💡QuinLED💡Introducing the ultimate WLED remote control! (Not IR)
Вставка

Small update, there seem to be 2 versions of this remote in the EU and one of them doesn't work. You can detect the MAC address in the WiFi settings but then it won't respond to any commands. This is currently being investigated to see if the commands that version sends can also be added to WLED. Easiest identifier is that the wrong version has "WIZ" on the front of the remote embossed in the plastic on the lower part. So far these have only been spot in the EU!
True. I got this version and it did not work.
I recently purchased your DigiQuad board and my wife is going to love the Wiz remote control option. Easy on/off & just pressing preset buttons keeps it simple to use. My guess is she will like it so much she will ask me to do the whole house with RGBW lighting
You guys keep coming up with great WLED stuff.
I used to build the hardware myself (but nowhere as nice as you guys do) and this is a big, big gamechanger.
Instead of needing to spend many hours of tinkering (I'm not really an electrical engineer so I am kinda clumsy) I can now save time, spend some money and have the gadgets I need
This is an amazing update! I’ve been wanting and waiting for an RF wireless remote interface that doesn’t involve a phone for WLED. It’s cool that the Dig2go has IR remote capability built in but that wouldn’t be foolproof enough for friends and family.
I’ve already put my order in for 3 remotes.
Thanks a lot for the demonstration video Quindor!
nice Quindor, always good tutorials
Great tutorial! I struggled with updating firmware when I first got my controllers and this helps a lot.
Awesome to hear that! I do it so often I sometimes forget other people don't so I thought to integrate it into the video this time. :)
This is amazing! Exactly what I have been trying to do. Got a Wiz remote now and controlling 2 Dig2Go's out on group rides for our electric riders group will be amazing! ESP-NOW add-on is a godsend. If only we could customise the buttons on the remote...
I am thinking about using dig2go on my e-bike rims with cob led strips. How are u using it? Can u list your components?
@@stevenscop I am using 5v WS2812b strips (60 LEDs per metre) with a USB battery bank connected to the Dig2Go and the WiZ remote in this video. I've used one metre of strip in 4 sections on my backpack so I can create Go/Stop and turning indicators for traffic behind me. When we stop on a group ride for lunch/BBQ is when I enable the patterns & sound-reactive effects.
@@venjsystems thanks for the reply. What battery bank do u use? Also do u think u can go higher than 60 leds?
@@stevenscop just a cheap 5000mAH portable battery bank, nothing special. I have tested this setup with 2 metres @ 60/m and it works fine too. If you want to do COB LEDs they are 12v or 24v though, so I don't think you'd be able to do it the way I have, you have to stick to 5v strips to be able to power from a portable bank.
@stevenscop what did you end up using? I'm thinking of doing the same, but I wish there was a remote with more buttons.
I got the remote working. I did it wrong, but your video helped me to get it working.
The only problem i didn't solve, was installing wled on my Windows 11 pc. I installed all drivers and still it didn't work.
I solved it to do it on my laptop that now runs linux. No need to update my usb. It installed with no problem.
Now my wled runs with the remote and i like it.
Oh, nice! I think i have one of those remotes. Hammerbarn (aka Bunnings) in Aus was clearing them out last year, for $5! So I grabbed one but never even took it out of the box.
Oh wow, that's a lucky chance then, they are so easy to use!
Hi Q,
Another great video, thanks mate.
Just wondering if the wizmode and other mac addressed controllers work with WLED sound react, or is 14.4b only for the normal WLED?
Thanks
Would be awesome if instead of presets we could link those buttons to macros. Thanks for the update, it’s always appreciated.
Actually you can! I'll make a video about it in the future but you can put API call codes in a preset to do various stuff, including cycling through a number of art presets, pallets, etc.
