I love the fenix 7 with its looks and feels, I wish there was an AMOLED variant though because that would be very epic for sure. I'm currently tracking all my runs on an Apple watch SE but the battery life and the accuracy aren't that great, winning this giveaway therefore would be very sweet. Thanks guys for this explainer and I look forward to seeing more content.
I started running in lockdown, with my first steps being Couch to 5k. I bought a Forerunner 245 in late 2020, and it has been brilliant, but I started to get a bit adventurous with my running, and the 245 battery gave up in the 99th km of Race to the Stones (my longest and so far only 100km run). Doh! Whilst the high end watches are amazing, practically speaking I need a 955 - it is wearable the whole time, functionally accomplished, and HAS A LONGER BATTERY LIFE! 🤣 Keep up the good work Running Channel - you're great.
Started about 7 months ago with a Samsung watch, before I moved onto Garmin because I wanted a system that factors in health and activity in training plans. 700km later managed to run 5k under 30 minutes. Pretty proud as I was rather large and couldn't run for 2 minutes consecutively at the beginning 😅
Great effort! so in otherwords, Samsung is a gimmick, and Garmin is the real deal, acutally putting the data to good use ? do you know how fitbit's compare?
Started with the Forerunner 235 six years ago and it made me a better runner!! Then I upgraded to the Fenix 6x Pro, after I started doing more athletic activities, and I was thrilled (I still am!!). What can I say about Garmin watches? They are magnificent and the best companion/guide/coach for a healthier lifestyle. As soon as you decide what you want to do, make a choice according to this excellent video and you’ll be set!!
I'm new to running and I've just hit the point where I can manage a full 5K. As someone with a disability, this is already a massive achievement for me. The Forerunner 955 looks amazing and would really help me to track my progress from this point on.
I'm a sophomore in highschool and I joined cross country last year. I realized how much I love to run and how necessary a good watch is. My current watch is a first generation Venu SQ with heavy scratches and a battery that isn't great anymore. The longest run I've gone in was a 9.79 mile run in 1:10:02 (7:09pace). My goal is to run a half marathon this summer in under 1.5 hours, and a new watch would really help!
What features are you looking to gain from upgrading? I do a variety of sports including running, and the Venu Sq has all the features I've ever needed. I'm confused about what features there are that warrant the extra cost.
@@ManpreetSLThe main things that I was looking for was a longer battery life, music and map support. I ended up upgrading myself to the Venu 2 Plus. It doesn't have the map support but it does have music and a better battery as well as better screen. I figured the microphone and speaker in it made it a worth it upgrade for me. Although don't get me wrong, the Venu sq is a great watch and if something happens to my current watch I'll jump right back into using it.
I didn't start my smartwatch journey with Garmin but am so glad that I've switched. Their watches are so much more durable, even at the entry level, but especially the feature rich ones.
I've been running for the past 6 years now, but approximately 3 years ago I brought the Forerunner 45, and it's still holding strong! I never knew the benefit that running with pace would have on my training, but it significantly improved my ability. Next year I'm aiming to complete a marathon, and in the hot Australian sun, the solar 955 would fit right in place 😁
Bought the forerunner 55 and ran my first half marathon in 10 weeks using its Garmin coach feature. Had been running occasionally earlier with lots of weight training, unable to lose the extra flab. Will continue running regularly henceforth, Garmin makes that journey data driven.
I never realised how useful having a running watch was until my partner convinced me to try out Garmin. 5 months down the line with my FR255s by my side, I've been making PRs and seeing my health (and vo2 max!) improve a significant amount!! Never regretted the purchase once!!
Just started running again a couple months ago after over 20 years of avoiding it, not remembering how good I felt mentally and physically after running regularly. It has been a great way to have an activity my son and I enjoy doing together, we've done a few short 1-2 mile "races" since I started. I will probably get the Garmin 55 due to my just starting back into this, though the 255 would be a better option for longer term especially with the full navigation, the 955 is just too hard to justify this early in starting my running habit.
