    I’ve been fighting acne for about ten years now. Been on just about every medication possible. It always comes back. I’m now in a lull in my battle but my dermatologist said I need to stop taking the only one I feel is working. Gah! I’m thinking about going back on the elimination diet and getting my hormones checked. So sick of drugs that are doing who knows what to my insides 😭

    I agree with not touching your face, but PLEASE do not stick a pin into your pimples. Let a professional extract that for you. I used to stick pins into my pimples and it gave me horrible scarring, especially if the white head/pus isn't ready to come out. Your body is smart and will harden the white head/pus on your face and it will eventually fall off. It takes a LOT of patience but this helped me tremendously with acne.

    I understand Sarah is sharing her journey but I think we should be cautious about implementing supplements. I also struggle with acne and there is a lot of talk about vitamin A in the world of skin care and acne in particular. However, this has worked for Sarah because she is vitamin A deficient. At some point I was taking a supplement that was quite hight on vitamin A and it caused actually negative side effects to my skin and hair. Please always consult a professional before implementing supplements.

    I am a licensed esthetician. I am a huge lover of Sarah and I enjoy watching her videos, but from a professional standpoint, there were a lot of things Sarah said that are huge misconceptions. This comment is meant to inform not, to dis or bring hate to Sarah. I can only speak about her skincare routine (not the diet or supplements) because skincare is what I have been professionally trained in. She said made a comment about oil doesn't remove oil, this is not true. Water cannot break down oil and vis versa, we know this, simple science. There is a temptation to use oil stripping products to get rid of the oil, but that can actually increase the chances of making acne worse. There is a technique called Double Cleansing that we practice on our clients where we put straight up oil on the client's face, BUT its not Coconut oil. These oil cleansers are specifically made to remove makeup and oil from your face. After oil cleansing, use another gentle cleanser. This technique helps to preserve your Stratum Corneum (your natural skin barrier), also avoiding excess oil production which can be causing acne. Another point is that she said that she doesn't use an exfoliator on her face.... yes she does. The Foreo is a physical exfoliator and the Farmacy deep sweep is a chemical exfoliator. She uses two different forms of exfoliation. Please please please, if you are struggling with hormonal acne, go see a dermatologist or an esthetician. Hormonal acne is one of the most stubborn types of acne and needs a specific approach that is different for everyone. The skin pros can layout a treatment plan for you that is completely customized to what your skin needs. These things may have worked for Sarah, but they could harm your skin and/or worsen your acne.

      @@thamisotraditaola3098 coconut oil is comedogenic and i personally don't think that's great for skin. check out the oat cleansing balm from the inkey list (there's some oil in there) and what i do is put the cleansing balm onto dry skin, rub it around and "melt" the makeup, sunblock i've put on in the day, then without washing off the oil, i take my cleanser and put it on the skin (over the cleansing balm) and rub & wash off.

    Just so you all know: oil does help oil. She is wrong about that. Putting certain oils on oily skin can help. Your skin may be over-producing sebum because it is dehydrated and trying to compensate. So.. although she was very condescending about this, she’s incorrect. I suggest you guys listen to specialists like Hyram and Susan Yara when it comes to skincare, they are very knowledgeable and science-based.

      I agree with you on that but I do agree with Sarah to an extent too. So, oil cleansing and using oil on your skin can be great but it really depends on the oil. I have malassezia prone skin so I actually agree with Sarah on "natural" skincare because so many products have too many oils that are very comedogenic and for someone like me with malassezia, it was caused by the amount of oils rather than humectants in products that I used overtime. So, I can use squalane or MCT oil but that's about it. My sister who doesn't have malassezia but acne prone skin loves rosehip or jojoba oil but other oils clog her pores too. So, I reckon people should experiment but not fall down the trap of natural is better as far as oil.

    Just a friendly reminder that you should ALWAYS consult a dermatologist before doing what a UA-camr has done. This video is mostly for entertainment purposes, but not all skin types can respond well to her advice like hers did. Also, you should invest in your skin care, but you can easily find "dupes" that are affordable and are just as effective (because hello #COVIDunemployment). Vanity Planet has one that has 3 brushes, one of which is like the Luna and is rubber and not as abrasive. Not bashing Sarah, i love her. Just saying, this is not medical advice and it could potentially harm your skin by not consulting with a doctor first, as well as you could be wasting money during difficult times!

