    Larry Parks was perfection. What happened to him in real life is truly a Hollywood tragedy. So handsome, so talented. Never get tired watching this movie.

      Same here I thought he was fantasticand it was a shame that he was not featured more in other movies at because of that ridiculous witch-hunt mentality that mob mentality it just makes me sick. I was persecuted so much for being overweight as a child and as an adult as well and I say thatI cried many nights over being ostracized and being put into a corner and ignored and now people seem to want to be around me and you know what I find it it's painful to be around people that decide suddenly they want to be around you. I'm comfortable with myselfnow finally and I think Larry Parks wherever you are, rest easy and know that you're loved and appreciated for what you were and are and anything that you could have been in my mind you are and you have succeeded in not only being a role-model a fearless person to do what you've done to the Jolson story alone wasa miracle of molding and timing and acting and going from a younger to an older Jolson it is vocal tones and it's very subtle but the the changes that he did and the director wasmarvelous and I don't know where I'm going with this really I'm just full of emotion right now so I'll stop

    I watched that movie over and over when I was a kid in the 1960s. WOR-TV in NYC played it for a week as its "Million Dollar Movie". Larry Parks did a great job as Jolson.

      I grew up in Lod Angeles and the Million Dollar Movie was on channel 9, KHJ-TV. It played the same movie 5 nights in a row! My parents watched it every night. The first time I heard The Anniversary Waltz, I decided that would be the song my husband & I would dance to at our wedding. I believe I was six or seven at the time. It was our first dance and we danced to it every anniversary. I had a huge crush on Larry Parks.

    To be clear " as performed by Larry Parks" is the visual- the voice is the real Jolson.

    • @clintsherman5797

      Is that for all songs in the movie?

    • @teddycuthbert
      @teddycuthbert 3 роки тому +2

      @@clintsherman5797 Yep! Jolson recorded his voice for all the songs and Parks lip-synced to the recordings. Jolson also filmed himself moving as he would have when he performed these songs, so that Parks could study the Jolson movements to replicate. You can find that Jolson footage on UA-cam.

And please, spare me the "but he's racist cause he wore blackface" argument because he didn't wear blackface to mock black people, quite the opposite in fact.