I currently have the Forerunner 45 which has definitely served me well for the past 2 years but as I look to increase the distance and intensity of my training, the 45 really is showing its limits whether it be in terms of battery life or data. The 955 really looks like one of the most complete watches for almost any athlete and it would definitely be a plus in my prep for an upcoming semi-marathon I am looking to compete in. Thanks for the awesome videos!
The insight into running data these watches provide is beyond what I first thought. Both for new and advanced runners it transforms your exercises and makes your running experience more enjoyable. Each watch seems very difficult to beat yet the next model always improves, really does provide a watch for everyone and some budget friendly options
Currently using forerunner 935 for 4 years now. I was always happy with battery life, especially for running and trail running programs. 50k with full GPS worked like a charm. But man, from 935 to 955, there are a lot of upgrades, especially the map. It'll definitely help in tracking runs, trail runs and setting a new course. And with solar charge, even better for outdoor activity here in Indonesia. I definitely will upgrade from FR935 to FR955
I recently upgraded from 935 to 955. It is a whole other experience, way more health tracking metrics and wow the map! I was so tired with breadcrumb navigation, having a labeled map on the wrist is so much nicer. Pretty much all the features of the flashier 965 that just dropped as well :D
@@matthiaswuest7271 Thanks for the comment. I’m just upgrading from my 935 which I have been very happy with but the breadcrumbs has led me astray too many times. The mapping is my main reason for the 955. It arrives in a few days & I’m so excited. FYI I use the 935 with the RDpod.
I just got the 255 after having the 235 for two years and man it was quite the upgrade. The 235 had emotional value but all the new features of the 255 are insane!
I've started running with a Garmin 45 S to help me prep for a half marathon in March, and it is amazing! Even though it is entry level, the data it provides on my performance has helped me to plan activities, particularly when linked to the functionality of Garmin Connect. The only thing that would be better is more data, so ultimately a 955 would be a massive win! Love your work TRC - it's great to see you do these things to give someone a very cool Christmas and help achieve our running aims, keep up the good work!
Running on and off since 35 years old, now 56 I wanted to get the most out of myself. The 955 has some great benefits, map and performance for two. 255 gives trends better than the 55, and for the price is my preference. The 55 is a solid watch, leaves some of the analysis and choices to you. Great vid keep them coming.
I initially planned on getting a forerunner 55 but after doing some research decided that the 255 was the best option for me at this moment. I used to have a Fitbit and the difference in features and data is huge. I’m loving my 255 and I hope to enjoy many years with it.
I've just pulled the trigger on a 255 after initially looking to get a fitbit charge 5. This is good to hear! I want as much data as possible (at this price point)
@@3rodox I had a charge 5! And I can tell you, once you try Garmin you can’t go back 😂 the amount of details and info it gives you about your pace, your heartbeat, your performance can’t be compared. Plus you don’t need any subscription to access all the features it offers. In the long run it’s cheaper 🙏🏼
I have the 935 for the past 3 years and it's works perfectly to my running needs. I run 5-7 days per week and the battery life is amazing to keep up with all my activities.
I have been using the 55 for a year and a half and I am totally happy with it! The features of the more expensive running watches from Garmin look nice, but I think that for a standard runner, the 55 is good enough!!!
I have over 35 marathons done, half on mountains and trails and two 60 KM trail marathons and dont have a GPS watch. Most of the so called features on these watched are over hyped and add liitle real vaue to running. I think you are right about the 55 which I may think about getting if I see it at a sale price
@@amblincork I agree. I wait these watches to know distance and pace without the need for a phone. All other features i don't if I'll use. The 55 will satisfy that.
as a fr55 user for the past 3 years with 4 marathons, one 50km trail and loads of shorter distances, i think it is really perfect. the rest of the stuff is fluff. i set myself a goal that to get a fancier watch with navigation, i need to be able to run three other 50km trail runs. until then (and seeing that i have only done one), i will remain with my trusted fr55!
@@amblincork . That's nonsense. For a beginner or amateur the performance metrics and gps in Garmin watches can make a huge difference. You can also run naked but it doesn't make it ideal.
I currently have an old Forerunner 35, one of the older watches Garmin has made. Still is brilliant to use and I've ran a few marathons with it. However, an upgrade to a forerunner 255 or 955 would be boss! The technology in these watches are making lifestyle balance and exercise great.