    Oil actually does dissolve oil. But that depends on which oil it is.
    A double cleanse is a must at the end of the day, even if you're wearing sunscreen. Use an oil cleanser to get off the make up and sunscreen and then use water to emulsify it, wash it off. Then use a water based cleanser to be double sure you got everything off. This is very good and helps with clogged pores as well.

    Plant forms of vitamin A are water soluble which means you pee out the extra but animal forms of vitamin A are fat soluble and is stored in the liver. You can not compare carrot vitamin A and animal vitamin A. They are two separate things. You can’t get Vitamin A toxicity from eating too many carrots but you can get Vit A toxicity from animal sources since you won’t be peeing out the fat soluble version. Following the dosing instructions for beef liver supplements shouldn’t cause a toxicity issue it’s just that you are literally comparing carrots to beef here and that is incorrect as they are two separate forms of vitamin A. I’m sure you mean well but people will follow what a UA-camr says without question and this worrisome.

    • @healthyhealthyholly6599

      Vit a from carrots can actually cause liver problems because of the high amount of carotenoids, neither are perfect but your body knows what to do with the vitamin A from animal sources. The idea that carrot sourced vit a is better for your body is just not true.

    • @Gabriela-ej5ew
      @Gabriela-ej5ew 4 роки тому +4

      “First, vitamin A is only found in animal foods. It’s a myth that plant foods are high in this nutrient. Instead, fruits and vegetables are high in a family of phytonutrients called carotenoids. The body must convert three of these compounds-beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin-to vitamin A. But in humans, this conversion is quite inefficient, with about 10 to 20 molecules of carotenoids needed to make one of vitamin A. In addition, 80 percent or more of natural vitamin A from animal sources is absorbed, but only three percent or less of carotenoids from plant foods are absorbed.”

    • @healthyhealthyholly6599
      @healthyhealthyholly6599 4 роки тому +1

      Doris Loor your body HAS to go through the extra steps of converting beta carotene to vit a which is an exhausting process that only converts about 2-3% (look it up I’m not your mom. If your tone is going to be that way so is mine.) It’s basic biology, but real science isn’t politically correct.

    I hate writing negative comments but I am tired of seeing people sell products that don't actually cure acne. I love Sarah's videos but this one is not okay. First, bananas cannot give you acne. Strep causes acne. Other things such as gluten, eggs, dairy, stress, & emotional challenges can feed the strep or trigger it. Please anyone who watches this video and reads this, realize that all these influencers with a "healing" acne journey yield different results. Doing what she does will not cure you. But knowing what actually causes the acne will cure you. Most people don't know the real cause which is actually the streptococcus bacteria * (*my mistake. It did say "virus" but strep is a bacteria. I hope this doesnt come off rude but i would like to clarify some important points: Spraying water on your face... causes something called transpidermal water loss.. basically it evaporates and pulls the water under your skin with it.. it happens every time you get your face ... so we need to keep our face washing habits to only what we need because it dries your skin. .also... a product smelling really good.. usually means it has fragrance (essential oils included) which can cause really bad reactions so they should be avoided... oil cleanser is necessary (double cleansing) to breakdown products like waterproof sunscreen so they are necessary. No need for toners also... the less you put on your skin the better.. :)

    9:21 I agree that some oils can block your pores and are simply not be tolerated by some skin types but ’oil doesn't dissolve oil’ makes me think that someone wasn't paying attention on the chemistry class...
    Oil does dissolve oil, that's why everybody is raving about oil cleansers and double cleanse...
    I wish UA-camrs remember (throughout the whole video, not just in disclaimers) that they are sharing their experience and didn't try to educate people on the matters that they aren't experts on. It's ok to get things wrong, but spreading wrong information with so much conviction might hurt people.

