That is awesome!!!! Congrats!!! I haven't seen a flower yet but now I have hope!! On a personal note... I have no one to share with, so I'm going to share with you Jeff!! My monstera was a juvenile, solid leaves, and for the FIRST TIME EVER I GOT A FENESTRATION ON A LEAF!!! I'm so excited and thank you for letting me share. Congratulations on your Hoya flower! 🌱🌿💚
That is so awesome and congratulations on you monstera plant! It feels very rewarding when you don't kill a plant and actually see it grow how it is supposed to!
@@EverythingPlants EXACTLY! And this is why I truly appreciate your videos and sharing of your knowledge. And I also enjoy your experiments!!! Yay us!!!
I have mine hanging in a tree, all 3 of them. They are blooming like crazy. They get late afternoon sun. Maybe gets watered every 4 days unless it rains. They don't smell until the blooms are completely opened.
My pubicalyx is literally my favorite plant of all of my plants! I could never neglect it🤪. I just realized watching your video that this is probably why I haven't gotten any blooms on it! The one hoya that I have neglected the most, the linearis, is the only one I've gotten to bloom. So, your advice is probably right.
I had the sweetest surprise today! I discovered a flower on my hoya Publicalix! She sits outside and doesn't get too much attention from me other than watering from time to time. I was just thinking today that I would repot her, and discovered it. Its a tan color.
im glad you mentioned feeling the leaves to know when its time to water.. i wait until the leaf has what i call a fingernail.. along the edge on the underside you can feel this fingernail when it needs water..
I just got a publicalyx at the beginning of Sept. Originally it was looking a little dormant, but after it acclimated it’s been putting out leaves non-stop! I love it!
My mother-in-law was given a Hoya 30 years ago that I was just given a cutting of. It is a turtle splash leaf with white flowers that give off a musky smell. She has it in a NE room and waters it 1x month and puts release fertilizer in it 1x year. She is not a plant person and she says it lives inspite of her ignoring it. PS she has never transplanted it in 30 years
It's reassuring to see how well the single node cuttings do. I've been rehabbing a tiny Hoya linearis but i've been too scared to go any smaller than 2 nodes. They've been coming along, but 2x the propagation material is very tempting, lol
Congratulations on your first pubicalyx bloom, hoping it's the first of many for you! According to one Hoya group I belong to, one shouldn't identify a variety unless you got the variety name from the seller (or whoever you got it from, as not all my acquisitions were sold to me). So, in light of that, perhaps you shouldn't be calling yours a Royal Hawaiian Purple--although I'm inclined to agree that is what you have. Similarly, I have a carnosa with inner variegated leaves that looks like a Krimson Princess to me, but I have been told I really shouldn't be calling it anything but H. carnosa (inner variegated), as inner variegated Hoyas have arisen as mutations independently, some of which predate Krimson Princess. I enjoyed this video very much, as I have enjoyed many of them, and I'm glad you rescued your Chelsea.
Hey Rob. This plant was only sold as 'hoya pubicalyx'. I remember hearing a long time ago (I could be wrong) that the way to truly know which variety you have is by the flower.
Congratulations Jeff. These flowers are beautiful Sansevierias are the same I am unable to smell their flowers on days but at night it is a different story.
Another excellent video😊. I agree with Hoyas being so easy to root. In fact, I have my Hoyas in LECA but when purchased from the store, I literally chopped off all the roots and stuck stems into LECA. Now my plants have rerooted and are thriving 😁! PS... How are your ZZ plants doing? Lots of new growth this past Jan/Feb 😅? Ooooh the joys of Canadians and our Tropical plants 🤣
Flowers-Cool! Congratulations 🎉 The only Hoya I have is a Pubicalyx. Have had it for 2.5 years. It’s great but sometimes I leave it out in the sun - so…burned leaves. It’s a very full plant but doesn’t seem to grow much. I hope I get flowers soon.