Newly dedicated runner here, but with lots of years doing sport and other activities. Set myself a goal of running a marathon around my 40th birthday late this year. Looking at upgrading to a Garmin because I find stats very helpful for my training so this video was really helpful, thanks 😊 Will definitely be keen on looking at the 55 or 255!
Garmin definitely make the best sports watches on the market. I highly appreciate their added value related not only to the data that shows a lot about the current sports and health status, but also to all the training that it creates and follows according to the current fitness level. I have changed 4 watches. My previous FR 245 m was the one that helped me start running and thanks to its courses it managed to prepare me for a 10 km run in a month, while before I could barely run 1-2 km. It definitely made me a devout fan of the brand.
Been running since forever. Purchased forerunner 245 as a base to start with and love it! So glad I went with Garmin. I recommend to 4 people who have since purchased different versions & all very happy. Moving forward, looking to upgrade, one with more features, running specific. After watching this the 955 sounds awesome! Really helpful video, thanks Andy! Thanks Running Channel! 👍👏🏃♀️
I started on the forerunner 45 two years ago, I received it for my birthday and so far I loved it! In the last six months I started following your training plans for 5k and 10k and I'm thinking about an upgrade mainly for interval training, suggested workouts, race pace prediction and to track swimming activities since on the 45 is not possible... We'll see!
I have an Instinct Solar and it has been super cool using it in outdoor activities (run, bike, hike, climb, swim...), mainly thanks to it's navigation feature and its battery life. Now that I'm taking running a little bit more seriously, it'd be nice to have the extra features that the 955 offers.
@@alohafruits_makaha It indicates 26 days of battery when fully charged, but I get more like 10-15, depending on sun exposure and use. That's tracking 1 hour of activity almost everyday and usually with GPS. It seems like you may have some battery issue.
Had a Garmin 235 for years and it's served me well, Garmin customer support for replacement straps and keepers has been great, definitely upgrading to a new Garmin and you've given me something to help with the choice of model.
I recently got a Forerunner 55 and loved it as a beginner! I’m going to run my first 5K with it next month and hoping to do that below 30 minutes. Maybe getting a Forerunner 955 would be a motivator for training towards a 10K or even a (Half) Marathon!
I got the FR 55 about 12 months ago and used it to prepare for my first half marathon, since then moved to more trail running and if this goes serious and more ultra I would probably need an upgrade, but I do love the 55 for its simplicity and getting all I need from it for now!
I had a 265, 3 years ago. It was a great watch. Since 2 months I own Epix Gen. 2. Let me tell you this things is a beast. It has everything and more you could wish for in activity tracking watch 💪
Hi Andy and the TRC team. I use the Garmin Forerunner 245 music since 2020 and i'am quite satisfied of it. But i use only the main features. I can follow my different paces during training session and races and it's really great way to improve my running skill. Thank for the video, have great running session :)
I currently use a Polar because I like they're suggested short strength and mobility exercises with video. But the Garmin 255 and 955 look pretty impressive, especially with the recovery and stamina features. 💚
The pace pro and coaching (suggested workouts) features are interesting to me, Solar would be badass as well. Would love a 955 or Fenix 7. I have a Venu but it only has up to half marathon training plans. The problem with how durable and well designed Garmin watches are is that they never die so justifying an upgrade expense is hard :p . Wish I had seen this video prior to purchasing the Venu years ago !
Been looking at jumping into the Garmin ecosystem for a while now. This videos one most comprehensive and up to date ones on Garmin watches on UA-cam. Great stuff!
Bought my first Garmin in 2016. A Fenix 3. This watch motivated me to run my first half-marathon. My current Fenix 6x Pro took me to my PB best half-marathon in 1:36. I have to admit that my garmin changed my life.
I started in 2020 with the Vivoactive 4s. It's been quite useful and Garmin just added new functionality to the Connect app (like workout time/distance predictions) which is neat. I'm definitely tempted to upgrade to the Forerunner 955, though.
