That Wally pot is so cool ... great way to utilize vertical real estate. I still can't bring myself to throw out plants on the struggle bus but each time you mention this strategy it *briefly* crosses my mind that I should get thicker skin. And ... BONUS! ... room for new plants. Thanks, Jeff.
I love your new fern! I like ferns too! I have a lot of success keeping them in no drainage with a leca reservoir. This allows them to stay consistently moist. And all true ferns have spindly brown roots. So that's normal. Good luck. I look forward to an update on this one!
Hi Jeff, I have that fern and it’s my easiest fern. It gets indirect light from a terrarium, I water it when it’s about half way dry. Yours looks great on the wall.
It's always fun to get a new plant! I live in basically high desert with very low ambient humidity. The only way I have been successful with ferns is in self-watering wicking pots with a water reservoir, so they have consistent moisture. Some ferns I have can tolerate a couple of days with an empty reservoir. The one exception to that is the maidenhair which I refill every other day and try to never let it go dry.
I second this! I adore mine - bought it in a 12cm pot from a supermarket and it's just been growing despite even occasional underwatering and neglect. Beautiful unfussy plant!
That is a beautiful fern! It looks a bit similar to blue star fern, Phlebodium aureum - my guess is that since structure of rhizomes and leaves is similar, it may be related. If you want a really tough fern, I recommend the blue star - it lives in my W-facing laundry room which is unheated in the winter, doesn't get supplemental light, and has low humidity, and it still does really well (as in, grows well and has gotten huge) with the occasional watering and fertilizer. Another very easy fern is a staghorn, which also does fine in about 50% humidity and occasional watering in normal potting mix (coir-based). One thing about ferns - they are among salt-sensitive plants, so it'd be good to to use an organic emulsion type fertilizer. Also, unless you have high humidity, crown wetting is not a problem, that is a bit of a myth - no ferns care about rain falling on them. The brown roots are normal, that's the color they should be. Anyway, good luck with it! I have never had one of these, but the deep emerald frond color is magnificent!
I live in the state of Florida and grew my kangaroo paw outside in a hanging pot. It grew so big (like over 3' in diameter) and took up so much space that I finally threw it out. I have also seen it growing in a botanical garden as a ground cover.
Nice glow up! I love the loop Wally grows, especially since they can sit on a flat surface. I repotted my 3 ficus into them and they love it. Right now,the rose, oat and terracotta colors are on sale for $5.00.🤩😍

Hello, I have a fairly large crispy wave fern and discovered scale on it this summer. I spent quite a bit of time removing it by hand and I’ve isolated the plant. I checked the other day and it still has scale😢. Can you tell me how you treat your fern for scale? I also have scale on my variegated schefflera and it’s a real bugger. I almost feel like tossing the fern…so many nooks and crannies but it’s one of my favorites. 🙏🪴
@@annezeigler5982 Thanks I’ve been trying to find a systematic but they won’t deliver to my area. I hate to toss it but maybe I’ll just have to. My research said to try alcohol soaked cotton ball leaf by leaf, neem oil or insecticidal soap. My bay laurel and lime tree also had scale and I spray with neem but I know it’s probably coming back one day. My rabbit foot ferns haven’t had scale, or maybe I just don’t see it.
Hey Jeff. Love your video. Have you ever had burros tail? Im in a succulent kick and i think it is so awesome lol. Just wanted to share my current favourite plants.
Umm..i love plants but dont see the hype about hoyas.. My new addiction is staghorn ferns .❤ bet your new fern would look amazing on a mount like the staghorn fern
@@timgarner1957 ya for Hoyas either you love them or you don't. Right now they are not a plant that I'm focusing on lol I'd love to get a staghorn some day!
@EverythingPlants I think you would love a staghorn fern..they even have a few small varieties..like jade girl...some of the other varieties get huge!!! Lol

Start with your worst plant and throw it away! Give it a try

Yes, it's very similar to the blue star fern. Glad to know it's a pretty hardy plant for you!

I absolutely love Molly’s!!! Makes plant life so much easier 💚
I 100% agree 👍
Hoyas! My favorite plant! I have never had luck with ferns.
Hoyas are wonderful....just not this pot haha
Best of luck with your fern, it’s beautiful! ❤

Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
I love it! Looks great 👍 oh, and mine does like the bright light so maybe your's will
Nice! I'm curious though, what type of soil do you have yours in?
Nooo, if the hoyas have no pests, just give them away! They prob just have different needs so don't do well together!
I just neglected them lol
Cool shirt!
Thanks!
Do you use Molly’s for your Jade? Is it a mix in between potting soil and cactus soil? Thanks!
I use Very Plants succulent mix and it's a nice mix of small rocks basically
Nice video, Jeff! The only problem I’ve had with my ferns has been scale. Keep an eye out for this nasty bugger🫤
Okay thanks. Do you treat for scale or when you see them throw out the plant?
@ unfortunately I waited until I found sticky substance under the plant.😑 I didn’t check the leaves carefully.

@ systemic treatment did not work. I eventually had to toss it😪 it was just too difficult trying to clean leaf by leaf.