I am watching your video from Taiwan.😄 Hoyas' are popular in hot tropical weather in Asia, we call the "lazy plants " , just leave it under the sun, water once a while, they grow😁
for the first time after almost a month of neglect in a south facing window, my hoya sunrise put out a long runner that has a peduncle. i'm so excited for it to be my first hoya to bloom. waiting for my retusa to catch up
I often get stems with thin leaves just as you showed with the Hoya 'Chelsea'. It usually happens when the base of the stem rots. I cut above the rot area and try to propagated in a prop box with high humidity. However, it does not always work and sometimes it takes lots of time to root. I don't know why it takes so long inspite of removing the dead stem base and the high moisture.
I just purchased a Hoya Pubicaly X Splash, it looks similar to yours. As soon as I put it off the grow light, I was afraid to put it directly under it. It seems like the splash spots came as soon as I put it near the grow light 🍃🌿🙌🏼
Hey Jean. I got this from a local shop in Regina, Saskatchewan. I'm sure you'd be able to find the Hawaiian purple online somewhere as well. Are you in Canada?
Great video Jeff, the flower is amazing on your hoya. I always learn something new from you. I Appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. The only Joya I have had flower is my 45-year-old Hoya carnosa . My other Hoyas are still young hoping for them to bloom someday
I read pubicalyx are supposed to grow fast. I got mine two months ago, have had zero growth and its in leca, in an east window from sun up til 1:30 pm.
That’s is so awesome! I can’t wait to see any of my Hoya flower. I have a Hoya Pottsi that has done anything in 1 entire year. I chopped her up to see if that stimulates growth 😏any tips?
@@EverythingPlants I recently moved mine to a west facing window. It was previously sitting in a low to mid light area in my home. Keeping fingers crossed 🤞🏼 this helps. Thank you!
Love your channel. I have a couple of hoyas and I love them. I have 2 Pubicalyx and one flowers all the time the other one has yet to bloom. Is it good to cut the runners?
I got myself a Macrophylla for my birthday in January. It did nothing until a month ago which I expected. It is now giving me new leves and the tendrils are also growing really well. i do need to water it once every 6-8 days because of it’s location in our really sunny and warm sunroom in Ottawa, Ontario. What I really need to know is how do I go about the treillis? Do I just put it in the pot and let the plant find it or do I need to train it by wrapping the tendrils around it?
I made this video trying to tackle an unruly hoya. I wrap the tendrils around the wire and you can do the same with a trellis. ua-cam.com/video/EJTVz7VwdPM/v-deo.html
Well I ordered two from Walmart to sit in pots outside that are covering a crack and it's sunny in that spot until late afternoon so you're saying I wasted my money, or perhaps I'll put a cactus there and put these on my stoop? Which is hot and sunny too. Ugh? SC
I snipped them off before as they get out of control. Some people say to leave them on for the potential of future flower peduncles, but it's not going to harm the plant if that is your worry.
It would get too overgrown to the point where it reaches down onto our faces while sitting on the couch haha. It has been pulled down a few times spilling soil. My wife said to clip it or it will disappear 🤣
@@EverythingPlants Yes I kind of figured that. I found 5 large hoop trellises , 99 cenrs each at thrift store, and have used three for my hoyas. My regular carnosa was doing the same to me. Reaching out and grabbing me and even growing up around and through open doorway into my kitchen. Now bothcan crawlaround the trellis hoop. I know your space is not right for hoops . am lucky to have lots of hanging spaces.
I kid you not guys the only hoya that bloom for me are the ones that have spider mites or mealies - of course I’m treating but ya know it happens lol! And forget to water - I see peduncles everywhere and blooms non stop - so now I’m convinced they stress bloom 😂😂😂 all the ones I love and care on me NEVER bloom
I use orchid fertilizer and my hoyas bloom constantly.
I have this in Australia and it’s called ‘Black Dragon’. Waiting for my first flowers!
Good luck....they are beautiful!!!
That's a beautiful color of the flowers. I have a 5-gallon Hoya pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' and it still not blooming. Thanks for sharing.

Do. You put water in the perlite
For the prop box...I keep the perlite wet but no standing water at the bottom of the container

Depends on your conditions. Sometimes flowers can take years, but I stress mine out to get flowers.....bright spot and let the get pretty dry.
