Adam, for me personally your shorts are some of the most useful ones that I've seen. Otherwise, I find shorts to be primarily a waste of time. I'm actually teaching my son the "hinging exercise" short. Okay fine, I learned it first ! 🙂

I’m a guitarist and composer and I just can’t tell you how much I appreciate your channel.
I feel that I’ve caught you (or you’ve caught me) in exactly the right time of my musical development. Your lessons have helped me exponentially in my understanding of music. I cannot thank you enough for the free content you make available to UA-cam and I cannot recommend strongly enough the instructions you offer on your website. Just, Thank You 🙏🏻. You have changed my life. You have helped me express myself in ways that I have been aspiring to for many years, but have until now been unable to achieve. Again, thank you 😊

Adam, this was one of the best piano/harmony video lessons I’ve ever seen. You clearly explained and demonstrated the theory while providing the practical application of it *and* a cheat sheet that we can practice with later. Thanks too for taking the time to consolidate your recent ‘shorts’ into one more comprehensive video. You’re amazing! Thanks again.

Its crazy, i have been trying to learn these concepts on guitar for years and make sense of them. And along comes adam and open studio and their method of presenting the info as a they demonstrate it in an unfolding hierarchy of complexity and thorough examination of application of the concepts has me making connections i wish other guitar tubers could. Not to bad mouth guitarist on youtube, but i feel like they dont demo enough, or they talk to much around the subject.

🫡 i just realized you don’t need to specify the right hand inversion to fully describe the voicings for a lot of this since describing “drop (number)” with the bass note gives you all the information you need ! very cool. (ie drop 2 exercise is inversion 3 in the right hand for the secondary dominants if you were to un-drop the “2”)

Adam, thanks. There is an abundance of useful knowledge here. As you played consecutive mu chords I instantly heard "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" in my head. I'd love for you to give a lesson on that song, or any of Steely Dan. Also, it is useful to note the mu chord is the chordal form of what Jerry Bergonzi calls "melodic structures," a method to learn soloing over various chord types- in this case, a dominant chord. As for drop 3: I have worked on drop 2 for a very long time and it's a lot of work, I 'm not sure I have the fortitude to take on drop 3.
And your explanation of the theory of subdominants is lucid. This makes the "mountain" exercise you put up more comprehensible. It seems not all that hard to learn, and sounds wickedly impressive, ie makes one appear to be a better pianist that one actually is, ha ha.

Adam, loving the content you and Peter produce! Running through your V7 of scale degree triads warm up, I got to wondering what leads smoothly into the half diminished besides another half dim. If Barry Harris says C# half dim is really Em6, then F#m7 B7 works okay, but then I thought, so would the tri-tone sub, so Cm7 - F7 - C#ø7. Is there a name for this progression? An F7 - C#ø7 4-way close produces smooth voice leading, but the weird octatonic: C#, Eb, E, F, G, A, B, C. Three consecutive half steps... in two places.

Question about Drop - 2 (or Drop- 3, and even MU).
I use inverations of all chords all the time, how can I practice this concept? Can I play all 4 notes of the chord in my RH, and just add the Bass to the LH whatever drop I choose?
It seems overwhelming to memorize which note to commit for each inveration position.

6:20 I understand that you are trying to imply the key of [C Major:] but I'm on the guitar, and I am drawn to the key of [F Major] I first had to invert to a 4th on the 6th string route and then tried the 4th string route for the A7 chord. Being a Rock-n-Roller, I'm immediately drawn towards Latin Jazz in the style of Carlos Santana. Try Dm7 (add 9) to A Maj7:) What's going on there? I could rock out those two chords in different keys and modulate quickly down the fret board to 1/2 step below and coda. Is there a theory behind this? Nevertheless, your idea opened a whole new perspective for me. Thanks. PS I'M starting on Dm7:) I understand that Dm is the relative minor key of F Major and that you are creating a burrowed chord from F Major relative D minor.. Half diminished chords, diminished and augmented chords seem to write their own rules as they seem to come from whole tone scales out of the Dominant family.

    - how would u take this through different keys?
    - what would be a good way to train this excersise?

The seven chord in a series of diatonic 7th chords (built in a major key) is a half-diminished chord. I justify its inconvenience as a chord that can be tonicized by a secondary dominant because it is neither major nor minor. Tonal music is set in major and minor tonalities only. By definition, tonic represents the key center or home base in tonal music. Therefore a diminished, half-diminished or augmented chord (for example) can not conventionally serve as a chord to be tonicized. 😅. I’m exhausted!

I think the mu major exercise sounds quite bland compared to the others because of the lack of the 7th notes in the secondary dominant chords