The Garmin range is huge, so thanks for a good overview of the key model differences 👍 The Epix 2 would be my ideal watch with the built-in maps for navigation and the bright screen, but it's a huge leap up from my old Forerunner 310XT which has worked well for running and cycling ...until it recently started to lose the GPS signal mid-ride! 🤨
Ordered my first smartwatch - a venu 2 plus - and absolutely stoked to use it!! She's arriving on the 6th but I can barely wait! Used to run 5 to 6 kms regularly but after COVID hit me twice, I had to take a break but I'm slowly getting back to 1.75 kms. Looking forward to getting back to my old self and getting even better 💪🏃 Also, congratulations to the person who gets to win the 955 🥳🎊
I have had a lifestyle watch for years but was really only using the running functions so recently moved up to forerunner 255. Love it! Since I'm not training for anything specific right now, I'm having fun letting the watch tell me what to do. Lol
I have been an outdoor leader and used Garmin GPS devices in the field. The Garmin Forerunner 955 would greatly help me navigate the outdoors and access health and training data without worrying about the battery, courtesy its Solar feature!
Ran my first marathon in November 2021, then had my first baby in August 2022. Recently started running again and am looking for a running watch to help me on my journey! Definitely feel like I’m starting from scratch but know that I can do it. I think the Garmin 55 would probably be good enough for me, but a 955 sure would be fun ☺️
Earlier this year while recovering from knee surgery I decided to buy myself a Forerunner 935 to use for running once I got recovered. Several months later and as I'm able to run again I find that my watch has really made a difference in my training in comparison to prior to my injury. I think buying a sports watch was one of the best purchases I made this year!
I have started with Vivoactive 5, but as I started running more I have upgraded to Foreruuner 245. It has more running features and data and I love that :)
I’m all about the FR955! Been a runner for about 8 years now and am jumping into the world of triathlons, and I’m all about the data when it comes to training. With my busy life it’s sometimes hard to create my own workouts, and know my workload. I want the 955 for the tech that feels like a coach inside my watch!
Started running 1,5 years ago and just completed my first half-marathon, been using the 245 which I love, but the upgraded features of the 255 and 955 are alluring.
Having started running just under 4 years ago with my daughter's old, basic Forerunner, I have now completed numerous half marathons and, in October, my first marathon. Having a watch to record my runs has been invaluable; allowing me to review my performance without having to cart a phone around with me. I can't imagine running without one but would love to have one which includes navigation as off-road running is something I would like to do a lot more of.
Bought a Forerunner 245 a couple years ago and is still going strong. If I were to get into trail running, I'd probably want a 955 for the solar and GPS capabilities
i'm beginner runner, use 255s about a week. I use it all day to allow the watch collect lot of data and following the daily suggested workout, which is really help me doing my run.
955 looks like great upgrade choice from my 235 which has served me so well for the last 6 years on numerous road and mountain marathons. Great video and advice!
I’ve been running for a few years and want to make the switch to tracking on a watch! The Forerunner 955 looks like a dream and I would love to enjoy my runs with all these awesome features.
The 955 is an amazing watch for runners. I think the Vivoactive 4s is perfect for my wife who likes to run, but not just running, she likes other exercise and this watch is very versatile. I have the Fenix 6 pro because I like a lot of activities but mainly running. I love it, it has everything, I love the look and it's rugged and battery lasts for ages!
I've been looking at the forerunner 55 to get me back into the swing of running after taking a break due to injury. Even when I was running consitently I felt I needed some instant motivation instead of faffing with my phone on strava and trying to work out my splits from that. Of course the 955 would be incredible and I'd make sure I put it to proper use!
Top video. i startet with an vivoactive 3, then with a forerunner 45, instinct 2 solar, forerunner 255 and now the epix gen 2. this watch is so so nice, it does all i want and the screen is just insane. battery life is quiet impressive for an amoled screen, 5-6 days with almost daily workouts.
I've not had a smart watch but im trying to drastically improve my health. There is so many to choose from and find the perfect one for my needs so your video is great. Thanks for the help!
I started my running journey when I got my galaxy watch 4 and have loved seeing my fitness improve over the last 6 months. I'm now starting to push into the endurance duration and distances, I've had to hold myself back and manage the recovery of my legs as im getting some little niggles and dont want them to progress to full injury. I've had my eye on the forerunner 255 for a bit now and recently missed out on the 955 with a nice discount, It is my hope that the forerunner series will be able to get me to the finish line of my first ever marathon by the end of 2023, Happy running all!
