Larry Parks was perfection. What happened to him in real life is truly a Hollywood tragedy. So handsome, so talented. Never get tired watching this movie.
Larry parks did such an amazing job acting and Jolsons voice was absolutely incredible. We must never forget the greatest entertainer. We STILL love you Al!
Same here I thought he was fantasticand it was a shame that he was not featured more in other movies at because of that ridiculous witch-hunt mentality that mob mentality it just makes me sick. I was persecuted so much for being overweight as a child and as an adult as well and I say thatI cried many nights over being ostracized and being put into a corner and ignored and now people seem to want to be around me and you know what I find it it's painful to be around people that decide suddenly they want to be around you. I'm comfortable with myselfnow finally and I think Larry Parks wherever you are, rest easy and know that you're loved and appreciated for what you were and are and anything that you could have been in my mind you are and you have succeeded in not only being a role-model a fearless person to do what you've done to the Jolson story alone wasa miracle of molding and timing and acting and going from a younger to an older Jolson it is vocal tones and it's very subtle but the the changes that he did and the director wasmarvelous and I don't know where I'm going with this really I'm just full of emotion right now so I'll stop
I watched that movie over and over when I was a kid in the 1960s. WOR-TV in NYC played it for a week as its "Million Dollar Movie". Larry Parks did a great job as Jolson.
I grew up in Lod Angeles and the Million Dollar Movie was on channel 9, KHJ-TV. It played the same movie 5 nights in a row! My parents watched it every night. The first time I heard The Anniversary Waltz, I decided that would be the song my husband & I would dance to at our wedding. I believe I was six or seven at the time. It was our first dance and we danced to it every anniversary. I had a huge crush on Larry Parks.
disc 151 Heavens to Murgatroid! It was on New York City's 'Million Dollar Movie' that I first saw 'The Jolson Story'. If you miss 'Million Dollar Movie', raise your hand. Stay safe, and may God go with you.
@@clintsherman5797 Yep! Jolson recorded his voice for all the songs and Parks lip-synced to the recordings. Jolson also filmed himself moving as he would have when he performed these songs, so that Parks could study the Jolson movements to replicate. You can find that Jolson footage on UA-cam.
Love his music!! Reminds me of my dad (not here with us) we use to watch his movies all the time...whenever I’m feeling melancholy i just listen to his music and remember all the great memories... I love you dad♥️

Let's forget the pathetic comments about the racism aspect and concentrate on the singing. What an incredible vocal by Al and lip synced to perfection by Larry. Class!
A lovely film. The Al Jolson Story. A lot of actors were caught up in the hearings for communists which ruined a lot of actors careers including Larry Parks.

"he put paint on hiz face das raciss" completely ignoring the fact that Al Jolson fought to allow black people perform onstage and was against racism. And please, spare me the "but he's racist cause he wore blackface" argument because he didn't wear blackface to mock black people, quite the opposite in fact.
A new movie about Al Jolson needs to be made.
FOR CERTAIN!!!
Could listen and watch Larry over and over love the Jolson movies and the music Iam 82 and sing along with Larry thank you 4 showing the show.
I don't think it would be accepted now. 😮
Don't think or HOPE IT WOULD NOT BE?@@anndbritch-barney8378
It’s not likely that something like that will ever be made 😞😞

To be clear " as performed by Larry Parks" is the visual- the voice is the real Jolson.
Is that for all songs in the movie?

Even tho........I hate the black face ......This is one of my best songs that I love to hear him sing!!!!!!!!
You hate the blackface, or what you associate it with?
Kelly Bundy’s Christmas present brought me here.
Why did he play a coloured person when the real all Jolson was white
See the films..The Jolson Story and Jolson sings again.......!

Oh god I didn't expect to see racism
Becky A Al Jolson wasn't racist. I doubt Larry Parks was racist but I don't know enough about him to say for a fact.
+Taylor Desotell I was just listening to old music and came across this, it shocked me a little!
Becky A just saying. He's not a racist man.
+Taylor Desotell You hope! I honestly don't know who either of them are I'm just going by the video

Everyone in the comments are acting like he was such a wonderful guy, but are ignoring the fact that this is racist. How sad.

Elliott Bronstein especially you
natalie williams and of course you've come to this conclusion without doing any research whatsoever as your kind are wont to do
He was the worlds greatest entertainer period !! There always possibility some asshole will get offended!!!
Who the Hell could be fascinated by this Travesty
Please elucidate.
Same ones who were fascinated by it back then. Ignorant yokels who can't be made to understand how fucked up Jim Crow was.
Obviously you or else you wouldn't have watched it in the first place unless of course you were deliberately seeking out clips to offend you???
Travesty? Meaning what exactly/ and it's relationship to the clip here please?
@@margaretthomas8899 why do you keep commenting on these videos years later. It's racist you stupid old bat.