Can you please please provide a little more detail about this. If a button on the remote can cycle through the effects and another one can cycle through the pallets it would be so awesome and solve my last issue with the whole set up. Thanks a ton in advance@@IntermitTech
Hi QuinLED. Thanks for a really good video. I have a matrix panel 8 by 32 panel (on ESP32) and now with a WiZ remote works fine thanks for the help. Using "Scrolling Text" works fine until I want to make "Date and time" as Scrolling Text and as Preset. Do you have an idea hav to safe in "Present" ?? Many thanks from Denmark. 🙂
Hi Quin, excellent new features,
Cant wait to update,
I have a very quick question if that's ok,
On my main new laptop it's running Microsoft Edge as it's browser,
From your experience is it fine with downloading WLED files and updates etc,
Or is Chrome better and if so why?
Many thanks,
Using Edge is fine for downloading and other stuff. I believe it now also supports the web flashing since underneath it uses the same engine as Chrome.
In other regards I really don't know, I use Chrome myself. :)
@@IntermitTech
Thank you for answering, I think I may download Chrome as my browser, especially if that's the basis of your sites and links etc,
Thanks again
I hope you are well.
Great video, thanks for this.
I have a question as to whether this remote can switch between different dig2go/esp32 boards, or can it only support multiple boards in sync.
(for example, I have a use case with one strip on a staircase at the back of my theater, while I have another strip as a backlight on my screen, so as an example, if I wanted to turn off the screen backlight LED while still keeping the staircase LED lit do I need to separate remotes)
I would love a simple solution without a bunch of remotes dedicated to the different strips, as I am not the only one using the room and I'd like to make it easy for the family.
Yeah that's asking a bit too much from a simple remote. You can control a single ESP based controller or multiple but they will always receive the same data, so if you send off, both will go off.
Sounds like you need something more Home Assistant based and then define buttons and such to do exactly what you'd like to happen. :)
@@IntermitTech I thought that might be the case 😊. Appreciate your comments! Perhaps I will start simple and see how it works out before I complicate things 👍
Hey quindor! Really nice, but maybe a stupid question.. Could this remote also be used when my internet is down?
😅
Yes, absolutely no problem. WLED itself but also the remote have no cloud dependency. Even if your complete local WiFi went down, the remote would still function with the WLED controller since it does not rely on your WiFi infrastructure but communicates directly to the ESP32.
@IntermitTech nice! Thanks for the clarification 😅
Will this work with the brainboards for the Octa? Would you do it the same way? Update to 14.2 and then use the ota update to 14.4?
Thank you for all you do. I love my dig2go's I have two of them and use them with a powerbank on my car.
Dave from Middle USA
Yes should work the same in a brainboard and thus Dig-Octa although I haven't tested it together with Ethernet yet!
We adapted the website and you can now immediately flash to beta4. If going from v13 and fresh install is usually best.
Thanks
@@IntermitTech
can this be used with 12volt string led pixels
It would be awesome if you could provide the download link for firmwares outside of the install page. If you are not using a supported browser then the manual download link is lost.
Owh huh, that's a good point, didn't know that! I'll try and figure out a way around that, thnx for letting us know! :D
Thanks for the update.
Could you please give us the link to the LED matrix?
Ah I forgot to add it to the video description, I just added it! This was 2x 16x16 linked together with some tape to make 32x16 matrix!
@@IntermitTechThe Dig2Go is 15W right? Wouldn’t a 512 matrix consume ~150W max? I don’t get how it’s that bright at only 10% wattage, unless you really don’t need that much.
That's because the 60mA per figure is an internet myth at this point, LEDs use much less, that's why I created the real world power sheet.
Second, those numbers would be for R+B+G at 100% output. Even just displaying 1 color would be 1/3rd of that. And realistically you'll use even less power since you are creating shades of colors, etc.
So with that said, the dig2go will still be a limiting factor, but not as much as you'd think initially!
@@IntermitTech So would you say that 512 matrix you showed would be bright enough on a Dig2Go to put in a window to use at night as part of a holiday show (firework effect for instance)? I would like to add something to accompany just my roof lights.
I see they come in normal WS2812b and eco, is eco the better choice for the Dig2Go?
Are you splitting the power out of the Dig2Go to go into each panel or just using the panel’s built in daisy chain? Because BTF’s page suggests to add power per panel.
Hello I have the DigQuad with Quinled ESP32 Ethernet version.