Italian guy here and loving your videos! This one was particularly useful since Garmin has sooo many choices. I was trying to find a watch for simple hiking and running, other than training for the annual local event which involves medieval team games. Thank you! :)
@@runningchannel Well, you go from simple tug of war and grape crushing to more specific ones like a relay race with wheelbarrows and so on... personally, the tensest ones are "Tesser" and "Treccia" where teamwork is crucial. If you search for "Palio dei Mezzadri" on UA-cam you can find some videos. In our little town is a very heartfelt event and we train months specifically for this.

My first activity tracking wasthe garmin vivosmarth 3. It was initially useful to get me more active but i soon realised that i needed more data which would then enough me to work hard which is why i currently own a garmin forerunner 245. It perfect because i can go for a run and leave my phone and still music download from my Spotify. It also have good smart feature such as view messages and email, view the weather in your location, iew phone calls and more.... Excellent smart/fitness watch ⌚️

I’ve had the Garmin Venu for over 2 years now and it’s definitely time for an upgrade! I’m watching this video for research and I think I like the 255S Music.
I have a 245 music, which I love, but the 955 has so many cool new features. The longest run I've recorded was my solo marathon in 2020 when my marathon was cancelled a week before the race.
I've had the 745 for nearly a year now and it is fantastic. For me it is the perfect hybrid between a smart watch and a fitness tracker. I use it to track climbing and bouldering and the built in altimeter helps track how far I climb.
I have the forerunner 255 music. My husband is always borrowing my watch for his fish tournaments so he can listen to music and podcasts. He also likes it for the gps. Lol. Great info. Very informative.

Fitbit, imho is the worst watch.
I had a Versa watch and after buying it, I realised it is not a GPS watch.
I have the 935 for the past 3 years and it's works perfectly to my running needs. I run 5-7 days per week and the battery life is amazing to keep up with all my activities.
As a blind runner from Fort Worth Texas, I think this will be a game changer
Thanks. It's what I wanted to hear. The 55 is it for me.
as a fr55 user for the past 3 years with 4 marathons, one 50km trail and loads of shorter distances, i think it is really perfect. the rest of the stuff is fluff. i set myself a goal that to get a fancier watch with navigation, i need to be able to run three other 50km trail runs. until then (and seeing that i have only done one), i will remain with my trusted fr55!
Me too. What did you decide on? I'm looking at the 55 at the moment,
Garmin definitely make the best sports watches on the market.
We'll see!
Hello, can I download music with 45.and use blue tooth.i love music when runninh
I have an Instinct Solar and it has been super cool using it in outdoor activities (run, bike, hike, climb, swim...), mainly thanks to it's navigation feature and its battery life. Now that I'm taking running a little bit more seriously, it'd be nice to have the extra features that the 955 offers.
what's your battery life when fully charged? I get 4 days max but it never lasts that long and I have the solar!
Started running 3 months ago. I’ve lost a load of weight and looking forward to my 10km attempt in a few weeks. Great video🎉
Great overview for Garmin watches, making clear the differences between fitness, runnning and outdoor activities and which watch to wear.😀
Is it durable? Seems fragile.
I had a 265, 3 years ago. It was a great watch.
Since 2 months I own Epix Gen. 2. Let me tell you this things is a beast. It has everything and more you could wish for in activity tracking watch 💪
I got dive certification last year and got a garmin descent g1. I love it I was running about 30 miles a week and it has a great battery life and GPS
Yeah upgrade to the foreskin
The Garmin range is huge, so thanks for a good overview of the key model differences 👍
The Epix 2 would be my ideal watch with the built-in maps for navigation and the bright screen, but it's a huge leap up from my old Forerunner 310XT which has worked well for running and cycling ...until it recently started to lose the GPS signal mid-ride!
Looking forward to getting back to my old self and getting even better 💪🏃
Also, congratulations to the person who gets to win the 955 🥳🎊
I have had a lifestyle watch for years but was really only using the running functions so recently moved up to forerunner 255. Love it! Since I'm not training for anything specific right now, I'm having fun letting the watch tell me what to do. Lol
I still have no clue which is best
Higher the better, but also most expensive.
