That opening about the reason we practice is really on point. These dudes just give off the best vibe. Adam and Peter are hands down some of the best teachers on the internet but also seem like people that would be genuinely cool to shoot the shit with. Truly grateful for what you do
you all probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the account password. I would love any tips you can give me
@Brody Brayden thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Brody Brayden HOLY **** IT REALLY WORKED :O Just got access to my Instagram login after about 40 minutes of using the site. I had to pay 15 bucks but definitely worth it :O Thank you so much you really help me out !
The opening of this video hit me in all the right places. Thank you adam. You're right. I'm not practicing because I want to be the best, I'm not practicing to impress anyone ( Or even a girl for that matter ). I'm practicing because I want that connection and I want to share that connection with others who are chasing it. Much love, bruv!
70 year old here in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains where jazz is a foreign music. I have been getting tired of my playing the same old stuff over and over and really appreciate your videos.
Adam has such a kind heart, not only towards the students, but also towards himself. Using a human stumble as an opportunity for a teachable moment... I love that!
I am in my sixth decade and within this last 18 months I discovered the circle of fifths. Never heard of it before. Neither did I know what a pentatonic scale was or how it was the base undercoat of all music throughout history. Now I am repeating over and over every moment of this tutorial staring at your fingers to see just how you tackle each little phrase. Good gravy my neck is killing me! 😂
I can't imagine a better way to practice. Slow and repeat. I was never taught how to practice and it's taken me years to figure it out. Thanks for the reinforcement. This is teaching the way it should be.
These are the best lessons I've found. Every lesson I've seen on this channel has been amazing. Actual lessons on fundamentals and rudiments rather than 'tutorials' on how to parrot something or other. This stuff is exactly what musicians need, thank you so much.
Side slipping idea "Level 5" fits great on the guitar, 8th fret. Great lesson and nice sequencing of ideas to develop and compose penta licks. Kudos Adam
Wow! Adam's chat from 6:33 to about 8:03 was exactly what I needed to hear right now! Bloody motivational to my ears! Thank you so much & I will now go practice my scales, make beautiful music and eat as many vegetables as I can find!
Wow that intro is so right. I kept wondering why we practice if it’s not merely “to be good” or to “present myself solidly to the work of music” which while pragmatic is just that. We practice to open up the way for that inner spark to flow. So gorgeous. Thank you 😊
Thank you Adam, you are amazing. thank you (a lot) for bringing awareness into our practice time and our life. You and Peter are really something else, I'm very grateful. hope you are doing great
Adams I am enjoying your video all the way from Ghana . (West Africa). Trust me this lesson is something else. It has really opened my eyes to alot of things. I used to ran the scales up and down in the linear fashion and wondered how I could make music with that. Thanks alot. Very happy to have this and very grateful. I guess we have to apply it to all other scales.
Absolutely brilliant. Loving the approach of imminently practical fundamentals that are infused with the feeling we are responsible to bring to them. Thanks Adam and everyone participating. Building the bedrock of competency and capacity. Cheers!
Wow, levels 1-4 was nice. Level 5 was so mind blowing!!! As a guitar player, I always go up a half step to Db- pentatonic, not to B-. Also, I have never gone outside on beat#2, usually bar #2. Such a useable phrase. Thanks, Adam!
Great video! I’ve heard players use the half-step slide, but I never understood how I could use it. I also appreciate how you emphasized your 4th interval comping. This video will definitely raise my game. Thank you!
This is brilliant. Teaching basics in a thorough methodical discipline leading through to something that smokes. You are a great musician and an outstanding pedagogue. Thank you for this contribution to humanity :)
What happens when an artist’s work enters a person’s life? What intimate process evolves when a relationship is established between musician and listener? That's what's been happening to me, yet again. A giant thanks to these mentors for helping me understand the piano.
I like trhe step by step, slow tempo, systematic approach including sheet music and demonstration. I am singer and the broken groups are nice for singers. Thanks. more of this is welcome.
🎹Hey Adam….. I appreciate this lesson very much the Pentatonics……..The Pentatonics are All very new to me so THANK YOU for taking us through this very interesting lesson!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰
Love your videos. I'm a practicing saxophonist/clarinetist who started many years ago on keyboard. Love the ideas and info available. Breaking my mind trying to develop the four-note chords based on the alt dom scale. Worth knowing in all keys - assuming a 1,000 hours in a day! ;-) Great stuff. Thanks.
Damn, I'm feeling you. Definitely in the moment. Love the way you are loving teaching and putting your soul into it. Cult stuff - gonna learn all your different levels. Just decided I'm gonna concentrate on the pentatonic scales but not learn it like scales even though I love scales. Thanks for your inspirational tutorial. God bless.
I've been messing around mostly with the major pentatonic and the McCoy Tyner ( dominant 7th ) pentatonic ( on keyboards ). Listening to and watching this, I can see and hear that I need to add that minor pentatonic to my vocabulary. And your approach to it is fascinating and insightful; thanks Adam - ( out of Hampton, VA )
What an amazing lesson! As a guitarist studying Eric Johnson’s pentatonic shapes, this has been a treasure trove of ideas on how to link them together. Thank you!

This is really nice step-by-step lesson, Adam! I am practicing with you on a saxophone. Can you, please, make more practicing sessions like this, focused more on the half-step-sliding, side skipping, outside playing? Cheers
Hi Adam. Perfect session - THANK YOU !!!! Please pay attention to where the microphone stand is. It sometimes covers the view to your fingers on the piano. I find it important for the fingering :-)
Hey, i like this video! you guys should hire a guitarist to lead some lessons. Would be nice to mix it up. Guitarists, horn players, bass, even drums. As long as the lesson is appliccable everywhere, then we can all practice along
Great Lesson!! It brought me back to the Pentatonics course you teach on Open Studio. I was surprised by how well I handled your lesson since I don't often play pentatonics; full credit to your course for putting them in my fingers.

Man I saw that thing, I said “man if you don’t show me them McCoy Tyner things”
The best place for practical jazz is Open Studio by a country mile . Thanks again , I get so much from these lessons.

I love what Adam is doing with his left hand. Especially towards the end of the lesson.
Very good lesson. I dig that you said " might not sound hip just yet.....but there's hipness to be had. Ha !
Thank you Adam, you are amazing. thank you (a lot) for bringing awareness into our practice time and our life.
You and Peter are really something else, I'm very grateful. hope you are doing great
Man Adam!! These exercises have really started to demystify the art of pentatonic and inside outside playing. Thanks a bunch. More please!!
I can hear the oriental flavor as these scales are played slowly.
Then to imagine the steamy melodic these scales evoke at speed.
It's learning the blues from the inside out, rather than hoping to have an ear to get to get there.

Keyboardist/ Trombonist from North Carolina. Thank you Adam for posting! I enjoy your delivery and humor; encourages me to go sit down at the piano.
So generous of you, great lesson, great presence.