    • @Daniela-alexandra
      @Daniela-alexandra 4 роки тому +4

      But still double check with your doctor because you can overdose on Vit A and it can cause liver failure and pregnancy abnormalities, that’s why taking Accutane requires monthly bloodwork , pregnancy tests for women, and a monthly doctor’s visit with your dermatologist. When it’s prescribed, the dose is calculated depending on your body weight. It’s a lipid (fat) soluble vitamin so it’s stored in your fat, it doesn’t get flushed out when you pee like a water soluble vitamin would.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like her skin must have been really dehydrated! Any skin type can be dehydrated. So adding that essential hydration (which can also be found in toners if you’re into that) and then sealing it in with a moisturizer was vital! All skin types need hydration y’all but make sure to seal it in with a moisturizer that fits your skin type 😊 clogged pores can also be caused by dry skin getting caught in pores

I figured out that the acne I am currently dealing with is mostly fungle acne and this kind of acne can often times feed and thrive on the products that are supposed to help regular acne. It wouldn't bother me if your language focused more on what works for you, but you frequently say "you need to..." or "you can't..." Information about oil breaking down oil is incorrect, many of the products you recommend are very drying, and diet really doesn't play much of a role in acne. Have you considered that your hormones are changing as you get older and are no longer nursing or pregnant and that alone could have made this change with your skin? That was the case with me. And in the past I've had a diet high in gluten, dairy, sugar, bananas, etc and no acne. Regardless, I'm glad your skin is feeling better!

    Can we also mention that hormonal acne is also very age related. As us women age, our levels are fluctuating quite a bit. What was true at 19 might not be the same at 23 as we grow up. Our bodies may not be balanced for a long time. In my teens and early twenties I had a lot of hormonal acne. This didn't change when I went on the pill of different variations. But since about 25/27 this has completely changed. I went off hormonal birth control and my body learned to regulate itself. I now have a copper IUD to prevent pregnancy and am with a long term partner, ladies before y'all ditch the pill! For the last 5 years, my skin has been clear and I rarely get spots. But it could be various reasons any of these might have been the cause: I stopped wearing makeup, I went vegan and cut out dairy about 7 years ago, regular exercise to move the lymphatic system, my age and coming off the pill, not using any of these harsch skin products that are supposed to clean up acne. I wash my face with water and just a bit of usual soap and use general moisturizers not specifically designed for the face and getting into fresh air regularly. But very happy that these things helped you, Sarah.💚 Just everyone speak to your healthcare provider before starting a new diet or taking supplements 😘

    I had hormonal acne around my chin, neck and jawline for the past 5 years (and everywhere else for another 5 before that), and actually, the pandemic helped me clear it. Whilst i was self isolating, i got so fed up with my skincare products, that i finally decided, i’m not gonna do anything to my skin, just wash it with water maybe once a week. I have been playing with the idea for a very long time, but never been brave enough to do so. So I stopped picking my spots, stopped touching my face, stopped washing it, stopped moisturizing it, stopped putting on any makeup, drank about a liter of peppermint tea a day (and a few more of water), aaaaand after about 2 months of this, it is gone. I haven’t had a breakout since april, not even on my period. I have occasional little spots here and there, i put a little makeup on them, but i won’t wash it off at the end of the day and i don’t have to cover my whole face with makeup anymore. Nowadays i wash my face gently with my natural shampoo bar when i’m washing my hair if i feel like it, still good as ever. It is a scary thought not washing your face, but it was very rewarding for me :)

In my opinion, this can go across the board in the medical field. Whether its your therapist, family doctor, or oncologist its always best to go "shopping" and find the best fit. While time consuming, it is worth it in the end.

    My acne is related to PCOS, so what hes helped a lot is to eat lower glycemic. A serving of meat (lean, white meat, not red or processed or high fat meat), lots of vegetables, a little bit of carb/starch type foods (like butternut squash or quinoa), and some fruit and healthy fats. Eating oil doesn't work for me. I do best with nuts and nut butters (certain types). Some people do better with avocados or seeds. Everyone is so different, you have to find what works for you, but it will always involve healthy eating, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, exercise, and some simple skin care.