I have just recorded a 21.1k, exactly 8 months after knee surgery. Put in a crazy amount of effort getting back to what i was able to do pre-injury
Garmin have it nailed for watches.
I've been using my Fenix 6 for 18 months. The features are amazing!
I'd be lost without on the trails 👊🏻
Currently got the 245 and did a 22km trail run with it. Works so well!
I've had my Vivoactive for about 4 years now and love it! I bought my partner one for Christmas so we can challenge each other in the Garmin app
I have started with Vivoactive 5, but as I started running more I have upgraded to Foreruuner 245. It has more running features and data and I love that :)
Stoked. Great videos. Big 1500m 3000m highschool runner here.
I’ve had my Garmin Fenix Sapphire 5X for about 7 years now. Love it!
Last year I ran 22km in the rainy season with Coros Pace2 and then this year changed to fr255, I really love this watch.
Forerunner 955! I have the 245 and love it
same
I’m all about the FR955!
Recently ran 10k and saw several people using Garmin watches during the run. Thanks for the video. I am considering buying the Forerunner 55.
Ran 22km few weeks ago, training for my first ever half marathon! scared but excited
The Venu 2 helped me to start moving from 0, and the Forerunner is helping me to make some serious steps into doing sports. Happy with my 965.
I had the Instinct Solar for about 2 years. I just got the Fenix 7 Solar on Black Friday. It is AMAZING!!!
I was just looking for my first running watch, so this video landed at just the right time!
Italian guy here and loving your videos! This one was particularly useful since Garmin has sooo many choices. I was trying to find a watch for simple hiking and running, other than training for the annual local event which involves medieval team games. Thank you! :)
Medieval team games?? Please tell us more!
Thanks for the comparison! I got the fenix 7x solar and I love it. It has literally changed my health
How?
outstanding explanation for all the watches, you do better than good and giving us a perfect understanding of all the features and what each watch does
I'm looking for a watch for my wife's anniversary present, she ran the New York Marathon in 2019 and wants to do a London Marathon. I found this video helpful for sorting out all the features in Garmin's extensive lineup. Thanks @TheRunningChannel
i bought a 255 forerunner for a friend because of this video. thanks!
It was between the 955 and the fenix 7 for me. Picked up the fenix 7 sapphire solar during black Friday, got a good deal on it. Love the watch!!
currently using a vivoactive 3 but have been looking to upgrade my watch for ages as I am an avid runner and cause use a lot of the amazing features of the forerunner 955
Start running three year's ago and the fr 55 will be good as a new runner for me it will be a joy to have one
Started with fenix 7 on the end of august 2022, and little by little now I run up to 10k.
I have been running for 3.5 years with my vivoactive 3. I have started my marathon training now but it only works for 3hrs in GPS mode now😂. I came across this video as i'm choosing my next watch.
Thanks to the running channel picked up running again. You guys showed me that running a marathon is not impossible, last oktober I ran my first marathon! Thanks for the awesome content and the inspiration!!! ❤🫶😘
My first watch is the Forerunner 15 and I'm now using a Forerunner 235. Upgrading to Forerunner 955 would be a dream 😊
Thank you for explaining the differences of each watch so clearly.
Just bought a Forerunner 55 - mostly due to budget. Loving it.
Only started running over this last weekend. Had my 3rd workout tonight and was able to run 7 miles averaging 12:32 a mile
Have been injured and are looking for a Forerunner 955 to manage my running and make sure that I don't over train. Thanks for great videos.
Perfect timing. I’m getting my wife a new sports watch for Christmas. Based on this video, I think it will be either a 255 or a Venu.
This video should be on Garmin's web page, literally you described, compared and adviced every watch from every lineup. Nice 👍
Lol. Great info. Very informative.
the comparisons were very useful. It helped with my instinct purchase.
I currently have Fenix 6X pro and I just love it. Best device I ever had.
I have been using the 235. It's been a great watch. Ran my first half and full marathon in it. A 955 would be a game changer.