When I try the latest Ethernet firmware "WLED_0.14.0-b4_ESP32_Ethernet.bin" then the Remote Control in Config > Wi-Fi Setup is missing and it is replaced by the Ethernet board settings.
When I try the latest normal firmware "WLED_0.14.0-b4_ESP32.bin" then the Remote Control settings is there and I can add my Wiz remote and it works fine.
Is it expected behavior that the Ethernet version of the firmware doesn't support Wiz Remote Control while the normal version supports it?
I’m on 14.0 (non-beta) and it works with Ethernet DigQuad.
Ah yes, my builds support it but the generic WLED builds might not have it included, good to hear it's working well for you!
Can you hook up 2 matrix boards to a digquad and get different effects on both ? If so can you do a vid for this please plus I'm having issues with the sound with my max4466 mic not picking up any sound. TIA 👍
Just make them different segments?
Does anyone know what the "moon" button does on the remote. It seems to do something like Dim completely while also turning off?
Hi all....
Does this work with the dig quad???
Willis work with my athom controller running WLED?
If it's ESP32 based in theory yes. I don't know how well it will work with an ESP8266 in there.
Can the Wiz motion sensor work with the esp32 also?
Unknown to me, not sure it uses the same ESP-now commands.
If running WLED on ESP8266 & FW 0.14.0-b4 on multiple installs, the remote will control them all at the same time regardless of the remote option being on or off in settings. Even using a dummy MAC doesn't get around it.
Huh? How so? I noticed no such thing yet really.
All of mine are still on ESP8266 and I haven't been able to get the remote to control only one so far..all of them respond to the commands
How odd, even in the video you could see I had the back LEDs and the one on the desk, both ESP32 though. I'll do some more testing to verify but especially without enabeling the remote part it would be very weird if it responded to it.
Yeh I totally agree, that's why I tried a dummy MAC to see if it would prevent it from responding, even with the remote option set to off. I'm keen to hear about your test results
I have worked out what was causing it. The send & receive sync groups need to be disabled for the lights I don't want to respond to the remote. I'm curious if you find the same Quin.
does it only have 4 presets?
I have 3x ESP32 on the Version 0.14.0-b4 and 2x Remotes are not working. Wifi Sleep is switched off.
The MAC address of the remotes is recognised.
Does anyone have any other ideas what I could try?
Hmm, of you followed the steps in the video and copy + paste the MAC address (make sure there are no spaces behind it) it really should just work. Nit sure what else to tell you to try.
For the remotes, make sure to use good fresh alkeline batteries! Not recharable ones, they have a lower voltage.
I have the same problem, have tried a WIZmote on three different esp32 and on none of them it works. I copied and pasted the mac address as shown in the video (no spaces present). i have batteries (no rechargeable) and they are full.
@@IntermitTech Have figured it out. There are different WIZ remote controls.
@@moonlightshaker Seems like the wizmote version, with no 'WIZ' text on the back does not work, although the remote id. is recognized.
At 4:06 you select "WLED Native" app instead of "WLED" on your phone - why? Where's the instructions that explain the difference?
I have an iPad 5th generation; should I download both apps but use "WLED Native"?
WLED native isn't the official app but it does have some nice improvements which is why I gravitate towards it at the moment. Both apps work though.
Can you connect the Wiz remote to a DigQuad?
It’s using the same software, so yes same steps.
Will it work on a Dig-Uno?
Yes no problem! It'll work with the dig2go, Dig-Uno, Dig-Quad and Dig-Octa just the same!
will this work with a esp32 running wled?
Sure yes it should
@@IntermitTechHi! I noticed in All My 4 uno's with ethernet that the part with remote settings is missing... Only in the fw without lan, but i need to use lan. Bought today the remote but cant use it. Is this on work to Port this feature? Not tried yet on My quad and octa. Thanks
Try flashing the version from install.quinled.info
Is the code open source?
If not, could you at least make the wifi part public?
Yes, just check the WLED github!
Does any 2.4ghz remote work?
No, it has to this exact one.
Shame you have to set presets at all and you can't just cycle through all of the standard presets.
Since you are using ESP32, my guy in China will know your password.
Wait whut? Ok?
Comment likely sent from his Huawei phone…
