music
One of the first metal records I set out to memorize the lyrics to. 14 year old Ian wanted to be Trevor so bad. Hell, 27 year old Ian still kinda wants to! Great record, brings all the nostalgia feels

This is my least favorite but still great. Nocturnal and ritual are fucking perfect though. All good
The opening riff is one of the best for me, across all albums and songs and music i have listened in my whole life.

The song that got me into Black Dahlia. RIP Trevor.
Same. I'm too sad. Early TBDM was truly important for me in teen years. Farewell from Chile
The Black Dahlia Murder is one of the ultimate*bands in my opinion, they are the ones who got me into metal back in 2005. The death of Trevor is such a tragedy for the metal scene, its going to be hard to think about The Black Dahlia Murder without him. RIP
I doubt there will be a BDM without him. Hope the rest of the guys stick together and make a new band

This song started it all.
When i was 16 i felt in love in this music. I'm 25 now and i never dissapointed in this band! I'm still listening them, so thanks bdm for good music :)
First time listen to this in 2008. It's 2019 now. How time flies...
Flies is good too
Where it all started for me. Rip Trevor. METAL GOAT 🐐
The funny thing is the opening of Funeral Thirst was incredibly smart of them. Have a very metalcore opening with a quasi breakdown to hook the hardcore kids and launch into straightforward Swedish melo-death. How many punk and hardcore kids are now straight up death metal fans because of these guys? :)
This band never sucked and with they way Everblack sounded, they never will suck. \m/
+BEATN Abysmal just keeps them going too! Fuck ya!
Obscure Creation Abysmall was boring as fuck, and the single that came out for Nightbringers is even worse
TheKratnoff nightbringers is fucking awesome
am i the only one that don't like nightingers ? like everyone think that it is their best release since nocturnal but fuck i enjoy all of their albums a lot more then this one but maybe i should let nightbringers a chance ..
I love BDM now but this was the first track I listened to and I thought it was messy as fuck and the timing is way off, especially with the guitars. I didn't like them for a couple of years.
SHALL WALK THE EARTH ONCE MORRREEEE.... i love how he casts spells with his hand whilst he sings
Black dahlia is so damn classic
saw them 15 times on concerts, fan since 2004, most live viewed band in my life, metal head since 25 years, still under my top 3 bands, sharing so much memories related to their songs
I love how Trevor's screams evolved into the unholy unnatural screech he has today. Fucking love this band! Shannon is the best drummer by far.
Dave Lombardo or Neil Peart has her beat
He had to set himself apart from other melodeath vocalist. He sounds just like At The Gates here lol.
Um thats cory grady by far the best drummer they ever had uncalled just is a step up its a shame they had to part ways
I'm so glad I was growing up with this song.
R.I.P Trevor, you made great music that had a massive impact on me growing up... Hope you are at peace 🤘 😢
Holy shit.. they all look 12 in this video. This is back when my band was touring and we SOOOO looked up to these dudes even tho they were all like 5-10 years younger than us. All of our friends in other bands were trying to replicate A7X, Atreyu, KSE or All that Remains back in this period... but we just wanted to jam with TBDM and Amon Amarth , lol... Lamb of God kicks ass too.
So much good metal in the late 00s. I'll forever regard that as the golden age of my life. Sigh... memories

i owe my melodic taste to the black dahlia murder. They have literally evolved me musically. And this song along with elder misanthropy was the beginning of a journey i will be forever grateful for. Thank you BDM
I was a major TBDM fan. Trevor is the reason I started doing vocals way back fucking when. This album imo can't be beat. RIP Trevor. Gone but definitely never forgotten.
Trevor and Brian as youngsters. Look at what they accomplished since then... rip Trevor. TBDM absolutely one of my favourite metal bands past and present.
I remember this song from years ago...I've just recently started jamming Black Dahlia Murder again, but this is definitely one of my favorites by them.
i like this album the most.
One of my all-time favorite metal bands since the days I was in high school, with me getting into them not too long after Unhallowed came out and this was all over Jamey Jasta's Headbangers Ball. They've come a long way into their career and I'd always get their latest albums whenever they'd come out ever since, but this will always be one of my all-time favorites from the band. To say that it was saddening upon hearing the news about Trevor Strnad is a huge understatement. He was one of the most selfless people to create metal music, always promoting newer bands while also discussing about 90's metalcore and death metal staples, and during the brief time I've chatted with him when showcasing my CD collection, he even hooked me up with an mp3 copy of Verminous around the time it was released after congratulating him and mentioning that my copy was in transit. I'm glad that Brian and the rest of the band are keeping their name alive after his tragic passing, but he will never be forgotten, whether it was with The Black Dahlia Murder or his contributions outside of the band.
RipTrevor. This song was the beginning for me in the world of heavy music and my MySpace profile song for the longest. Thanks for gracing us with your unmatched talent
Talk about an absolute lyrical BEAST... I couldn't write as well as this in 2 lifetimes. Very sad to hear of his passing. I hope he found the peace in death he could not find here. RIP buddy...
